Chapter Three
As I stood in front of the sleek glass, I felt a sense of intimidation wash over me. Elijah was insanely rich. I didn't need a soothsayer to tell me.
I took a deep breath and walked over to the receptionist in front of me. “ Hi, good morning”, I greeted her, trying to hide my uneasiness.
“Hi, can I help you?” she asked, her eyes still fixed on the computer in front of her. Rude.
“Yeah, I'm here to see Elijah Ryker…I mean Tyler. Elijah Tyler”. And there I just spoiled any chance of looking confident in from of this receptionist who seemed to be a bitch.
“Do you have an appointment?” She asked, finally looking at me. She eyed me, a look of disgust spread across her face. I also got a full look at her. She was quite beautiful.
She was gorgeous. A Victoria secret model kind of gorgeous.
“No, I don't. But I really need to see him” I hesitated.
“You can't see him. You have to have an appointment to see Mr Elijah Ryker”. She said his name like he was a god.
‘He's a god in bed’. I quickly shut the voice in my head.
“I know, but this is urgent…please” I pleaded.
She gave me another of her disgusted looks before finally picking up the phone. “Your name?”
“Maya” I answered quickly. “Tell him Maya from the club. Three weeks ago” I said in a rush again. The receptionist gave me a look before finally speaking on the phone.
“Maya, the chick from the club” she spoke into the phone. She paused to listen to what the other person said on the line.
“Yes sir” she said, much more softly than she had spoken to me…almost like in a flirtatious way.
Was Elijah fucking her?
I looked at her, waiting for her feedback. What if Elijah was already married?, I thought to myself.
After a few seconds, she finally looked at me, “I'm afraid Marcus is busy. He doesn't want to see you”
I felt a sting of pain at her words. “But I need to see him. Please, it's very important”, I tried to beg.
“I'm afraid your request is not possible. You need to leave” she said, going back to her computer.
I sighed defeatedly. What was I expecting? For Elijah to rush out of his office and welcome me with wide arms? Of course, he was a billionaire and girls like me didn't deserve a second of his attention. I was just the girl who offered to give him her body like a wh*re.
I was just his wh*re. His careless pregnant wh*re.
I turned to leave, my head bowed slightly in shame.
“And don't you dare come back here. Elijah is my man” the receptionist said, her eyes glaring daggers at me. Of course, Elijah was the type to have affairs with his employees.
I stopped at a nearby café and sat down at a table, hoping to collect my thoughts. I was alone, devastated. There was no one I could turn to now.
I looked behind me, wary of my environment. Even two years after the incident, I was still always watching my back for the next person that would attempt to kill me. The text I got made it five times worse. They were close, I could feel it.
“I'll just get an abortion” I muttered to myself, a tone of determination in my voice.
I pulled out my phone and booked an appointment at the nearest hospital.
The next day, I pulled into the hospital, feeling a sense of trepidation wash over me. Was I doing the right thing? No. But did I have any choice? Yes. But this was the safest and most sensible option.
“Hi, love. I'm Nurse Tiana. I'll be in charge of you today”
“Hi” I tried to match her energy, but my voice only came out shakily.
The middle-aged woman looked at me kindly. “Don't worry, you'll be fine. I promise”
“I_I’m not sure if I want to do this” I sobbed, the tears staining my cheeks.
“Hey, hey. You don't have to do it. There's always another option.”
“No, you don't understand. I can't be a mother to this child. I can't bring a child to this world when I know I can't give him/her the love they need. I'm a bad person, Tiana.”
“No matter how bad you are, no matter what you did in the past, you can't be a bad mother, dear” she wiped my tears. “Check yourself…would you ever watch your child starve? Would you ever inflict any pain on that baby purposely? That's what defines a mother. Not your past, darling.”
“No. I would never”, I hiccuped.
“Then that's your answer. So what's your decision?”
“I'll terminate the pregnancy” I said…even though I felt foolish. I would never intentionally hurt my child. That's why I wouldn't bring it to this world. People were after my life, I had no sustainable roof over me or income. I had no protection whatsoever. I would be wicked if I considered keeping the child.
“If that's what you think is right, that's fine too. Only you know what's best for your child. Come with me”. She said, her smile still kind.
I nodded, following her into the exam room. As I walked, I couldn't help but think about Elijah. Did he know why I went there? Was the receptionist truly his girlfriend? Am I sure this wasn't even all just a dream?
I could not imagine how Tiffany would react to the news of me finally getting rid of the child... I had only told her I was coming to tell Elijah about my pregnancy. I hadn't told her about this.
I was beginning to go insane. Now, my decision felt right. I needed to get rid of this pregnancy. I could never really mother this child. I was too wrecked to be a mother.
The nurse handed me a gown, and asked me to change. Just as I was about to lie on the bed, I heard the door open. Expecting the doctor in charge to walk in, I looked up to greet him, but my jaw dropped.
In front of me stood the man who put me in this ridiculous hospital gown. His eyes glared at me, his hand
folded in a tight fist.
“What the hell do you think you're doing, Maya?” Elijah growled at me. The sound of my name sounded like a symphony of pleasures in my ears.
“Elijah?”
Chapter Four “Wh_what are you doing here?” I stood up from the bed. My legs went weak, almost making me slump. The nurse quickly rushed to me, her hand wrapping around my shoulder.“You were about to abort my baby?” Elijah growled, the anger written clearly on his face.“I_ I wasn't… I was about…”I didn't know why I was stuttering, but I couldn't just find the right words to say.“Pick up your bag. We're leaving”, he said, before leaving me in the room to dress up.I walked out of the exam room, my eyes scanning the reception area. I saw him standing close to the door, his hands in his pockets. He looked angry but yet handsome…just like he did that night. I walked over to him, my head cleared.“How did you know I was here?” I asked, my eyes struggled to look at his dark ones.“That's not the issue. You're not getting rid of this pregnancy” he glared at him, his voice cold. I hated how he talked to me, I hated how he looked at me…like that night meant nothing to him. Did he not get h

Maya, you're marrying a guy you barely know?” She said, her lips set into a frown.I forced a smile, looking up at her. “ I'm fine, Tee. I know it doesn't seem that way, but really, this is what is best. Elijah is what is best for me”“I don't know, Maya. I just don't feel good about this marriage. Why is he in such a rush? You've known the guy..for like three weeks? Minus the two weeks he was actually absent in your life” she said, refusing to see my point.“I know it seems crazy and unbelievable, but we're in love… I just know it, Tee. You didn't know it would happen”, she tried to reassure me. “Come here” she dragged me to my bed, sitting me down.“What's your plan now?” Tiffany asked, her gaze soft on mine.“I don't know. I can't keep a baby. I can't even fend for myself” “I know, Maya. But you should know I'm here to support you. I'm here for you, girl. You don't have to get rid of it”“It's not just about the money.
