Arrogate: take or claim something or something without justification
Henry’s pov
I knew I had hired the wrong person when Amara walked into my office the next morning to talk about what she said.
“Talk about what exactly?” I thought she had come to apologize for saying such a thing.
“Yes. I know you’re expecting me to apologize about it but no, I won’t. I’ll rather you apologize for walking out like that yesterday but no, you’re my boss and I’ll be damn stupid if I ask for your apology”
“But indirectly you’re asking me to apologize for walking out on you yesterday” I’m so damn unlucky.
I waited for a second, tried to remember what year I had hired this girl, the number of years she had known me by working with me to have the fucking effrontery to talk to me like this.
“No, I’m not asking you to apologize sir, that’s absolutely not what I’m saying. I’m just trying to get to talk to you about yesterday. I know what I said might have scared you off but I never meant for it to be that way. It’s just that I’m kinda attracted to you and I’m planning on showing it so you won't get to date any other person while you think no other person is interested in you. I don’t want to come off as a slut or maybe a leech, I’m just laying my claim”
By the time she stopped talking, I thought I was going to die from every of what she said, especially the last part where she mentioned the claim.
“What you’re saying right now is that you’re laying a claim on me, Henry Salvatore. Do I look like a bag or shoe to you?” She's annoying me so bad like I’ve never been annoyed before.
She’s frustrating and yet at the same time fascinating. This is not the first time a woman would ask me out but this is the first time a woman would tell me she’s laying a claim on me.
“Did I come off like that? Like you’re a property or something” She tucked her shiny black hair behind her ear and that made me give full attention to her facial look.
With her full pink lips that looked scrumptious enough, her pointed nose and her round brown eyes, she’s what you can actually tag as beautiful. Beautiful but not attractive and yes! She’s seriously in need of medical checkup.
“How old are you Amara?” I asked
“21 in a few months” She replied smiling.
“Good for you. Don’t you have better things to do than laying claim to a man you just met for like three times? You’re young, you’ll still meet more men and I don’t think it’s a good idea for you to go about laying claim on every man you meet” I advised
“I didn’t just meet you days ago or maybe three times like you’ve said” She replied seriously. “I know I may sound off but I’m just telling you just so you should know that you’re mine”
“Get out of my office, Amara”
“But sir…”
“Use the door” I screamed at her, making her jump out of her seat. “The next time you walk through my door or open your mouth to say such an annoying and disgusting thing, I would not hesitate to fire you. Mark my words, Amara '' I threatened for the second time since she started working.
She walked out of my office, murmuring under her breathe words that I couldn’t hear properly, not to talk of deciphering whatever she was saying.

Apart from other regular official duties, I had managed to avoid my mentally ill personal assistant for the rest of the week. I needed the peace of mind and I actually appreciated the non talk of her owing me or laying some stupid claims on me.
Derek has invited me to a bar tonight to discuss something he called important and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s nothing of importance but rather a medium to set me up with one of his girls.
I don’t believe in things like this. I was brought up in a home where we were trained to always wait for our soulmate and stay pure till our wedding night. It might sound too traditional for the type of century I’m in but it’s one of the things my parents taught me before they died and I've promised to hold all their lessons to heart.
“Why am I here, Derek?”
“I come with good tidings, I mean I have some really great news” he said and I wondered what the good news was.
“I think I have confusing news, tell me yours first” I asked.
“The first one is this, since you’ve been so busy with work like Sebastian and refused to live life a little, you missed out the fact that your former best friend, Lucas, came back last week!”
What! For seven years, he disappeared and now he’s back. Just like that!
Derek, Sebastian, and Lucas have been my childhood friends since age 11. I met them after moving to California with my parents. Lucas was not that friendly but he still befriended me after Derek introduced us.
Surprisingly, Derek just opted one day and left home immediately he turned 18 and we all tried looking for him, including his parents, without knowing he didn’t want to be found.
“Don’t tell me you’re joking brother?” I furrowed my eyebrow in confusion, hoping he was just joking about it.
“I’m serious, Henry. He came back last week looking all lost and dead, I can’t say. He looks so different from the Lucas that we’ve always known. He looked so lost in one word”
“What the hell happened to the guy? Where has he been? Where did he go?” I have thousands of questions to ask, yet, none seems right or good enough to ask someone who has disappeared for seven years.
“We’ll get to know at his welcome party next weekend. It’s just weird seeing that guy again after so many years” He said
“I’ll try contacting him tomorrow,” He nodded.
“Your weird news?”
“Nothing to worry about, I’ll tell you later”
“If you say so, care for some drink, honey?”
Derek has been fond of calling me that since we met. He decided I was the girly version of the rest of them since I was less tough unlike him, less secretive, unlike Sebastian and less hot tempered unlike Lucas.
“No I’m good. Thanks” I replied waving off the waiter in front of us.
I stood up from our VIP section to put my hands on the railings separating us from the full party going on down there.
One minute later, my eye caught something or should I say someone heading up towards the VIP section.
“Fuck me already!”
“What’s going on?” Derek asked. I suddenly realized he was right beside me and also looking at the same girls that I was looking at.
“They’re hot! You’ve got a great taste in girls Buddy” He said, hitting me lightly on the shoulder.
“They are off limits Derek, don’t even look at them twice” I turned ready to go back to our table when Derek whistled at them.
“What the fuck are you doing?” I asked angrily
“Bringing them over to ours. I love disobeying you” He replied, giving me one of his unpopular evil smirks.
“Hi! I’m Derek” he said introducing himself a few minutes after they joined us.
“I’m Miykal and this is Amara” the other girl who is obviously Miykal said.
“Amara? Your personal assistant?” Derek asked, pointing at the both of us at intervals. I didn’t wait for him to continue before deciding to take actions.
“I’m leaving, Derek. I have some work to do” I stood up ready to take my leave when the little devil also stood up.
“I’m also not enjoying the night anymore so I think I’ll go as well. Would you mind dropping me off sir?”
I glared at her hoping she'd give up but she just took her bag and followed me outside the club, provoking me more and more.

Amara’s POV
“That’s my boss over there” I told Miykal upon sighting him as we walked over to the vip section of the bar.
Miykal had insisted we go out tonight much to my dismay and I had tried persuading her to go alone but she insisted I followed.
“The same one you like?” rhetorically, she asked.
“One and only”
“Do you think we should go there and meet him?”
We were about discussing the answers to that question when Derek whistles at us to join. I guess he didn’t recognize me because of the clothes and the heavy makeup.
“Do you want to go? This might be your chance at getting to know him better”
“Or maybe seduce him to get his attention”
“You’re scaring me right now. This is your first time of liking a guy and yet you’re being so possessive and desperate”
“I don’t like taking things slow girl. They’re are too many ants around that guy.” She gestured for me to move towards them.
“Your job is on the line, girl”
“He ain’t that heartless, trust me” I replied confidently.
Few minutes later, we walked slowly towards the parking lot and he suddenly stopped and turned.
“Why are you still following me?” He barked
“I’m sorry if I came off like an insane girl the other day but I’m really sorry” I apologized.
“Your parents really did a great job with training you up to leech on every guy you meet, right?”
“They didn’t stay alive that long to teach me about boys” I replied sadly, hurt by his words.
That calmed him down a bit. “I’m so sorry I said that. I’m just not comfortable with this claim of a thing” He confessed.
“It’s okay. I’m used to their absence but their spirit might bless you if you give their daughter a ride home tonight” The side of his lip twitched.
“Okay, come on let’s go” I happily jumped into the car, happy that I’d successfully went back to his good side and obviously on the first stage of the CEO’s seduction.

Redundant: not or no longer needed or useful; superfluous.Henry’s POV“Good morning Mr Salvatore” I raised my head to see my personal assistant walk into my office with a huge smile on her face and an elegant look. She’s dressed in a plain skirt and a top that matched the color of her skin. After dropping her off at her apartment during the weekend, she had promised to be of good behavior henceforth and never to mention anything about claiming me or something similar to that. She tried inviting me in but I refused. But after the event that took place yesterday afternoon, I doubt if she’ll stay true to her words. “Good morning Miss Amara. You look radiant today” I complimented“Thank you sir” she said blushing. “I came to give you the report of today’s executive meeting and also to inform you of your official visit to Lucas Anderson an hour from now” She submitted the report on my table.“Any other thing you have to report” I asked “None of much importance sir”“Are you sure becau
Reconciliation: a situation in which two people or groups of people become friendly again after they have arguedHenry’s POV “What’s the preparation going on with Sebastian’s wedding?” I asked Derek. It was Sunday morning and we were currently in his apartment just to catch up and have a few drinks before the Monday pressure set in. We had made this a tradition between us to meet at either of our houses just to talk about whatever we needed to talk about and solve problems that had to be solved. Sebastian couldn’t make it and it’s just I and Derek. I couldn’t confide in Derek about what had happened with my personal assistant ecause I know he’ll mock me till the end of time so I decided to shut up and fix things by myself. Though I feel a little bit bad about firing her but I don’t regret it.Such drama is something I don’t look forward to and I have had enough of her troubles, mistakes and.. I don’t want to think about the kiss.“Bride got changed from the other sister to the one he
Consolation; comfort (someone) at a time of grief or disappointment.Amara’s POV I had promised to be of good behavior for a week and a few days, I had managed to keep my promise and also hide my jealousy when some girls came asking for him. Few days back, I finally sold my car. Even though I cried before letting it go, I still did what I had to do. It’s been a month since I started working with Henry and after successfully collecting my first salary, I had managed to save a tiny portion of it. If I manage to save for six more months, I’ll be able to get a new car. I checked my wristwatch to see that it was a little past eight, a new month, new record broken. This is my first time being this late and it’s as a result of taking the bus and not my car. I had gotten late to the bus station and I had to wait for the second bus this morning. Someone walked into me as I entered the building and I almost cursed at the person. The thing is, he looked familiar so I swallowed my curse and ga
Trust: firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.Amara’s POV ”AREyou okay now?” Henry, Aka, my boss asked, still holding me inside my office, on the floor of my office actually.I had stopped crying a few minutes back and I’d been relieving myself with his smell. He smelled so masculine, so fresh, so divine and heavenly that I couldn’t stop myself from burying my nose in the crook of his neck to get more and probably drown myself with it. “Are you okay?” I flipped my eyes open at his question and slowly removed my nose from his neck and my body from his arms. I couldn’t look him in the face as my arms were still locked around his neck. If I lift up my eyes to look at him, my face would be just a few inches from his, a damn fucking temptation it’ll be to kiss him badly. “Look at me, Amara” He asked I shook my head trying not to let him see my swollen eyes and hiding my dirty past from him. If I don’t see those seducing bright and beautiful eyes of
