Chapter 6

Amelia's heart was pounding as she rushed towards the sleek black sports car offering her a ride. She could feel the piercing eyes of the journalists and reporters behind her, eager to get a glimpse of her and ask her questions.

James Thompson was dressed in a dark suit, and wore shades that covered his eyes. Amelia got in the car. She didn't hesitate and slid into the front seat as he got back in behind the wheel.

Breathless and shaken, Amelia finally turned to face him. "Who are you?" she asked, her voice trembling.

James took off his shades and turned to her with a charming smile. His fair complexion and chiseled features made her catch her breath.

"Where are my manners," he said. "I'm James Thompson, Andrew's business partner."

"Ohhh, nice to meet you," she blurted out.

Amelia's mind was racing with questions about Andrew's condition and the events that had led to the accident. But when Alex spoke again, her thoughts were interrupted.

"I didn't know Andrew had such a beautiful wife," James said with a smile.

Amelia felt herself blushing at the unexpected compliment. "Oh, thank you," she replied softly.

"He's a lucky man." He continued.

Amelia blushed and looked away. "Are you flirting with me?" she asked, half-joking.

James laughed. "I wouldn't dare," he said. "But I have to admit, it's hard not to notice how stunning you are."

"I'm flattered." Amelia mouthed.

As they drove on, Alex turned to Amelia with a more serious expression. "I heard about the accident. How is Andrew doing?"

Amelia was taken aback. "How did you know about the accident?" she asked, surprised.

Alex hesitated for a moment before responding. "I got a call from Alexander earlier today. He told me that Andrew had been in a serious accident and was in the hospital. And besides, Andrew Reynolds is very famous, the news is all over."

Amelia nodded slowly, still trying to process the news.

"Yes, he's in the hospital now," she replied softly. "He might not be able to make it, he is in a coma."

James nodded. "I'm sorry to hear that," he said. "If there's anything I can do to help, please let me know."

Amelia was silence for a while.

"Where are we going?" She asked, looking out the window as they drove.

"I need to show you some documents," James replied, keeping his eyes on the road.

Amelia turned to look at him, surprised. "Documents? Why are you thinking about business at a time like this? Andrew is in a coma."

"I know, and I'm sorry, but these documents are important," James replied, glancing at her briefly before returning his attention to the road.

"Important? How could they be important now?" Amelia asked, a hint of anger creeping into her voice. "Are you trying to profit off of Andrew's condition? Are you hoping his death would favor you?"

James's eyes widened in shock. "What? No, Amelia, how could you think that? I'm only interested in what's best for everyone."

Amelia shook her head, not convinced.

James fell silent for a moment, and then he spoke again. "You need to see these documents."

Amelia looked at him, her expression a mixture of anger and confusion. "I don't want to see any documents, drop me off here.

James hesitated, his hands tightening on the steering wheel. "I can't drop you off here. Please, just come with me. It won't take long."

Amelia looked at him for a moment, then sighed and leaned back in her seat.

After a few minutes, they arrived at his apartment complex, and James parked the car in his designated spot. He turned to Amelia. "We're here," he said, turning off the engine.

Amelia looked around, confused. "Here? I thought we were going to the office?"

James smiled at her. "I thought you might be more comfortable here. Come on, I want to show you those documents."

Amelia looked at him suspiciously, but followed him as he led the way to his apartment. As they walked up the stairs, Amelia felt a growing sense of unease. Something didn't feel right.

When they reached the apartment, James unlocked the door and gestured for Amelia to go inside. "Here, have a seat," he said, motioning to the couch.

Amelia sat down, still feeling uneasy. "What's going on? Why did you bring me here?"

James didn't utter a word, as he moved closer to Amelia on the couch, his hand inching towards her lap. Amelia felt uncomfortable and shifted away from him.

"What are you doing?" she asked, looking at him with confusion.

"I just want to make sure we're on the same page," James said, his hand still hovering near her lap. "With Andrew in a coma, the business is in your hands. I want to help you make the right decisions."

Amelia looked at him skeptically. "You're only interested in the business, aren't you?" she said, standing up from the couch. "You're trying to get close to me so you can manipulate me and get what you want."

James looked at her, pretending to be surprised. "What are you talking about? I just want to help you."

"You don't care about anyone," Amelia said, her voice rising with anger. "You only care about the business, and want to use me for your own benefit."

She advanced towards him, her eyes locked onto his as she continued.

"I want to know if you had anything to do with Andrew's accident," she demanded. She was convinced he had something to do with Andrew's accident. With Andrew out if the way, it would benefit him a lot.

James shook his head, his eyes wide. "I had nothing to do with Andrew's accident. I would never hurt anyone."

Amelia didn't believe him, her anger growing by the second. "I don't think so," she said coldly, turning on her heel and heading for the door.

As she reached the threshold, she paused and looked back at James. "I hope for your sake that you're telling the truth," she said before slamming the door behind her.

Amelia made her way down the stairs of James' apartment building, lost in thought. The dimly lit stairwell only added to the weight of her troubled thoughts.

She couldn't shake the feeling that something was off about Andrew's sudden accident, and the more she thought about it, the more she realized just how many people had motives for wanting him out of the picture.

As she stepped out onto the street, the chilly air hit her like a brick wall, jolting her back to reality. She pulled her coat tighter around herself, trying to shake the feeling of unease that had settled in her stomach.

James, Andrew's business partner, had seemed almost too eager to take over the company since the accident. And then there was Henry, Andrew's own cousin, who had suggested that they run away with his fortune. The very idea made her skin crawl.

Amelia couldn't help but wonder who she could trust in this whole mess. It was a maze of suspicion and deceit, and she didn't even know where to start. All she knew was that she could trust Nanny Grace, Andrew's loyal employee who had been with him for years. And Alexander, Andrew's brother.

From afar, she only saw Andrew as a powerful billionaire. But now that she was married to him, she realized that there was so much more that met the eyes.

Who truly is Andrew Reynolds?
