Chapter 3

Mia’s POV

The party surged in chaos, bodies swaying amidst a sea of bottles and deafening music. The air was thick with the scent of alcohol and sweat.

It was overwhelming, suffocating even.

People looked around at me. Their eyes bright with malicious sparkles.

“Mia River?”

One guy giggled. He shoved his drunken date aside and advanced on me, “Alpha Adrian’s rejected mate? Hell, she is hotter in reality than TV!”

A couple more men came at my way, their eyes hazy and unfocused.

I took a shaky step back, but instead bumped into a muscular chest—somebody had blocked my way out from the back.

“Stay away from me…” I gritted, my voice quivering. “I don’t fucking know you!”

They burst into laughter, “Oh come on. Don’t be a prude. The Alpha left you already. You got nothing else to do anyway. Let us keep you company!”

“No—NO!” I shrieked, “I am calling the police!”

Yet they didn’t give a fuck about my threat.

Someone held my shoulders, a few more grabbed me by my feet. Together they lifted me up in the air and carried me into the room like I was their trophy.

“HELP—NO!!”I screamed at the top of my lung.

But my voice was drowned out by the roaring sound.

They threw me onto a huge coach full of people. The next second, somebody pressed onto me, breathing down my neck.

“How did Alpha Adrian touch you in bed, huh?” he ran a hand down my body, “Like this? You like that?”

I shivered in horror, “No…don’t…”

“I have never fucked a Luna before!” a gruff voice cackled. “We are all in luck tonight!”

A girl lying by my side wrapped a lock of my hair around her finger and smirked, “What’s Alpha Adrian like in bed? Is he good? Is he into any kinky stuff?”

Her friend snorted, “Don’t bother asking. Look at her, she is such a prude! I bet that’s why the Alpha left her—because she can’t satisfy him in bed!”

I struggled underneath them, raised my head up gasping for air. Desperation filled my eyes. How did things end up like this—

“…Mia?”

A vague voice came from the depth of the coach. Somehow, I found this voice familiar.

A blurred figure sat up. I couldn’t see his face clearly in the dim light.

“Mia!” he cried again in an urgent voice, pushing through the crowd, coming closer to me. “Mia is that you?!”

I reached out my hands towards him crying, “Yes! It’s me!”

I didn’t know whom he was. But maybe he could save me.

He shoved the heavy body off me and grabbed my hand, his fingers ice cold. The next second, I was pulled into a pair of strong arms.

“What the fuck!” the man on top of me earlier yelled. “Me first—”

“LIGHTS ON!” snarled the person holding me right now.

All lights in the living room were switched on automatically, freezing the sea of party people. The deafening music stopped abruptly. The room lapsed into a deathly silence.

I panted, still recovering from the shock.

And then slowly, I looked up.

The young man holding me was in his early twentieth. He was like something out of a dream, drop-dead gorgeous. His face was just perfect, like it was a masterpiece of god. And those eyes? They were stunning green, like leaves in springtime.

Being around him felt electric, like there was this energy crackling in the air.

He had a way of drowning people in with his eyes.

…And most importantly, he looked a lot like Adrian.

I stared at him with my lips parted in shock.

I knew this guy.

“…Liam?” I gasped out his name.

Liam’s jaw tensed. Suddenly, he threw his arms around me and buried his face into my neck, “Mia…Thank god!”

I listened to his racing heartbeat in this proximity, still in a trance.

Liam Sinclair.

Adrian Sinclair’s younger brother.

But why was he here? He lived next door to Jace? Did he host this party?

Everyone was staring at us with a weird gaze. The guy who was groping me all over was on the floor now, looking mad.

“Liam, what was that about?” the guy grumbled, “We can share her if you want. No need to push—”

Liam looked around at him, his eyes freezing cold, “Did you touch her?”

“Well yeah…”

“Which hand did you use?” Liam gritted.

The guy’s mouth dropped open. He looked even more perplexed, infuriated, “I used both of my fucking hands, OK? Seriously Liam! What’s wrong with you? It’s your damn party—”

Before he finished with his accusation, Liam grabbed a wine bottle from the table and—

BANG!

He smashed the bottle onto the guy’s head!

The bottle shattered, blood streaming down the guy’s face.

Liam didn’t give him a chance to react and lunged at him again, grabbing him by the collar and throwing a strong punch right into his face!

That guy eyes rolled back and fainted without a fight. But Liam is still punching him like a sandbag.

A round of astonished gasps could be heard from the crowd. I stifled a cry, looking at Liam in horror.

This wasn’t like the Liam that I used to know…He was going to kill the man!

“Liam! Enough!”

I jumped off the coach to stop him. He jerked around, a cold glint in his green eyes.

“—EVERYBODY OUT!” he snarled, his gaze still fixed upon me.

He didn’t need say another word.

Every single person had seen his frantic reaction just a moment earlier. They couldn’t wait to escape him.

Within moments, the spacious apartment was evacuated, leaving a floor of empty bottles and litters.

“Mia, I—”

I cut him off, “This is your party?”

Liam gulped. The fierce look disappeared from his face. He now looked ashamed.

“…Yeah.” He answered lowly, “Thank god nothing happened to you.”

“What were you thinking, Liam?!” I snapped, “This is what you have been doing? When did you become a fuck boy! Does Adrian know about this?”

He snapped his head up, “I don’t want to talk about him!”

I glared at him, my heart filled with disappointment.

Before mated with Adrian, I was his assistant for 2 years. Part of my job was to babysit Liam, who was still in high school at the moment.

We were very closed.

Liam would come into my office after school and ask for my help with geometry. It took me a while to finally realize that a straight-A student like Jake didn’t need any helps with schoolwork.

He just wanted to spend time with me.

Things changed when Adiran announced me as his Luna. Liam strongly opposed to our marriage and got into a huge fight with his brother. I didn’t know what they argued about exactly. But in the end, Liam left home, didn’t even come to our wedding.

The last thing that I knew about him was that he went to another pack for college, studying art.

He should have graduated by this moment. I always assumed that he had got a job somewhere or would come back to assist his brother at some point.

Never had I thought that I would ran into him here! At an fucking orgy! That he threw!

“Mia…MIA! Listen to me!” He grabbed my hand urgently, “I didn’t mean for you to see this…”

“But I saw it anyway, didn’t I!”

I took my wrist back and rushed to the door. He hurried behind me, “Please let’s talk—”

I kicked an empty bottle out of my way and snapped, “We’ll talk when you are sober!”

“At least tell me what happened with you and Adrian!” he cried, “I heard them calling you ‘discarded Luna’…What was that?!”

I stopped by the door.

He was so indulged in booze and women that he didn’t hear the breaking news of my divorce yet.

“Why don’t you check the news? The whole world knows now.” I said, trembling, “And call an ambulance for that poor guy! You are already a fuckboy, don’t become a murderer!”

With that said, I slammed the door onto his face and rushed back to my apartment.

After pacing back and forth in the living room for a few rounds, I finally got my racing heart to calm down.

…It’s not the time to worry about Liam.

I still got works to do.

Adrian divorced me, which meant that I had probably lost my job at the Sinclair Enterprise as well.

Yet the upside was that I still had that 2 million settlement f*e. With that money, I could finally clear up my parent’s debt and took over the company that my parents left me with.

I clenched my fists, my resolve stiffened.

I knew that the whole world was waiting to make fun of me, to humiliate me, just like those drunk addicts at Liam’s party.

But I wouldn’t give them the chance.

If I could pull off my own career, nobody would dare laugh at me.

I took in a deep breathe, ready to get to work, and then suddenly realized something.

…I didn’t get a chance to collect my belongings.

All the important files, my laptop, my work cell were still left at Adrian’s mansion.

Which meant that I needed to go back to my ex-husband’s house one more time.
