**Anna**

Reflecting on what happened between Adrian and me makes me feel battered and sad. I refuse to accept why a man can be so ruthless and heartless. He pretended to be a good man while flirting with another woman—was this because of our so-called contract marriage? I won’t accept that excuse.

As I stared at the curtains, I realized I hadn’t eaten and my stomach was growling. I acknowledged its emptiness. I’ve run through enough thoughts, suffered countless nightmares, and cried more than I should. I won’t call this a contract marriage anymore; it feels more like a bad captive marriage, and I’ve had enough of feeling downcast.

I headed to the kitchen and was shocked to find it completely empty. I had assumed there would be food, but Adrian devoured everything and left nothing for me. I felt a wave of sadness and embarrassment wash over me.

I opened a drawer and found a pack of noodles. I cooked it and ate it immediately—what choice did I have?

Moments later, a message popped up o

Anna**Seeing Adrian and Isabelle together only deepened my hatred for him, and I sobbed as I realized he had been deceiving me by claiming he was on a business trip. So this was the business trip he had gone on? He had no idea I had uncovered his secret. It then dawned on me that Isabelle was the one who had spread all those rumors about me. I knew she was jealous. Just as I was reflecting on this, I received a message on my phone that left me in shock.****************************************I was having a serious discussion with Sebastian about how much I wished to be in a relationship with him. He took me to one of the expensive restaurants in town, and I was elated because he had come through for me; he had rescued me. As he placed one hand on my neck, I smiled, and he playfully touched my cheek. "Anna, I want you to know that I love you so much, even though I know that Adrian doesn’t love you and doesn’t care about you at all," he said, a warm smile spreading across his fac

AnnaThe atmosphere was almost choking and the silence between us was almost deafening. I weighed so little under his gaze and he wasn’t helping by staring intensely at me. I couldn’t meet his gaze.“You know exactly why we are here,” his intimidating, husky voice came as a shock to me.I knew exactly why we were here but I had no idea this was the man I was meeting. Him, as in Adrian Sinclair! He adjusted his tie, obviously feeling frustrated. He sat up in his seat before stretching his hands out in front of him. “If you are going to stay mute all through the night, I might as well just get up and leave. That would be typical of me, right?”I quickly looked up at his face. I was drowning in the ethereal nature of his eyes. The way his pupils dilated as they met my gaze was obvious but his face quickly masked in an unnerving look. I opened my mouth a few times, I just couldn’t make out the right words to say. I wasn’t exactly ready for this. I had all my life planned out since I w

AdrianThere was something about her—distinct but familiar. I couldn't place a finger on it. The way her eyes seemed to hold words that her lips were not expressing. The way her fingers played with each other, her demeanor lacking confidence. The way her face almost leveled with the floor, barely raising her gaze to mine was a typical day-to-day interaction with ladies for me. She almost seemed the same with other girls—lacking confidence and an elegant aura but she still kind of seemed different. It's complicated. She had seemed put together but uncertain. I don't do uncertain. I have no idea why my grandfather mentioned her name in his will as my wife but in all I know, I needed her for the company. I stared at my reflection through the rearview before ruffling my hair and then grabbed my phone and dialed Isabelle. She picked on the first ring. Just like I had expected. “You do realize it's late, right?” “What are you up to? Are you busy?” “That’s so out of the line for yo

Anna“Do you, Anna Montgomery take Adrian Sinclair as your one and only husband? To be with him and for him till death do you part,” Those were strong words for a contractual marriage. Way too strong for a marriage to be ended after a year. My eyes glistened with tears as I looked up at Adrian through my veil. His face held no emotions, expressionless like his mind was not present here. My mind skipped when his eyes met mine. It was stone hard, glaring at me as though I had just summoned the devil. He had blatantly disagreed to this wedding. “The contract was enough.” were his words but I wanted this. Though this wasn't really a real marriage, I still didn't want it to seem lame like I meant nothing. This was my first marriage and I refuse to not have a wedding. I had no idea if that was why his countenance was stiffened or if it was simply because he didn't want to have anything to do with me! “Go ahead,” the priest said, pulling me out of my reverie. I looked over at my mum

AnnaMy hands trembled and my heart raced—a feeling mixed with anger surging from within me as my eyes transfixed between him and the lady in black. Who happened to be the lady I met in his office the day I signed the contract. Who was she? No, that wasn’t important now. “What are you doing in here?!” his stern eyes looked from my face to the file in my hand. “You shouldn't be holding that!” he rushed to me, yanking the file from my hands. No, I should be asking what she was doing here! I should be saying he shouldn’t be holding her hand! He looked down at the papers, resting his hand on his waist with frustrated look on his face. He sighed before looking up at the lady. “Isabelle. Could you leave, please? I will give you a call,” he said, his voice guttural. “But—” she started but Adrian raised his hand, cutting her off. “Just leave, Bell. I’ll give you a call soon!” he half-yelled. I looked over at ‘Isabelle’ and she shot me a death glare. If looks could kill, I’d be six
