Brielle's POV.

I woke up slowly, my eyes fluttering open to the sight of a lavish room. Soft, golden light streamed through sheer curtains, illuminating the ornate furnishings and intricate tapestries that adorned the walls. I blinked, trying to piece together where I was and how I had gotten here. The events of the previous night felt like a distant nightmare, yet the pain in my legs and the dull ache in my body told me it was all too real.

Memories of the mountain lion, the fierce fight, and the man—Rio—who had saved me came rushing back. My heart raced as I recalled the terror and the relief, and I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. I struggled to sit up, wincing as pain shot through my legs.

Just then, the door to the room opened, and Rio stepped in. His golden hair caught the light, and his eyes softened as he saw me.

"You're awake," he said, a note of relief in his voice. "How are you feeling?"

"Sore," I admitted, my voice still hoarse. "But...thank you. For everything. I don't know what would have happened if you hadn't shown up."

"You don't need to thank me," Rio replied, moving to sit on the edge of the bed. "I'm just glad I was there in time. You were in pretty bad shape when I found you."

I nodded, remembering the overwhelming fear and pain. "Where am I?" I asked, looking around the room again.

"You're in my pack's territory," Rio explained. "This is our guest quarters. We wanted to make sure you were comfortable while you recovered."

"I can't stay here," I said, trying to swing my legs over the side of the bed. "I need to get home. My...my partner, Chase, he'll be worried."

Rio gently but firmly stopped me. "You're not in any condition to go anywhere right now. You need to rest. You've been through a lot."

"I appreciate your concern," I said, frustration creeping into my voice. "But I really need to go. I'm pregnant, and I can't just disappear without letting Chase know where I am."

Rio's eyes widened slightly at my words. "You're pregnant?" he repeated, his tone shifting to one of even greater concern. "All the more reason for you to stay here and recover properly. I've arranged for our nurses to take care of you and make sure you and your baby are safe."

"I can't impose on you like this," I insisted, trying to stand again despite the pain.

"Brielle, please," Rio said, his voice firm but kind. "I can't in good conscience let an injured woman, especially one who's pregnant, leave without making sure she's okay. You need to rest, and we need to make sure you're not seriously hurt."

I sighed, feeling the weight of his words. He was right, of course. I was in no condition to travel, and the thought of endangering my baby by pushing myself too hard was too much to bear. But the urgency of getting back to Chase gnawed at me.

"Alright," I conceded reluctantly. "But I need to contact Chase. He needs to know I'm okay."

Rio nodded. "Of course. I'll make sure you can contact him as soon as possible. For now, just focus on resting and letting us take care of you."

I lay back against the pillows, feeling a mix of gratitude and frustration. The room was beautiful, and Rio's concern was genuine, but I couldn't shake the feeling of being trapped, of being helpless.

As if sensing my inner turmoil, Rio stood up and smiled reassuringly. "You're safe here, Brielle. My pack is here to protect you. If you need anything, just let us know."

"Thank you," I said again, my voice softer. "For everything."

Rio nodded and left the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts. I closed my eyes, trying to find some semblance of calm in the midst of the chaos that had become my life. The soft sounds of the pack's activities outside the room were oddly soothing, a reminder that I wasn't alone.

I drifted in and out of sleep, my dreams a tangle of memories and fears. Each time I woke, I felt a little stronger, the pain in my body gradually easing. At some point, a nurse came in, checking my vitals and making sure I was comfortable. She was kind and efficient, her presence reassuring.

As the day wore on, I couldn't help but wonder about Rio and his pack. Who were they? Why had he risked his life to save me? And what did this mean for my own future? The questions swirled in my mind, refusing to be silenced.

By evening, I was feeling well enough to sit up and eat a little. A tray of food was brought to me, and I forced myself to eat, knowing I needed the strength. Just as I finished, Rio returned, his expression calm and composed.

"How are you feeling now?" he asked, sitting down beside the bed again.

"Better," I admitted. "The food helped. Thank you."

"I'm glad to hear that," he said. "I've arranged for you to contact Chase. We have a secure line you can use."

Relief washed over me. "Thank you, Rio. I really appreciate it."

He nodded. "I understand how important it is to let your loved ones know you're safe. But Brielle, please promise me you'll rest and let us take care of you. You've been through a lot, and you need time to heal."

"I promise," I said, feeling a little more at ease. "I'll rest."

"Good," Rio said, standing up. "I'll be back soon with the phone. In the meantime, if you need anything, just call for one of the nurses."

As he left the room again, I leaned back against the pillows, feeling a little more hopeful. I would contact Chase, let him know I was safe, and then focus on getting better. For now, I was in good hands, and that was enough.

They had a lot of experience in handling injuries, not like this though, but injuries still. I knew she would be well taken care of. It wasn’t just her physical health that concerned me, though. The fear and stress she’d been through would take some time to heal, and I wanted to make sure that she had everything she needed to recover fully. As I walked down the corridor, my thoughts went back to the moment I first saw her. Brielle. That was what the nurse told me. The name suited her perfectly, and she was a beauty. She had been in such a vulnerable state, yet there was an undeniable grace about her. Even covered in dirt and blood, she looked stunning, right before she woke up. And when she opened her eyes, I got lost. When I saw her in the forest, at first, I was taken aback by her beauty. Her long, dark hair, her striking eyes, and the way

After that terrifying attack, I didn’t want to be out on my own in a space I didn’t know, so I was hoping that the guard would help me. The space was big and beautiful, with tall trees swaying gently in the breeze and flowers in full bloom, and their pretty colours was a feast for the eyes. The pack members moved about with purpose, and some even waved at me, and I wondered just how nice these people could be with how good they were treating me when they didn’t even know me or anything. I wondered when I’d be cleared to go home too. What would Lucien and Zane think of my disappearance? Would they be worried? Angry? A pang of guilt hit me as I realised that I had thought about Lucien before Zane, but I quickly pushed it aside. I needed to focus on healing, both physically and emotionally and being

Brielle’s POV. “No, no. It’s fine. I just want to be up for a while, actually.” I said, chuckling, and Rio shook his head. “Why? Aren’t you tired? Or do you need something?” Before I could answer, he continued. “Maybe I’ve been a bad host, but I’d like for you to tell me whatever it is that you might need, and it will be provided.” Well, that was odd. If I didn’t know better, I’d say that he saw me as the alpha of a powerful kingdom, and was trying to suck up to me. “No! You, everything you’ve done has been wonderful, believe me. I just like to stay up late sometimes.” He nodded. “So do I. Actually I stay up most nights, because sleep doesn’t come easy to me, so…” “I think I get it.” I said, walking in front of him, and the guards followed us closely. He lingered at the door of my assigned room before I chuckled slightly. “You can come in, we were having a conversation before I started coming here anyway.” I sighed as I settled down onto the bed, looking up. Brielle’s POV. A little over a week had passed since I had got here, and I was starting to feel comfortable, too comfortable. Staying here no longer felt like a vacation, but I felt like I was actually at home, which wasn’t something nice if one thought about it deeply, but that’s not the point here. I came out to see pretty lights, tents and decorations going up, and I was pleasantly surprised, because who doesn’t love a nice party? Especially when you could smell nice things cooking, and you think of the enjoyment in store for you if you attended. I wasn’t informed of any parties, and since I wasn’t a native here, I was as confused as a newborn mouse. I heard Rio shouting something to someone, and waited for him to finish with what he was doing. Soon, he walked up to me. “You’re finally up. I thought we’d have to send in a doctor.” He pulled me into a one armed hug from the side. “Yeah.” I friend as we pulled away, touching my belly. “I was really tired.” “You need as mu

He had been acting so well lately, but it was when I had finally told him that he was a good person that he decided to act out? What was it with men? I shook my head, proud of myself for pushing him away, and I started putting together the money I had. I’d leave the clothes here. I came here with nothing but my clothes, and I’d leave that way. It wasn’t like anything I was being offered here, I wouldn’t be able get it by asking Zane or Lucien to do it for me. All the ease of mind that this place had offered me suddenly went up, and I was ready to burst into tears at this moment. I should have known that something was up when he was throwing this party for me. You don’t throw parties for just anybody. I wasn’t interested in him, so I would never encourage him to like me like that. There was a soft knock on my door, and I knew who it was. “Don’t com

I found it just laying there in the middle of the road. Came into town three weeks back and had been missing since.” He explained. His words sank in sadly. A royal family member dead and abandoned on the street?
