The imaginary water fell into the cup Portia had given Luna.
They had finished gathering every feather in the room, and then Portia had found the perfect place to hide the bag; under her bed.
James still hadn't shown up, Rose hadn't either, although sooner or later she would have to talk to her.
"Would you like something with your tea, Luna?" she said in some kind of British accent. Quite original.
"Sugar, please." she asked politely.
"Well, here you are." she said handing over a small white cup.
Luna poured herself some sugar I would imagine and tasted her tea.
"It's delicious!" Lun exclaimed, smiling. Portia mimicked her.
"I made it myself." she confessed proudly.
"Well, you make wonderful tea."
"Yes, thank you." she smiled. "Are you a friend of Dad's?"
"Yes, I am."
"He doesn't usually have many people over, unless it's Uncle Peter. He doesn't usually spend much time with me."
"Oh, doesn't he? Well, I'm sure he'll spend a little more time with you now."
"Really?"
"Yes."
"Do you want to be my friend?" Luna sighed.
"I'd love to be your friend, beautiful." she said smiling. The girl imitated her.
"Great. Then you'll come with me today."
She celebrated with joy.
"Where do you want to go?"
"There's a movie at the cinema. My friends already went, but I want to go."
"Well, if it's okay with your father, I'll go with you."
Portia seemed to be a very friendly child. Although from what James had told her during the trip, she wasn't friendly with everyone. She was thankful that she liked him so much, because if she wasn't, getting on with the job would be a little more difficult.
She looked carefully at the little girl; she was quite adorable. Her blonde hair was tied delicately by a pink ribbon, and her tutu was, like the ribbon, the same color. She had big brown eyes, and a beautiful smile.
Luna smiled unconsciously.
"May I come in?" It was James at the door.
"Yes, come in."
He entered the room slowly, saw his daughter with a look of tenderness and doubt, then turned serious again.
"Are we going to the movies today?" the little girl asked. The illusion showed in her big brown eyes.
"I can't, baby, I'm not..."
"You promised it, daddy." She exclaimed seriously. Wow, she had gotten that from James.
"I know, but..."
"But Luna will go with me. She said she would do it." She explained trying to convince her father.
James looked at the young woman for a few seconds and then put on a smile. A bit fake.
"So you've arranged that...good."
"I'm sorry." Luna quickly defended herself.
"Yeah, although I think I've perfectly said, and repeated the rule about consulting me first, haven't I?" he whispered.
"I didn't know you hadn't said anything yet. I explained her that I should consult you first." she said in a whisper.
"Well." He said coldly, "I'll be right back."
He left the room.
Luna didn't want to get in trouble with James, she barely knew him but from what she had seen, he was a fucked up. She would try not to go along with any of Portia's plans without his permission. I mean, it was the logical thing to do.
Within five minutes, he appeared through the door. Quickly, he spoke,
"Portia, we're having lunch and going to the movies."
"With Luna?" she asked excitedly.
"Yes, with Luna."
The little girl put on her best smile, stood up and hugged her father, who quickly put on his most sincere smile.
"Okay, but you have to get dressed. I'll call Rose. You, um, Luna...you come with me."
She stood and began to walk after him. Portia gave a little shout goodbye and they walked on.
The silence was awkward, and I could hear James's breathing just yards away. He was angry, I knew it.
"What did I tell you?" he said suddenly.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know you hadn't allowed her to go to the movies. I told her i wasn't going to do anything without asking you first".
"Well, i was going to take her to the movies but my agenda has been full since forever. I had to call my work to let them know I wasn't going. Do you know how late i'm for work? No, you don't." he complained angrily.
"I'm sorry, I'm really sorry." she said apologetically. "I didn't say yes at any point."
"What did you talk to her about?" he asked evading Luna's comment as she walked into her office. He gestured for her to come in beside him. As he entered, he sat down at his desk and Luna across from him. "What did they talk about?" he repeated.
"We played tea for a while, then she asked me to be her friend. She smiled for a few seconds, and then she said she wanted me to go to the movies with her. That's all, then you came in."
"Well, she has asked you to be her friend, so that's good. If this keeps up, maybe in less than a week we'll have an answer. Do you like her?"
"Yes, she's a lovely girl."
"That's great. Listen, I want to offer you something."
"Yeah?"
"If this week goes well, there are a few things I'd like to talk to you about. Nothing too serious, just some things you need to know." he said trying to find the right words.
James held Portia gently as they stood in line for tickets. The theater was too big and there were too many people waiting to get in.He was too anxious and desperate to get a ticket and get out to the theater, but there were still about 4 people ahead of him and there was nothing they could do to get ahead of him."Luke could be here waiting in line for us" He said gruffly."But Portia wanted to get in line" Luna said subtly. He looked at her threateningly."I just said we could have saved ourselves this annoying line. You could also buy tickets over the phone, or online, but no..."He said angrily. Luna laughed "Did I say something funny?""Nothing, James".The line was going too slow. Luna understood, they had been in line for 20 minutes and he just wanted to get out of the place. Although considering how little they did these activities together, what did it cost him? From James's reaction, it was understandable that he hadn't been with Portia too long and maybe this was something
- How was the movie, huh? -James asked, holding Portia. The little girl smiled as her father carried her. The movie was over and they left the theater along with Luke.- I liked it. It was good - she said in a relaxed manner. James smiled.-Just good?- Excellent! - she shouted.-And what did you think, Luna? -he asked with a smile. He looked different smiling.-It was...good. I've been waiting to see that movie. Very much - she said smiling. James looked at her for a few seconds.-Did something happen? I've noticed you looking a little strange. - He asked looking at her attentively. Luna blushed.-No, nothing, it's just that I need to get used to the situation. You know... changing cities very fast. -She said nervously and giggled.-Okay? -He said smiling- Come on, honey. -He said and took her hand.James motioned for Luna to get in the van, took the girl's hand and then climbed in.James talked to Luke for a few seconds and then climbed into the van.An awkward silence filled the ca
Luke put his jacket back on and got out of the van. The driver waited for James, Portia and Luna to get out so he could drive the van to the garage.James was carrying Portia, who was asleep, and Luna was carrying her coat. It wasn't very late, it was almost six o'clock and the little girl was taking a short nap.As they entered, James laid his daughter down on the large living room couch and took off his coat.Luna looked at him seriously.-Do you want me to take her to her room? -She asked, looking at him intently. James snorted.-It's pretty much the same thing, she'll be fine.-No. It's not. Upstairs she has a comfortable bed, here.... It's fine.-This couch is extremely comfortable.- And your bed? - she asked.-Of course it is. It's one of the best. Portia needs a place to sleep peacefully. Because of her health condition, she's had to rest and be comfortable on more than one occasion.-Then she won't want to go to her room? -Luna said.James slowly turned around.-I'm sensing a
Luna laughed with Portia as she just guffawed. She was a cute little girl.James wasn't out of work yet, even though it was twenty minutes away and the little girl wasn't ready yet.-Okay, princess, how about we go get you ready so when your daddy comes we can go to the doctor?Portia nodded.-Okay. - She said and stood up with a big smile on her face- But I don't want to go to the doctor.-Why not?-It's boring. I want to go to the circus. -she said smiling. Luna smiled. She remembered what James told her.-Baby, I can't tell you anything. When your father arrives, you'll ask him. Well?-Why?-Well, he's your dad and he wants to take care of you. We can't not listen to him. Besides, you'll get me in trouble. -she said and smiled.-Okay. I'll wait for Dad. - She ducked her head.Sometimes she thought about how much she'd like to start her own family, to have a nice house, not too big, not too small.Luna dressed Portia in a T-shirt of her favorite character, a black jogging suit, snea
Portia had been vomiting and bleeding from her nose all night. Her father had done nothing but worry, and that made her nerves more nervous, so she was more irritable.Rose had quickly gone with Luke to buy everything she needed for the girl, and Luke and Luna had been left in charge of her. The night seemed to go on forever.-Okay, stay here. It's okay. I'll go downstairs and come back, okay? -James asked. Portia nodded. He gave Luna a quick, serious look that showed he was overly concerned. He quickly left the room and Portia stared at the ceiling.- Will it be like last time? - she asked.- I don't know. What was it like last time? -She asked, looking at the clock. Five o'clock in the morning.-There were a lot of doctors, and my arm hurt. My body hurt too, and I couldn't walk. -she sighed. Luna felt sorry.-Really? Well, I don't think so this time. -She said trying to calm the little girl down. She smiled.-Will you stay with me?-Of course, I'll be here as long as you need.- I d
James was walking quickly into the office. And that familiar woman was standing in front of the door.He turned around and a smile came across his face.-You're a little late. Did the babysitter make you late? -she said mockingly. James gave her a poison look.-I don't think it's in your best interest.-Come on, Drew, it's not. Do you really think you'll ever get over her?- I beg your pardon?-Well, let's stop talking about her. We need to talk and you know it.James walked into his office and made sure the door was locked. He couldn't handle the situation.-You're making my life miserable. You can't come near my house, don't send letters, don't come near me.- That's what happens when things get out of hand. It's a painful lesson.-I've been getting nervous all these days. What do you expect me to do? I can't hide this. She laughed,-But you don't have a choice. You know that.- It's in the past! - he shouted. The woman became elated. - What the fuck do I have to do to make you let
His hand moved rapidly as he tried to formulate as many words as possible.James listened without really hearing anything and watched his hands with scattered thoughts.-Well, fuck, won't you answer me a fucking question?-No - he answered.Peter snorted angrily. He grabbed his coat and started to put it on. He stopped short.- Sometimes you have to ask for help, James. You shouldn't hide everything.- Nothing's wrong, don't worry. Besides, do you think I'd be calm if my life or Portia's were in danger?- Of course you would, I know you. You can fool Rose, Luna, Portia, but not me. Besides, do you think I'm going to buy the story that that woman made peace again? I guess you don't remember that I was there during all that shit too.- Then you know I can take care of myself and I wouldn't let anything happen to Portia for the world. Don't be incredulous.James ducked his head, placed both hands on his face and for a moment as he closed his eyes, he felt tired. He ignored the feeling an
-Good morning - James said as he strided into his office.Several responded respectfully to his greeting. He was tired of doing the same thing day in and day out in the office. Sometimes he missed his old life.He sat back in his chair and pulled his phone out of his pocket. Several flashes were coming out of it.He snorted. Portia had been playing with a glitter applicator last night, that applicator had been a gift from Luna, causing Portia to spend the last two weeks putting glitter on everything she saw.Now his phone had too much glitter all over the back, pink and purple. A color combination he wasn't too fond of.He looked up at the large window of his office. The big blue sky caused a little pressure on his eyes. It was a sunny day.His cell phone rang. It was an unknown number.-James bexell, who is this? -he answered as he took small steps.- Luna's boyfriend? - he heard through the line.He stopped quickly.- Yes? Can I help you?-Yes, Samuel Atkings. May I ask what kind of
