I dug out my keys from my back pocket and inserted it into the keyhole, turning the key around in there until the door creaked open, and then I pulled down on the doorknob to get the door open. I stepped through the threshold doorway and got into the house, before turning around and staring at Elena who was standing a few feet away from my door, in the direction opposite side, while probably waiting and hoping I’d invite her in.I scoffed a little beneath my breath before lifting my head until I was staring at her, and then I raised my right hand up and waved at her a little.“Bye Elena, and thanks for the coffee offer.” I said to her and reached for the handle of my door, starting to tug it into place almost immediately.“It still stands, the offer still stands, and you wouldn’t be a bother.” She called out to me in reply and I nodded my head once at her, my cheeks lifting in a fake and little smile which hurts a little, right before I finally shut the door in her face, cutting i
Nate’s POV I stared blankly at the television as the images in it did their thing with smiles on their faces while I was here, trying hard not to give in the the urge to break down, that had been boiling in my chest since the very start of the day– and that urge had unfortunately only increased, after what had happened in my father’s conference room, which had led me into storming out before I could even blink. I dragged in a deep breath and puffed it out slowly, throwing my head back so it was resting on the back of the couch and humming a song beneath my breath, in order to calm my emotions down and dilute that urge to break down.Because? I know myself very well, and I know the fact that if I was to ever end up breaking down today and letting all my overwhelmed emotions get the best of me, that it was going to end up being a disaster, because for one, I had ulcers which means I couldn’t cry on an empty stomach, seeing as our crying muscles and retching muscles are connected
Nate’s POV I pulled the door open after confirming who it was and took a step backwards for Avery to come in, and he took a long look at me before shaking his head and walking past me, straight into my kitchen with his head heavy with two plastic bags which looked really heavy and filled up. Trust Avery to go all out and buy out the whole store for me, all because he really hates the fact that I haven’t eaten anything today, and that my excuse had been because there wasn’t any kind of food. I pushed the door into place and locked it before making my way into the kitchen and I leaned against the wall beside the entrance of the kitchen, while watching him offload the plastic bags, bringing out ingredients and more good ingredients from the bags and lining them up on the counter.“You didn’t have to go to this much trouble, a few stuffs would have been fine.” I started to say after a few moments had passed in silence and the only things making any kind of sounds here in the kitchen
Nate’s POV I drained the water from the cooked spaghetti while Avery sliced onion on the other end of the counter. I poured the drained water into the sink and opened the tap water, so the cold water can mix with the hot spaghetti water as it all slides down the drain. I poured the spaghetti back into the pot and covered it, before placing it back on the stove and putting it on a really low steam. The pot for the sauce was already placed on the other face of the cooker, it was a four faced cooker and a lot of things can be prepared on it at once, I poured some oil into the pot once it had completely dried up, and it started to sizzle immediately, making a low popping echoed around the kitchen. I squeezed my eyes shut when the scent from the onions which Avery was still slicing, started to penetrate into my eyes, causing it to sting a little.Avery walked towards the pot of oil with the slicked onions, and I took a couple of steps back in order to make the scent not get int
Nate’s POV Avery and I were both sitting on the longest three seaters couch in the sitting room and there was a little amount of space left between us. The television was still turned on and some music video was currently playing on it, but I had reduced the volume a lot, so it was way too low for me to make out what was being sang from the television. I moved my hands above my thighs and breathed out a small sigh, as I shifted on my spot on the couch and raised my second hand up, in order to card my fingers through my hair.My stomach was starting to churn and I quietly prayed that the food which I had eaten some time ago, wouldn’t come back up through my mouth in the form of vomit.“So, Avery?” I called out while staring at Avery from the corner of my eyes and I watched as he glanced up from his phone which he had been tapping away on, to turn his head slightly around until he was staring at me.“Yeah?” He asked after a moment.“I’ve been meaning to ask and I kind of forgot
Nate’s POV “She’s so damn beautiful, I mean, super beautiful.” He continued to speak and I watched as a dreamy expression took over his face at that moment, which made me sticker at him a little, and he gave me the finger in return, without missing a beat. “Should I even be talking to you about this? After all that’s happening with you and whoever his name is, since you’ve refused to share his name with me again.” Avery mused out and I turned my head around to stare at him pointedly, with my eyes narrowed at him.“What do you mean by ‘should you even be talking to me about this?” I demanded with a small scowl as I pushed myself off the couch backrest until I was sitting upright, before I continued. “I shouldn’t hinder you from talking about your lovelife, especially when it makes you obviously happy. It’s not like I’m heartbroken, and that the idea of knowing my best friend in love is going to hurt me… because that’s not how it works. I’m not heartbroken, and heck? Even if I
Nate’s POV “How did it even happen?” Avery asked as he fell into my bed and flopped on it a little. After a few seconds, he was pushing himself into a sitting position and grabbing on one of the pillows on the bed to pull into himself and wrap his arms around. I was still standing in the middle of the room when he had decided to ask that question, and although I knew exactly what he was talking about, I still decided to play dumb because I most definitely wasn’t looking forward to having that conversation with him tonight.I walked towards my closet and start to pull out a pair of sweats which I was going to be lending Avery to sleep in tonight. Avery and I had once been really close thst even to this extent whereby we do not see each other as frequently as we used to do before, the friendship bond between us was still a lot strong and each time we end up seeing each other in person again, it always seem like we haven’t seen in ages because that vibe is still always there, tha
Nate’s POV It’s been a few days since I went to my dad’s company, it’s been three days since I last saw my best friend, after he came over here to spend the night with me, it’s been three days since I left the house… I felt almost depressed. It felt like I was slowly sinking into a deep hole of sadness, depression and over-thinking, making me feel more sadder, less motivated to do a damn thing or even bother leaving the house to get a damn thing done. I had some things to do at the office, some files to sort out and other stuff, but then, that would have to be put on wait because I was avoiding my dad’s company as well.I haven’t bothered to pick up my father’s call since the day when I had walked out of the conference room, as soon as the woman who I was supposed to get married to, arrived along with her father and brother.I knew he was undoubtedly going to be even more disappointed in me, he’d probably feel the most disappointment in me than he had ever felt for me before. M
Nate’s POV I got out of the car and slammed the door shut, right before I locked it with my key and did a 360 as I started to make my way out of the garage, heading straight for the main building of the house. Talking to my mother was a lot stressful and I feel so drained at the moment, it doesn’t matter that it’s been over three months since we spoke last, she made sure to spend over an hour with me on the phone today, and majority of the time which she had spent talking to me, was used in discussing about my supposed birthday and whatever it is that I wanted for my birthday.I made my way into the elevator and leaned against the wall as it started to limb up the floors, and then I decided to check what the time says after a few seconds, it was currently some minutes before it gets to two p.m in the after and I allowed a small sigh to fall past my lips in the next second, once again, I had successfully managed to starve myself today seeing as I haven’t had a thing to eat since t
Nate’s POV “Oh, you remember my birthday this year?” I asked almost immediately and I heard her voice huff a little in my ear before she started to speak.“Of course I do.” She replied instantly.“Well, you forgot it last time, and didn’t even remember until after one good week.” I reminded her as I started to slow down, seeing as I was almost home, and I paused the car at the front of the big gates, knowing the gates were going to get pulled open by the security men after about a minute. “Aw, come on Nate, it was that one time, and I got too swamped with work during those times, which was why I forgot.” She started to argue and I rolled my eyes a little as I drove my car through the now opened gates, straight into the garage.“Doesn’t make it hurt any less though, I hope you won’t end up forgetting this year’s own because of your work…” I said to her in a low and flat voice as I turned off the car engine and pulled the key out of the keyhole.“I didn’t mean to forget it that
Nate’s POV I made my way into my car and got into it after accepting my keys from the security, for security reasons, it was a rule for every cars that come into the company’s premises to submit their car keys to the security men, to avoid a situation where someone with a bad intentions can come into the company to do quickly do something and hope to get out as easier as that. I dropped the file which I had retrieved from my office into the spot on the other side of the car seat and I started the car instantly. My kind drifted backwards a little as I started to drive out of the compound really slowly, and before I completely drive out of the compound, I noticed that my dads car, as well as Eric’s were still here, which made me start to think that it was like they were still upstairs in dad’s office at the moment, and I scoffed at the thought a little as I drove out or the compound completely, into the busy roads in a fleeting moment.Today was the first time I was exchanging m
Nate’s POV Once I was done there, I tugged out my handkerchief from the inside of my suit jacket pocket and used it to wipe my face softly, lightly dabbing against my eyes that looked a little bit swollen at the moment. I heard the main restroom door start to get pushed open and I turned my head around instantly, locking eyes with a set of familiar eyes in the next second.“Nathaniel? How have you been?” Lucaa asked as he made his way into the restroom and pushed the door closed behind himself. I inserted my handkerchief into my pocket and hoped that it wouldn’t be obvious that I had been almost having a breakdown when I had made my way into here, as I turned around to stare at him. I forced a smile onto my face as I started to speak.“How–” He didn’t even give me a chance to speak before he was cutting into my words, as he closed the distance between us and started to speak.“What’s wrong, Nathaniel?” He asked in a small voice as he stared down at me with concern at the edges
I remained silent after that and after a little while had passed and I had started to feel my anger almost completely melted away, I turned back around and started to head back towards the table, where my dad and Eric were currently sitting and discussing quietly, and they were going through some kind of files as if we didn’t literally just all got into a fight eith the two of them being on the same side and completely disagreeing with me, like it had always been shive I was little, and that was how it still was today. Both men’s heads turned around to stare at me when I finally made my way towards the table and both didn’t bother to say a thing as well, as soon as I arrived towards the table, perhaps they were expecting me to sit back down into the chair that I had vacated when I had gotten unto my feet and or something, I was most definitely sure that they got really shocked when I grabbed my phone which I had placed oh my dad’s desk and inserted it into my pocket. I stared pointedl
My father dragged his hands over his face and said nothing after that, while Eric and I still remained silent, both staring down at my dad.“Aren’t you going to go ahead and apologize to him?” Eric asked from my side and I ignored him but it was at that partic moment that my ears had chosen to start to ring in such a way that was also affecting the insides of my head as well. I lifted my hand up and started using it in tapping against my ear as also using my fingers to massage the side of my head above my right ear as well.I was still trying to make my anger reduce when Eric started to speak again in a low voice. “Fucking apologize to your father, you spoilt–” I turned around before he could complete his sentence and grabbed his shirt collar eith both hands, and I tugged him forward until we were pressed lightly against each other and were both staring into each other’s faces. I faintly registered the fact that my father has also flew up to his feet instantly and had started to hasti
Nate’s POV “Nate, I don’t want you to take this personal –” He started to say but I turned sideways to stare at him as I started to breath out in a low voice.“Shut up, Eric.” I growled at him but he didn’t look like he was barely dazed by my words and only paused for a moment before starting to speak once again.“I really hope that you see sense from what I said to you instead of taking it personal.” He breathed out and I pushed out a small chuckle that wasn't funny one bit to my ears one bit as I started to speak. “Shut the fuck up.”“You’re still not getting what I was trying to say, this was exactly what I meant when I said –” He started to say once again but I shook my head and cut into what he was saying.“No, Eric, shut up. Just shut up, shut the hell up this instant.” I said to him in a low whisper, and of course, my father was going to choose that moment to interfere.“Nathaniel!” He said in a loud voice and I dragged my gaze off Eric’s face to turn back around until
Nate’s POV “Do we honestly have to do this?” I asked my father in an exasperated tone as I shook my head at him a little. He didn’t even bother to pretend to be fazed by my movement as he slowly gave a nod of his head, right before he carried on with speaking loudly like I hadn’t just spoken up. It was a Monday morning, three days after I had go over to my dad’s friends house to go have dinner with him and his daughter, Marie, and here I was at my dad’s office on a Monday morning, with my immediate cousin sitting on the second chair beside the one I was currently sitting in, and our eyes were both focused on my dad who was standing on the other side of the table.“So, since they were the ones to come here that time and couldn’t even start the damn meeting because Nsth chooses to ruin it before it even started by walking out on all of us, we’re the ones that are going to go over to their company today in order to go get the contracts signed.” Father continued and I slumped down i
Nate’s POV I made my way out of my car once I had driven into the apartment’s compound and had parked my car in my usual spot in the garage, alongside some other cars. I had two cars here in the garage. It was the rule of the house that you can’t have more than two of your cars parked in here: and so if you’re one of those people that usually own more than that, you’re to find where to put the rest of your cars in, or you can just decide not to rent the apartment to begin with– it’s really as simple as that. I made my way into the lobby and into the elevator as fast as I could. My legs were starting to hurt and my headache had thankfully reduced, which I was thankful about, but then my stomach was starting to churn, and I knew it was because of the fact that I haven’t had dinner this evening yet.I glanced down at my wrist once the elevator had started to move up the floors and saw that it was almost a few minutes before the time moved to past eleven. I carded my fingers th
