Chapter 1

Sienna’s POV

“What do you mean by let’s get divorced? What about our baby?” I subconsciously rubbed my tummy, looking so perplexed.

I couldn’t believe my ears. Why would Lucas suddenly propose a divorce when I was finally pregnant after our two years of marriage?

“Can’t you just get it, Sienna?” Lucas ran his finger into his hair, pacing around the room, looking so frustrated.

And of course, I couldn’t get it. I couldn’t understand what was going on.

I knew Lucas only had his eyes on someone else, but she had gotten married to someone else who was his uncle. Lucas begged me to marry him, promising me he would love me and show the whole world I was his wife.

Our marriage of two years had been going perfectly well, but not until a few days ago. Lucas had been coming back home late. He had been receiving some strange calls, but I didn’t think much about them. I thought it was just business, but now it doesn’t look that way anymore.

Is Lucas seeing someone?

That can’t be true. I love Lucas, and he knows that. He is my world, my everything. I gave everything up for him—my life, my family, my career.

When my grandfather insisted that I shouldn’t marry him, I went against the old man's order even on his deathbed. Is grandfather finally getting his revenge on me from heaven? There is no way Lucas will be seeing another lady.

I moved close to him with so many questions lingering in my heart.

"Lucas, please, think about my baby. I'm a few weeks gone, and I don’t want to give birth to a baby without a father,” I said, reminding him in my softest voice.

“How can I tell my child that his father divorced me after I was pregnant with him?” The tears I had been sending back rolled down my cheek instantly.

I just can’t think of my life without Lucas. I saw him in every single picture of my life, and I don’t want a child without a father either.

I watched him inhale sharply, and he looked like he was coming back to his right senses. He grabbed the divorce papers on the table and stormed out.

I heaved a sigh of relief, and I crumbled on the nearest couch, wiping my tears. Finally, I was able to end the divorce, but why did he want that?

I mean, Lucas loves me, and he always tells me that he does. Why a sudden divorce? He was happy when I told him I was carrying his heir. Why would you suddenly want to divorce me?

A thought suddenly crossed my mind. I got on my feet and went after Lucas. I knew I had to confront him directly and ask him what the reason was.

“Lucas,” I called the moment I reached the luxurious living room, but surprisingly, I found the living room empty. I mean the whole house, there was no sign of Lucas anywhere.

I suddenly looked out of the window, and there I saw his car driving out of our compound.

My brows knitted together in confusion. I thought he had only left the room to have some privacy and cool his head, but he left the entire house.

Where is he heading to?

I picked up my purse and exited the house in a hurry, going after my husband.

I took a cab and asked the chauffeur to follow Lucas’s car, but my brows snapped together when Lucas finally pulled in front of a house.

It was his uncle’s house.

Did he come to see his uncle?

But his uncle, Uncle Max, was on a business trip. Lucas had told me that just yesterday. At the moment there is only one person in the house, and that’s his uncle’s wife, Lucas’s first love, Lisa.

I watched Lucas open the door and walk in as if it wasn’t his first time. My brows furrowed in confusion, and I found myself moving closer to the door.

“Don’t tell me-“

“There is no way that would be happening.” I instantly ignored the crazy thought coming to me.

I mean, Lisa is married. There is no way she will be cheating on Uncle Max with Lucas.

“His uncle is probably back, and he came to see him for an urgent business talk,” I assured myself.

I turned to head home, but just as I did, I was stopped by the voices ringing vividly from the house.

“I came here to relax my head.” I heard Lucas's voice, and he seemed to be slumped on a sofa beside someone.

“Why? Your smelly wife pissed you off again.” I heard a lady's voice accompanied by laughs, and I froze instantly at the same spot.

“I told you to divorce her.”

“When are you planning to divorce her? I mean, you promised to divorce her and marry me.” The voice added

I was shocked to the core. I was completely dumbfounded.

My whole body trembled not because of anything but because I knew the voice had only belonged to one person, Lisa, his uncle’s wife, and my college best friend.

When did they start seeing again?

The two were seeing? Lucas promised her to divorce me and marry her?

I wished it was all dreams. I wished it was all my stupid hallucinations, but it wasn’t. I’m damn sure that I was hearing right at the moment.

I knew Lucas had always cared for one girl when we were in college, and that was Lisa, my best friend. Meanwhile, I had always crushed on him but kept it to myself.

Unfortunately for Lucas, Lisa left him and vanished into thin air. She showed up after a year, but it turned out that she married his uncle for his money.

Lucas was furious, and that was part of the reason he strived so hard to succeed. He became extraordinarily successful, but Lisa was no longer his. We met again at the school reunion, and I ended up confessing my feelings to him. He told me he knew about it from the start. I was embarrassed, but instead, Lucas begged me to marry him, promising to love me more than he loved the heartless Lisa.

My family was against me marrying him. They wanted me for someone else, but I went against their order. Right now, I didn’t want to believe the fact that Lucas crawled back into Lisa’s arms.

“I can’t divorce her now. You know she is carrying my child.” I heard Lucas sigh, and he seemed to sit up straight.

“But you told me you had always hated her. You married her only to get me jealous.” I heard Lisa groan.

A tear instantly streamed down my cheek.

I was only a substitute bride? Lucas was lying to me all along? He had only married me to get Lisa jealous?

I felt my heart ripping into pieces.

My whole world was crumbling in front of me.

I took my feet and took a turn. I didn’t want to hear more. No doubt Lisa was the reason he asked me to sign the divorce papers. Lisa was the reason he changed and stopped loving me. Wait, he never even loved me!

The two were tricking both me and Uncle Max.

“Miss, you haven’t paid me. Aren’t you going back?” I heard the chauffeur's voice, but my head couldn’t process what he was saying. At that moment, the whole world was spinning in front of me.

“Miss, you haven’t paid me.” I heard the chauffeur's voice again. He wanted nothing but his payment. No one cared about what I felt, not Lucas, not even Lisa.

I dug my hand into my bag and gave him whatever I pulled out. I just wanted him off my back.

My head couldn’t handle what was going on with me. My tears had covered most of my vision, and I only kept on walking dejectedly on the street without a destination.

Suddenly, a loud horn blared behind me, jolting me out of my thoughts. Subconsciously, I turned to see what was happening. My heart raced as I saw a car speeding towards me, its headlights glaring like the eyes of a predator. Before I could even process what was happening, the car struck me with a force that sent me sprawling to the ground.

Pain shot through my body as I hit the pavement. I tried to move, but my legs felt heavy and unresponsive. A strange wetness spread between my thighs and a cold dread settled in my stomach. I glanced down and saw the dark, crimson stain spreading across my clothes.

Blood. It was my blood!

Panic surged through me, my breaths coming in short, ragged gasps. The world around me blurred as tears filled my eyes.

“My baby.” I stuttered. That was the only thing I could think of at the moment.

“Someone should call the ambulance!” That was the last thing I heard before passing out.
