Amara’s POV
“These boxes are damn heavy, did you put some dead bodies in them?” Miykal asked.
I rolled my eyes at her stupid question and focused back on removing the rest of my stuffs from the back of my beaten up old Toyota vehicle that I had managed to transport with me from New York to California for a fucking ridiculous amount of money that can definitely guarantee me a good time at an expensive spa.
Okay breathe, Amara. You’ve got this. You’re a woman of virtue, one who’s not supposed to curse out but a sophisticated one who takes things lightly and believes in one step at a time solution to problems.
I mean it, Amara, breathe. I mentally controlled myself.
“Say your mind Amara. I know you have a lot to say. Don’t keep it in, let it go” Miykal advised. She knew I was glaring at nothingness for unknown fucked up reasons.
“Stop cursing me out in your head, Mara” she advised using her nickname for me.
“I’m not cursing out at you, I’m just cursing out at my situation. I can’t believe I successfully brought this car into California at half the price that I got it” I spat out
“You should have left it in New York” She picked up one of the boxes and started walking into the building that we’ve both saved up to rent one of its apartments.
Her short brown hair outshined my shoulder length black hair. Even though we’ve been friends for years, we still find it difficult to pick out the similarities that we share.
“I don’t see a reason why I should have left this car in New York, it has been my Saviour for the past two years and I still don’t want to let it go yet, it’s my baby”
I corrected her, stopping her from going any further with insulting the one thing that permitted and allowed my ass not to make use of my other car called a legmosium. Which is another word for walking with my two tiny legs.
“Let me do this simple analysis for you concerning that deadbeat of a car” I rolled my eyes once more and glared at her.
“At least, open the door so we can go into the house. Just because we’re on the first floor of this apartment doesn’t give us the right to misuse such a blessing. People use the stairs too, you know”
She shakes her head, ignores my comment and goes on to open the door. She dropped the box close to the living area while I checked out the apartment.
Miykal is a second year student of the University of California, Los Angeles and also, fortunately enough for me, she’s my best friend as well. We grew up together in Trenton before her family moved to New York, where I later joined them for a duration of three months before moving out.
I’ve been taking an online business administration course for two years while working two different shifts at a restaurant in New York City as the cashier/ receptionist. Immediately I finished my course, an opportunity opened up in California. It was more of a way to make my life better and make things rosier for myself.
So I did the next thing I thought was smarter. Packed up my stuff as well as my savings and moved to California to join Miykal after applying for this new opportunity.
“Okay! Like I said about your car. Let’s liken it to a child. Let’s imagine I gave birth to a baby seven years ago and due to irreconcilable issues, I gave the baby up for adoption. He’s seven, right? Then this person who adopted the baby took care of it for two more years, now the baby is nine years old. The baby is no more a baby” I furrowed my eyebrow at her trying to get what she was saying exactly.
“You’re hopeless, Mara. The car is the baby. That car is old, that’s all I’m trying to tell you” She raised her hand and dropped it in surrender.
“You didn’t have to make up a whole comprehension passage just to tell me my car is old”
I went back outside to pick up the rest of my stuff from the booth of the car. Then, the problem started. I tried closing it back but the booth wouldn’t bulge, it was stuck.
“The baby is no more a baby, Mara. Let it go. Sell it”
“Or maybe I should eat it up. That might be a better idea, right?” I asked sarcastically, glaring at her.
I tried closing it once more but heck, my efforts were in vain.
“It’s about to start raining, Mara. You want me to bring a blanket for your baby. Don’t let the baby get drenched with rain” I could have cursed out at her but no, I wouldn’t. I’ll hold it all in as the right thing a sophisticated lady would do.
Fuck sophistication! I flipped her the middle finger.
“Come on. You know what the rain does to you baby girl. Let’s go in, we’ll get it sorted out by tomorrow”
She was right. After what had happened to me that night, I got scared anytime it rained, especially if it was at night and if there was thunder. The doctors said it was PTSD but I still didn’t let it hold me back from reaching my goals.
“Do you have a nylon or maybe a huge raincoat?” I asked.
“You want to wear it for your baby?” She asked, laughing out loud.
“I thought I was evil but you’re fucking evil and a bitch too” I moved away slowly from the car and joined her at the front of the building.
It’s been three years since things changed for me and I was just a seventeen years old girl then, but now, I’m a woman on becoming twenty one soonest and like Miykal said, I need to let go of the car.
“I’ll sell it after I get the job” I suddenly declared.
“You mean, you want to sell your baby, your child of over thirty years. Only God knows how old that car is” She mockingly replied
“I’m serious, Miykal. It’s bad enough. But I’m selling it only if I get the job”
“Talking about the job, when is the interview?”
“Monday morning” I replied
“You can do it. I don’t want to see this car anymore, so I’ll be giving you all of my good luck charms”
“Yeah! Give it to me baby, mama needs it” I said sending a kiss over to her.

I’m supposed to have an interview by eight this morning and it’s almost seven. I haven’t worn my “Mary skirt” and I'm not even ready.I don’t even know where my portfolio is. Achievement: A thing done successfully with effort, skill and courage. Amara’s POV “With deep regrets and sad heart, I solemnly announce the departure of my chance at ever getting a job at the Salvatore enterprises. I’m doomed Miykal” I cried out to my best friend, holding her tight, pretending there were real tears in my eyes.“What happened, Mara?” Miykal askedI had called her immediately after the interview to meet up and she told me to meet her at the school campus.“A lot happened. But still, I think I’ve failed woefully” I cried out once more.“Explain to me better, how did it happen?” She asked worriedly. Miykal knew just how much I’d put into coming all the way from New York to California to pursue this job. I’d left everything behind to make things better for myself but she also didn’t know the biggest reason why I made such a huge move was to see him one more time.Though I don’t regret my decision of seeing him again but I do regret my fucking decision of bringing that f
Nascent: The process of coming into existence and beginning to display signs of future potential.Amara’s POVMonday morning came in as a flash, it was as if I was in a flash novel, one that happened real quick but still had a fleshy happy ending. Ignoring his deadly comment, I walked into my office with my head down, sober, as if I just had a hangover.Derek or whatever my boss had called him scared the life out of me. I’m not scared of what he could do; probably kill me because I’m so sure my ghost will haunt his ass till the end of time.I walked up to my desk and started the work I was given. I made sure I arranged all of his schedule for the day properly and set an alarm on the new official phone to notify me once it is an hour to the specific event.&ld
Arrogate: take or claim something or something without justificationHenry’s povI knew I had hired the wrong person when Amara walked into my office the next morning to talk about what she said.“Talk about what exactly?” I thought she had come to apologize for saying such a thing.“Yes. I know you’re expecting me to apologize about it but no, I won’t. I’ll rather you apologize for walking out like that yesterday but no, you’re my boss and I’ll be damn stupid if I ask for your apology”“B
Redundant: not or no longer needed or useful; superfluous.Henry’s POV“Good morning Mr Salvatore” I raised my head to see my personal assistant walk into my office with a huge smile on her face and an elegant look. She’s dressed in a plain skirt and a top that matched the color of her skin. After dropping her off at her apartment during the weekend, she had promised to be of good behavior henceforth and never to mention anything about claiming me or something similar to that. She tried inviting me in but I refused. But after the event that took place yesterday afternoon, I doubt if she’ll stay true to her words. “Good morning Miss Amara. You look radiant today” I complimented“Thank you sir” she said blushing. “I came to give you the report of today’s executive meeting and also to inform you of your official visit to Lucas Anderson an hour from now” She submitted the report on my table.“Any other thing you have to report” I asked “None of much importance sir”“Are you sure becau
Reconciliation: a situation in which two people or groups of people become friendly again after they have arguedHenry’s POV “What’s the preparation going on with Sebastian’s wedding?” I asked Derek. It was Sunday morning and we were currently in his apartment just to catch up and have a few drinks before the Monday pressure set in. We had made this a tradition between us to meet at either of our houses just to talk about whatever we needed to talk about and solve problems that had to be solved. Sebastian couldn’t make it and it’s just I and Derek. I couldn’t confide in Derek about what had happened with my personal assistant ecause I know he’ll mock me till the end of time so I decided to shut up and fix things by myself. Though I feel a little bit bad about firing her but I don’t regret it.Such drama is something I don’t look forward to and I have had enough of her troubles, mistakes and.. I don’t want to think about the kiss.“Bride got changed from the other sister to the one he
Consolation; comfort (someone) at a time of grief or disappointment.Amara’s POV I had promised to be of good behavior for a week and a few days, I had managed to keep my promise and also hide my jealousy when some girls came asking for him. Few days back, I finally sold my car. Even though I cried before letting it go, I still did what I had to do. It’s been a month since I started working with Henry and after successfully collecting my first salary, I had managed to save a tiny portion of it. If I manage to save for six more months, I’ll be able to get a new car. I checked my wristwatch to see that it was a little past eight, a new month, new record broken. This is my first time being this late and it’s as a result of taking the bus and not my car. I had gotten late to the bus station and I had to wait for the second bus this morning. Someone walked into me as I entered the building and I almost cursed at the person. The thing is, he looked familiar so I swallowed my curse and ga
