Lucien’s POV.
There was nothing I could do to make Brielle trust me, apparently. After everything we had gone through, she had the mind to do this to me. I was angry, but I felt terrible about everything. I didn’t look back at Zane as I walked away, because in a way, my anger was extended to him. If he didn’t take my woman away from me, then we would not have been going through all of this. I shook my head. No, that wasn’t right. Even before she and Zane got together, we were not exactly the chummiest of buddies, and I was always too busy to make out time for her when I should have. All this was on me! I wondered if she shared her problems with Zane. If she had deemed him worthy of being her supporter, and left me behind. But if that was so, why didn’t she just stick to him for everything? Why did she come to me for her sexual needs? Was Zane that terrible in— A shudder passed through me, I didn’t want to think about my brother in such a manner. My main focus was supposed to be on Brielle. “Angelina?” I called out as I got into my office. She was nowhere to be found, and I wondered where she had gone. Brielle could keep a secret affair with me, and now she was keeping a secret from me? I locked the trash can in my office in annoyance. “Fuck!” I spat. How had I given her so much power over me? “If it turns out it’s something serious… that woman better just be having an attitude and nothing else.” I muttered to myself, but deep down, I knew that an attitude would not cause her to completely shut me out from her mind and her body. She wouldn’t avoid me this way because of an attitude. There was something more. Or was it Zane? Did he do something to her? I was seething stop this point because if Zane did anything, I would tear him apart, limb by limb, but I knew my brother. Sure, he might be a mate stealing maniac, he would never harm a woman. “I have to find out what she is hiding from me.” I sighed, taking a seat. “But how? What can I do?” She wouldn’t talk to me, but I could watch her. It’s probably invasion of her privacy, but if she was in trouble, I had to know, and I had to help. She had no say in that. The question was, how would I do that? I need someone to be able to be mg eyes and ears around her. The issue of her privacy was nothing in comparison to this, and he needed someone who could stand in as a spy for access to whatever it was that had been going on in her life since the past week. I could smell Angelina’s perfume before she got into the office, and the click clack of her shoes only accentuated her presence. “Alpha, you’re back.” She sighed. “I had to go and attend to some of the duties that you had assigned to me.” She said with a small smile, and I nodded. I completely forgot that her tasks for the day would require her to go outside. “No wonder you weren’t in.” I replied, and she nodded. “Yes.” She leaned on the desk, causing the neckline of her dress to fall forward. I always knew that Angelina had a thing for me, and I wondered if she didn’t find it weird, with her sister and everything. I had nothing to do with her. And all I could hope for was that the message was clear. “You can take a seat if you don’t feel comfortable standing.” I said curtly, and she nodded. “Alright, thank you boss.” She said, taking a seat and playing with her hair before toying with her necklace. Seems like she didn’t know that I already knew about these manipulation tactics done by women, and they wouldn’t work on me. “Angelina, is there anything that you have to say to me?” I asked her, and she shrugged. “No, I just wanted to check on you, to see how you’re doing too. Are you good? You didn’t seem so fine at the meeting today.” Angelina fluttered her eyelashes. “Yeah, I’m okay. I was just a little preoccupied with my thought. A lot of things going on in this head.” I sighed. “Okay, maybe I can help with that.” Her voice had dropped low and was sultry and she bent lower. “Yes, maybe you can actually help me. You know a lot of things about a lot of people, right?” I asked her. “Yes, what do you need?” She nodded. “I need some information, and I was hoping I would count on you.” “Anything, alpha Lucien.” She batted her lashes. With the look on her face, I wondered if I could take back my words and let her go her way. “Do you know anything about Brielle? Anything that has been going on with her?” I leaned forward and she sighed, shaking her head. “I don’t know much about her. Why? Has she committed a crime or something? Last time I checked you two weren’t together anymore.” She looked at me warily. “Do you know anything about Brielle and what is going on with her? Yes or no is supposed to be in your answer.” I was already getting irritated. “Uh, no. I don’t know anything about her for now, but I can help you if you need to find something out.” I wanted to accept the offer, but I had to think about Brielle first. Angelina didn’t exactly like Brielle, and I didn’t think I would feel alright with Angelina stalking her. No. I’d just continue confronting her in that case, until she gives in. “What do you say, Lucien? Should I give you a hand?” She sat, waiting.Brielle’s POV I paced back and forth in our living room, my heart pounding like a drum. This secret that I was carrying was suffocating me, and I couldn’t keep it to myself any longer. Zane needed to know, but how could I possibly tell him? Taking a deep breath, I called out. “Zane, we need to talk.” He got out from the kitchen, a worried look already etched on his face. “Baby, what’s wrong? You look pale. Is it the baby?” Then he widened his eyes. “Oh wait, is it me?” The concern in his voice pierced my heart, making the guilt swell more inside me. He was so caring, so devoted. How could I keep this from him? But I had to. For now, at least. “Zane, it’s not just about the pregnancy.” I said, my voice trembling. “There’s more to it.” He stepped closer, his eyes searching mine. “Whatever it is, Brielle, we’ll get through it together. Don’t worry. I’m here for you.” His words, meant to comfort me, only made the guilt more unbearable. Tears welled up in my eyes
Brielle's POV I felt my foot slip and the ground give way beneath me. My heart seized in my chest, and my scream could not stay trapped in my throat as I began to fall. I was panicking, and the thought that this was it— I was going to lose my baby because of my reckless, desperate initial decision, held me by the neck. If I survived the floor, my conscience would never let me live. But just as I felt myself pitch forward, a strong hand grabbed my arm, yanking me back from the edge. Right after I had already seen my life flash before my eyes. I stumbled forward, crashing into the solid wall of a chest. My vision swam, heart hammering in my ears. I looked up to see Damien, one of the pack members, and he looked extremely concerned. That was close. Too close. “Brielle! Are you alright?” He asked, his voice a bit shaky. I nodded, trying to catch my breath. “I... I think so. You saved me. Thank you.” He released my arm gently but kept another hand on my shoulder to steady
Brielle’s POV. I woke up first, the events of what happened rushing back into my mind with a rush of emotions. I lay there for a moment, feeling Lucien's warmth beside me, but reality quickly set in. I gently tapped his shoulder, trying to shake him awake without making too much noise. “Lucien!” I whispered, my voice sharp. “You need to leave. Now!” He stirred, blinking his eyes open. “What? Why?” He muttered, trying to wrap his arm around me for a cuddle. I pushed him away, sitting up and wrapping the sheet around me. “Lucien, we’re at Zane’s. You can’t stay here, obviously.” His expression changed from confusion to understanding. He nodded slowly, sitting up and running a hand through his hair. “Right. I’ll go.” I got up and started gathering the sheets, determined to get them into the washing machine before Zane came back. Lucien stood and began dressing, helping me with the sheets. As we worked quickly, the silence between us was still heavy, filled with a lot
Brielle’s POV. I stood frozen, my heart pounding in my chest as the low, menacing growl echoed through the forest. My eyes darted around, but I couldn’t see anything. It was getting da, and every shadow seemed to move in my eyes. My thoughts raced as being pregnant made this situation ten times worse. I had to get out of here. Taking a deep breath, I quickly scanned the area, looking for a way out. I didn’t have much time. I turned to run, but then I saw it. It was a mountain lion, powerful, stepping out of the shadows. Its eyes locked onto me, watching my every move. I took off, running as fast as I could, my breath coming in short, panicked gasps. The forest blurred around me, branches scratching at my skin, but I didn’t care. I just needed to get away. The sound of the mountain lion’s paws hitting the ground behind me filled me with terror. It was fast, too fast. My legs burned, and my lungs felt like they were on fire. The pain of running so much and so quickly was unbearable
Chapter Seventeen.Brielle’s POV. I struggled to keep my eyes open, my vision blurring in and out of focus. The man’s soothing voice tried to pull me back from the edge of unconsciousness. “Miss, stay with me. Are you alright?” He asked again, his tone calming. “I... I think so.” I managed to say, my voice very low. “Good. Just hang on a little longer.” He said, his eyes searching my face. I nodded weakly, trying to focus on his face, but the world around me seemed to spin. The man glanced around, then back at me, his concern obvious. “I need to get you some water. Will you be okay if I leave for just a moment?” He asked me. I nodded again, though I wasn’t sure how okay I would be. “Please, hurry.” He squeezed my shoulder reassuringly before standing up and moving quickly towards the nearby stream. I watched him go, my breath coming in shallow, painful gasps. The adrenaline from the encounter was fading, leaving behind an overwhelming exhaustion and the sharp pain
Brielle's POV. I woke up slowly, my eyes fluttering open to the sight of a lavish room. Soft, golden light streamed through sheer curtains, illuminating the ornate furnishings and intricate tapestries that adorned the walls. I blinked, trying to piece together where I was and how I had gotten here. The events of the previous night felt like a distant nightmare, yet the pain in my legs and the dull ache in my body told me it was all too real.Memories of the mountain lion, the fierce fight, and the man—Rio—who had saved me came rushing back. My heart raced as I recalled the terror and the relief, and I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. I struggled to sit up, wincing as pain shot through my legs.Just then, the door to the room opened, and Rio stepped in. His golden hair caught the light, and his eyes softened as he saw me."You're awake," he said, a note of relief in his voice. "How are you feeling?""Sore," I admitted, my voice still hoarse. "But...thank you. For everythin
Chapter Nineteen.Rio’s POV. I had left the room quietly, leaving the beautiful woman in the capable hands of our nurses to take care of. They had a lot of experience in handling injuries, not like this though, but injuries still. I knew she would be well taken care of. It wasn’t just her physical health that concerned me, though. The fear and stress she’d been through would take some time to heal, and I wanted to make sure that she had everything she needed to recover fully. As I walked down the corridor, my thoughts went back to the moment I first saw her. Brielle. That was what the nurse told me. The name suited her perfectly, and she was a beauty. She had been in such a vulnerable state, yet there was an undeniable grace about her. Even covered in dirt and blood, she looked stunning, right before she woke up. And when she opened her eyes, I got lost. When I saw her in the forest, at first, I was taken aback by her beauty. Her long, dark hair, her striking eyes, and the way
Chapter Twenty.Brielle’s POV. I walked through the pack’s territory with a guard trailing a few steps behind me. For my security, Rio had told me, and I was actually grateful for that. After that terrifying attack, I didn’t want to be out on my own in a space I didn’t know, so I was hoping that the guard would help me. The space was big and beautiful, with tall trees swaying gently in the breeze and flowers in full bloom, and their pretty colours was a feast for the eyes. The pack members moved about with purpose, and some even waved at me, and I wondered just how nice these people could be with how good they were treating me when they didn’t even know me or anything. I wondered when I’d be cleared to go home too. What would Lucien and Zane think of my disappearance? Would they be worried? Angry? A pang of guilt hit me as I realised that I had thought about Lucien before Zane, but I quickly pushed it aside. I needed to focus on healing, both physically and emotionally and being
Brielle’s POVI stood by the window, my heart heavy with sorrow. The height below blurred through my tears as I looked down, eager to jump but afraid. Everything I had known, everything I had hoped for, was gone. My home, my father, even the child I had dreamed of was dead. There was nothing left for me, I felt. Seeing Lucien burst into the room shocked me, but it was the anger in his eyes that truly surprised me.I stood there frozen, my heart beating fast and my thoughts racing. I saw his furious stare pierce through me.I was so lost in my sorrow that when his voice cut through the silence, I was shocked and almost tripped. “Brielle, what are you doing? Get down from there!” he yelled, his voice echoing in the room.I didn’t respond. What could I say to him? He wouldn’t even understand. There was no way he would possibly understand the depth of my loss and my pain. If he even cared. I turned back and stared out the window, feeling the air on my face. Lucien’s presence behind me
Lucien’s POVSeeing the dead body lying there, my mind raced. I pulled out my phone I hard pocketed earlier and dialed for an ambulance. When the paramedics arrived, they quickly loaded the body onto a stretcher. I decided to follow them to the hospital, needing to get some answers. At the hospital, I waited anxiously while the doctors examined the body. Eventually, they came out to speak to the person who had found the body.I was met by one of the doctors, who immediately recognized me. “Are you the one who found the body, Alpha?” he asked.“Yes, yes. I found it just laying there in the middle of the road. Do you know who he is, Doctor?” I asked, trying to piece together the mystery as I stood to meet him.The doctor nodded gravely. ”He’s a member of the royal families. Came into town three weeks back and had been missing since.” He explained. His words sank in sadly. A royal family member dead and abandoned on the street? This was really bad especially how we were beginning to do b
Lucien’s POVI woke up to the sound of Zane’s heavy footsteps walking into my room. As I opened my eyes, his angry presence stood over me on the bed.Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I looked up to see his face formed with rage.“What the hell did you do?” he spat, his voice trembling with anger he could clearly barely contain.I frowned, genuinely confused. “What are you talking about?” I questioned, trying to sit up. “Alpha Rio is in the hospital. And I know you had something to do with it.”I sat up, guiltily feeling the accusation hit me like a punch to the stomach. “I didn’t do anything to Rio,” I denied, trying to keep my voice calm.“Don’t lie to me!” Zane shouted painfully. I stared at him, remaining silent, my blank expression only seeming to anger him more though.“Did you do it?” he demanded once again. “Do what?” I replied, knowing exactly what he was referring to, but I wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of a straight answer.“Don’t play dumb, Lucien. I know you
Lucien’s POVWe sat in the wardroom waiting for the doctor’s report and the doctor. I had never felt suspense like I did on that day. My heart ponded in my chest as I stared at Zane who paced back and forth the room in frustration.“Where is the damn doctor?!” he growled angrily.“I am here,” the doctor announced as he pushed open the door with a file in his arm. And behind him was two other doctors who looked like they had just seen a ghost. I know from experience that when doctors form a pack to deliver a news to someone, especially my family, it was never something pleasant.“Prince Zane, Lady Brielle…”“Let me cut you off there Doctor,” Brielle said with groans of pain as she sat up to look at them in the eyes. “I already know about your judicial crap, so deliver the bad news,”I sighed heavily and relaxed my back on the chair to listen to what he had to say.“Your scans and test result came in, and there was no forced entry in the vagina that we can use for a rape case, although
Brielle’s POV“Do you know what a pink wolfsbane do to our kind?” he asked as he concocted a pink elixir in a bottle.I passed out after he choked the air out of me and I woke up in a bedroom with my hands tied to the bed.“Rio? What are you doing?” I looked around in fright because I already had an idea of what he was about to do.“You know, growing up I was seen as a menace. A mess that affects everything in his path but that’s not it,” the way he spoke and walked around like a psychopath had my heartbeat hard against my chest. He leaned over, sniffing my face with drools dripping out from his mouth, “I am not a psycho, just misunderstood. No one ever tries to understand me,”“Rio, whatever you think you are doing is wrong. Okay? Its all wrong and you know it,”“Wrong, right, good, bad, black, white. Those are all human’s way of thinking and we are not humans, we are creatures that surpasses the imagination.” He said as he looked me in the eyes. With a deep sigh, he pried open my mo
Brielle’s POV. I went to sit in my room, super annoyed. Why Rio had just tried to do that didn’t stick out to me, and I was annoyed. He had been acting so well lately, but it was when I had finally told him that he was a good person that he decided to act out? What was it with men? I shook my head, proud of myself for pushing him away, and I started putting together the money I had. I’d leave the clothes here. I came here with nothing but my clothes, and I’d leave that way. It wasn’t like anything I was being offered here, I wouldn’t be able get it by asking Zane or Lucien to do it for me. All the ease of mind that this place had offered me suddenly went up, and I was ready to burst into tears at this moment. I should have known that something was up when he was throwing this party for me. You don’t throw parties for just anybody. I wasn’t interested in him, so I would never encourage him to like me like that. There was a soft knock on my door, and I knew who it was. “Don’t com
Brielle’s POV. A little over a week had passed since I had got here, and I was starting to feel comfortable, too comfortable. Staying here no longer felt like a vacation, but I felt like I was actually at home, which wasn’t something nice if one thought about it deeply, but that’s not the point here. I came out to see pretty lights, tents and decorations going up, and I was pleasantly surprised, because who doesn’t love a nice party? Especially when you could smell nice things cooking, and you think of the enjoyment in store for you if you attended. I wasn’t informed of any parties, and since I wasn’t a native here, I was as confused as a newborn mouse. I heard Rio shouting something to someone, and waited for him to finish with what he was doing. Soon, he walked up to me. “You’re finally up. I thought we’d have to send in a doctor.” He pulled me into a one armed hug from the side. “Yeah.” I friend as we pulled away, touching my belly. “I was really tired.” “You need as mu
Brielle’s POV. “No, no. It’s fine. I just want to be up for a while, actually.” I said, chuckling, and Rio shook his head. “Why? Aren’t you tired? Or do you need something?” Before I could answer, he continued. “Maybe I’ve been a bad host, but I’d like for you to tell me whatever it is that you might need, and it will be provided.” Well, that was odd. If I didn’t know better, I’d say that he saw me as the alpha of a powerful kingdom, and was trying to suck up to me. “No! You, everything you’ve done has been wonderful, believe me. I just like to stay up late sometimes.” He nodded. “So do I. Actually I stay up most nights, because sleep doesn’t come easy to me, so…” “I think I get it.” I said, walking in front of him, and the guards followed us closely. He lingered at the door of my assigned room before I chuckled slightly. “You can come in, we were having a conversation before I started coming here anyway.” I sighed as I settled down onto the bed, looking up. Who
