Chapter 96

"The ruler can always change the rules." Jaxson whispered to me as he brought his lips to my ear.

I was speechless at what he said because I couldn't believe that he was thinking about that. Because that only means that he is also considering keeping me on his side. It only means one thing to me, Jaxson is starting to see my presence.

"So... are you now going to treat me normally again after I cleared things up?" He asked with a raised eyebrow.

I couldn't stop laughing because of what he said.

Is it a good thing that he's actually paying attention to me more than I thought he is?

"Can I at least get an answer?" Jaxson asked again that's why I just nodded as I chuckled. "It's a good thing that we understand each other. After all, you will be living with me starting from now. And there's no way that I'm going to sleep on the sofa again."

"I never told you to do that." I defend myself. "I didn't know you were sleeping on the sofa. I always wake up later than you so I really have no idea.”

"Well, now you know I'm not gonna do it again after getting your concern." Jaxson said before lowering his back again and lying down. Its eyes lifted to the star as if it were observing them.

"You are much better than I thought you are." I muttered as I also began to lay on the couch and do the same way as Jaxson.

I admit that I was wrong in what I thought about him, and in fact, he is better than what I though he is.

"You think you know me? I don't think so, Cattleya. There's so much more to me than what you think you see."

I didn't say a word anymore, instead I just let out a sigh. It is normal that we don't get to know the entirety of the person even if we stay with them for years. As people say, we lie even in our own diary sometimes. But for as long as I know that Jaxson won't do such things, I think I will be okay.

I was shocked when Jaxson's body slightly rested on mine, which is why my eyes widened. I felt his hand go to the back of my head. I feel like my veins are going to burst with the tension I feel.

"Relax, I'm just going to let you use my arm." Jaxson whispered softly and then I felt him gently rest my head on his arm and use it as a pillow. "We're going back here tomorrow."

"You don't mean in this position... right?"

I heard Jackson chuckle.

"I'm not that kind of man."

"Shut up." I slash his words. "You have been kissing me a lot these days and it's not even in our contract."

He abruptly coughed as if he might have choked on his own saliva, that's why I laughed at his reaction.

“— See? You know what you're doing." I jokingly tormented him with a soft blow to his side.

"Can't you at least filter your words?" He said in a high tone while still not finished with his cough.

"It's the truth. You are almost even acting like my real husband right now. Look how sweet you are to me and make my heart-” I came to a halt when I realized the words that came out of my mouth.

My hand quickly flew to my mouth and then quickly got up from lying down. I picked up my phone and then ran away from Jaxson.

"Why are you running? Hey! Cat!”

I heard him shouting for me but I didn't look at him and just kept running away from the balcony.

I pinched myself out of annoyance to be aware of what came out of my mouth as I bit my lips hard.

You are going crazy, Cattleya! You are insane! What did you just say there!?

“Hey, Cat! Where are you going?” I heard Loren calling me because I kept walking and passed them.

I think I can't handle sleeping and staying in a room with only Jaxson because I'll die of so much embarrassment.

I continued to quickly go down the stairs. Maybe it's better that I spend the night in the apartment first.

"Mrs. Madrigal.” The men, both wearing black uniforms, shouted at the same time.

I assume they are Marigal guards that's why I continued in a car parked in front of the hotel we are staying at now. I don't know if the guests noticed my departure but if so I'll just say that I'm tired and I need to rest to cover my own stupidity.

I told the driver that my destination was already inside the car and then started leaning my back against the car.

"I am so crazy..." I whispered to myself.

I was too carried away by my emotions that's why those words came out of my mouth without me realizing it. How can I control myself if Jaxson makes me feel like that.

I was distracted when my phone rang.

I took a deep breath while closing my eyes tightly before answering the call on my phone.

"Hello?"

I waited for the voice on the other line as I nibbled my lips.

[“Cattleya!”]

I quickly moved the phone away from my ear when I heard Jaxson's loud voice.

[“-Are you running away from me!?”]

"What!?" I quickly answered him. "No! I-It's not like that. I-It's just uhm…” I don't know how to respond to what Jaxson said. In that case, the situation that is running in his mind is different compared to mine.

"Don't tell me that after marrying me today, you are just gonna run away from me like that-"

“Jaxon. No." I cut him off because there was obvious disappointment and concern in his voice on the other line. "I am not going anywhere farther than you can reach. In fact, I am riding a car that your family owns so how can I really do that?”

"Then why did you just run away from me?" He asked as I noticed that his voice was still slightly breathless. Maybe it ran down the stairs from the venue like me.

"It's just... I don't know." I cupped my forehead with my palm because I am lost of words to say. "Maybe I'll just stay in our house tonight. You know, I'm going to miss it." I just told him.

That part is not a lie because I really thought about going to our unit to get some things that I would need and then say goodbye. Because I might not have time to get back there.

I'll just spend the night there.

"Don't worry. I'll go back to that hotel tomorrow-” I couldn't finish what I was going to say when he hung up on me.

I couldn't believe it because I didn't expect him to do that. My eyes were left staring at my phone as I let out a deep breath.

Maybe Jaxson didn't understand the reason why I suddenly ran away from him earlier. It was better that he didn't notice the words that came out of my mouth because they were nothing but shame.

When the car stopped, my eyes moved to the outside of the window.

I noticed that the lights were off and there were obviously no people in the apartment right now. Because Uncle Joe still hasn't come home and they are still left at the reception.

The driver got out first and turned to open the door for me. He doesn't need to do this anymore but I guess I need to get used to this being how they treat me in a year.

"Thank you. You can leave me here now and go back.” I said respectfully while my eyes were on the pouch I was carrying. Good thing I still haven't returned the extra key I borrowed from Uncle Joe.

"Are you sure, Mrs. Madrigal? Should I call security to stay outside until tomorrow? It looks like you will be the only one here that will spend the night. It can get a little dangerous.”

I smiled at him while shaking my head. "No, thank you. I'll be fine."

After that I headed to the apartment to finally rest in a place where I knew no one would disturb my rest. Unless my mother suddenly comes home.

I made sure the door was double locked when I entered the unit because the driver was right that I was the only one and it is very dangerous especially in our time where crime is rampant.

I immediately jumped into my bed to rest. I know my day will be long again tomorrow when I wake up.

It's strange that just now I was so tired, but now it was as if my sleepiness suddenly disappeared and left my eyes staring at the ceiling of the room.

I couldn't help but think back to what Jaxson had said earlier. He really seems in love to me. I mean, the gleam in his eyes is different. And the way he talks to me very calmly and sweetly, Jaxson can easily fool me that he already fell in love.

A sweet smile drew on my lips that almost reached my ears.

I shook my head vigorously as I pulled the blanket to cover my neck.

"What am I thinking? I'm really going crazy. Maybe Jaxson was really hit by the alcohol he drank, that's why he treated me like that." I tried to convince myself. "But, really, the way he always wants to kiss me... Aaaaah." I shook my head again, thumping my feet. "What is happening to me. I even beat the teen ager.”

I tilted my body and tried to sleep. What is running in my mind is not right.

I flinched when a doorbell suddenly rang that's why I got up. I haven't been able to rest yet and here and again I will be interrupted from my rest.

I slowly walked out of my room and then headed for the door. I first looked at the person to see who it was because it might be a bad mood and something bad might happen to me.

"Jaxson?" I muttered as I quickly opened the door. "What are you doing here?"

"Shouldn't your almost like a real husband, join you tonight?"

My lips parted in shock of the words he just let out.

"Here, I brought you some foods because I know that you haven't eaten yet and it will be impossible for you to go to sleep if your stsomach is empty."

I was stunned by what he was doing. Jaxson is standing in front of my doorstep, carrying a bag of food on both his hands, with his face all smiling and looking directly at me. Doesn't he know that because of him I can't sleep and it's not because I am hungry.

"What are you staring at? Is your almost like a real husband making your heart flutter again?
