Mayeli stared at him like he had gone knots.
“You came for me? After sending that message. You have the nerve to show yourself to me?” she yelled. People were turning towards that direction, but she didn't care.
“I didn't send the message,” he said, raising his brow slightly. His blue eyes looked angry.
“Are you going to keep denying it?”
“Why are you so certain it's me?” He ran his hands through his lovely hair, letting out a frustrated sigh.
“Because only you and me fucken know about two years ago”.
“You said your baby was not the product of the affair, so why does it bother you so much? Besides, I'm a celebrity. People follow me around. Someone else might have seen us enter the hotel”.
“Please, don't give me that bullshit explanation. And I'm bothered because it fucken hurts to be threatened by you”.
“I didn't do it, Mayeli!” His voice was raised now, and she could tell he was getting angry, but she didn't care.
“Stop fucking denying it!”
“Fine. I did it”, he mumbled in a broken voice.
He stared at her one last time, before turning and opening his car door. His bodyguard appeared from wherever they had been lurking in the shadows. He closed Killian's door, entered the car, and drove off.
Mayeli stood alone in the parking lot, thinking of his words.
“Fine, I did it”.
Was he serious? He had uttered the words without an emotion on his face, but his voice had sounded broken.
Maybe he's just putting up an act for pity's sake, she concluded, getting into her car. He was such a horrible person.
A message notification flashed on her phone, and she froze when she saw it was from an unknown number.
Maybe you should start by telling your best friend who the father of your child is. She deserves to know. Do it tomorrow night at the party.
—unknown.
Mayeli gasped. Was Killian this cruel? She had provoked him with her question, and he had used this as a means to revenge?
How could he ask her to tell Diora? Diora knew about her past with Killian, but she didn't know Bryelle's father. No one knew aside from her and her Mom.
Killian was a heartless son-of-a-bitch! And she had no intention of following his damn orders.
She started her car, cursing, loudly. She was late for her meeting with the party decorator.
Nixen had wanted a large party, so they had used his friend's house instead, and there was still a lot of final decorations to do.
“Hi Mayeli, I thought you wouldn't make it”, Flora, the decorator said with a smile.
“I was caught up in traffic, and I lost track of time”, she lied.
“It's fine. Nixen ran us through what to do already. He asked me to tell you to meet him in the visitor's sitting room when you arrive”.
“Thanks”. That was so sweet of Nixen. He had loads of work, but he always managed to find time to help her sort her's.
“You're welcome ma'am”, the decorator beamed. It looked like a practised act.
“Where's the sitting room located?”
“Second floor”.
“Okay”.
When she got to the visitor's sitting room, she saw Nixen standing by one of the large floor-to-ceiling windows. He didn't reply when she called his name, until she went over, and wrapped her arms around his waist. He smelt heavenly.
“I didn't hear you come in”, he said, turning to face her. His fingers traced her jaw, sending shivers down her spine.
“I guess you were lost in thoughts. What were you thinking about?”
“You”, he teased.
She closed her eyes, as his lips landed on hers, draining out the anger she had been feeling. His lips worked urgently and hungrily, searching, and she kissed him with the same intensity.
She pulled away when his thumb rubbed circles over her taut nipples. It was the first time he was going this far. He hadn't asked her for sex in the past weeks, and she was glad. She wasn't sure she was ready yet.
“I'm sorry”, he mumbled, sadness filling his beautiful hazel eyes. They were a dark shade of brown now, from the intensity that burned within them.
“You don't have to be, we're a couple”.
“I promise to wait until you're ready. Take as much time as you need”.
“Thank you”.
She looked up, to see a shadow lurking behind the door. Her body froze with fear.
“What's wrong?” Nixen asked, cupping her chin.
“I think someone is watching us”.
“Stay here”, Nixen mumbled, placing a kiss on her forehead, before walking towards the door. His face showed no sign of fear.
Mayeli let out a low sigh, terrified to the core.
Nixen walked out of the door, and after a while he returned, looking intently at her.
“I think you're a bit exhausted, you should rest baby, let me take you home”.
“I know what I saw”. Why was he making her feel crazy?
“Of course you did, let's go now”. She caught the sarcasm in his voice, and it pissed her off, but she allowed him to pull her up, and lead he to his car.
He would send his driver to bring them her car to her house tomorrow morning.
When she got home, she had started to undress, when a message notification flashed on her screen and immediately another. She abandoned her undressing and picked up her phone.
I'm so sorry. I hate seeing you sad. I hope you have a good night.
—Killian.
“Gawd, this dude has got some nerves”, she voiced angrily. Though, she couldn't deny the warmth that was running through her and how fast her heart was racing.
She clicked on the other message that had come in.
Tomorrow night it is. Don't think about disobeying me.
—unknown.
She stared at the message scared and confused. What was Killian doing? Was he playing games with her? His first message was soothing and the second was threatening. What exactly were his plans?
Mayeli felt apprehensive as she packed her Audi in front of the party venue. Gosh, just how big was this house? She wondered. Everything about the house spoke affluence from the interior design to the fleet of cars packed in the garage.Mayeli checked her Rolex. She was thirty minutes late, and from the sound of voices and music emanating from the mansion, she was certain the party had started. She did this often, except when it was an important case in the courtroom. She always arrived at work or events thirty minutes late. It was her own way of taking control, making them wait. She felt a bit nervous though. Nixen was going to introduce her to his friends. It wasn't something she was scared about, but a part of her felt she would see Killian, though he had told her he wasn't going to be here today

Mayeli edged through the crowd in search of Killian. She had been asking herself several times why she was looking for him, but she couldn't find an answer. When she couldn't see him anywhere, she gave up. She stood in the shadows silently watching the party and sipping wine. She was starting to feel lightheaded from all the wine she had consumed. She felt the urge to pee and headed to find the restroom. For fuck sake, where would she find one in this large house, she wondered. She took the elevator and pressed the third floor, though she wasn't sure where that lead. Build least, she could escape from the noise of the party for a while. When the elevator door opened, she walked down the hallway stretched in front of her, looking for anything that looked like a restroom. Her feet felt wobbly, and she quickly gripped the nearest door handle for support. The door gave way, and she stumbled into a large room. The walls were painted a lovely shade of charcoal green. A large king-size bed w
Killian stared at Mayeli’s stubborn expression, not knowing what to do. She looked a bit scared by his words, but she maintained a defiant look. She had a face that reminded him of Becky G.She bit on her full, lower lips, and pouted stubbornly. “I hardly deserve a beating for using your toilet”, she pointed out.“Against my will”.“It's just a toilet”. She folded her arms and sat on his bed. “You look gorgeous in white and black though”.His eyes bulged at the socket. What did she just say?She stood up from the bed and walked to where he stood, planting her small frame in front of him. She had a coquettish smile on her face. Gosh! She was tempting him.“Maybe I can handle your anger, so bring it on”. He stared at her slightly apart, pulp, pink lips, and a sensation ran through him.He was certain it was the alcohol talking, but it didn't stop him from feeling the day he was feeling. Mayeli stared at Killian. How could he? How could he do that to Diora, while making out with her?He kept a nonchalant expression, showing no signs of guilt. “What did you do to her?”He looked at her with something close to anger and irritation. “I didn't do anything, Mayeli”.Truce looked at both of them.“Am I missing something here?” Truce asked.“I don't know, ask her?” Killian yelled.Truce turned to Mayeli. “What's wrong, Mayeli?”“Ask your friend”, she screamed, walking away. She saw Truce throw her a quizzical look, and then swiftly ask Killian what was happening. She waited for Killian to reply, but she heard nothing other than a banged door. She hissed and entered the elevator. So, he had made good his threats. She thought of reporting him to the authorities, but she had no proof yet, plus she didn't want the circumstances surrounding Mayeli's birth to go public. “Hey Tyse”, Nixen said casually, shaking hands with him.Mayeli stared at them, shocked. Tyse is a renowned multi-billionaire. Yeah, Nixen is, rich, but not up to Tyse, Truce, and Killian's level.“How're you doing bro”, Tyse beamed. There's a bright, genuine smile on his face, but Nixen's smile looks forced. Mayeli wondered why.“I'm good. It's a pleasant surprise to see you here”.“I brought Mayeli, but I'm on my way now”.Mayeli noticed Nixen's hands tighten around the bags he was holding. His smile evaporated.“Oh, I see”, Nixen mumbled, glancing at Mayeli.“I better get going”, Tyse said. He had probably noticed the change of expression.“I'll walk you to your car”, Mayeli said, following Tyse.“I think walking me to my car was a bad idea. Nixen didn't look happy about the fact that I brought you”, Tyse said, running his hands through his hair. Gosh, he was so handsome. “Mom, can Uncle Killian come with us?” Bryelle asked, giving Mayeli a baby face.“What?” “Can Uncle Killian come with us?” She repeated.Mayeli shared a look with her mom, speechless.
