Nascent: The process of coming into existence and beginning to display signs of future potential.
Amara’s POV
Monday morning came in as a flash, it was as if I was in a flash novel, one that happened real quick but still had a fleshy happy ending. I grinned throughout the weekend, excited to start working with him and also be right beside him for hours each and everyday.
Miykal had managed to follow me to the stores to get some proper official clothes with the rest of the money that I had with me.
She had apologized repeatedly to me because she wasn’t around that night and she feared something had happened that I didn’t talk to her about but I insisted and assured her that everything was fine and that nothing really happened just so she could stop worrying.
“Good morning, I’m Amara Collins, newly employed and I was informed to resume today” I told the lady at the reception, smiling politely as much as possible.
“Okay! Welcome Miss Amara, here’s your tag. All you have to do now is take the elevator to the fifth floor, Mrs Finn is waiting for you and good luck on your first day”
I could remember Mrs Finn. She had been the one to accompany me to the CEO for the interview.
“Thank you and have a good day too” I collected the tag from her, admired it for a while before putting it around my neck.
I pressed the button of the elevator and waited for it to open when a big man in a black suit came to stand beside me, also waiting for an elevator. I looked up to see him staring right at me. He was handsome but not as good looking as Henry.
“You’re short” He suddenly pronounced.
“Did you come from a town where only giants exist?” I asked, firing back at his stupidity.
“Well, I’ll let you go because this is the first time I’m seeing you around here”
“As if you go about with a virtual register that tells you the name of the people who work here” I used my hand to make a quote in the air.
“People don’t talk back at me like you just did and this should be the last time, you’ll ever talk to me like that….” I waved off the finger he was pointing to my face.
“Keep your bad manners in your pocket, giant. If you want people to talk to you with respect then do the same as well, ‘Mr God knows where this one came from” The elevator suddenly opened and I ran into it.
I quickly pressed the button so it could close and not give the big bulky a chance at entering it. Which is something I successfully did.
“Hello, Miss Amara, it’s so nice to see you again. The receptionist informed me of your arrival, don’t be so surprised I came here to welcome you” Mrs Finn said immediately the elevator stopped and opened at the fifth floor.
“Thank you so much, Mrs Finn. It’s so nice seeing you again” I replied with a smile as well.
“Let me quickly take you to your office and run you through some of the tasks as well as duties that you will be performing” She said and gestured to me to follow her.
We suddenly stopped in front of an office and she opened the door with a key she later passed to me.
“This is your office, Miss Amara” The Office was huge enough to house two staffs. A large table was placed at a corner with a computer and a phone box on the table. The wall was painted light yellow and another door labeled toilet can be found at another corner of the room.
“If there’s anything you’ll love to change about it, you can inform me. I’ll pass it along to the right administration and they’ll fix it”
“No, it’s perfect. Thank you”
She walked over to the working table.
“Here’s a computer and a phone to your official use. You can only use the phone for official purposes and nothing personal. Also, I believe the brief had been sent to you last week concerning your payment”
“Yes, it’s a good amount”
I didn’t want to say huge so as to avoid appearing cheap to the old lady.
“That’s good. You’re to directly answer to the CEO and no other person unless the CEO directs you to do so. His office is next door by the way and your door should be opened twenty four-seven to his visitors.
Henry Salvatore is his name and he’s the best person you can ever work with. I’ll strongly advise you not to take his silence for granted, it means hell sometimes, okay?” I nodded.
“Are you ready to meet your boss? He’ll give you every other necessary information and if you’re confused about anything, come look for me, I’ll help you out. Come on, let’s go”
We walked out of the office towards the next office. She knocked briefly on the door.
“Come in” A husky voice instructed and we walked in.
As Henry looked up from the file in front of him, I almost stopped breathing at his breathtaking handsomeness. His light pink lips are a perfect match to his bright blue eyes. He’s a sight to behold.
“Good morning Mr Salvatore” Mrs Finn greeted
“Good morning Mrs Finn. It’s good to see you back this week. Hope you’re all better now?”
“I’m percent, thank you Mr Salvatore. This is Miss Amara Collins” She said pointing to me.
“Your new personal assistant. I already took her to her office and showed her some of the things she’ll be working with. I decided to bring her here so you could meet her officially” She said
“Thank you Mrs Finn. You can go back to your office now, I’ll see to the rest” Mrs Finn thanked him and left the office.
I couldn’t look up to meet his eyes, not even when he instructed me to have a seat.
“Straight to business, Amara. Here’s my schedule for the day, you can enter it into your day planner and inform me of every event an hour to the allotted time. Okay? You don’t have to get me coffee or lunch or whatever. I’m not crippled so I can do it by myself. The only time you’ll help me choose an outfit is when I have an official event and that will be you picking it from the designer, are you still with me?” He asked.
I nodded and smiled widely at him. He furrowed his eye brow confused at why I had to smile that much.
“That’s perfect, closing time is five pm for you. No weekends work, just weekdays. There might be exceptions sometimes…” I cut him off before he could continue.
“Can you please talk slowly? I’m not grabbing anything you’re saying”
He looked intensely at me as if he was expecting me to say something more.
“Where’s the ‘sir’ that you’re supposed to put at the back of every words you say to me”
“Oh my God! I’m so sorry sir. It’s like I haven’t gotten fully deep into this whole official work thing. It’s like still a daydream to me. I’m so sorry sir” I apologized because of my stupidity.
“That’s okay but don’t let it repeat itself. Next time bring in a notepad and a pen to take down everything I say. So, get on with my schedule. I’ll see you later” he dismissed me.
“Thank you Mr Salvatore” he looked up surprisingly.
“You’re welcome, Miss Amara even though this is the second time you’ll be saying something like this after I’ve done nothing” he turned back to the file as if he wasn’t expecting me to say more.
As I opened the door to leave, a man was right behind it, trying to knock and when our eyes met, I almost gasped out loud in surprise. It was the same big man I had met in front of the elevator.
“Miss Amara, Kindly let the man in. Let’s say that’s your first duty as my personal assistant” Henry informed me.
“She’s your personal assistant?” The man asked
“Yes Derek, what else is she supposed to be?” Henry asked.
“A dead woman” Derek mouthed to me, glaring hard as if he’ll be the one to make me a dead woman.

Mine: it is used to refer to a thing or things belonging to or associated with the speaker.Amara’s POVI gently passed his side, behaving as if he was totally invisible. Ignoring his deadly comment, I walked into my office with my head down, sober, as if I just had a hangover.Derek or whatever my boss had called him scared the life out of me. I’m not scared of what he could do; probably kill me because I’m so sure my ghost will haunt his ass till the end of time.I walked up to my desk and started the work I was given. I made sure I arranged all of his schedule for the day properly and set an alarm on the new official phone to notify me once it is an hour to the specific event.&ld
Arrogate: take or claim something or something without justificationHenry’s povI knew I had hired the wrong person when Amara walked into my office the next morning to talk about what she said.“Talk about what exactly?” I thought she had come to apologize for saying such a thing.“Yes. I know you’re expecting me to apologize about it but no, I won’t. I’ll rather you apologize for walking out like that yesterday but no, you’re my boss and I’ll be damn stupid if I ask for your apology”“B
Redundant: not or no longer needed or useful; superfluous.Henry’s POV“Good morning Mr Salvatore” I raised my head to see my personal assistant walk into my office with a huge smile on her face and an elegant look. She’s dressed in a plain skirt and a top that matched the color of her skin. After dropping her off at her apartment during the weekend, she had promised to be of good behavior henceforth and never to mention anything about claiming me or something similar to that. She tried inviting me in but I refused. But after the event that took place yesterday afternoon, I doubt if she’ll stay true to her words. “Good morning Miss Amara. You look radiant today” I complimented“Thank you sir” she said blushing. “I came to give you the report of today’s executive meeting and also to inform you of your official visit to Lucas Anderson an hour from now” She submitted the report on my table.“Any other thing you have to report” I asked “None of much importance sir”“Are you sure becau
Reconciliation: a situation in which two people or groups of people become friendly again after they have arguedHenry’s POV “What’s the preparation going on with Sebastian’s wedding?” I asked Derek. It was Sunday morning and we were currently in his apartment just to catch up and have a few drinks before the Monday pressure set in. We had made this a tradition between us to meet at either of our houses just to talk about whatever we needed to talk about and solve problems that had to be solved. Sebastian couldn’t make it and it’s just I and Derek. I couldn’t confide in Derek about what had happened with my personal assistant ecause I know he’ll mock me till the end of time so I decided to shut up and fix things by myself. Though I feel a little bit bad about firing her but I don’t regret it.Such drama is something I don’t look forward to and I have had enough of her troubles, mistakes and.. I don’t want to think about the kiss.“Bride got changed from the other sister to the one he
Consolation; comfort (someone) at a time of grief or disappointment.Amara’s POV I had promised to be of good behavior for a week and a few days, I had managed to keep my promise and also hide my jealousy when some girls came asking for him. Few days back, I finally sold my car. Even though I cried before letting it go, I still did what I had to do. It’s been a month since I started working with Henry and after successfully collecting my first salary, I had managed to save a tiny portion of it. If I manage to save for six more months, I’ll be able to get a new car. I checked my wristwatch to see that it was a little past eight, a new month, new record broken. This is my first time being this late and it’s as a result of taking the bus and not my car. I had gotten late to the bus station and I had to wait for the second bus this morning. Someone walked into me as I entered the building and I almost cursed at the person. The thing is, he looked familiar so I swallowed my curse and ga
Trust: firm belief in the reliability, truth, or ability of someone or something.Amara’s POV ”AREyou okay now?” Henry, Aka, my boss asked, still holding me inside my office, on the floor of my office actually.I had stopped crying a few minutes back and I’d been relieving myself with his smell. He smelled so masculine, so fresh, so divine and heavenly that I couldn’t stop myself from burying my nose in the crook of his neck to get more and probably drown myself with it. “Are you okay?” I flipped my eyes open at his question and slowly removed my nose from his neck and my body from his arms. I couldn’t look him in the face as my arms were still locked around his neck. If I lift up my eyes to look at him, my face would be just a few inches from his, a damn fucking temptation it’ll be to kiss him badly. “Look at me, Amara” He asked I shook my head trying not to let him see my swollen eyes and hiding my dirty past from him. If I don’t see those seducing bright and beautiful eyes of
