Chapter 005 Drug Test

Third Person's Point of View

Yumi angrily turned off her phone due to the flood of calls and messages from people close to her.

"Oh? Why did you turn it off? Why don’t you face them and ask your best friend instead of taking your anger out on me!" Gabrielle, the man with her, said pointedly.

Instead of replying, she just sneered. She didn't know what to say; she wasn't sure if she should believe him, but she knew deep down that the man in front of her had no reason to lie.

"I'm tired. Can you take me to the nearest hotel?" Yumi asked weakly.

"No."

"What do you want? Should I sleep here in your car? Can't you see I’m not comfortable in my dress and position? Why don’t you just drive? Okay, fine, forget it! You stay here; I'll walk to the hotel! Jeez, you're so difficult to talk to." Yumi was about to get out of the car when Gabrielle grabbed her hand.

"Are you really not thinking? Do you see yourself as an ordinary person? Haven’t you considered that if one person sees you out there, you'll be trending and talked about online? I saved you from embarrassment, and now you're putting yourself in danger. If that's what you want, then go ahead and leave, but don’t come back. Do whatever you want; who am I to help you!" Gabrielle let go of her hand angrily.

Yumi didn't insist on leaving. She realized he was right, so she leaned back and massaged her temples. She didn’t know what to feel anymore—whom to blame or whom to be angry at.

Gabrielle was quietly thinking. He knew it would cause a huge mess if his family found out he had taken his brother's fiancée. He wasn’t sure why he did it, but he knew he didn’t want her to be humiliated and deeply hurt if she witnessed what was happening at the engagement party with Jerome and Yumi.

Ever since Gabrielle found out about the foolishness and betrayal of Yumi's best friend and his brother, he felt obliged to protect her. Something inside him told him to shield her from the harm that Yumi's beloved might cause.

Gabrielle shook his head when he saw that Yumi had fallen asleep.

At first, Yumi was furious when Gabrielle carried her like a sack of rice. When Yumi saw the viral video of her and Gabrielle, her anger doubled. Gabrielle just calmed her down and let her cry. He saw the pain she was feeling. She kept saying that she and Jerome couldn’t break up, that Jerome was the one she was supposed to marry.

Yumi woke up on a soft bed, looking around and noticing she wasn’t in her own room.

While figuring out where she was, she suddenly remembered everything. She cried, realizing she had lost her parents for the second time. More than that, she thought about losing her boyfriend, the man she thought she would be with forever.

Gabrielle rushed in when he heard Yumi scream.

"W-what happened to you?"

"You! It’s all your fault. If you hadn't been with me that night, Jerome wouldn’t have broken up with me. Why were you in that room, and why did you take advantage of me?!" Yumi shouted, pointing at him with tears in her eyes.

"Hold on! Why are you mad at me? I didn’t even know it was you I was kissing that night! Didn’t you see the video? You came into the room to kiss me. So if anything happened between us, I’m sure you wanted it!" Gabrielle shouted back. He didn’t intend to say all that, but Yumi had gone too far. Gabrielle was frustrated that Yumi couldn’t think straight and instead was looking for someone to blame. He wondered why it hadn’t crossed Yumi’s mind that they might have been drugged to do such a thing and that they were both victims of the situation.

"No! I couldn’t have done that. I wouldn’t betray Jerome. I love him so much," Yumi tearfully argued back.

"Calm down. Don’t let your emotions take over because that’s why you’re blind to what’s happening around you. Don’t trust what you see too much!" Gabrielle scolded Yumi like a child. "Here, get up and fix yourself. Nothing will change if you just cry. Let’s go out to eat and talk properly."

Gabrielle was right. Yumi was very obedient and naive. Her parents raised her to follow orders without question. Yumi was so naive.

Yumi shyly came out of the room. "How are you? Does it fit?" Gabrielle started.

Yumi was embarrassed, tugging at the dress that was too short, ending above her knees.

"It’s fine! It looks good on you. Don’t think about your problems for now. Eat first." Gabrielle pulled out a chair for her.

Yumi looked puzzled but had no one else to turn to. The public eye was hot on her, especially those in the news industry. She knew they would ask her for a statement.

"Call your manager after you eat. Tell them you're fine and not to worry. Say you’re taking a vacation. We need to work together to find out what happened that night. You need to do a drug test!"
