Chapter 5: Marry Me
Sofia's POVI was just sitting on the sofa in the living room, watching a movie. Despite being calm, I couldn't explain the strange feeling I had. I never expected to see that in that room, and I still can't forget it. How could I forget such a scene, right? Oh God. Why did this happen to me?I took a deep breath and tried to focus on what I was watching. However, I was interrupted when I heard a rustle behind me, so I turned around. My lips sealed in shock. It was her, the woman he was having intimate relations with. She looked at me with disapproval. Well, it seems I ruined their moment.I didn't mean to. How would I know they were doing that over there? She rolled her eyes at me before finally leaving. She's got some attitude, huh?I just shrugged. I was about to go back to watching when my eyes caught something—a handsome, topless man. I couldn't help but admire his well-built body.I swallowed slowly. This guy has an amazing physique. I heard him clear his throat, so I quickly looked away. Come on, Sofia, avoid being foolish. He went to the kitchen, but after a few seconds, he returned. He had a glass of water with him. I noticed that he was wearing a black shirt now.I found myself completely drawn to his attractive face. I shook my head and swallowed hard. Calm down, Sofia. I whispered to myself.I didn't expect what he did next. He sat beside me, and my eyes widened as I looked at him. What is he doing?"You must be Miss Sanders," he said casually. I blinked once, unable to say something. When he sensed my silence, he looked at me."Well?" I quickly nodded."Yes, I'm Sofia Sanders." He nodded."Very well. Are you aware of why you're here?" he asked.I found myself staring at his face again. He was so perfect—handsome, well-built, and charming."Miss Sanders? Are you listening to me?" His question brought me back to reality.I smiled broadly, "Yes, I'm listening. But what were you saying again?" I wanted to cover my mouth after saying that. Damn, Sofia. Listening but not knowing what he was saying? How many times will I embarrass myself in front of him?Slowly, both corners of his lips began to rise. It seems like my foolishness amuses him. I feel like I want to slap myself now."I'm asking you if you know what will happen?" he said. I blinked; I thought he was the one who would tell me the situation. All I knew was that I was used as payment for my Aunt's debt.I shook my head, "Mr. Wu didn't tell me. He said you would be the one to explain," I replied. He nodded, placed the glass on the table, and leaned back on the couch. "I see. Listen carefully," he said. I nodded. He looked at me, and I could see the coldness in his eyes.Handsome, but so distant. I smirked at my own thoughts."Do you have something to say?" I immediately smiled at him. Did he hear what I whispered?"Nothing, nothing. Go ahead," he nodded."I know that you already know one of the reasons why you're here. It's because of your Aunt's debt to me. Since you're the one named in the contract, you're the one I'll collect from," I sneered at what I heard.Already mistreated, and now used as payment for a debt. What kind of life do I have?"Yes, I know. So let's be frank here. What do I need to do to pay off my Aunt's debt that was imposed on me? As you can see, I'm not wealthy, so it's unlikely I can pay the thirty million she borrowed," I said seriously."I'm aware. So, I'll give you a deal now that I know you can't refuse," I raised an eyebrow at what I heard."After this, you're free. No debt, no worries." My eyes widened slightly. What could he possibly mean by "after this"? Don't tell me...No, I won't agree to be his fuck buddy. I'm not that kind of woman. I quickly covered my body with my hand.He raised an eyebrow, "It's not what you're thinking. I don't need your body. I can have as many women as I want," I rolled my eyes. Damn confident, man.I slowly removed my hand from my chest. All right, given the fact that he's handsome, he probably can get any woman he wants. The perk of being a handsome man, huh?"So, what's the deal?" I asked."You have two things to do." I raised an eyebrow."What are those?""First, to pay off the debt, you'll work as my assistant," he replied.Oh, he's a businessman then. I thought he was a mafia boss based on his way of speaking and looking at me. I admit, he's intimidating."I see. What about the second one?" I asked. At least the first thing he mentioned doesn't involve selling me. In a way, he gave me a job, though without a salary, since I have a debt to pay.He looked directly into my eyes. Why do I feel like what he's about to say isn't good? Don't tell me he's really going to sell me.I patiently waited for what he was going to say. Why is it taking so long?"The second one is..." He even added some suspense to it.Okay? What's the second one? My eyes squinted, waiting for what he was going to say."You will marry me," he completed. My jaw dropped.Chapter 6: A DealSofia's POVDid I hear it right? Am I going to marry him? I looked at him in confusion. Why would he marry a poor girl like me? He looked rich, handsome and powerful. As he said a while ago, he can get any girl he likes. So why me? Something doesn't seem right here. What could he possibly gain from marrying me? I have nothing to offer him. Oh, wait, I do have something—the care, love, and beauty that I possess. I smiled to myself. Here I go again, super confident.I looked at him again, "You mean, marriage? Why? I mean, I'm beautiful, but I don't think that's enough reason for you to propose marriage to me," I confidently said. Damn, I'm daydreaming again. He looked at me intently. Wait, he didn't disagree that I'm beautiful. Does that mean he finds me attractive? It seems like this guy fancies me."So, what's the reason?" I asked again when he still didn't speak."I just need to get married, that's it. No other reason," he answered seriously.I raised an eyebrow, "
Chapter 7: The Wedding "Miss Sanders, the wedding will start in two minutes," a woman said to me. I nodded and gave a small smile.Everything happened so quickly. It feels like just yesterday when all of this happened. I never imagined I'd be getting married today.Although it's not my dream wedding, I wish my parents were still alive to see this."Mother, Father, your only child is getting married now," I whispered, biting my inner lip to hold back tears. I miss them terribly.I lost myself for a moment. Why am I crying? I shouldn't be; it'll ruin my makeup."Sofia Sanders?" I heard a gentle voice beside me. A blonde girl is standing there.I raised an eyebrow. Who is she? She's not the same woman who informed me earlier."Yes, it's me," I confirmed. She nodded, "I'm Christy, your bridesmaid," she introduced herself.Look how absurd this marriage is. I don't even know my own bridesmaid. I didn't invite any relatives; I didn't want my aunt and cousin to attend. Because of them, this
Chapter 8: Marcus Sterling Sofia's POVWhen I wake up in the morning, my head hurts so much. Damn, hangover. I yawned and stretched out my arms. What time is it? Why does the sunray burn my skin? As I looked around, I suddenly froze. Hmm? Why am I here in my room? I thought I slept on the couch last night? My brow furrowed as I recalled yesterday.Yesterday... Oh, right yesterday I got married. And my husband-- husband in contract, left me alone here with some blonde girl. Then, I got drunk. I pursed my lips. I'm a married woman now.I shrugged off and did my morning routines. A couple of hours later, I found myself walking downstairs. I'm starving, I need to get some food to feed my dragons in my stomach. When I arrived in the dining room, I found him there. He's sitting on his chair like a king on his throne. My eyebrows rise, and a smirk is playing on my lips.He probably had fun last night. "Good morning," I greeted him. He didn't look at me instead he told me to sit down and hav
Chapter 9: Privacy Sofia's POV"Who are you? This is the first time I've seen you here?" Obviously, because I just got here. I took a deep breath, stood upright, and confidently looked at them. I didn't want them to belittle me on my first day of work.I lost my job last time because of a crazy customer. I remember that incident again. It's making my blood boil. "I'm Sofia Sanders, Mr. Marcus Sterling's assistant," I confidently said. They both stared in disbelief. It seemed like they couldn't believe it."You're his new assistant?" I nodded."How? We didn't see you yesterday when they had an interview," I raised an eyebrow. Obviously, I didn't attend. Because he's the one who hired me."He hired me," I said honestly. They exchanged glances, then laughed."This girl is hallucinating things. Mr. Sterling doesn't just hire anyone as you said. You either graduated from a prestigious university or academy, or... you have connections," the other one said with a smirk.Yes, I do have a co
Chapter 10: TalkSofia's POVA few weeks had passed, and I rarely saw him inside the office because he's always outside attending different meetings. I thought I would join him in those meetings, but Marcus said he'd only need me when it is necessary. As a result, I often found myself alone in his office. It wasn't a problem for me; in fact, it was a favor since, despite being loud, I value my privacy. At home, he seldom comes back. Sometimes, I don't even wait for him because it gets too late. But a few days ago, I saw him with a blonde. I was slightly confused, but then I remembered my role. Oh, right, I'm just his wife on paper. We made an agreement about having an affair secretly. But I never thought he'd take it seriously. It's Monday today, which means I have work again. I walked slowly towards Rita. Marcus is not around again today; he's been gone for two days due to an out-of-town business meeting."Good morning, Rita!" I greeted her. She looked up and paused what she was doin
Chapter 11: Small ArgumentSofia’s POV“We need to talk,” My brow furrowed upon hearing that. Why do we need to talk? Is there something wrong? I nodded as I approached him.“Sure, but talk about what?” I asked. He let out a sigh like he’s calming himself. Why is he calming himself?“You broke the deal,” I immediately looked at him. What? I did not break anything. What is he talking about?“I don’t understand.” He’s playing ‘guess what I’m referring’ to again. “You went out,” So? Of course, I need to go out. What does he want? I will stay here or on the mansion all day and night?“What if the media saw you and your man?” My brow furrowed. Media? Me and my man? Oh, he’s talking about Jasper. So, he saw us. No one saw us. And besides, I doubt if someone can remember me being his wife.I shook my head, “There’s no media around. And there’s no big deal about it. You’re the one who always leaves with different woman. So, don’t ask me about this matter.” He glared at me.What? I glared bac
Chapter 12: Childhood FriendSofia’s POVMy eyes were so red when I woke up the next morning. I can’t believe him last night. Oh God, they did the deeds multiple times and it hurts my damn ears. They did not even bother to tone down their moans, groans, whatsoever. That’s absolutely and terribly gross.I walked downstairs while frowning. Good thing I don’t have work today. When I reached the dining room, I saw him having his breakfast already. I was wondering if he or they eat the food I made last night. I sighed and rolled my eyes.I did not greet him and sat down immediately. I know he noticed the sudden change of my behavior. And I’m also aware the he knew the reason. How bold they are last night. Just thinking of it making me want to throw up.It’s not like that I expect something from him. I know his not a saint to not do something like that. He can do whatever he wants, whatever he pleased.“I’m leaving today,” I told him and started digging on my food. He looked up, seems unbot
Chapter 13: Doomed Sofia's POVShe blinked several times. "Are you serious about what you're saying?" She said in disbelief. I nodded. "I'm telling the truth. This is what happened. Aside from Marcus and I. You're the only one who will know about this. And if others find out, you'll be in trouble," I warned.Se nodded and curiously approached me. "Yes, no one else will know. Just tell me!" She said."Aunt Matilda owed him money. I was used as payment." Her eyes widened slightly."That's a crazy old woman. But why did you agree with what she wanted?""Because of two things. First, I didn't want to stay in their house. And second--" Maria cut me off."Because Marcus is handsome, right?" She said with a smirk. I slapped her arms lightly, "Fool. I didn't know him back then. And how would I know he's handsome? Marrying him is not bad after all."This time, she's the one who slapped me on the shoulder. "Are you a dumb? Who wouldn't want to marry him? He has all the qualities that women des
