Chapter 69

The loud celebrations could not help quiet down the thoughts of Charlotte in my mind. Absent-mindedly, I cut the ribbon at Jo’Sidzwe Petroleum company, marking the official merger between two of the greatest petroleum companies in the world.

It was pretty much like any other merger I had ever done and the media was here to capture every second of it. It had been months since the camera flashes followed my every move, and the blinding of the lights reminded me why I had not missed having people watch me.

I escaped back to the hotel, declining the numerous offers by the company’s board to celebrate with them. I was feeling light-headed and feeble which only meant that the effects of my poor eating habits were finally catching up with me.

The last proper meal I had taken was back home on the night before my flight, and every attempt to eat well was fruitless. Tension knots in my stomach had failed to allow it to hold much food, leaving me surviving on gummy bears and whiskey.
