Chapter 006 Island

Eumerriah's Point of View

"What?! Is what you're saying true?" my manager asked repeatedly.

I told her everything Gabrielle had said to me. Even though I didn't want to believe it, something inside me told me there was some truth to what he said.

"Okay, I'll call someone I know to discreetly conduct a drug test on you. I'll call you when you can come in. Be careful wherever you are; don't show yourself to anyone just yet." I could sense the panic in my manager, Kim. I also told her not to tell anyone else, not even my best friend. I knew she was curious, but I couldn't explain everything to her just yet because I wasn't sure myself.

"What? Do I need to take you back to Manila?" Gabrielle suddenly appeared.

"Huh? Why, where are we?" I looked out the window and saw only the sea, trees, and grass. "Where are we?" I asked, puzzled.

"We're at a resort I own. It hasn't opened yet, so there aren't any people around. I couldn't think of a safer place to bring you. You're too hot a topic in Manila right now. Don't worry, you're safe here," he said while arranging the fruits he had brought.

"Where did you get those?" I asked, suddenly craving them. I quickly reached for a small unripe mango, picking the smallest one because it looked the sourest. "Wa- wash it first!" He quickly snatched it from me and washed it under the faucet nearby. I almost bit his hand. I pouted like a child because I didn't get what I wanted.

"Wait a moment! I'll peel it for you." He pointed to the chair in front of me. He was treating me like a child. It was annoying, but I couldn't complain because he owned the fruits and I was just asking for them.

"There! Eat slowly, or you might get indigestion. What dipping sauce do you want?" he asked.

"Vinegar!" I answered happily, which made him wince. "Are you crazy? That mango is already sour, and you want an even sourer dipping sauce? You might throw up," he commented while walking away from me.

I couldn't find any sauces in the small kitchen. There were no soy sauce or even sugar. There was some salt, but I didn't want that. I don't like salty foods. One of the things I dislike is salty foods. A moment later, I saw him coming up with a bowl of white sauce. I smiled, thinking it was vinegar. I was so happy!

"If you weren't pregnant..." I heard his quiet comment. Who? Me, pregnant? Since when?

"Hey! What did you say?" I asked him while chewing my food.

"Nothing! I said it seems like you don't care that your parents disowned you! After crying and throwing a fit last night, you slept like a log. Now you're all happy. Are you bipolar?" He was frowning while asking me that. Did he think I looked crazy? Damn!

"I don't know about you! You're ruining my morning. Take your mango and drink your vinegar until you turn white all over! Damn!" I angrily threw the mango on the table. The vinegar in the bowl splashed because of the table's movement. I knew it was bad to waste food, but I couldn't help but get annoyed by what he said. Did he really think I looked crazy?

But he was right. Even though I knew my parents had disowned me, I didn't feel hurt at all. Honestly, it's not that I'm an ungrateful daughter, but I feel lighter thinking that no one will command my every move, no one will stop me from doing what I want in my life. I feel like I'm finally becoming my own person.

"Hey! Do you know I climbed that tree over there and got bitten by ants just to get that mango? And now you're just going to throw it away? Is that how only children are? Spoiled brats!" I heard him shout from upstairs.

I went down the stairs to get some fresh air under the shade of a coconut tree. I'd rather stay here while I'm still irritated by his face. He thinks I'm pregnant and craving, then calls me a spoiled brat!

Yes, I'm an only child, but Mom and Dad are not my real parents. When I was young, they died in a car accident. No one identified who hit them, causing them to fall off a cliff, so they haven't received justice to this day.

One of the reasons I chose to become famous worldwide using Daddy's surname is to give them justice.

"Hi!" A sweet voice came from behind me as I was deep in thought under the shade.

I waved at her as she approached me. "I knew it was you! I often see you on TV. Just last night, your video with my brother Gabrielle went viral. Sorry about what happened to you. How are you?" she said, smiling as she sat down, looking out at the sea.

I lowered my head in embarrassment, knowing she had seen that video. "Don't be shy. I believe in my brother. I'm sure you didn't want that to happen, but people these days, right? Imagine, they said you planned for that video to come out because you wanted more fame and attention." This time, she was looking at me.

"I'm sorry, I've said too much. I'm Kate. We treat each other like siblings, but I'm not his sister. I'm just adopted by his grandmother, who lives here. Aren't you Eumerriah?" She extended her hand to me.

Kate was very gentle. Her kindness was evident in the way she spoke softly. She had a beautiful, small face, perfectly pretty. I reached out my hand to introduce myself. "You can call me Yumi."
