Chapter 10

Author: Tranquil Phoenix
"What did you just say?"

Tristan’s piercing, hawk-like gaze shifted, cold and detached, as it locked onto Lisa.

"I... I didn’t say anything. I just missed you, so I came to see you."

Realizing her slip-up, she quickly took a step back and unbuttoned her coat, revealing the maid outfit underneath.

"Tristan, my new outfit just arrived. Do you like it?" she purred, her hand resting on his firm chest as she traced teasing circles.

But Tristan only glared at her coldly. "Get out."

"What’s wrong? Weren’t you just saying how much you liked this before?"

Lisa pressed herself against him, her hands moving with practiced ease, but Tristan remained unmoved. His expression stayed indifferent as he frowned and pulled her off him.

"I need to go to the police station. Don’t come looking for me again unless it’s absolutely necessary."

Pushing her aside, he got into his car and sped off.

At the police station, Tristan stormed in, his initial anger fueling demands to file complaints.

Furious, Tristan stormed into the surveillance room and immediately pulled up the footage from the day the painting arrived. The video clearly showed Nicole cutting the painting, removing her portion, then carefully rewrapping it and placing it back in its original spot. The moment he saw the footage, Tristan’s voice trembled with disbelief. "No... no, this can’t be. Nicky wouldn’t do something like this." A housekeeper nearby quickly tried to console him. "Maybe Mrs. Ford didn’t like the painting? Perhaps she thought it made her look bad?" "Yes... yes, that must be it," Tristan muttered, grasping at the excuse. "When she comes back, we’ll have a new one painted, something even better." But where was she now? He stood up and stumbled back to their bedroom, only to find that even the bed was gone. "Where’s the bed? Where’s our bed?" "Sir, Mrs. Ford asked us to move it downstairs," the housekeeper replied, lowering her head. Something about the situation didn’t feel rig

"What?" Tristan frowned, confused. "Cancel? What are you talking about? Is your hotel trying to mess with me? How dare you cancel my reservation for the banquet!" "Not at all, Mr. Ford, please don’t be upset. It’s just that Mrs. Ford came by a few days ago and requested to cancel the event. I was concerned you might not be aware, so I called to confirm." "You’re saying Nicky went to your hotel?" "Yes, she personally canceled the banquet you had reserved." Tristan opened his mouth to respond, but no words came out. Every detail, every piece of evidence, was telling him the same thing—Nicole truly wanted to leave him. But why? Why would she do this? They always had such a good relationship! His heartbeat quickened, and a dark thought crept into his mind. Had Nicole found out? Did she know about him and Lisa? But that was impossible! He had hidden it so well—everyone had kept it a secret. There was no way Nicole could have discovered the truth. And it wasn’t like

Lisa said softly, “She said she hated you.” “What?” Tristan froze, a wave of despair washing over him. She hated him? So, she had known all along about what happened between him and Lisa! “And then?” Tristan stared intently at the woman before him, desperate to hear more from her. “That’s all!” Lisa shook her head. Nicole hadn’t said anything else before she died! “That’s impossible. She couldn’t have left with just that one sentence! What else did she tell you?” Tristan questioned Lisa almost manically, his grip tightening. Tears streamed down Lisa’s face as she sobbed, “That’s really all she said!” “Take her back for questioning!” Tristan slowly raised his gaze, his expression blank as he looked at Lisa. “What?” Lisa stared at Tristan in disbelief. “What are you saying, Tristan? Nicole’s death has nothing to do with me! I didn’t push her!” “Whether you pushed her or not, the police will find out. If you’re innocent, they’ll release you.” The police grabbed Lisa.

It felt as if an invisible hand gripped Tristan’s heart tightly, squeezing it before letting go. The pain was excruciating, tearing him apart. Tristan broke down in sobs. “Nicky, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I shouldn’t have done it! It’s all my fault!” He thought of his liver—it was Nicole who had donated it to him. They had been together for so many years. No one in the world loved him more than Nicole did. And what about him? What had he done? He had hurt her over and over again, pushing her to her death with his own hands. When night fell, the rescue team returned. Upon seeing him, they shook their heads one by one. “Mr. Ford, I’m sorry. We didn’t find Mrs. Ford’s body.” “Mr. Ford, if I may speak frankly, with the river currents so strong, Mrs. Ford’s chances of survival are slim. As for her body, it’s likely been swept far away by now. Continuing the search like this isn’t practical.” Tristan stared coldly at the rescue team before him and let out a bitter laugh. “I

As expected, the woman couldn’t resist the temptation of money and quickly sent a tip to Tristan. Though Tristan had been deceived multiple times before, the fact that Nicole’s body was never recovered kept him clinging to the hope that she might still be alive. This time, someone had even sent in a blurry photo of a figure seen from behind.Tristan wasted no time and flew straight to Merriton, his nerves on edge at the thought of seeing her again. He couldn’t shake his fears—what if she refused to forgive him? What if she refused to come home with him? He had already made up his mind: if Nicole didn’t forgive him, he wouldn’t return either. He would stay as long as it took, begging for her forgiveness. But when he arrived, the café had a new owner, and the previous one was nowhere to be found. He questioned everyone in the café, showing them the photo. However, no one could confirm if the woman in the picture was Nicole. The Nicole in the photo had long hair, a fair complex

As the first rays of morning sunlight rose, Tristan remained kneeling on the bridge. His stiff, frozen body finally began to regain some feeling. His assistant, seeing him in this state, hesitated before speaking. “Mr. Ford, please don’t do this to yourself.” “Is she back? Did Nicky come back?” Tristan looked up at him, his eyes filled with desperate hope. “No, Mr. Ford. Please, stop this. You’ve been running back and forth, not eating or drinking, and now you’ve knelt here all night. If this continues, your body won’t hold up.” “I’m fine. As long as I can find Nicky, nothing else matters.” Knowing he couldn’t change Tristan’s mind, the assistant reluctantly added, “While you were away, Miss Evans was released from the police station. She claimed that Mrs. Ford’s death had nothing to do with her.” “I don’t want to hear about her.” Tristan lowered his head, his voice flat. “Keep watching for news. Let me know if there’s anything. I need to keep looking for Nicky.” The assi

“I only wanted to help. I saw how devastated you were and worried you wouldn’t have the energy to arrange Mrs. Ford’s funeral, so I stepped in to share the burden!”“Lisa Evans! Have I given you too much leeway, making you forget your place in my life?”He raised his hand and gripped her chin tightly, his force so strong it sent sharp pain through her.Lisa saw the murderous intent in his eyes as if he wanted nothing more than to end her right then and there.“Tristan, what are you saying? I really just wanted to help!”“You’re the reason! If it weren’t for you, Nicky wouldn’t be dead! If it weren’t for you, I never would have hurt her!”With a shove, Tristan sent Lisa sprawling to the ground. She stumbled, knocking over the flower arrangements set up for the so-called funeral. The crowd watched in stunned silence, no one daring to utter a word.“Tear it down. Now.”At Tristan’s command, his assistant immediately called for workers to dismantle everything on site.“I’ll say this one mo

"If you had stayed out of Nicky's way and kept to yourself, I might have let you have this child. But you crossed the line. You never should have shown up in front of her!" "I didn’t! It wasn’t me! Why don’t you believe me? She’s the one who asked to meet me! She’s the one who jumped!" "Take her away." Tristan pinched the bridge of his nose, exhaustion evident in every fiber of his being. He was drained, both physically and emotionally. Nicole had left him because of Lisa. If Nicole knew Lisa was carrying his child, she would never forgive him, nor would she ever come back. That was why he had to make sure Lisa didn’t keep the baby. "I’m not leaving! Tristan, you can’t do this to me!" Lisa struggled, refusing to go with the assistant. The assistant hesitated, torn between his duty and his own discomfort with the situation. As the tension escalated, an idea suddenly flashed in Lisa’s mind. "Tristan, have you ever thought that maybe Nicole has already been reincarnated?

The fire had grown too intense, and someone called the authorities. When the firefighters arrived, they caught Lisa in the act of attacking Tristan. She was quickly subdued, and one of the medics rushed to Tristan's side, helping him up. "Sir, are you alright? Sir!" Tristan couldn’t respond. His gaze shifted toward Nicole, who was still unconscious nearby. As long as she was safe, he didn’t care if he lost his life. His vision blurred, his mind slipping into darkness as he collapsed. When Nicole woke, she was lying on a hospital bed. She opened her mouth to speak but found she couldn’t utter a word. Her throat was dry, and she desperately wanted water. Struggling to sit up, she caught the attention of a passing nurse, who rushed over. "Don’t move too much; your body is still weak.”Nicole licked her cracked lips, glancing around the room. "Why am I in the hospital? Where’s Lisa?" The nurse smiled. "Do you mean the man who saved you?" Seeing Nicole’s confusion, t

Lisa glanced at the caller ID and let out a cold laugh before leisurely answering. “What have you done to Nicole?” Tristan’s roar came through the line. “Lisa, if you touch her, I swear I’ll make sure you regret it for the rest of your life!” “Regret? Ha! What’s there to regret when I’m as good as dead?” She took a deep breath and said, “Come to her coffee shop now. I’m waiting for you. Let’s see if you’re really willing to die for Nicole.” With a glance at the unconscious woman behind her, Lisa ended the call. Stepping outside, she grabbed a torch and threw it directly onto the gasoline-soaked floor. In an instant, flames erupted, roaring into the night sky and illuminating the darkness. By the time Tristan arrived, the fire had engulfed the coffee shop. Lisa stood in front of the inferno, laughing wildly. “Burn! Burn it all! The bigger the flames, the better!” Tristan rushed forward, grabbing her arm tightly. “Lisa, where is Nicole? What have you done to her? Whe

Nicole jumped in shock. “I’m sorry, ma’am, we’re closed for the day.” She was about to turn on the lights when the woman suddenly moved closer, pressing a knife to her back. “What are you doing?” Nicole asked, panic rising as she realized something was wrong. She hadn’t expected to face a situation like this, but she quickly forced herself to stay calm. “What do you want? Money? I can give you all of it, just don’t hurt me.” A cold laugh came from behind her. “Well, well, I didn’t think you’d be afraid to die.” The voice struck Nicole as eerily familiar. Who could it be? “Lisa Evans!” It was Lisa’s voice. What was she doing here? “Good. You still remember me.” Lisa sneered. “Bet you didn’t expect me to find you.” She pulled out a small glass of liquid and thrust it toward Nicole. “Drink this.” “What is it?” Nicole asked warily, her eyes fixed on the glass. “What are you trying to do?” “I said, drink it!” Lisa’s voice rose with anger as she pressed the knife

"Nicky, can’t you forgive me?" Tristan held the coffee cup tightly, the warmth from it finally thawing his frozen hands a little. "If I had been with another man, sneaking around behind your back for two years, would you have forgiven me?" Nicole threw the question at him, and Tristan was struck silent, unable to respond. After a long pause, he clenched his jaw and nodded. "I would. I’d forgive you, Nicky. I love you. No matter what you did, I’d forgive you." Hearing his answer, Nicole let out a mocking laugh. "That’s where we’re different, Tristan. First, I would never do something like that. And second, I don’t forgive you." Desperation filled Tristan’s eyes as he grabbed her hand, his voice trembling. "Just one more chance. Please, give me one last chance!" Nicole calmly withdrew her hand from his grip, her face emotionless. "I told you before, Tristan—if you ever betrayed me, I’d leave you for good." "No." Tristan shook his head, his heart breaking, the pa

When Tristan saw her at the coffee shop, his heart leapt with joy. Getting up quickly, he finally laid eyes on the person who had consumed his every thought. "Nicky, it’s really you!" Though his body was stiff and freezing, he pushed through the discomfort, stepping toward Nicole. "You’re alive. You’re really alive!" Tears welled up instantly as he reached out with trembling hands, desperate to touch her, to confirm she wasn’t a figment of his imagination. Nicole raised her eyes, her gaze indifferent as she looked at him. "Sir, who are you?" Her words sent a flash of panic across Tristan’s face. "What are you saying? Nicky, don’t you remember me?" He stared at her in disbelief. She was Nicole—there was no mistaking her. How could she not recognize him? "Sorry, sir, you’ve got the wrong person," Nicole replied, her tone calm and distant. She lowered her head and focused on crafting the latte art for the cup of coffee in front of her. After finishing, she handed t

The woman in the photo had short hair and wore simple clothes. She stood by the window, head down as she made coffee, completely unaware that someone was secretly taking her picture. Even though she looked somewhat different from the Nicole he remembered, Tristan recognized her instantly—there was no doubt she was Nicole!“Send me the address. Name your price, I’ll pay whatever you want.” "One million dollars. Are you willing to pay that much, Mr. Ford?"Without hesitation, Tristan asked for the account number and had his assistant transfer the one million dollars immediately. He was ready to fly to Sutherland at once, and not even his assistant could stop him.“Mr. Ford, don’t be foolish. This could be another scam,” the assistant said, shaking his head and sighing. “Do you know how much money the company’s transferred in the past few days? Ten million dollars! And we haven’t even found a trace of her.”“Shut up and book me a ticket. Now!” Left with no choice, the assistant reluct

Tristan started another livestream. This time, he openly confessed to everything he had done in the past—from meeting Lisa two years ago and getting involved with her to the day Nicole jumped into the river in despair. He detailed it all without holding anything back. As he spoke, the viewer count in the livestream skyrocketed to over a hundred thousand. The comment section was flooded with insults. People called him inhuman, a wolf in sheep’s clothing. They cursed him as despicable, shameless, and ungrateful. The vulgar words filled the screen, most of them censored into rows of asterisks. Even so, the anger of the viewers was unmistakable. Tristan paid no attention to the torrent of abuse. Instead, he activated the live call feature, inviting people to confront him directly and vent their fury. The first caller wasted no time. "Tristan Ford, you’re the most disgusting person I’ve ever seen—even worse than my cheating husband! Poor Miss Snow must’ve had the worst luck in

Tristan stood motionless, seemingly deaf to the chaos around him. He faced the crowd’s scorn directly as if atoning for his sins. Before long, someone shouted, “The mistress is bleeding!” “Did she just lose the baby from that fall?” “Serves her right!” A warm stream flowed between Lisa’s legs, quickly pooling into a crimson stain on the ground. Terror gripped her heart as she reached out with trembling hands to touch the blood. The warmth on her fingertips and the metallic smell filling the air sent her into a panic. “My baby! My baby! Tristan, please, I’m begging you! Save my baby!” “You deserve this! Why should Miss Snow die while you get to have a child and live happily ever after with Tristan Ford as a family?” “Exactly! Justice has been served. This is your karma! You should be grateful your child is gone. If it had been a girl, she’d grow up to be just like you, a mistress!” The crowd roared in support of Nicole, their anger boiling over, while Tristan remained
