An escape

“What?” I frowned, furrowing my brows. “What did you just say?”

“What you thought you heard.” She stopped a few paces away from me. “Dashiell wants you to get rid of the baby,” she repeated.

“Impossible.” Instinctively, I placed my palms on my belly as I shook my head. “That's the last thing he would ask me to do. He will never ask me to terminate my pregnancy. Never.”

“But he did.” She walked forward, closing the distance between us.

“That's a lie.”

“A lie? Why do you think so?” She looked amused, cocking her head to the side.

“I know he never loved me, but Dashiell won't order me to abort the pregnancy. If there's one thing he had always wanted, it was a child.”

“But not with you,” she hissed.

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“I think this will prove some facts to you, Nova. Your dearest husband gave his consent.” She brought a piece of paper out from her bag and waved it in my face.

“What?” I snatched the note from her and read through it, my eyes widening the mor
