In front of me was the guy whose car I had damaged. He was dressed just like the previous day, in an expensive suit only now he wasn't wearing sunglasses. He looked so at home, almost as if he owned the place.
A surge of panic shot through me as I remembered the fake phone number I had given him. Instinctively, I hid behind a nearby wall, I prayed silently that he hadn't seen me.
"What are you doing here?" a voice suddenly exclaimed, catching me off guard. My shock intensified when I realized that it was the very same man I was trying to hide from
"I work here" I started composing myself
His blue eyes scrutinized me from head to toe "You don't work here. I know all the staff"
I shifted away from him
"Well maybe you don't know everyone"
"I do know everyone. So who exactly are you?" His eyes once again ravaged my body, making me feel uncomfortable
"I'm new. It's my first day" I finally said
He nodded his head and then a glint appeared in his eyes like he had just remembered something
"Oh okay.. The number you gave to me, I'm sure it must have been a mistake.. I tried calling it and it didn't connect"
Oh shit! He had called the number. I had to say something…
"I'm running a bit late, and it's my first day. How about we discuss this later? Thank you," I said, attempting to walk away from the uncomfortable situation. But before I could make my escape, his hand grabbed mine sending a spark through my bones and preventing me from moving away
His voice sounded colder than usual
"You gave me the wrong number on purpose, didn't you?" he accused, his grip tightening slightly.
Panic flooded my eyes as I tried to free myself from his grasp. "Of course not. I really have to go now. We can talk about this later," I pleaded, desperately peeling his hand off mine and swiftly walking away.
As I hurriedly made my way towards the office I had been directed to, I couldn't shake off the nagging thought that if that guy was indeed a worker there, how could he afford such an extravagantly expensive car? Pushing the question aside, I made my way to the receptionist.
"Hi I'm Nora Roberts, I was told to resume today" I said to the beautiful blonde lady who looked nice.
She returned my smile and searched through some files as she spoke
"Oh you're the new Personal Assistant to Mr Nathaniel Lockhart"
So that's his name, I've never really paid attention to the owner, I've just loved the company.
As the receptionist spoke again, I pulled out of my thoughts "The boss has been waiting for you, follow me"
"Okay"
She led me up the stairs and to the front of a door
"Here we are, just go in he has been expecting you"
I looked at the door and back at her
"Should I knock first?"
"There's no need for that, just go in and introduce yourself"
"Okay thank you"
"Let me know if you need anything"
I smiled lightly at her and nodded my head in appreciation. At least someone who worked here was nice. I hoped that the boss would also be nice. She told me not to knock, what if he was in the middle of something and I just walk in. Well she said not to knock So I guess, I'm not knocking.
Taking in a deep breath, I turned the doorknob and opened the door.
"Well well, we meet again" a familiar voice said. I looked up and it was the guy whose car I hit. Wait a minute, if he was sitting in that seat in this office that only meant that
"You. You're the boss?" I ask with a raised voice and a pointed finger
He looked genuinely shocked at my shock
"Why do you sound so surprised? Aren't I handsome enough?" He asked raising his perfectly sculpted chin
I rolled my eyes and folded my arms
"I don't think being handsome is a qualification for being a boss"
Placing a hand on his desk, the semi jovial look he had on, dissipates and his stoic expression returns
"You should keep it in mind that I am your boss. Considering everything you've done so far, damaging my car, giving me a wrong number and destroying my good shirt last night. I have so many reasons to fire you right this moment"
It finally dawned on me that I could lose the job I needed. Dream or no dream. I needed a job to pay my bills.
"Mr Lockhart. I am very sorry for everything" I begged with my hands joined in a plea
He looked pleased at my demeanor
"What are you going to do to fix it?" He asked with a little smirk
I wanted nothing more than to wipe the stupid smirk off his face
"I can't afford to fix the damages to your car but I can pay you back by being a wonderful personal assistant to you sir"
"That's not enough" He immediately said
"I'll do anything. Please I really need this job"
He looked pleased at my words
"That's more like it. We shall continue this discussion later, for now, I need you to fetch me a cup of coffee"
"Does that mean I'm not fired?" I asked
"Are you retarded? Would I ask you to fetch me a cup of coffee if you weren't my assistant?"
I had only asked a question, he didn't have to make me feel dumb.
I bowed my head
"Thank you sir. You will not regret this"
"I already do" He murmured but loud enough for me to hear
Minutes later, I returned with a cup of coffee in hand.
"Here's your coffee sir"
He collected it and dropped it on his desk.
"For now, you can go and sit with the receptionist. Learn all you need to from her, she was my assistant at some point
Tomorrow there'll be provision for you in this office" he stated and took a sip from the coffee, his eyes lit up as he tasted it, it was almost as if he was surprised that it tasted good but wait what had he just said
"I'll be staying in here with you?" I asked
He shook his head
"No you'll be staying in here with another handsome boss…. "of course you'll be staying in here with me. Do you get a perk from asking dumb questions?"
"I'm sorry sir"
"You better be. Now leave"
I hated his attitude but I couldn't do anything about it. He was my boss and I owed him for the car, so even though I wanted to walk closer to him and pour coffee on his head, I gently bowed my head in respect and left his office.
Luckily the receptionist who introduced herself as Laura, was very nice. She explained everything I needed to know, gave me the needed documents and put me through with a kind voice despite my questions.
Finally it was six and I could go home. As soon as I was at home, I took a quick shower and changed into some comfortable clothes. I was about to put on my television when I heard a knock on the door.
The only people who visited me by this time w
ere my friends and they were both busy with work so who could it be?
I flinched as the person knocked again …
I flinched as the person knocked again. With shaky legs, I stood up from my couch and walked to the door.I opened the door slowly and almost screamed as I saw my boss, Mr Lockhart standing in front of me.His wandering eyes made me aware of the baggy sweatshirt and pants I had on. I always loved being comfortable at home"Sir, what are you doing here?" I quickly asked His stoic expression was infuriating me, I liked being able to read people's emotions and I couldn't read his"You said you'd do anything to pay for the damages you did to my car" he stated By this time of the night?Does he think that I'd sleep with him to pay a debt? Is he delusional? "I know I said I'd do anything but I didn't mean that…"He quick interrupted me "Let me stop you right there. I didn't come here to sleep with you. That would be unprofessional and I am a man of class""So why are you here by this time?"He looked into my house"Mind if I come in?"Yes I mind "I'm sorry I don't think that's a good i
When I was in middle school, there was a day when I decided to wear lipstick and makeup for the first time. I genuinely thought I looked good as I walked into school, but little did I know what awaited me. As soon as I entered the building, Skully, the boy who always mocked and bullied me, grabbed me by the shirt and dragged me towards him into a secluded corner. "You look like a clown," he sneered, his words cutting through me."My mom said I looked beautiful," I replied, desperately holding onto a glimmer of confidence."She lied to you. Take it off," he spat with contempt.Defiantly, I shook my head. "No," I mustered, summoning a bit of courage, and pushed him away. However, he responded by shoving me back with force, causing my back to collide with the unforgiving wall. The pain was immediate, and I couldn't help but cry out, "Ouch!""Take it off now!" I couldn't let him into my house, not after the last time."What are you doing here, Marcus?" I asked looking him straight in the eye"Are you really dating the CEO of that company you always talked about?" Curiosity filled his voice"Yes and I don't see how it's any of your business" "It is my business, if my girl is going out with some guy, I need to know" "I am not your girl. Can you leave? I have somewhere I need to be" He licked his lips and took a step towards me "Wouldn't you invite me in?"I tightened my grip on the door "No. You're not welcome here. Not anymore"His gaze deepened and he took a step forward towards the door. I knew that if he tried to get in on his own, I would stand no chance agai
Nora's P.O.V *Dear Miss Nora Roberts, we are happy to inform you that you passed the interview to be the personal assistant to the CEO of Lockhart's industry. You are obliged to start work on monday by 8:00am. We look forward to working with you*For the fifth time that day, I read out the email I had been waiting for. Two weeks ago, I sat for an interview in Lockhart's industry for the position of the personal assistant. I never thought I'd get it.I only applied there because my best friends Stacey and James kept pushing me to try. It had always been my dream to be an architect, and what better way to fuel that dream than working as a P.A. to the CEO of the best architectural company?Enough about my dreams, it was time to celebrate. My friends had texted me to meet them at Clyde's bar to celebrate my big news.In less than ten minutes, I was on the road. My driving mirror was hanging down as I applied lipstick. I averted my gaze from the road to the mirror hanging in front of me.
