Balor's POV

So many voices whispered in the darkness—the haze too thick to tell whether this was a dream or a vision. I felt trapped. My body felt like it was weighed down but also nonexistent.

"She's coming."A voice whispered through all the noise

"One shall fall. The other shall rise. In a fight of fire and ice, a Phoenix will be reborn."Another whispered a little louder.

"Bound by life, only death can break the curse." A voice said from farther away.

"You must hurry if you wish to win. Accept the fate, and the end will come." They all seemed to hiss in unison.

I tried to speak, but my mouth was sealed shut, my lips gone. Panic started to rise in me as I tried to fight the darkness. It was pulling me under faster and faster, hands and shadows swirling around me, grabbing and scratching at my skin and pulling at my arms and legs.

Flashes of death crossed my mind. A woman, cloaked in shadows, sitting on the throne. Chaos throughout all realms spilling out i

PrologueSex, money, and drugs. Those are the three things that seem to hold power over the human realm. It's pathetic when you think about it, but it also gave me the advantage I needed to expand my family's business. Yes, we're werewolves, with a special connection to the fae world, but every species needs money to survive. That's how entering this new form of business was a no-brainer.When I arrived five years ago, I took over everything. My aunt Cass was worn out with the responsibilities of running the pack in the human realm. She didn't have time to keep track of the family business anymore. It was evident in all the stat sheets. The company's traffic was slowing, and the pack was taking the brunt of it.So when I confronted her about it, she gave it to me without a second thought. Once the money started rolling in, sh

  • The Deadly One   Leaving

Chapter one - Leaving*Five years ago*"You should have come to dinner tonight, Balor. Mother is starting to worry about you." Nesrin's voice was soft and concerned as she leaned against my door frame. I continued to stare at the ceiling above my bed. The orbs of light changed colour as they danced around me. The harp I had been playing stopped as soon as she entered my room."If she is that worried for my well-being, then why is it you here instead of her?" I muttered as I turned my gaze to her. She was the spitting image of Imelda, and it made it hard to look at her. The only thing different was that her jawline was a little more stubborn, her nose tipped up a slightly higher, and her eyes were of our mothers, matching mine perfectly. Nesrin let out a huff of air as she walk

  • The Deadly One   Investigation

Chapter Two - InvestigationUnknown POV*Present day*The sound of honking horns and shouting filled the brisk morning air—the constant clicking of a camera shutter beside me. The yellow tape was swaying in the cold winter wind. My fingers grew numb in the latex gloves needed to collect any potential evidence. The smell of piss, blood, and decaying flesh filled my nose. After three years of this, it never gets easier. Some say that once it becomes easy. Once the unsolved murders stop haunting your dreams and you stop caring about the body in front of you, you'velost your soul to the devil.I looked at the bruised and swollen body before me. This man was someone's son, brother, maybe even a

  • The Deadly One   Visitors

Chapter Three - VisitorsBalor's POVI stepped out of my car into the empty parking garage. To be at the top of the food chain, you have to show power. And to establish dominance in the human world is to flaunt how much money you have. So I built my way up, bought the biggest building in the centre of the city and turned it into my penthouse and business front. Not everything I ran was illegal or involved cutting of body parts and collecting debts. This level was my personal parking space. I had the nicest cars and bikes—the best security system and cameras to catch anyone who tried to enter. I also put wards in place, but unfortunately, that wouldn't hold up in a mortal courtroom. Nevertheless, I had learned how to adapt to this realm. I Glamoured myself when I needed to, use magic without giving myself away.Humans weren't stupid. They knew mag

  • The Deadly One   A Lead

Chapter Four - A Lead Reyna's POV The annoying buzz of my phone woke me from a dreamless sleep. My mouth was dry, and my hair covered my face. I wiggled out of my cocoon of blankets and blindly felt around my nightstand for the god-forsaken thing. "I'm coming. Just give me a minute." I grumbled as I finally gripped my phone between my fingers. I squinted at the bright light as I slid over the green button. "Killian, what'd you need?" My voice filled with sleep. "Good morning to you too, Reyna." Piper chimed through my phone. Morning people were the worst kind of people. I could never understand how someone could be so chipper after waking up in all my years in the academy and o

  • The Deadly One   Reckless

Chapter Six - RecklessReyna’s POVWe arrived at the house, correction, mansion. Of course, it was a rich guy who deemed himself untouchable. There were two types of people who got themselves involved with the wrong business—the first, making friends with the wrong people expecting their money or luck to save them. The second were people so desperate to get something or consumed with addiction they made a deal with the wrong person. Each situation was horrible, and I wished each situation could be avoided entirely. The cast-iron gates slowly opened, allowing us to enter. We slowly drove up the long driveway. Perfectly trimmed shrubs were wrapped, ready for the winter weather. Tall lamp posts lined the side, opening up to a large water fountain that had also been wrapped in preparations for the long winter we were

Chapter Seven - FateBalor’s POVI stood in front of my mirror. Steam from my hot shower was still fogging up my mirror. My upper body was still covered in droplets of water, my towel wrapped around my waist as I wiped away the condensation from the mirror. I was always glamoured when in the city I hardly had time to look like my true self. My scarlet hair was always dulled, my eyes not as bright, and my ears perfectly rounded.I took pride in what I was, but risking my kind's safety by becoming known wasn’t something I ever wanted. I worked hard to protect us, and yeah, I may have taken the darkened path, but it ensured my family's safety from hunters and all the other cruel things the lurked in this human realm.I took in how the tattoos sat against my tanned skin and muscular body. EpilogueReyna's POVI let out a deep breath. The air here was so different. Fresher, purer than what I was used to. Even after six months in Vancouver, it took me by surprise."Now," Piper whispered into her earpiece. In one swift move, I jumped from my hiding place. My stomach flipped as I jumped from the ten-foot drop, landing right onto a brown wolf.I stabbed my needle of wolfsbane into his neck. He tried to buck me off, letting out a vicious snarl, but I held on tightly. The wolf flipped onto its back, slamming me into the forest floor. I let out a gasp, my lungs struggling to expand from having the wind knocked out of me.The wolf rolled off of me, preparing to lunge at me. But a blur of silver ju

  • The Deadly One   New Beginnings

Chapter Forty- Eight - New BeginningsReyna's POVIt was hard to believe it had already been two weeks since Ivan was captured. The media went into a frenzy about it. Especially when Ivan begged them to believe he wasn't who he was said to be. The cherry on top was the statement he released when he pled not guilty to the charges. Claiming a wolf and his psychotic daughter framed him, I had a great laugh at the officers as they tried to take me in to prove his claims true or false.I even had a few reporters and news stations request an interview with me about it all. Most wanted to know how I felt about it all, especially how I felt about it being solved after I handed it over to a new detective. It even added another reason to the ever-growing list that captain dipshit was building against me to get me

Chapter Forty-Seven - DesolationReyna's POVIvan's head snapped up at the sound of my voice. His eyes were nowhollow and sunken in. His beard was a dishevelled mess, his hair in need of a good wash. I might have pitied the man before me if I was a better person.I may have even felt an ounce of shame for what I was about to put him through. Maybe I might have even tried to understand what had happened to him to turn him into such a monster, tried to understand how he became so heartless and cold. But I was a long ways away from the girl I once was. She was lost the day she received the news of her sister's death. When she was told how her sister had been brutally raped before she was murdered, her body ripped to shreds. She could no longer be saved once the man who was supposed to help us. Support us. Lo

Watching the trees pass us by as we moved down the backroads. We had decided that it was better to head right out after breakfast and set out to destroy the man who tried to kill Balor's family and me.I turned to him, giving him a nod. Most people would consider me to be just as psychotic as my father for doing this.Hell, most people would have had me committed as soon as I mentioned mythical beings being real. But this wasn't a delusion, and the fucker had it coming. He would pay for not only taking Vicky away from me but f

  • The Deadly One   Oblivion

Chapter Forty-Five - OblivionBalor's POVI looked up at Reyna. She seemed extremely calm after the blow-up she just had. Maybe it was all the stress or the fact that it was all still so fresh that she didn't fully comprehend what I told her, what I had just admitted to her.But as I looked closely, I noticed she had a glint in her eye that seemed oddly familiar. It reminded me of all the times whenImelda and Nesrin would scheme about ways they were going to get me back for the pranks I had pulled on them."What do you mean?" I asked, not wanting her to change her mind."You say Ivan is still alive." I nodded.

She hummed at my question, the hairs on my arms standing up instantly at the dark sound of her voice."More like forced allies.""What is your name?" I asked, and she hissed at me before turning to look towards the end of the hall. I wanted to scream at the terrifying woman, but I forced myself to stay quiet. Two men ran around the corner, and before they could even register what

  • The Deadly One   The Reaper

Chapter Forty-Three - The ReaperReyna's POVSlowly I came to. My head was heavy and throbbing. I could still feel the spot where the needle had been jammed into my neck. I looked up, seeing double of a man in a god-awful green suit. The creepy vibes clicked into place as I recognized Leon standing in front of me."Not you again," I groaned. I blinked my eyes a few times, trying to focus. My head was pounding from whatever drug they gave me to knock me out. I was now stuck seeing double of the world's ugliest gnome. And no one deserves to be cursed with such atrocities."Don't you have anything better to do than try and bait a lone wolf with anger issues?" I mused in a bored tone.

  • The Deadly One   Deals

Chapter Forty-Two - DealsBalor's POVI stood in front of my kitchen sink, blade in hand. I knew I had to do this because I could only track their headquarters down using his help.I'd seen this happening in the rush of visions I had after making a deal with Imelda. But I didn't think it would actually happen. Some visions were so prominent, while others were almost transparent. Which meant the likely hood of them coming true was slim. That seemed to be the way things were happening lately. The most unlikely roots in the future were swirling to life before my very eyes."I never in a million years would have thought our lives would have become this," I muttered.
