Chapter Twenty-one - Agreement
Reyna's POV
I thought about the text all night, only giving Balor a response this morning after I discussed it with Piper. We went back and forth, and ultimately, she told me it was my decision.
I don't know why I agreed to meet him. Maybe it was curiosity or the fact that I seriously couldn't stop myself from entering a dangerous situation. But here I was sitting in an empty coffee shop waiting for him even though he was already five minutes late and probably only set this up to mess with me.
I looked at the time on my phone and then the clock on the wall. It was five past six. I pulled up to my pocket media app and began scrolling through recent posts trying to busy myself as I waited for Balor to arrive, if he was even going to, that is.
I closed th
Chapter Twenty-two - The PlanBalor's POVMy body ached in all the right places, telling me I pushed myself like I needed to. My chest was coated in a layer of sweat. I grabbed my water and squirted it into my mouth before drenching my head.Lincoln and I always made time to train, even in the city. We found a private boxing gym and blocked out a few hours a week to get out all the pent-up energy our wolves seemed to produce."So, how'd it go?" Lincoln asked.I didn't bother clarifying what he meant. He had told me he wanted to talk about how the meeting with Reyna went once he got back to the city, and I told him I would once we were done beating each other's faces in."It wasn't the worst meeting," I muttered. Lincoln scoffed
Chapter Twenty-Three - IntertwinedReyna's POVI looked at the man in front of me, trying my best to keep my mask on, not wanting him to see through our whole plan. When I was younger, I looked up to him, believed he would always protect us. But when Vicky got killed, and he disappeared, it shattered whatever love I had for him into a billion pieces.I pushed back the rage and hatred that was bubbling in my stomach—forcing myself to step forward and pull him into a hug. I tucked my head into the crook of his neck, something I used to do whenever I was scared as a child. I inhaled through my mouth, trying to avoid inhaling his familiar aroma of honeyed cigars and scotch."You were right, and I was too scared to believe you. But I'
Chapter Twenty- Four - Suffocation Balor's POV Everything seemed to be falling into place. We caught the rat, and we now had a plan to take down the whole rat's nest. Everything was looking up, or it at least it should have been. Something about this whole plan wasn't sitting right, and I had the most challenging time pushing the doubt away. Unease sat in the pit of my stomach as I nursed my glass of whiskey. The party was tomorrow, and I went to the packhouse to clear my head. The city's noise was too overwhelming right now, and I just wanted to have a moment to breathe. "You know if you keep scowling like, your face might stay that way." I looked up to see Penelope leaning against the doorframe. Her head was slightly tilted, and her lips pursed as she watched me. I let out a grunt as I took another sip of my drink.
Chapter Twenty-five - Double-crossedReyna's POV"So what are we looking for exactly? I thought we already had others look through all of this." Sullivan complained as we looked over the file for the third time.I tapped my foot as I looked through every detail of the file in my hand. I finally got to the bank statements we had acquired, looking for any suspicious activity, and it was like the stars had aligned, and I was granted a break for once.I moved to the following file, finding the same thing. Twice a month, payments were made to Bloodstone Security accounts. As I moved from one file to the next, a smile spread across my face."What'd you find?" Sullivan asked, her brow arched.
Chapter Twenty-Six - Deception Reyna's POV "It's nice to meet you, Eugene." I gave him a soft smile before turning my attention to the rest of the ballroom. Ribbons and tulle were draped across the ceiling. Twinkling lights, slowly blinking above them, giving off the illusion of stars. The tables that surrounded the dance floor were covered in black cloth along with silver runners. Black feathers fanned out from the top of tall vases as pearls and crystals hung off of the top of the vase. Everyone was dressed in beautiful formal wear. The men all wore perfectly tailored suits, and the woman wore the more beautiful gowns. Most even flashier and fancier than mine. I didn't believe in fairytales or magic for that matter, but this place was enchanting.
Chapter Twenty-Seven - TemptationBalor's POVI waited anxiously for Reyna to return from the meeting. I wasn't sure what to expect, and the fact that I couldn't actually be in there only made matters worse.I had covered all of my bases. I glamoured myself to everyone except Reyna, which took a lot of energy. I also cast a memory spell on the host so she wouldn't ever remember encountering me. These events were so exclusive that I didn't even have to worry about cameras, which was an added bonus. Phones weren't even allowed past the front entrances, saving me from having to find a way to delete all photographic evidence of Reyna being here too."Another, sir?" The dealer asked me. I nodded as he placed another card down in front of me.Fredericks went all out for these events. Apart from the ballroom and over-the-top decorations. He also had another room sectioned off and turned into a casino."House wins.Would you look to play again?
Chapter Twenty - Eight- BlissBalor's POVWe sneaked past one of the barricades that blocked the rest of the house off from guests. Reyna giggled as she kept looking around, expecting someone to stop us.I used my wolf hearing to make sure no one was coming as we rounded the corner. The sound of footsteps sounded behind us, and I reached for her hand, tugging her to move faster behind me. I went to let go of her hand as we rounded another corner, but Reyna only squeezed tighter. My heart started to beat a little faster as sparks travelled up my arm. I wondered if she could feel them too. If she could feel the same warmth I did, whenever our skin touched."This way," I said, pulling her in the direction we needed to go.
Chapter Twenty-Nine - BetrayalReyna's POVIt's so cold."Hello?" I tried to shout, but my voice only came out as a raspy whisper. What the hell happened?I tried to think of the events that led me to this dark, cold place, but everything was fuzzy. The sound of chains dragging on my ground drew my attention. I tried to look at my surroundings, but everything was black. The sensation started to return to my numb hands. And I reached to touch my face, but everything felt heavy. I tried to move my hands but couldn't. My wrists were bound, and I couldn'
Bonus chapter - A MessageBalor's POV So many voices whispered in the darkness—the haze too thick to tell whether this was a dream or a vision. I felt trapped. My body felt like it was weighed down but also nonexistent."She's coming."A voice whispered through all the noise"One shall fall. The other shall rise. In a fight of fire and ice, a Phoenix will be reborn."Another whispered a little louder. "Bound by life, only death can break the curse." A voice said from farther away."You must hurry if you wish to win. Accept the fate, and the end will come." They all seemed to hiss in unison.I tried to speak, but my mouth was sealed shut, my lips gone. Panic started to rise in me as I tried to fight the darkness. It was pulling me under faster and faster, hands and shadows swirling around me, grabbing and scratching at my skin and pulling at my arms and legs. Flashes of death crossed my mind. A woman, cloaked in shadows, sitting on the throne. Chaos throughout all realms spilling out i
EpilogueReyna's POVI let out a deep breath. The air here was so different. Fresher, purer than what I was used to. Even after six months in Vancouver, it took me by surprise."Now," Piper whispered into her earpiece. In one swift move, I jumped from my hiding place. My stomach flipped as I jumped from the ten-foot drop, landing right onto a brown wolf.I stabbed my needle of wolfsbane into his neck. He tried to buck me off, letting out a vicious snarl, but I held on tightly. The wolf flipped onto its back, slamming me into the forest floor. I let out a gasp, my lungs struggling to expand from having the wind knocked out of me.The wolf rolled off of me, preparing to lunge at me. But a blur of silver ju
Chapter Forty- Eight - New BeginningsReyna's POVIt was hard to believe it had already been two weeks since Ivan was captured. The media went into a frenzy about it. Especially when Ivan begged them to believe he wasn't who he was said to be. The cherry on top was the statement he released when he pled not guilty to the charges. Claiming a wolf and his psychotic daughter framed him, I had a great laugh at the officers as they tried to take me in to prove his claims true or false.I even had a few reporters and news stations request an interview with me about it all. Most wanted to know how I felt about it all, especially how I felt about it being solved after I handed it over to a new detective. It even added another reason to the ever-growing list that captain dipshit was building against me to get me
Chapter Forty-Seven - DesolationReyna's POVIvan's head snapped up at the sound of my voice. His eyes were nowhollow and sunken in. His beard was a dishevelled mess, his hair in need of a good wash. I might have pitied the man before me if I was a better person.I may have even felt an ounce of shame for what I was about to put him through. Maybe I might have even tried to understand what had happened to him to turn him into such a monster, tried to understand how he became so heartless and cold. But I was a long ways away from the girl I once was. She was lost the day she received the news of her sister's death. When she was told how her sister had been brutally raped before she was murdered, her body ripped to shreds. She could no longer be saved once the man who was supposed to help us. Support us. Lo
Chapter Forty-Six - MatesReyna's POV"Are you sure you want to do this?" Balor asked. I stared out the window of his blacked-out range rover. Watching the trees pass us by as we moved down the backroads. We had decided that it was better to head right out after breakfast and set out to destroy the man who tried to kill Balor's family and me.I turned to him, giving him a nod. Most people would consider me to be just as psychotic as my father for doing this.Hell, most people would have had me committed as soon as I mentioned mythical beings being real. But this wasn't a delusion, and the fucker had it coming. He would pay for not only taking Vicky away from me but f
Chapter Forty-Five - OblivionBalor's POVI looked up at Reyna. She seemed extremely calm after the blow-up she just had. Maybe it was all the stress or the fact that it was all still so fresh that she didn't fully comprehend what I told her, what I had just admitted to her.But as I looked closely, I noticed she had a glint in her eye that seemed oddly familiar. It reminded me of all the times whenImelda and Nesrin would scheme about ways they were going to get me back for the pranks I had pulled on them."What do you mean?" I asked, not wanting her to change her mind."You say Ivan is still alive." I nodded.
Chapter Forty-Four - HuntedReyna's POVI swallowed hard, slowly turning towards the creature that was now behind me.Every fibre in my body told me to run in the opposite direction as I faced her."Are you a friend of Balor's?" She hummed at my question, the hairs on my arms standing up instantly at the dark sound of her voice."More like forced allies.""What is your name?" I asked, and she hissed at me before turning to look towards the end of the hall. I wanted to scream at the terrifying woman, but I forced myself to stay quiet. Two men ran around the corner, and before they could even register what
Chapter Forty-Three - The ReaperReyna's POVSlowly I came to. My head was heavy and throbbing. I could still feel the spot where the needle had been jammed into my neck. I looked up, seeing double of a man in a god-awful green suit. The creepy vibes clicked into place as I recognized Leon standing in front of me."Not you again," I groaned. I blinked my eyes a few times, trying to focus. My head was pounding from whatever drug they gave me to knock me out. I was now stuck seeing double of the world's ugliest gnome. And no one deserves to be cursed with such atrocities."Don't you have anything better to do than try and bait a lone wolf with anger issues?" I mused in a bored tone.
Chapter Forty-Two - DealsBalor's POVI stood in front of my kitchen sink, blade in hand. I knew I had to do this because I could only track their headquarters down using his help.I'd seen this happening in the rush of visions I had after making a deal with Imelda. But I didn't think it would actually happen. Some visions were so prominent, while others were almost transparent. Which meant the likely hood of them coming true was slim. That seemed to be the way things were happening lately. The most unlikely roots in the future were swirling to life before my very eyes."I never in a million years would have thought our lives would have become this," I muttered.
