***Bryan***
"Jensen! Where are you off too?" I called out to my friend as I watched him hurry along the sidewalk. "What's up, Bryan?" he asked. "Lois is going for a condolence visit. I just thought I should tag along." I haven't heard news of any death within our territory. "Who died?" "I don't know. Curtis asked if I wanted to tag along. He said Lois' friend lost her father a few minutes ago." "Huh. That's sad." Jensen pointed at a car heading our way. "Aha. Here they come. You can ask them." The car stopped right in front of us. Curtis and Lois stepped out and bowed their heads to greet me. Almost everyone greets me that way now. It will take some time for me to get used to it. As the soon-to-be Alpha, some of the respects an Alpha gets are already being extended to me. My gaze was on Lois. "Jensen told me you're going for a condolence visit. Who died?" "Scarlett lost her dad. Alpha Ashley Anderson is dead." "What?"I yelled. Lois wasn't looking good. "Scarlett called me crying. She said her father collapsed in his office this morning." This came to me as a big shock. Why would he drop dead now? Why deprive me of the opportunity of killing him myself? I was so close. So fucking close! Lois added. "She confided in me though. She said she thinks her father was killed…poisoned to be precise." Now this is interesting. I've never been to Anderson territory unless for my assignments and mostly it was at night. Who would dare take my prey away from me? He was supposed to die in my hands. An idea popped in my head. "I'm coming with you guys." I muttered. "You don't have to," Lois said. "I think I should come with you. I'll be Alpha soon. It's good to start establishing good relationships with other packs in the range. Don't you think so?" My excuse sounded so convincing because they all looked at me and nodded their heads in agreement. Curtis waved his hands. "Let's go then." I flicked my fingers at them and they stopped in their tracks. "Before we leave, know this. Please when we get there don't address me as the soon-to-be Alpha but as your friend." Lois had a confused look. Apparently she wasnt in the mood to argue so she just nodded. My Wolf was mad. This news was a great news at the same time a bad one. I've always visualized Alpha Ashley dying in my hands. I needed to know who took this opportunity away from me. Perhaps when I get to where Scarlett lives I'll be able to point out one or two things that are out of place. Lois Wold is among the few people I got close to after I returned to Silvercrest Range. I reconnected with a few others who were already my acquaintances years ago, like Cutis, Jensen, Ingrid and a lot of others. As for Lois Wold, she was never a part of this pack, her surname Wold says it all. Alpha Westby must have accepted her into his pack not long ago. Westby is just like a father to me. If not for him, I'll be dead. And Debbie too. The young girl who used to give me her lunch and money. That girl saved my ass before I even came across Westby. It's been five months with no trace of who Debbie is. I never got to know her surname or what pack she was from. She only told me her name was Debbie. The time we spent together in our small world was so little...Five days—that's it. It was so short but yet long. It was like I've known her forever. If anyone had asked me what I thought about that thirteen year old girl then. I would have told them that there was no way she wasn't my mate. It was love at first sight. We arrived the mansion. I must say, it looks just as they say. The Andersons aren't just a big pack but were filthy rich. I'm not shocked beacuse I am aware that the source of this wealth comes from my family, the Haalands. Everything I was looking at right now was mine. By right, it all belongs to me. They took it away from my pack. As I remember that horrible night, I clenched my fist... Every corner I looked at around this damned house reminded me of what they did to me. The Andersons were never the richest pack. Haaland was. But after wiping us out they together with the Foss claimed our lands, territory, my fathers ships, port and the fish business. "Sorry…I… I kept you all waiting." Scarlett entered the living room. Her face was as red as a rose petal. Her eyes were swollen from tearing up. "I had to attend to the elders of the pack." Lois introduced us as her friends then rose up to give her a warm hug. This makes Scarlett break down completely, tears rolling down her cheeks. It was unlikely for me to take pity on a crying woman. Although I have a weakness for crying kids. I can't stand a crying child. There's this need for me to want to be their hero. I believe crying adults should be able to take care of themselves. Scarlett's tears moved me. I wasn't supposed to feel sorry for her. If anything, she deserves it. I've never seen Scarlett up close. Although I've seen her a few times from a distance but this was my first time seeing her this close. The night Lois almost caught me trailing Scarlett, I couldn't get this close to her. Now I can see why everyone said Evans got himself a very pretty bride. She was damn pretty! Coming here today makes me appreciate her soft features. I observed her for a while. Damn it! It would be hard killing this one. She was very beautiful with fair skin and shoulder length blond hair. Even as she cried, it only made her look cute and innocent. I had to resist the urge of pulling her in for a hug. I began to feel turned on just by staring at her. My heart pounded fast in my chest. My breath soon became raspy … What the heck is wrong with me? I need to leave. Now! Without any explanation I quietly slipped out of the mansion. Coming here was a bad idea. Would I be able to put up with hurting that pretty face? Nothing should stop me now. I've come too far to stop. I scold myself and had to clear my head so I could get back in the game.***Scarlett*** I'm still in shock. It's only been twenty-four hours since the incident. It's been confirmed that my father, Alpha Ashley Anderson was killed. His drink was poisoned. Whoever my father had a meeting with has a hand in this. The bad news is no one knows who my father met. Many said he was alone in his office sorting some documents but had no idea who came to see him. Evans thinks the wandering killer has finally succeeded in striking my father. That's what everyone in Silvercrest Range calls the killer now; the wandering killer. I don't want to argue with him but this is too easy. The killer wouldn't have gained access into my father's working chambers without help from the inside. The elders of the pack say an investigation will be carried out to ascertain if this was the work of the wandering killer or an insider. Evans dragged the tray of food close. He lifted the warm glass of milk and handed it to me. "You have to eat, Scarlett. Dina has been worried sick
***Scarlett*** My father was cremated as the tradition demands for werewolves in the range. My stepmother and I had to wait behind to collect his Ash. I doubt if my father's death will make us close. I have a feeling it will only push us farther away from each other because we were never close to begin with. Dina wiped a tear that trickled down her right cheek. "Your father was a good man. The best man I've ever met." "You don't have to be dramatic about it," I said feeling irritated by her display. Evans caressed my arms. "That's no way to talk to your stepmother, babe. She is hurt too, you know." I ignored Evans. The last thing I need now is an argument. Dina began to sob more. "I wish she could care for me as much as I care for her." I rolled my eyes at the pathetic show she kept on displaying. It was funny that she was shedding a tear from just one eye—she looked funny honestly. Who was she trying to deceive? Not me of course. If I was a private investigator, I wouldn
***Scarlett*** I couldn’t hold it anymore. I’m surprised that I still clutched onto my bag tightly, even with the shocking display of my husband's infidelity satring back at me. I backed away. Unfortunately, my back hit the wall behind me. They must have heard my movement because I heard them stop. “Who is there?” Dina called out. I ran for the exist as fast as I could. There was no time to even turn around. There was no need to because with my wolf hearing, I could tell they were out of the room already to find who had alked in on them. No way was I going to make it out of this place in time. So I did the one thing I could do—hide. I went through the main door but instead of running straight for the gate, I sneaked behind the house and entered through the emergency door, into the kitchen. I gently pushed the door. I gasped…too loud for a fact. My eyes narrowed...I wasn’t expecting to see anyone. “Shhh… stay quiet or they would find you." Sir Vik, the butler pointed t
***Scarlett*** Sir Vik got his composure back. He opened the store, reaching out for me with one of his hand. “Let’s get you out of here.” I nod, taking his hand in mine. “Uncle Vik, how do I get out of here?” “Leave that to me," he said. I trusted him. When he told me to leave it to him, I didn’t doubt him for a second. I knew he would know what to do. He used the emergency door which I had used earlier. So I followed him. “Where are we going to? What’s at this side of the house?” I asked as we continued to walk further away from the house. “You need to hurry, Scarlett.” I increased my pace. “I’m sorry, you almost got hurt because of me. Thank you for masking my scent.” I lowered my head, feeling sorry for what had happened back in the house. “It’s okay.” He turned around to face me. “Are you okay? I …mean …you saw them doing it too, didn’t you?” I stared back at him. My eyes narrowed. “You knew about it?” He nodded slightly and looked away. “I saw them at a hotel in to
***Bryan*** I’m going insane. It’s over a week since I set my eyes on Scarlett Anderson. I haven’t remained the same man ever since. Getting hard ons frequently just by thinking about her is making me lose my mind. This has stressed me beyond words. I recalled the day I had gone with Jensen, Lois and Curtis for the condolence visit. I had fled the premises without any explanation. I had to. I couldn’t sit there having sexual fantasies about a woman I am supposed to kill. The mere color of her skin and how pretty her face was, turned me on. I imagined how those slender legs of hers would feel when wrapped around me when I take her. Damn! This was fucked? A knock on the door pull me back to the present, distorting my train of thoughts. “Yes. Who is it?” “It’s Jensen.” I pushed the door and peeked through it. I wasn’t in the mood to see anyone. “Dude! There’s something called a call or a text. Why are you here knocking at my door on a weekend?” Jensen stepped in pushing me out of
***Scarlett*** At first it seemed impossible. I couldn’t keep up with faking my emotions, pretending everything is okay. Now, it’s become easier. Not ever loving Evans at this time is a lifesaving mechanism for me. If this shit happened after I have fallen for him, it would be devastating for me. It would have crushed me. “When would you be moving into the mansion?” Lois came in not too long ago to check on me. Lois had been there to give me a shoulder to cry on. When I told her about Evans and Dina, her scream almost tore the roof of my house down. “Tomorrow.” I poured some juice in her glass before I proceeded to fill mine. Lois picked her glass. “It’s cool that your father willed the mansion to you.” “Not so cool if you ask me. Maintaining that house is one hell of a job. Not only that; father willed everything to me.” Lois narrowed her eyes then sighed. “You are one lucky bitch. You should know that. But you don’t seem too happy he left everything in your name.” Lois adju
***Scarlett***“Babe, what do you mean by you aren’t in the mood?” Evans tore away the pillow from my arms. “Since your father died, it’s been one excuse or the other. It’s been a while since I touched you.”“I need space. I’m not in the mood, Evans.” I pull away to avoid his touch.“You don’t have to be in the mood. You are my wife. I can make love to you when I wish.”His response made me angry. I yelled. “Oh, yeah! It’s my body. I decide when I want to do it with you.” He was behaving like a misogynistic bastard. He is alpha of a pack. I’m an alpha female of my pack. He shouldn’t expect me to submit to him all the time.Evans snarled, his teeth extended as he jumped into the bed. He tried to get hold of my legs. I move further away. “Stop it Enzo. No means no, except you want to rape me.”“At this rate, I might. We aren’t humans who try to be rational when it comes to sex.” His eyes glowed. “I’ll only get pissed and get what I want the wolf way if you keep pushing me.”“Let go of
***Bryan*** It took me five minutes to arrive at the pack house. Alpha Westby Mo was shouting orders. The warrior wolves taking every command he threw at them. “Yes sir!” Their voices echoed through the pack house. With that they storm out in a hurry. “Where are they off to?” “You are here?” Westby asked without lifting his head and ignoring my question. He stood with his hands in his pocket looking at the fire place. “What’s going on? Why did you send that kid to drag me out of the house at this time of the night?” He sighed. “If you had moved to the pack house when I told you to, I wouldn’t be sending a kid to come get you.” He lifted his head to look at me now. “A dead body was found in our territory. Before you ask. No, it wasn’t one of ours. The corpse belongs to the Anderson pack. We suspect he was stabbed in the heart before his body was thrown into the sea.” My eyes narrowed. It was a shock to me. I haven’t gone for hunting for a while now. I decided to lay low after th
***Scarlett***The hall had turned into chaos. Alpha Westby wasn't the gentle man he appeared to be in front of his pack. His patience was running out as he couldn't deal with his daughter's defiance any longer. "No, father. Please don't push me." "Why don't you want to listen to her?" Bryan asked , his tone firm. "She's right about how I don't have feelings for her. I love Scarlett." "You kids think you know better than your elders or parents." He pulled ingrid towards him. "Love isn't everything. Some things are not as they seem." "Father!" Ingris yelled in pain, holding her arms. "I'm not going to marry Bryan.""You must!""I won't. You were there that night." Ingrid faced her father with so much defiance in her eyes. Alpha Westby's eyes flickered. "What are you talking about?" "You know what you did to Bryan's pack. You and the Alpha of the Foss and the Anderson pack planned on wiping out the Haaland." My heart pounded in my chest. I couldn't believe what Ingrid was saying
***Scarlett***I avoided the front seat like a plague. I would have preferred to sit in the back but I would struggle to keep up with the view because of my height. I found a perfect spot in the middle. In no time the hall was filled and everyone had taken their seats. Bryan looks dashing and handsome just as I had imagined he would turn out to be. Soon after Alpha Westby walked in with his daughter, the bride. She was holding onto him and smiling but I couldn't be deceived by her smile because she was forcing it. She stood in front of Bryan who returned a smile. Bryan and Ingrid's wedding was supposed to be a joyous occasion. But it wasn't so because Ingrid broke down in tears, her body shuddering uncontrollably. It was shocking to see but the greatest shock was when she didn't return the vow and rejected Bryan. The murmurings filled the room. I wondered why Ingrid did what she did? Luckily, Adam was nice to sit next to me. "What's going on?" I whispered to Adam who looked as
***Scarlett***In silence, I watched every member of my pack from the balcony. It's been a very long time since I saw them happy. My pack had insisted that we hold a little celebration for defeating the Foss pack. I went with their suggestion and I'm glad they are all rejoicing. I couldn't forget about the photo I had seen. I knew if Bryan was close or if I were to see him, things would be much easier. He would be able to identify if he was related to the unknown man in the picture. As I continued watching, my mind drifted towards the thoughts of Alpha Westby. Something in me didn't trust that man, not after what he said to me when he came to meet me at the packhouse I was staying with James. His words were so harsh that I knew he wasn't bluffing. He didn't want me in Bryan's life and he wasn't going to tolerate seeing us together. I am a threat to his daughter's love life. I think Alpha Westby isn't the good man he pretends to be. That was the conclusion I got that day he came
***Bryan***If only I could have what my heart desires, I would want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with the woman I love. At first all I ever cared about was toa avenge the death of my pack. After meeting Scarlett everything changed. All that mattered to me was her. It's not surprising that Fate brought us together again after our path once crossed when we were much younger. Now, I'm stuck. Without Scarlett, I'm lost. In less than twenty-four hours, I'll be married to Ingrid. Will be referred to as her husband and as the alpha to the Mo pack. There's nothing much I can do about my situation. Holding onto some of the happy memories with Scarlett was giving me a form of peace. Even while I sat alone thinking of how tomorrow would turn out, I can't help but think about how Scarlett was coping. I heard she's been discharged and is doing great. Knowing she's alive after what Event did is enough to be grateful. "What are you doing?" Max asked, his eyes scanning
***Scarlett***Just as I feared, Holm and the men loyal to Evans began to attack my pack. We had selected an Alpha, Bill, who everyone had agreed to support as the leader of the pack. Sterling never wanted to contest for the Alpha position in the first place, although I would have loved it if he did. He wanted to remain the pack's beta. Holms' attacks had become frequent, so we had to make a plan. One containing the element of surprise. We made a plan and everyone agreed with it. We are to attack the Foss pack before dawn tomorrow. I'm sure they wouldn't be expecting it. The time came for us to storm into the Foss pack house. Bill led us and we carried out our plan successfully. Even though we surprised the Foss with our attack, the battle between our pack was fierce. In the end, my pack emerged victorious. There were a lot of casualties and injured people. Amongst them was Holm who we agreed to take back with us as our captive. I understood that if we were to kill Holm, then muc
***Scarlett***My wound felt tender even though it had almost healed. The hospital had ordered that I should be discharged because I was feeling much better. Sterling greeted me when I set foot into the pack house. So did other of the pack members who were awaiting my return. A few lamented how they had feared for my life when they heard that Evans had kidnapped me and shot me. I was sure they didn't get the whole story because no one was right about what transpired. "We're glad to have you back," Sterling said with a smile. "Although we're still worried because Evans is out there. We don't know what to expect." I nodded, scanning all the faces of those who were waiting to hear me speak out. "We can't let our guards down. Evans is dangerous as long as he is alive. We need to be very vigilant." Sterling nodded in agreement. "What do you suggest we do now? We are yet to have an Alpha. As the daughter of the former Alpha and an Alpha female of our pack we need to hear what your plan
***Scarlett*** Bryan couldn't let go of my hands. "I want you to promise me something," he whispered, his eyes locked with mine, piercing through them as I tried hard not to cry. I nodded, short of words. I was eager to hear what he wanted to say. My heart pounded heavily. My chest is heavy from anticipation. "Scarlett, my love, if I could choose again in the next life, know that I would choose you," he exhaled deeply. "I want you to promise me that whatever life time we find ourselves, we will find each other again." I whined out of pain. "I understand. I hope we do find each other again. I promise to find you." He leaned down and kissed my forehead, then looked into my eyes again. "Fate has bound me to Alpha Westy. I owe him my life. It's not easy to disobey him. Marrying Ingrid is my way of being grateful to him." "Shh…I understood," I placed a finger on his lips to silence him. "You don't need to say much. I know you're in a tight spot. It's already tough on you
***Scarlett*** I was in a state of panic as I watched Bryan try to save me first. Bryan must have followed his heart because Ingrid was so mad. I was helpless and bound to the chair, but Evans released me wanting us to play the next level of the game. He suddenly pointed the gun at Ingrid. Evans was determined. He wasn't bluffing. I was already angry that Bryan had chosen to save me instead of Ingrid. But seeing the poor lady die because of us was something I couldn't stand and watch. Bryan may not love her but I knew for sure that Ingrid's death was going to ruin him. Bryan was going to be the Mo pack's enemy. I trembled at the thought of Ingrid dying here. This is bad. If Ingrid ends up dead, then that means a bigger problem for Bryan. Alpha Westby might never forgive him. All this started because of me. If there was anyone who had to die, it should be me. I failed at killing Evans. Instead of dying in the fire, I ended up creating a monster. A devil who doesn't give up. Eva
***Bryan*** I couldn't breathe for a moment as I stared at the camera on my phone, my mind reeling with horror. Evans' twisted face leered back at me, his burned and scarred skin making him look like a beast from hell. "Come alone, Bryan," he sneered. "If you want to save either of them." He had said to me laughing evilly. My heart raced as I thought of Scarlett and Ingrid, both of them in Evans' custody. I found myself screaming inside my head. Why can't he just die? Scarlett was so sure that he died in the fire. what is this now? Evans had warned me not to come along with anyone. I promise him I wasn't going to bring anyone with me. I arrived at the destination, my heart pounding in my chest. The first thing I noticed was both Ingrid and Scarlett's scent. I heard a scream come from the building. I was sure he was torturing one of them. This sends me into a frenzy and I growled in anger pushing the door down with my weight. As I entered the dark room, I was taken aback by
