Raven sat reading her mothers books while nestled in her corner covered in furs. Candlelight flickered in her eyes scanned the words of her ancestors. The language was long lost to anyone outside of her family. Her mother came in from hanging the herbs she had just harvested so they could dry. The sweet soothing scent of lavender and lemongrass filled the room. As Mama wiped her hands on her apron a smile grew across her face. Watching her only child absorb the family knowledge so eagerly warmed her soul. "I'm going to run out of books for you to read soon, aren't I?" Raven glanced up at her Mama and broke her attention from the book smiling.
“I hope you have been stirring the stew. The potatoes seem to be ready." She poked them with the two pronged fork. One plump potato clung to the fork glistening in the candlelight. Ravens stomach growled. Hearing how hungry her daughter was she held up the potato and asked Raven to come taste test the stew. Taking two beat up metal plates, Raven grabbed the ladle off the hook on the fireplace and filled her mothers plate first. Then she filled hers and sat at the raw wooden table. "Well?" Her mother inquired. "Mama it's always perfect. I may not remember to stir but you never forget the flavor" she recalled.Years have passed since then. Raven looked at the burning flames licking the wood in the hearth. Rembering her Mother like that brought her bittersweet emotions. She'll never forget the day they found them in the forrest. Her Mother had to use all of her magical abilities to keep her daughter hidden. What those men did to her left her with a limp until the last of her days. She shuddered as she tried to push those thoughts away. It's getting colder outside and it would be harder to hide her footsteps in the snow. She had to harvest the last of the garden before they all gave away to the first frost. “Night gave way to day and the chill in the air warmed. Raven took her skirt and tucked it into her belt. She walked out leaving the door open to let out the chill. She grabbed her flat basket and headed to her garden made in a nestle of trees under a canopy of sunlight to flourish. Raven pulled at the cabbage heads, grabbed the shovel and dug up potatoes; she broke off the herbs and pulled up the carrots. Looking at her basket she worried she misjudged her harvest. It was already too full to carry easily. She stood up and dusted her knees off and then her hands. Bending over she noticed a slight movement in the brush. Just then a rabbit leapt from them and ran towards the basket. "Hey! All you have to do is ask." She bent over, picked up her basket and grabbed a carrot out of the bundle and sat it down where the basket was. There's enough for us both. The rabbit walked to the carrot and picked it up with both hands and started nibbling. Raven had a way with animals. Since she was a girl, she talked to them as if they were able to understand but somehow, they really seem to. Her mama told her she had the gift of whispers. “While she walked back to her cabin, she looked around for wild medicinal herbs. She needed some more tinctures for the winter. She picked and pulled up roots and leaves whilst stuffing them into her apron pocket. Suddenly, all the sounds of the forrest silenced. She darted her eyes around the tree line worried the men came back. Still, she didn't hear horses or voices. Instead she started to feel dizzy. She began running back to the cabin and made it inside just before she passed out on the floor. The cabbages rolled with the potatoes across the floor and the basket twirled on its side back and forth."Raven. Wake up my dearest. Danger is nye. Come now, wake up." Her mamas voice echoed as she started waking up still on the floor. She could smell the scent of leather and musk. A voice echoed from outside. "It's getting cold out, Miss. Perhaps you could invite me in so I may warm myself by your fire. I can smell your stew as well. Could I trouble you for a meal?" Raven jumped up and saw ice blue eyes peering into her cabin from outside the protection perimeter. "You may continue on your way, Sir. I won't be entertaining this evening. Or any evening. Good day," she sternly warned her unexpected visitor. "How did he find me? The protections are still fixed and he didn't seem to be able to cross the barrier. He could see inside so she would perform her Mamas spell again immediately." "Miss. I can hear your thoughts. You can't hide from me like this. I am here for help. I'll drop the pretense. I am Barren Bradford Whitley. I’ve looked far and vast to find the one whom I could procure a very powerful potion from. Behind every locked door is the mention of Alexandre Bellavonnes." “He knows my mama?" dawning on her was the realization he knew a lot more than that." "Barren Whitley, you are too bold. If you knew mama then did you not hear? Savages ruined her beyond repair. She's gone mad and hidden herself away from even me.""I intend to use your blood to summon her." Raven slowed her thoughts to silence. Considering he wants to use her blood for who knows what, she didn't intend on invitation being granted. "Barren, You will have to help me understand. You can stay right there and speak to me. What potion are you searching for?" "Exivo" His icy eyes could see through the doorway her smooth sun kissed face. He could still smell the dirt under delicate fingernails. He listened as her feet shuffled picking up the vegetables and placing them on her table. Even at a distance he could see she was breathtakingly beautiful. "What do you want with my blood?"Bradford thought to himself how she had great strength to be able to make it inside her house after the waves of his hypnotism. Seeing Ms. Bellavonnes charms are still active meant she was still alive somewhere and he had to get that cure. "Your blood ties are like maps. With your blood, a path to her will reveal itself and I can present my request to her. I will be able to calm the madness in return." Raven pulled the strands of hair that had fallen out of her braids behind her ears. Saving her words, she replied in thought, "One more question." Knowing anyone who means her harm can not pass the charms, "Why haven't you come inside by force?" Barren was found out. His intention to take her blood whether she agreed or not would not let him move forward. "I'm afraid I can't. I will require the invitation. How about this?" Bradford chanted a truth binding spell and stretched out his palm to shake her hand. Then he said to her mind, " Come out and ask me, as I cannot lie to you now."
Energy coursed through Bradfords veins. From inside a flame licked and curled through the tunnels of life giving tendrils. Bradfords head shot backwards as the steering burning pain ravaged him momentarily. Raven looked curiously at his body contorting. He seemed to ignite internally. Sweat kissed his skin and she wondered if her mother’s blood caused such pain. Suddenly, Bradford stood at attention and began sniffing the air. Following the pull he began to follow a path. Raven snatched his coat as she ran out the door after him. A strange soft glow appeared in front of him as the wind picked up swirling the leaves around them. A disembodied voice echoed through the dancing leaves, “Leave me be or find your end.” Tossing his coat over his shoulders as he kneeled against the pain, her ears honed into her mamas voice. “Mama?!” Raven closed her eyes and tried to see her. Through the trees she pushed her vision, past the broken creek and over the barrows. Still nothing. Bradford seemed
It was chill on the air this night while a soft fire glowed in the hearth. The soup still boiling, Mama asked Raven, “You can’t forget to stir. My dear child, I hope you’ve absorbed all these books. You’ve read them many times.” Alexandre looked wistfully at the pot. This soup had been cooking ever since they settled here. The cabin was half covered by moss and Ivy when she acquired it. The wild flowers grew and the trees made a dome of beautiful protection. The Forrest has only grown since then. The magic has filled the space with such a warm safe feeling. “I did stir it. And added a few things. Found some mushrooms and grabbed some more herbs“ Raven didn’t even look up from her book as she twirled a loose curl around her left index finger while she held a book by the spine absorbing the words from the pages. Alexandre admired her child. One day they would talk more about her father and why he was really gone. Her thoughts shifted to more painful thoughts, “This mission may keep me
Bradford noticed the glowing light disappaiting before his eyes. He either had found her or she worked a spell to conceal herself. The aroma of lavender and lemongrass filled the air as he slowed his pace once again. Alexandre listened for Ravens breathingl. “It’s steady but labored. Her heartbeat seems to be strong enough to handle the elixir.” Stepping from behind them out of the trees, Bradford sensed her and immediately turned to face her. He watched her eyes dart over her daughter looking for a bite or something to indicate her state. “She was trying to find you. I gave her a small amount of my blood so she could keep going. I feared you would detect our arrival and flee before I could speak on my Elder Lord’s behalf to you.” “If she dies…Stop wasting precious moments stumbling over your words and tell me which fate befell her? Poison? Enchantment? Did you bite her?” Her eyes flashed with dark hues. Her eyes peered into Bradford’s thoughts and she spoke clearly in his mind,
“Mama? Is that really you?” Licking her lips Raven began to open her eyes. Looking around the surroundings looked familiar as she batted her eyes. It smelled like home. Her mama moved her hair off of her face. The tendrils had loosened in her journey. It had only been a few short years and yet her daughter hair had grown and she was a woman now. The little girl she left behind was gone. Bradford watched the scene and felt like he was seeing firsthand what maternal love and protection looked like. It had been too many years since he had experienced these feelings and the discomfort was his alone. Shuffling his hands he waited patiently as Alexandre tended to her daughter. Raven awoke. She stood up timidly. She looked at the hearth containing the same carvings as home. The glow illuminated a small cauldron over the fire. The mantle held books and melting candles. Wax danced down their stalks. Vases held dried flowers and herbs. The enchanted bookcase had a place here as well. “Why?”
“We have been in hiding for centuries now. Having a baby with the Bitten was a tricky process. The pregnancy lasted years instead of months. Many had tried before and failed. But I was a part of an old clan as well. One that had been casting for centuries before me and power had only grown in the battles among my people hungry to control it all.” Raven sat blank and overwhelmed. Her whole life she felt different. She had no idea that she was as old as centuries. She felt like a young lady. Her body had grown into a woman. Don’t the Bitten stop aging when bit? Mama sensed her anxious energy and heard her bouncing thoughts and questions. “My beautiful daughter. We are in fact older than a human can live and because of our power, I fought to find freedom. Just give me more time to explain before it is too late.” She glanced at the Barren and saw he was intently listening to her every word while glancing back and forth between mama and Raven. “After years of ritual of blessing my womb
Raven, Alexandre and Bradford works through the night. The spell was completed and Bradford started to shift towards seeking shelter for the day. “I have a place for you to rest. Come.” Alexandre put the vials away in the cupboard and turned to walk out, “Raven, it would be best if you came to this destination with us. You may end up needing it.” Raven followed behind draping her cape over her shoulders and lifting the hood over her head. Everything she ever heard about the Bitten was dark and dangerous. The hard reality was her mama hid half of who she was from her. And now she had fears of herself becoming something that would have to be put down like a lame donkey. “Raven, you can choose to be better. I have given you all the knowledge I could gather for our library to help you know yourself as a caster and a right powerful one at that. I’ve seen how you’ve kept the charms strong at home and the way the garden thrives. The yields have kept the creatures strong. I believe you have
The gates were tall, wrought iron, and imposing. Raven and Alexandre walked through the gates looking all around them. Both of them terrified of what may be fall upon them in this new place and this old place, they stepped forward, determined to meet the elder Lord head on. Walking up the path towards the front door Alexandra looked at her daughter and said. “ we are already at the point of no return. If you take me in, they may take it easy on you. After all, you didn’t make the choice to leave, you were spirited away and then kept there without your knowledge of your family.” “Mama, I would never do that to you. I’m gonna go in here with you in front of me as the leader you have always been for me. I am sure they will take mercy upon you because of such a wonderful job you have done with me. I may be a natural caster and I may be born of the bitten, but what I am not is a traitor. Now let’s go in here together and make our grand return.” The ladies continued through the door. The
Margaret went up to the deck to think more clearly however that was not to be. Vlad himself rarely allowed anyone to witness him in his full moon glory. What a sight she was to behold. Margaret’s long ringlets danced in the wind as the moon flashed off of her glass like eyes. Marble skin seemed to allow light to pass through it. Her dress moved and swayed with each gust of wind. The sailors whispered amongst themselves, “Tis mighty bad luv to have a woman aboard.” “That’s not the worst thing aboard, men. You’d better mind your tongues for no whispered thing is hidden here.” The captain scolded the men and tipped his hat to the Lady. Margaret watched as the Captain was keen on what she was. His biggest worry was how many of them would make port before the destination had been reached. Margaret moved past piles of ropes and sails hoisted holding the wind to move them along quickly. She imagined she could blow into them to hasten their journey. Margaret walked over to the edge of the
Margaret felt the waves sloshing back and forth as she laid in her dark space. Waves sounded like thunder as she imagined what this marriage was to provide to her life. Her mind riddled with memories of Bradford and her new founded family. Her father traded her. Margaret felt a pain deep inside her soul. “How could he do this to me?” Tiny streams of bloody tears began to fall from her eyes like waterfalls. Suddenly her sleeping place wasn’t hers alone. She tensed up as the profound strength of her paramour exposed his intentions to her. Reaching down and touching her cheek, he spoke, “I have many wives. They will be like sisters to you. The bond you will feel with them will be similar to the blood bond you will feel with me now.” “Vlad Tepes was my name. Most call me by some other formidable names. I am the Walachian Prince. My enemies know no mercy. I am not as old as some of the creatures you know. I am the father of all our kind. It’s been hundreds of years longer than I’ve al
Moon Goddess Priestess knew that she would have to get back to the party. Taking this deal meant she would forever have the herbs that she needed to protect her Pack. She would be able to fend off illness and magical attacks. The benefits of this were endless and she had prayed to the Moon Goddess many times about this. It was only now that Raven was at full strength that she worried regular herbs would not be enough to protect her. The Alpha King would likely rip anyone to shreds that contribute to Raven’s death or illness. And pups! Who knows what kind of trials a hybrid high born pure line would come. “I am coming. Meet me in the clearing. I bring good tidings” The Priestess linked to Beta Chance. She turned and grabbed the tea she had made to make Raven’s body open to pregnancy. She would bathe her in these tea leaves and oils anointed for their union. While she put her vials into her robe she felt Prince Vlad’s vial. Pulling it out she unlocked a box inside of the cupboard.
“Stop struggling. I am much older than you. I wish to take you back to your father. After, of course, you agree to marry me and leave this place. I need you in my world.” The sinister raspy voice ordered Margaret. “You definitely have a way of catching a lady’s eye. How could you just abduct me and then demand my hand. This is improper!” She growled back. “This is the only way I could get you back in time to make sail before the sun rises. We have to go before your father and confirm this union.” The mans raspy voice sent chills down her spine. “Make sail? You have got to be kidding. I’m not leaving home. I am a part of a powerful family and they will not simply go on without at least looking for me.” Margaret warned. “Believe me, I have accounted for that. Now, stop struggling. We have a wedding to attend…Ours.” He pulled her shoulders along with such speed and might, even Margaret had some difficulty keeping pace with him. A strong knock on her father’s door led to the sou
As Alpha King Sebastian and Queen Luna Raven returned to their robes they walked naked and hand and hand up to the courtyard. Alpha King stood in front of his Queen Luna and picked up her robe. She turned her back to the attendees who were whistling and cheering for them. “I didn’t realize they would all hear us.” She blushed and he placed her robe onto her shoulders. She tied the strings to keep it closed and Alpha Xander picked up the Alpha King’s robe and placed it on his shoulders. He slid his hands into the robe and Raven turned around and tied his strings. “Shall we go and put on our party clothes, my love?” Raven asked. “Yes, my love, we shall. Alpha Xander has our items laid out in the Alpha den. Let us go there as the guests go begin the party.” Alpha Xander spoke to the guests, “All right, all right. Let us go to prepare the way for the newlyweds to be received. Luna Avery will take them to prepare and we will all go and get the party started. Also…the first one to get the
Alpha King Sebastian and Queen Raven sat at the wedding table and looked across the hall at all of the territories that had come together. Many prior to this day hadn’t been in the same room together for far too long. This was the hope of this union, that all of them could be united under one banner and be a community they could all trade and grow with. They wanted the days of neighboring packs fighting and the war between the Bitten and the Lycans to be ended. Alpha King looked at his beloved Mate sitting beside him and heard her thoughts, “Yes, my love, I too, think it is time for us to consummate this union. Would you be ready to start the run?” Queen Raven smirked and teased, “I thought you’d never ask.” She stood and kissed his smidge on his forehead and took her leave to the entrance of the courtyard that led into the enchanted forrest. Alpha King stood once again and address the wedding reception guests, “The time for the Mating Ceremony has come. We leave now to join as o
Queen Raven and Alpha King Sebastian took their places in front of the guests of the realm. The Moon Goddess Priestess stood at the center of them looking over the entire wedding attendees. She felt something cold in her stomach. Her eyes scanned the guests and looked towards the shadows in the back. Something was amiss, but it would have to wait. This union had to be completed for all to see and nothing could stop it. “I have performed the sacred union of the two souls in the enchanted pool of ancestors. Upon their heads adorns the ancient wedding crowns that bound many Kings and Queens before these times. They have taken their vows wholeheartedly, as is evident in their mating stains. Now they will take their wedding vows here for all of you to see.” She turned to the Alpha King and spoke, “To whom do you give yourself to today, Alpha King Sebastian?” He looked into his beloved’s eyes and felt warmed emanating from them. “I give myself to Raven the hybrid Queen all my years and a
Ashley crept into the Alpha den to check on Margaret. She has been so patient with her. Lycans require so much rest and replenishment to grow pups. The Bitten can’t understand this as they can’t procreate. The confusion with her kind of this mating must be hard for her to translate to the new world that she is existing in. Ashley felt a tingle of pain for the amount of callous emotion she has shown this woman. Her thoughts spanned to a place where she once felt like she didn’t have a mate. Not a true mate. Over and over she had remembered her thoughts left her to believe that she had to become something that didn’t need love to survive. There’s no understanding that now that she has a future to look at; there is no way that she can just abandon the woman who she had seen to help her beloved through his trials and tribulations to come to be the Mate that she has come to know today. Watching her delicate figure sleep, she understood that this creature didn’t ask for the life that she
The four of the Alpha King’s pack that had entered the territory were now edging around the pack houses and looking for any obvious tales of where the hidden den could be. Avery Luna’s scent was everywhere here. She was the one who trained their own warriors right here in the courtyard. Kona looked around and saw an area just past these houses in the edge of the forest. She tip toed back to that area and led them to the opening in the ground. “It’s a tunnel. It’s got to be the right place. Stay close and keep your senses about you.” Ducking down into the tunnel, they were unaware that the Alpha Xander had trips that let him know when someone entered his tunnels. Alpha Xander’s ears perked up and he mind linked to Luna Avery, “Beloved, are you back? I don’t smell you but someone just entered our secret tunnels. I’m going to check this out.” He spoke to Beta Chance, “Go to the tunnels. Someone is in them.”“Alpha,” as he bowed he ran out the side. Beta had a direct shot to the entra
