Nate’s POV I ran my comb through my hair while staring at my reflection in the mirror before me, in the bathroom, some minutes after I had my bath. I was still in a towel but preferred to comb my hair out after washing it, compared to drying it off with a towel like most people do. Each time I do it the way people do it with a towel, it always ends up having wrinkles and at the end of the day, it would dry off in a way I do not like, but each time I make use of my comb, it always ends up drying off in a way I’d like, without any sort of wrinkles or curls. The only downside about it was the fact that I had to endure the whole water that would drip out until whenever the water in the hair strands would finally stop dripping. My eyes was red rimmed as I took in my facial expression in the mirror and I convinced myself that it was because of the fact that water had got into my hair from the shower I had taken a few minutes ago, and definitely not because I had cried a little befor
Nate’s POV I blasted one of my favorite songs by The Weeknd in my car as I drove out of my apartment’s compound, and through the streets for a few moments before making my way into the busy expressway. I nodded my head along with the beat of the song as I sang along really loudly. I got to know about The Weeknd when I was still in college, on the night where my friends and I had all attended a party of a dude who was really obsessed with him back then. Literally almost all the songs he had played had been The Weeknd’s songs and had fallen in love with every one of them, and the very next day, I had looked him up on my phone and that had been where the whole obsession had started.I could feel my head start to pound a little due to how loud the song currently was but I didn't mind, and I shoved the thought of getting a headache out of my mind the next instant. I was taking my time and wasn’t even rushing in any kind of way, because I wanted to take as much time as possible befo
Nate’s POV I knocked on the door twice, as my lips went into a thin line instantly. A few seconds later and his voice was echoing out, as he asked who it was that was on the other side of the door.I didn’t bother to say a thing and just placed my hand on the door knob, pulling it downwards and making my way into his office slowly. My eyes locked with his almost instantly and I manually puffed out a small relieved breath as soon I had confirmed that he was alone in here and not in here with my cousin, the way it mostly is.“What in heavens are you putting on, Nathaniel?” My father demanded almost immediately, his voice coming out forceful and loud, and I smiled a little at that, glad that I had at least done what I wanted to do when I had decided to wear that. I shrugged my shoulders a little as I made my way further into his office, and he was on his feet in the next instant, slamming his hands into his desk as he got to his feet as if to create extra emphasis. I willed myself
Nate’s POV “What did I ever do for you?” He echoed after me and I gave a jerky nod of my head.“Well I, I sent you to school, the best of schools, even though your grades were always bad, I gave you a very comfortable live, I made sure you were always living fine, put you into the best college, made sure you wouldn’t have to live with roommates because I knew how much you loved being alone, and… growing up, you always had the latest games, the latest gadgets, the latest computer versions, I gave you everything, and I never stopped, because no matter what you do or how you act, you’re still my son.”I lowered my head even before he could complete his list of things that he had done for me, because the whole emotions that had started to slam into me at once were a lot.I lifted my head up after a few moments and began to speak.“Why do you only ever care about material things?” I asked in a calm voice as I slowly lifted my head up until I was staring into his face. It seemed like
Nate’s POV “You’re going to go over to where they live, and the first thing you’re going to do is to apologize to my friend, because I’m sure he felt insulted after you walked out on him without even saying a thing.” My dad explained while staring intently at me and my lips thinned into a small line almost immediately.“Why do I have to apologize? I didn’t do a damn thing to him.” I said to him after a few moments and I watched as he breathed out a small sigh before starting to rearrange the files scattered around on his desk.“Like I said before, it’s because you walked out on him the way you did, it was in a way that was somehow insulting to him. You do know he’s doing us a favor and not the other way round, don’t you?” He pointed out after about a minute and I started to slowly bite on the insides of my cheeks, not knowing what to say in the next moment.“He sounds really self centered though. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to apologize to him.” I informed my dad afte
Nate’s POV I gripped the steering wheel tightly in my hands and squeezed on it, leaning my head against it as I took in deep breaths and trying not to slip into a mood in my head that was really unreal for my life. I shook my head a little and tried to stage off the bad feeling as I tried to get myself back together as well. I was still in the spot where I had parked my car some hours ago when I had driven into my dad’s company, I had just finally left my dad’s office some time ago, finally coming to an end with the said meeting we’ve both been in for long hours.Apparently, he had said he was going to schedule the dinner meeting for tonight, and that I must attend it at all costs. He left me with a lot of warnings and about the fact that nothing must go wrong on my own side tonight. And also about the fact that if I dare to do something’s wrong tonight, that he was going to put my cousin in my place, and that I was going to watch my cousin go get it done at once, and then I’d
Nate’s POV I did my tie up carefully, making sure not to have a wrinkle in it, and I scrunch my nose up a little and scoffed a little as I realized that I had been doing it with a little too much ficus that was necessary. I turned around and reached for my wrist watch on the bed and clicked it on my left wrist after a few seconds. My hair was almost completely dried off and it had managed to dry up in a really good way. I was taking extra care to get ready tonight when I really shouldn’t, because for one, I wasn’t going to the damn dinner because I wanted to, but because I’m being forced and blackmailed into going, or risk losing my inheritance in an instant. I reached down for my suit jacket, putting it on and inserting my arms into both holes almost immediately.Once I was done dressing up, I stood before the floor length mirror in here and took a good look at myself, the suit fitted my body well and made it seem like my shoulders were even more broader than it is on a normal
Nate’s POV I pushed the door of the car open and stepped out almost immediately, cradling the bag holding the bottle of wine and the hunch of flowers in my other hand as I pushed the door close and locked it before pocketing the keys. They had invited me to their home like my father had suggested, and I was feeling a lot of things as I stood beside my car and raked my whole gaze over the whole house, and it was then that I came to the conclusion that I didn’t know who loved a more extravagant life between this man, and my father back at home.Knowing I had wasted more than enough time and also having it at the back of my mind that I had managed to arrive here late, which sure as hell wouldn’t leave a second good impression this time. With a small sigh falling out of my mouth, I started to make my way towards the small row of stairs that would lead me to the entrance of their house that aaa really damn big.I rang the bell once and politely waited, knowing someone was going
Nate’s POV I got out of the car and slammed the door shut, right before I locked it with my key and did a 360 as I started to make my way out of the garage, heading straight for the main building of the house. Talking to my mother was a lot stressful and I feel so drained at the moment, it doesn’t matter that it’s been over three months since we spoke last, she made sure to spend over an hour with me on the phone today, and majority of the time which she had spent talking to me, was used in discussing about my supposed birthday and whatever it is that I wanted for my birthday.I made my way into the elevator and leaned against the wall as it started to limb up the floors, and then I decided to check what the time says after a few seconds, it was currently some minutes before it gets to two p.m in the after and I allowed a small sigh to fall past my lips in the next second, once again, I had successfully managed to starve myself today seeing as I haven’t had a thing to eat since t
Nate’s POV “Oh, you remember my birthday this year?” I asked almost immediately and I heard her voice huff a little in my ear before she started to speak.“Of course I do.” She replied instantly.“Well, you forgot it last time, and didn’t even remember until after one good week.” I reminded her as I started to slow down, seeing as I was almost home, and I paused the car at the front of the big gates, knowing the gates were going to get pulled open by the security men after about a minute. “Aw, come on Nate, it was that one time, and I got too swamped with work during those times, which was why I forgot.” She started to argue and I rolled my eyes a little as I drove my car through the now opened gates, straight into the garage.“Doesn’t make it hurt any less though, I hope you won’t end up forgetting this year’s own because of your work…” I said to her in a low and flat voice as I turned off the car engine and pulled the key out of the keyhole.“I didn’t mean to forget it that
Nate’s POV I made my way into my car and got into it after accepting my keys from the security, for security reasons, it was a rule for every cars that come into the company’s premises to submit their car keys to the security men, to avoid a situation where someone with a bad intentions can come into the company to do quickly do something and hope to get out as easier as that. I dropped the file which I had retrieved from my office into the spot on the other side of the car seat and I started the car instantly. My kind drifted backwards a little as I started to drive out of the compound really slowly, and before I completely drive out of the compound, I noticed that my dads car, as well as Eric’s were still here, which made me start to think that it was like they were still upstairs in dad’s office at the moment, and I scoffed at the thought a little as I drove out or the compound completely, into the busy roads in a fleeting moment.Today was the first time I was exchanging m
Nate’s POV Once I was done there, I tugged out my handkerchief from the inside of my suit jacket pocket and used it to wipe my face softly, lightly dabbing against my eyes that looked a little bit swollen at the moment. I heard the main restroom door start to get pushed open and I turned my head around instantly, locking eyes with a set of familiar eyes in the next second.“Nathaniel? How have you been?” Lucaa asked as he made his way into the restroom and pushed the door closed behind himself. I inserted my handkerchief into my pocket and hoped that it wouldn’t be obvious that I had been almost having a breakdown when I had made my way into here, as I turned around to stare at him. I forced a smile onto my face as I started to speak.“How–” He didn’t even give me a chance to speak before he was cutting into my words, as he closed the distance between us and started to speak.“What’s wrong, Nathaniel?” He asked in a small voice as he stared down at me with concern at the edges
I remained silent after that and after a little while had passed and I had started to feel my anger almost completely melted away, I turned back around and started to head back towards the table, where my dad and Eric were currently sitting and discussing quietly, and they were going through some kind of files as if we didn’t literally just all got into a fight eith the two of them being on the same side and completely disagreeing with me, like it had always been shive I was little, and that was how it still was today. Both men’s heads turned around to stare at me when I finally made my way towards the table and both didn’t bother to say a thing as well, as soon as I arrived towards the table, perhaps they were expecting me to sit back down into the chair that I had vacated when I had gotten unto my feet and or something, I was most definitely sure that they got really shocked when I grabbed my phone which I had placed oh my dad’s desk and inserted it into my pocket. I stared pointedl
My father dragged his hands over his face and said nothing after that, while Eric and I still remained silent, both staring down at my dad.“Aren’t you going to go ahead and apologize to him?” Eric asked from my side and I ignored him but it was at that partic moment that my ears had chosen to start to ring in such a way that was also affecting the insides of my head as well. I lifted my hand up and started using it in tapping against my ear as also using my fingers to massage the side of my head above my right ear as well.I was still trying to make my anger reduce when Eric started to speak again in a low voice. “Fucking apologize to your father, you spoilt–” I turned around before he could complete his sentence and grabbed his shirt collar eith both hands, and I tugged him forward until we were pressed lightly against each other and were both staring into each other’s faces. I faintly registered the fact that my father has also flew up to his feet instantly and had started to hasti
Nate’s POV “Nate, I don’t want you to take this personal –” He started to say but I turned sideways to stare at him as I started to breath out in a low voice.“Shut up, Eric.” I growled at him but he didn’t look like he was barely dazed by my words and only paused for a moment before starting to speak once again.“I really hope that you see sense from what I said to you instead of taking it personal.” He breathed out and I pushed out a small chuckle that wasn't funny one bit to my ears one bit as I started to speak. “Shut the fuck up.”“You’re still not getting what I was trying to say, this was exactly what I meant when I said –” He started to say once again but I shook my head and cut into what he was saying.“No, Eric, shut up. Just shut up, shut the hell up this instant.” I said to him in a low whisper, and of course, my father was going to choose that moment to interfere.“Nathaniel!” He said in a loud voice and I dragged my gaze off Eric’s face to turn back around until
Nate’s POV “Do we honestly have to do this?” I asked my father in an exasperated tone as I shook my head at him a little. He didn’t even bother to pretend to be fazed by my movement as he slowly gave a nod of his head, right before he carried on with speaking loudly like I hadn’t just spoken up. It was a Monday morning, three days after I had go over to my dad’s friends house to go have dinner with him and his daughter, Marie, and here I was at my dad’s office on a Monday morning, with my immediate cousin sitting on the second chair beside the one I was currently sitting in, and our eyes were both focused on my dad who was standing on the other side of the table.“So, since they were the ones to come here that time and couldn’t even start the damn meeting because Nsth chooses to ruin it before it even started by walking out on all of us, we’re the ones that are going to go over to their company today in order to go get the contracts signed.” Father continued and I slumped down i
Nate’s POV I made my way out of my car once I had driven into the apartment’s compound and had parked my car in my usual spot in the garage, alongside some other cars. I had two cars here in the garage. It was the rule of the house that you can’t have more than two of your cars parked in here: and so if you’re one of those people that usually own more than that, you’re to find where to put the rest of your cars in, or you can just decide not to rent the apartment to begin with– it’s really as simple as that. I made my way into the lobby and into the elevator as fast as I could. My legs were starting to hurt and my headache had thankfully reduced, which I was thankful about, but then my stomach was starting to churn, and I knew it was because of the fact that I haven’t had dinner this evening yet.I glanced down at my wrist once the elevator had started to move up the floors and saw that it was almost a few minutes before the time moved to past eleven. I carded my fingers th
