It was a cold night, pitch black and eerily silent. The road was empty, not a living being was seen, let alone a human. The sky was cloudy and even the street lights were flickering every now and then, giving it a creepy feeling. Anybody would have been scared of the spine-chilling atmosphere. It was like living in a graveyard, not a sound was heard nor a shadow was seen. But not for her.
In the freezing night, a lady walked on the streets carrying a whiskey bottle in hand. She was wearing a white, sleeveless, casual dress and her hair was let loose, some stubborn strands falling directly on her face. She stumbled a little as she struggled to walk on the cream-heeled sandals she was wearing. She groaned when she felt her head turning heavy but did not stop with her clumsy movements.
Taking a big gulp of whiskey from the bottle, she bent down and took off her sandals. Tossing them to the side without any care for them, she snorted. She hated them anyway, they were a big pain in the ass.
After staring into space for a few seconds, she continued to walk barefoot on the streets. She did not shiver when the wind blew nor was she scared of the dark. All along she had a sinister smile on her face. Anybody who looked at her at that moment would be mesmerized by the beauty. She looked like a fallen angel, completely helpless and utterly beautiful. However, only she knew how she was feeling within.
She took another gulp from the bottle, but it was already empty. Frowning lightly, she shook the bottle, trying to see if there was some more left. But not a drop fell from it.
'Did I drink all of these?'
She sighed and the next moment, she threw the bottle to the ground heavily. It crashed and broke into pieces. She looked at the shattered fragments and smiled, her expression filled with melancholy. Her heart was also in a similar condition, broken and shattered. A tear fell from her eyes before more droplets followed suit. In no time, she started to cry loudly, her wails echoing through the silent road. But a second later, she started to laugh like a maniac.
She slowly dragged her body, her mind not knowing where she was going. She was drunk, everything looked blurred and her mind and body were not cooperating. She swayed, unable to keep up her balance even though she tried hard to steady herself. She was tired and hopeless. She just wanted to find a place and lay down.
The words she had heard just a few hours ago were reeling in her mind and the dead bodies of her parents flashed in front of her every now and then. For years, she had been trying to find their murderers and now she had gathered a piece of news about them.
Suddenly a black sedan came out of nowhere and stopped right in front of her with a screech. The driver had pressed the breaks at the correct moment, otherwise, she would have been knocked out by it. The woman was deep in her thoughts that she had not noticed the car.
The sudden sound cleared her mind a little. She saw the black sedan and laughed hysterically. She looked like a madwoman, ready to create havoc.
"What happened?" The man sitting at the back asked the driver. He was taking a nap when the sudden halt made him move forward with a force, breaking his sleep effectively.
"Sir, a lady came in front of the car." The driver said calmly. He looked at the woman and cursed at her silently.
'If she wanted to die, she could have chosen some other car. Why did she have to choose this car itself?'
"You... come out." She knocked at the driver's window as she placed her hands on her hips. When he did not give her any face, she knocked again.
"Come out." She slurred.
"Go and take a look." The man instructed from the back. He was getting irritated, he just wanted to go home. However, this damn woman was not leaving him to be.
"Yes sir." The driver opened the door and got off the car. He walked to the woman and did not even look at her.
"What do you want?" He asked coldly.
"What do I want?" The woman tapped her forefinger on her chin and thought for a while.
She gazed at the driver and gave him a smile. Her eyes twinkled and her smile was as sweet as cotton candy. The driver looked at the woman and his heart skipped a beat. She was utterly beautiful, just as the poets would describe. She would definitely be the one the poets and artists would fight for to be their muse. Her innocence and the beguiling beauty could make any man fall to his knees.
"I want whiskey." The woman said after some time.
She poked his shoulders when she did not get his response, which made him come out of his reverie immediately. He shook his head to clear his thoughts.
"What?" In his momentary daze when he was lost admiring her looks, he had tuned out all that the woman had said.
"I want whiskey." She said again, stressing the word whiskey.
The man in the car rolled down the window and stared at the woman, his eyes not moving away from her for a long time. He was getting irritated slowly and he was just short of lashing out at her, or anyone. Unable to bear the woman's madness anymore, he summoned the driver.
"Hurry up." He did not wait for any answer. He just flicked his hand and closed his eyes.
The driver nodded, took out a few bills from his wallet and stuffed them in her hands. The woman stared at the green notes and then looked up to see the driver. By then he had already gotten inside the car and had started the engine.
"You bastard."
The woman ran towards the front before he could drive away, successfully blocking him again.
"Not again." The driver cried. He knew his boss was getting impatient and if he got angry, it would be the end of the woman. His anger knew no bounds.
"Sir, I'll handle her." The driver said, but he was interrupted.
"Wait."
The man got down from the car and walked toward her slowly. Anybody who knew him would know that it was a sign of danger and would run away immediately. His aura was terrifying and he looked deadly. His brows were scrunched together in rage.
However, she was not anybody. She stood rooted in her grounds and stared at him, astonished to find such a handsome man on such a terrifying night. He was handsome, no denial in that. His looks could put the gods to shame. She was currently muddle-headed, so she did not know that she was inviting her own doom. She was so engrossed in admiring his features that she didn't realize that he was prowling towards her like a hunter.
The man approached her and without saying a word, he dragged her towards the side. His grip on her was quite strong and she cried out in pain immediately.
"Let go of me." She yelled.
The man was silent. As soon as he released her, she slapped him hard on his face. The loud noise was like a gunshot in the soundless street. The man's eyes squinted dangerously in fury, he was reaching his limit. The woman had successfully managed to infuriate him.
The driver was shocked, his jaw dropped and his eyes widened. Never in his entire life had he seen anybody behave this recklessly in front of his boss.
"I am not for sale."
The woman stuffed the money back into his hands and walked away, flicking back her hair. She did not care about the consequences of the slap nor about the person she had annoyed. She did not know that a pair of eyes were observing her every move as she walked away.
By now, she had sobered up a little. She could make out where she was. After half an hour, she reached her home. Without even changing out of her dress, she plopped on the bed. Maybe due to the exhaustion or the alcohol content in the body, she felt her head spinning and drowsy. She fell asleep immediately. But before falling into a deep sleep, she muttered, making a promise to herself to avenge her parents death.
"I will get my revenge."
Twenty years back.It was a bright sunny morning. It had rained heavily the previous night, coating the garden with the droplets of rainwater. The bright sunlight and the wet plants in the garden looked nothing less than a beautiful meadow, mesmerizing one's eyes. On this beautiful morning, a little girl was still sleeping in her room on her soft bed. She looked around five to six years of age. The bright light was prevented from entering the room by the light purple curtains, casting slight darkness in the room. The door opened and a lady in her late thirties walked in. She smiled looking at the little girl sleeping soundly, without any care in the world. Without making much noise, she sat on the bed and swept the girl's bangs away and kissed her forehead."Wakey, wakey. Good morning, princess." She whispered. It sounded exceptionally soft and gentle, tickling one's heart. The girl rolled onto her left and sighed, yet she did not wake up. Looking at the girl's
Blood, there was blood everywhere, on her hands, her shirt, and even on the floor. It was horrifying and looked vicious. She focused her eyes on the two dead people as she called out to them. However, they did not respond. They merely stared at her, their body lifeless and cold. The woman on the bed woke up screaming. She was so terrified of the nightmare that she was shivering and her clothes had become damp due to sweat. She was sobbing hysterically and every now and then she would cry out. "Mom, Dad."She looked at her now clean hands, but she could still see her parents' blood on them just like the day twenty years back. She could still remember the day her parents were killed although she was only six years old at that time. Their death had been engraved in her mind such that she could still recount the details like it happened just yesterday. For seven months since their deaths, she had nightmares of that horrible night almost every day. Only she knew how
There was pin-drop silence in the class. Melanie was teaching trigonometry to the students and it being a difficult subject, the students were listening with grave concentration. It was not easy to teach high school mathematics, but it was a walk in the garden for Melanie. She knew the art of teaching as well as how to hold her students' concentration. So, her disciples adored her and her class would have a hundred percent attendance in every sitting. Also, she was very friendly and easy-going with them, making her easily approachable compared to the other teachers. There were still ten minutes for the class to end, but she dismissed them early."Okay, class. I will return your graded answer sheets tomorrow. I am sorry for the delay." She gave them a smile."Miss Parker, it is alright. We will wait for you. Are you fine now?" One of the students on the first bench enquired."Why do you ask?" Melanie asked as she picked up her notes."We heard that
The call kept ringing until it disconnected automatically. This happened a few more times before the woman got tired and threw her phone in anger. The screen cracked as it fell on the floor."That bitch." She shouted, her eyes blazing in fury."Calm down Claudia. I am sure she is busy." The man beside her stated and sipped his coffee calmly. He did not care much about the call being not picked up."Ted, that idiot is not picking up our calls. How can you expect me to be calm? Do you have any idea how annoyed I am right now?" Claudia shrieked. Ted closed his eyes irritated by her outburst. He was getting a headache due to her nonstop ranting. The woman who looked sweet and alluring dressed in the finest of clothes even when she was indoors would become a pyshco and behave like a madwoman when she was irked. Her character completely contradicted her attire.'Someone please remind me why was I even attracted to her?' He asked himself and blamed himself for b
When Lexi was fantasizing about Adrian, the man in question was sitting in his office, going through the documents he had received just then. It was a complete report of Ted Sander. It had details regarding his work, his business, family, friends, and all other possible information. He looked at his assistant, who was standing beside him and gave him a nod of appreciation.Adrian took his phone and sent a message to Ted: Let the game begin. It had taken him a long time to hunt down Ted. After finding out that he was in Vlei, he had entered the city with only one aim in mind. Revenge."Boss, now what do we do?" His assistant, Steve Warren, asked him. Steve had been his assistant since the day he had started his business. Steve was diligent, trustworthy and most importantly, loyal. He was also his only friend in the world
Steve cursed, wailed, tapped his laptop, shook it and tried restarting it again. But in vain. It was dead, his opponent had released a virus as a counter-attack and now his laptop was gone, like all the other times. This was the fifth time and it was getting on his nerves. The person was strong, he had to give credit."Still not able to crack it?" A voice spoke beside him, startling him. He was almost scared to death by the unexpected attack. He patted his heart to calm himself."Is it necessary to sneak up on me? You scared me." Steve complained, narrowing his eyes."How am I at fault if you get scared due to any slightest noise? Scaredy cat.""I am not a scaredy-cat.""Yes, and I am not Adrian." Adrian sassed and walked away from Steve, not waiting for him."Hey, wait for me." Steve dropped his laptop on the desk and ran behind him. But Adrian did not slow down. Instead, he walked faster. It took some time for Steve to match his steps."Where are we going?""Don't know.""What?"Adr
The bell rang for the last time that day and the class ended. Melanie gave her usual speech before ending the class and left the room. Her work was over for the day.But she still had a date with Jacob. After a long time, she was going on a date willingly without anybody forcing her like the previous ones she had been to. She was looking forward to it subconsciously.Melanie went to the staff room. All her colleagues were already in there, packing their bags and ready to leave. Her friend, Kate was waiting for her beside her desk."So?" She started, seeing Melanie pack her bag."So?" Melanie shrugged."What's going on between you and Coach Smith?""There's nothing going on between us.""Are you sure?" Kate narrowed her eyebrows. She knew there was something going on between the two of them. But she was not sure if it was mutual or one-sided. She could however see the way Jacob looked at her, his eyes deep and mesmerizing. She was not an English teacher just for fun. She knew how to re
Like a happy kid, Melanie walked forward looking around her, while Jacob followed her. He looked at their intertwined hands and smiled like a fool. He realized that Melanie had not noticed it. But who was he to point it out to her when he wanted to hold her hand forever? Melanie took in the huge arcade, her eyes sparkling at the games in there. She had always found this place to be heaven since childhood. But after her parents' demise, she had not stepped into one. This was one of the famous arcades in the country and many people came here to play. Right now there were quite a few kids and teenagers busy in a game battle with their groups. "Come. Let's go and buy our passes." Jacob said, pulling her towards the counter. It was only then that she realize that they were holding hands. She immediately tried to free her hand. But Jacob was having none of it. Instead, he held her hand firmly and walked beside her. "We don't want you losing in the ocean of people, do we?" He asked smirkin
