He was going to stop suffering. He was going to stop denying himself the one thing or person he needed the most, stop denying himself happiness. He was finally free.

"You've found your mate," Dimitri said again then he closed his eyes and leaned back in his chair.

"She's sick, Dimitri," the voice on the other side of the line said, "She's dying."

Dimitri sat upright suddenly. She was dying. Did that mean that all his sacrifices were for nothing? That he had been just one big fool?

She was dying...

  • The CEO’s Human Mate   Chapter One

“Willow!”I shook as I heard my name being shouted. Of course it was my boss. Of course the intercom was right there, but the odious man chose to scream like we were in some kind of medieval horror movie. I sighed and walked to his office, making sure to make my expression neutral.I had been working here for five months and I was contemplating leaving… The pay was extremely good, but from the first day this man hired me, he had been nothing but a dickhead to me. I was sincerely tired and I didn’t know how much longer I was going to cope in this aggressive environment.“You called, sir?” I said, with the most professional tone I could muster.“What the hell is t

  • The CEO’s Human Mate   Chapter Two

6 am.I was standing in my boss’s office, shivering a little. It was one of those overly chilly fall mornings and it didn’t help that my boss had cranked up the AC to the coldest. If that wasn’t confirmation that this man was weird, I didn’t know what was.I stared at him as he worked, ignoring my presence. Why did he command me to come to his office at 6 am when he was just going to keep me standing and staring at him while he did whatever he was doing on his computer? As if he had read my thoughts, Dimitri looked up at me. Staring into this man’s eyes was always a heady experience for me. No matter how he treated me, I couldn’t deny that he had a weird appeal. I fought the urge to look away as he scrutinized me. He stared at

  • The CEO’s Human Mate   Chapter Three

Three days later. The atmosphere with my boss had been weird for the past three days. He would not look me in my eyes and it had been a while since I had heard him scream my name. It was weird. I mean, I was glad that he wasn’t being as overbearing anymore. But for some reason, I knew that it was not going to last long. And I was right. The following week, Dimitri Rustanov was back to his default settings. The asshole tendencies, the screaming, the making me feel like I needed to quit this job but it was my entire livelihood. I closed my eyes as he called me into his office, dreading whatever he was going to say.I stood from my desk and walked in, making sure to keep my pace normal because I knew he was

  • The CEO’s Human Mate   Chapter Four

I had been sitting in my car for twenty minutes. My hands were shaking so much that even opening the car door to get in and find refuge had been a huge struggle. My heart was beating so fast. The events were a blur. In fact, me standing up and hightailing the fuck out of that place was so blurry. I had acted on pure instinct when I woke up and ran out of the house. I didn’t even think I had locked Dimitri’s front door. But if I was being honest, that was the last thing on my mind. He had all the top security in the world. He was going to be fine. The person who wasn’t going to be fine here was me. I was still traumatized and I knew it was more likely that I would call an Uber because my hands were still shaking so badly.Calling an Uber would imply that I would have to come back here and with how my heart jumped at that thought, I knew that was not a possibility. I kept on looking up scared that the wolf (or whatever that creature was) was goin

  • The CEO’s Human Mate   Chapter Five

Dimitri’s POV Willow left. But not before I saw the stubborn tears that had finally escaped. I sighed and closed my eyes. I hated what I was becoming. I hated how callous and unfeeling I was being. I hated that I had to hurt my own mate because of some stupid rule that my ancestors had created. I sighed and closed my eyes, so weak all of a sudden. All of this was aping all of my energy. Resisting Willow… fighting my body’s urge to mate with her. I was fighting against every instinct that had been keeping me alive for this long. I was going against my wolf. He didn’t care that I was doing all of what I was for the greater good of everyone. All he wanted was his mate. And I was the one thing standing between him and her. I went behind my desk and sat. When Willow had barged into my office, I had been tempted to go to her and just take her sweet scent in and fuck the consequences. I wanted to hold her. I scoffed bitterly. I had never held my mat
