Chapter Forty

Eve fell to the floor on her knees and felt a sharp pain in her chest. She tried to get up but fell flat on the floor with her back and she went blank. Dane and Henry exchanged glances and quickly ran to her. Both men were beside her on bended knees.

"What just happened?" asked a confused Henry. Sweats were beginning to line up on his forehead. "Why did she collapse?"

"I don't know what happened to her....I was just reading the contract to her and then she went to her knees..... I think she just passed out." Stammered Dane.

"Passed out? What do you mean by passed out Dane? Wasn't she fine a while ago?" Henry demanded in a tone that proved he was getting terrified.

He bent over and placed his left ear on Eve's chest to hear the sound of her heartbeat. "I can feel her heart beating," he announced. "She's alive."
