Chapter 4

Mia’s POV

I could ask Jace to pick up all my belongings for me. I also knew that with Lorelei back in town, I would probably run into people I didn’t want to meet with if I went back to Adrian’s house.

But it was a fight that I couldn’t ran away from. And I couldn’t bother Jace anymore. He had done enough for me.

The next day, I used a full day to prep myself and headed to my battlefield at dusk.

The security at the front gate still recognized me. After hearing out my reasons for being here, they let me through.

I climbed the hill by feet, through the winding path that led to mansion. The crisp evening air whispered through the trees. As I climbed, I stole glances over my shoulder, watching as the last rays of light kissed the rooftops, bathing them in a soft, golden hue.

It was scene worth billions of dollars, exclusive to the Alpha himself. As Adrian’s wife, I had the luxury of enjoying this view everyday while jogging along the path, or riding in the same car with Adrian back to the mansion.

But now, that luxury was taken away from me.

Soon there would be another woman moved into the mansion. She would replace me completely

My heart started to ache. Tears welled up.

I quickly wiped the corner of my eyes and kept up climbing.

Reaching the clearing near the top, I saw in the distance that the mansion’s front door was wide open.

I held my breathe in excitement—maybe I could easily sneak into the house and take away my belongings without anyone noticing?

That would save me from any direct confrontation.

Putting on a baseball hat that I brought from Jace’s closet, I snuck up to the door.

A couple of maids and servants were busy bustling about in the foyer. Boxes and furniture were scattered all over the places. Looked like they were redecorating the house.

I lowered my head and blended into the hustling crowd. I pretended to help them with the boxes while secretly looking for my stuffs.

“Hey!” a maid tapped on my shoulder, “I have already sealed those boxes. What were you doing fumbling about?”

“N—Nothing!” I quickly hid my face from her searching gaze.

“Wait a second.” She grabbed my elbow, “Are you stealing from the Alpha?!”

My heart rate quickened. From a peripheral look, I saw a couple of heads turned to my way and that included my former housemaid Mrs. Jones.

“I am not a thief!” I hissed in panic, “Now let go!”

The maid rounded her eyes abruptly.

She saw my face underneath the baseball hat.

“Oh my god—LUNA MIA!”

I froze as everyone in the foyer turned their gazes at me. I got nowhere to hide.

“Luna Mia, what are you doing here?” Mrs. Jones walked up to me, astounded. “I thought I made it clear the other day…the Alpha doesn’t want you here…”

The maid pointed at an opened box besides my feet, shrieking, “She is here to steal from us!”

I suck in a sharp breathe, my face tomato-red.

“NO!” I raised my voice, trying to explain. “I came back for my own stuffs—”

Yet no one listened. There was an outbreak of mutterings at this:

“Can you believe this? The former Luna is now a thief…”

“I know her life must be hard after Alpha Adrian abandoned her…But stealing? Doesn’t she have any self-esteem?”

“Shall we let the Alpha know about this?”

I really had nothing to hide but the way they looked at me made my face burn with embarrassment.

I raised my voice once again trying to get their attention, “LISTEN—”

“—Mia Rivers?”

A soft voice came from the second floor.

I raised my head and saw an incredibly beautiful woman standing by the corner of the spiral staircase, gazing down at me.

Her body was a work of art, sculpted to perfection by the hands of god. The Chanel she was wearing fit her perfectly.

Her face, adorned with striking features, boasts eyes the color of sapphire, sparkling with mischief and allure.

I looked like a clown standing next to her.

Lorelei Monroe.

The world-famous super model.

The love of my ex-husband’s life.

I stood stiffly as she made her way down the staircase with grace and gave me a smile that could cultivate the coldest heart:

“What brings you here, Mia? How can I help?”

She sounded like she was the hostess of the house. Why wouldn’t she be? Adrian already let her redecorate the house. He wouldn’t even allow me to move a vase in the past.

“I came to collet my belongings.” I answered with as much dignity as possible.

She raised an eyebrow, “Oh? But Mrs. Jones had packed all your stuffs and left them outside of the house. Nothing in this house belongs to you now.”

“I didn’t take anything away with me—”

Lorelei let out a giggle, “So are you saying that I lied? Or Mrs. Jones lied? That we commandeered your stuffs?”

I parted my lips in shock—That was not what I was saying at all!

Mrs. Jones looked at me with disappointment, “How can you accuse Ms. Monroe like that? I thought you were a reasonable person. I can vouch for Ms. Monroe. She didn’t touch any of your stuffs! I left all your belongings outside and they disappeared themselves in the morning.”

“And she snuck in with a baseball hat!” A maid cried, “If you ask me, she was trying to steal from us!”

My breathing quickened as I cried, “NO! For the third time! I was looking for my own belongings—”

“Then why didn’t you call Mrs. Jones? Or Adrian? Or anyone in this household to help you? Why did you secretly sneak in?” Lorelei asked with a perfect smile, “Forgive me Mia…I find all your excuses very hard to believe.”

I looked at her blankly.

I came in secret because I didn’t want to face my ex-husband, or his gorgeous new love, or anyone who might see me as a joke.

Lorelei looked like a smart woman. She must know about this.

So she was doing this just to embarrass me.

“…What do you want?” I gritted, glaring at Lorelei.

Lorelei blinked innocently, “I should be asking that question, Mia. It’s you who broke into MY house. What have you set eyes on? The antique vase? The paintings? My jewelry?”

There was a round of snickers.

I couldn’t stand this brutal humiliation anymore. So I turned abruptly and strode to the front door. Running away from a battlefield was embarrassing but I didn’t have any other choice.

“Mrs. Jones.” Lorelei’s idle voice came from my back, “What do we do when we find a thief in our house?”

“We should call the police, madam.”

“Then what are we still waiting for? GUARDS!”

Security guys jumped at me, grabbing me by the shoulders and pressed me against the wall like I was a criminal.

“Are you all crazy?!” I cried, “I am your Luna—”

“WAS. Our Luna.” Lorelei smiled, “I know that you are trying very hard to forget this—But Adrian had divorced you.”

I shivered involuntarily in horror.

If the police came…If I ended up in jail…If words got out about this…

I would be laughed at by the whole world!

The news would trash me relentlessly, painting me as a shameless and crazy woman. I would be socially dead. Nobody would want to hire me or do business with me. My dream of inheriting my parent’s company would be dead as well…

“…Please! No police…” I cried in a broken voice. “Just let me go…I shouldn’t come here today…I—I am sorry Lorelei…”

Lorelei let out a sigh, “Sorry? Oh, Mia…How about the next time you don’t try and steal from other people?”

That vicious woman!

“I have called the police!” said Mrs. Jones loudly.

“Good. Let’s wait for the officers to arrive—”

BANG!

The front door was wrenched open by a great force. Everybody wheeled around and saw a tall figure standing by the entrance.

“Put you fucking hands off Mia!” he snarled.
