NOVA
I locked the door, and left the house, waving at the security men by the gate as I hurried out. Though Dashiell asked me to let one of them drive me to Mama Kaka's house, I opted to use a taxi. This way, I could walk a little, to exercise before heading over to her house. I had just walked a distance from the house when a red Camaro stopped in front of me. Frowning, I walked past it, humming under my breath. A few steps away from the car, I heard my name. Whirling around, a scowl came over my face when I noticed who it was. Lilith, the bitch. She was leaning on the hood of the red Camaro, twirling the keys in her right index as her gaze levelled on me. I could see the contempt in that stare. She looked like she was sizing me up to know where to start from. "What's it? What are you doing here?" I demanded, surprised to see her close to the house. Was meeting Dashiell in the office not enough for her? "Dashiell sent me to pick you up," she said so casually like this was something we had been doing for weeks. "Dashiell?" I scoffed at that. "There's no way —" “Nova, I sent Lilith to pick you up, so she will take you somewhere. Go with her and don't cause trouble.” The voice came from the recorder in her hand. I froze at the sound. There was no doubt about it. The voice was Dashiell's. Though it sounded deeper, I still recognized it. “Dashiell? When did he call you?” I demanded, fishing for my phone. “Oh, don't bother about that, darling. He switched his phone off.” She faked a yawn as she checked the time on her wristwatch before focusing on me. “If not for Dashiell, do you think I would be here?” She demanded, folding her arms as she gave me a small smile. I could tell she was taunting me, trying to get a rise out of me, but I didn't fall for it. I got my phone out and dialled Dashiell's number. And like she said, he switched it off. “See? Do you think I have all the time in the world to lie to you?” “He said nothing about having you pick me up. He —” “Dashiell changed his mind when he realized he couldn't get to you.” She gestured to the car, mock bowing as she opened the passenger's door. “After you, Mrs James.” Mrs James? I almost scoffed at the name. Dashiell didn't let me take his last name. He asked me to keep my last name, which didn't sit well with me, but I didn't fight him at that. “So?” She lifted her brows, pursing her lips as she stared at me with an amused smile. “Are you going with me or not?” “If I don't, what will you do?” I challenged her. “Not what I will do, but what your dear husband will do.” She straightened. “If you won't come with me, it's okay. I will just —” “I'm coming with you,” I stopped her before she could complete her words. Glaring daggers at the woman I hated the most in the entire world, I got into the car, and she closed it before she walked over to the driver's side. “Do you need me to remind you to put on your seatbelt?” She admonished me. Rolling my eyes, I leaned on the car seat. I didn't want to speak to her, and neither did she. So, we ended up not speaking to each other for the duration of the ride. It wasn't until she parked the car in front of a hospital that I turned to her, puzzled. “Why did you bring me here? Is Mama Kaka okay?” My heart skipped at that as fear gripped me. Mama Kaka was the only one who loved me in the family. The last thing I would want is for something to happen to her. “Not at all. Dashiell asked me to bring you here.” She removed the key from the ignition and she ran her fingers through her perfect hair. “Why?” “You will know when we get to the room,” she replied as she took out her seatbelt and exited the car, walking around to my side. “Let's go, Nova.” “Not until you tell me why you brought me to a hospital instead.” I folded my arms, not ready to budge. “Because….” She leaned in to whisper. “Dashiell is waiting for you there.” I knew I shouldn't have trusted her. She gave me no reason to believe her, but I chose to do that, despite knowing what a serpent she could be. When I got to the room she claimed Dashiell was waiting in, I didn't see him. Instead of my husband, I saw three male doctors. “What's the meaning of this?” I whirled around to confront Lilith, brewing with anger. “Why the fucking hell did you lie about this???” “Oh?” She folded her arms, leaning on the door. “That's the only way to get you up here. Do you think I had that much time to spare babying you?” “OK, let me get this straight. Dashiell asked you to take me here, for what?” I looked around. “This is a freaking hospital, not a place you go to when you choose to. Why will he ask you to bring me here?” “Can't you guess?” She took a step towards me, smirking when my gaze followed her actions. “He wants you to get rid of the baby,” she deadpanned, staring into my eyes.“What?” I frowned, furrowing my brows. “What did you just say?” “What you thought you heard.” She stopped a few paces away from me. “Dashiell wants you to get rid of the baby,” she repeated. “Impossible.” Instinctively, I placed my palms on my belly as I shook my head. “That's the last thing he would ask me to do. He will never ask me to terminate my pregnancy. Never.” “But he did.” She walked forward, closing the distance between us. “That's a lie.” “A lie? Why do you think so?” She looked amused, cocking her head to the side. “I know he never loved me, but Dashiell won't order me to abort the pregnancy. If there's one thing he had always wanted, it was a child.” “But not with you,” she hissed. “What the hell are you talking about?” “I think this will prove some facts to you, Nova. Your dearest husband gave his consent.” She brought a piece of paper out from her bag and waved it in my face. “What?” I snatched the note from her and read through it, my eyes widening the mor
DASHIELL I checked the time on my wristwatch, worried. Nova should have been there an hour ago, but she was nowhere to be found. I tried her cellphone, but she switched it off. I even called the house to find out if she was still at home, but was told she left this morning at exactly 9 AM. So, where the fuck did she go to? I paced the floor, troubled as different thoughts went through my mind. I had always been a strong man and prided myself on thoughts of how calm and composed I was in times like this, but at the moment, I couldn't help the fear that gripped me.What if she had met with misfortune on the road and lost the baby? According to the men at home, she left the house alone, without letting any of them drive her. I didn't think it odd because she always took a taxi or had my driver take her to my office. However, it had been bloody hours since she left, and no one was yet to know where she went. “Dash,” Lilith called out as she strode into my office, smiling. She walked o
Five years later BELLA“Ma'am, these are the lists of new projects,” Clara, my secretary, said, passing her iPad to me. “You can check through them for any change you might need us to implement?” “Uhm. this is good.” I went through them, nodding with smiles at my designs. Who would have thought I would one day have an office of my own, and workers, willing to do my bidding? The icing on the cake? I got to do what I love the most. “What of this?” She pointed to the latest design I worked on before sending it to them. “Do you like the finished product? The production team manager seems to think it doesn't rhyme with your drawings.”“It does.” I peered at the jewellery that had finally come to life from the drawing I gave. “Send three of the products to me for the last designs. I need to go through them before I can carry out a positive judgment. Seeing them on screen isn't the same as off-screen.”“Would you like to visit the production site?” She asked, sounding excited. “We can go
DASHIELLStaring at the wedding picture I kept in my drawer, reminded me of Nova. I was searching for a file I kept on there when I saw it, something I had forgotten I brought to the office after I took it down because of Lilith — she hates seeing the picture on my desk. Sighing, I stared at a smiling Nova. It has been five freaking years since she left me. Five years since she disappeared from the country with no trace. At first, I was pissed with her, blaming her for every misfortune, but gradually, it turned to more. Her disappearance not only made me feel betrayed, but it left a hole in my heart. I couldn't tell what it was. Was it anger, or something else entirely? “Darling!” Lilith called out in that shrill voice of hers that always annoyed me.Startled, I placed the picture back in the drawer, before I looked up, forcing a smile so she wouldn't notice what I just did. “What's it?” I stood up from my chair and walked over to her, still smiling. My cheeks hurt from the exerti
"I still don't get you, Dash. Why do you always have something to say whenever I ask you about this? you are always promising me things each time, but you haven't fulfilled them!" She accused me. "Them? What promises did I make that I didn't fulfil?" I frowned, wondering what she was talking about. I couldn't recall ever making promises to her without fulfilling them. I always did."You promised to marry me, Dash. You gave me your words five years ago, but haven't fulfilled any!" "That's —" “Is it because of that bitch??? Are you still thinking about her even after she left with another man??? Is that why we haven't tied the knot? Do you think she would return after all these years?" “Nova has nothing to do with this.” I rubbed my left cheek. “There are things we need to consider. You know I'm still married to her by law. Unless we divorce, my family wouldn't see you as the main wife. You will always be a mistress to them." I tried to make her understand that I was only doing th
NOVA I didn't know I would meet him this fast. I expected the meeting to happen a week, or even a month after my return, but it happened this fast. It hadn't even been up to 48 hours since I arrived, and I had seen him. Seeing him in the audience gave me different emotions, ones that took a lot of time to conceal. If there was one thing I learned during my five years abroad, it was how to keep my face devoid of any thoughts. I had just concluded my speech and had gone into my private box when he appeared. The last man I wanted to see in the entire world. With Dashiell standing in front of me, it reminded me of the ugly incident that happened five years ago, when he sent Lilith to force me to get rid of my babies. “Nova,” he called out, taking hurried steps towards me.Dashiel hasn't changed that much. He still looked as handsome as he did, five years ago, reminding me of the time I was madly in love with him. Watching him, my heart soared at the sight of my ex-husband in a tailore
DASHIELLMy face clouded in anger at his words, as I took a step towards him, glaring at the idiot that thought to speak. "Who the hell are you to speak to me in that manner?" I demanded."Brion Marshall," he deadpanned, waiting for my face to dawn in recognition, and it did. Brion Marshall owns one of the most famous jewellery companies in the United States. Of course, I know him. He was the man I was to partner with on an upcoming project. "Ring a bell?" he demanded, taking more steps towards me. "I don't care who you are, or who the fuck you think you are, Mr Dashiell James, just get the fuck away from my girlfriend." "Your girlfriend?" I scoffed, regaining from the initial shock I got at the mention of his name. "She's my bloody wife, and we are married. I will advise you to remove your claws from what doesn't belong to you. Because she's mine! Touching her is courting death.” "Yours?" Nova stepped in, glaring as she took his hand in hers, further infuriating me. "I'm not a pr
NOVA “Bloody bastard!” I gritted out, fuming with rage. Stomping over to my car, I kicked the tyre a good number of times before BRION rushed over to stop me. “You need to calm down,” he whispered, his tone soothing as he patted my hair. “He's not worth it.” “I know he's not! I just wish to strangle him alive!” I growled, imagining how pleased I would be, the thrill that would envelop me as I watched him struggle for breath under me. Furthermore, I wouldn't kill him easily. That would be too merciful for him. Letting him feel the pain I went through, five years ago was my plan for him. “Don't worry, you will have enough time to do that,” Brion said, coaxingly. He had always been like this, constantly having my back through every breakdown. With teary eyes, I turned and hugged him tight, not letting go. Brion was my light. The little ray I found at the end of the tunnel. Without him, I doubt I would have made it out alive that year. Lilith would have caught up with me. And had s
