CHAPTER 14

Sam took her eyes off her laptop when the door to her office opened and her secretary, Shirley Pascal entered with an irritating look on her usual calm and friendly face on a Wednesday morning.

“Everything okay?” Sam asked with a smile. “You seldom come in here with that look.”

“That Damian McLaren’s one exasperating person, that’s what. I’ve been filtering all calls from him as you instructed. Why didn’t you unblock his number yet?” Shirley answered dryly. She gestured with her head towards the door. “Get ready for battle, Sam. Reception called me in advance, informing that he just stormed inside the building.”

“Can you just tell him that I’m not here or in a meeting?” Sam suggested.

“Too late.”

The two women looked towards the door and Damian’s form came into view, framed by the door frame. He looked irritated and ready to murder Sam from the inconvenience that she had put him through.
