Chapter 2

Author: Dream Traveler
Liam emphasized the word 'outsider'. If it weren't for his precious son, he wouldn't have known that Victor wasn't actually part of the Quinn family by blood.

But in the three years since Victor left, even Liam hadn't expected just how important Victor had been. Not only did he maintain connections with many family leaders, but the moment top-tier families learned Victor was no longer with the Quinns, they had canceled their partnerships one after another.

As a result, the Quinn family had declined over those years, and now the family's elders and shareholders were all hoping for Victor's return.

"I'm begging you," Victor said. "Unfreeze my card. I don't want to completely fall out with the family over money. You should know that if I get serious, I absolutely have the ability to do so."

"Damn it!"

-

Bang!

Liam slammed his phone against the table. After hanging up, he sat in his chair, his expression gloomy.

He was the current head of the Quinn family. He had investigated Victor's situation and knew that for the past three years, he had been treated as nothing more than a joke. He was a complete failure.

But Liam also knew that Victor had once been the most mysterious genius in the business world. With just five million of his own salary, he had grown it into twenty billion in only three years.

It was an absurd feat.

If the matter of Victor's bloodline hadn't been discovered, he would have secured his position as the head of the Quinn family. Under his leadership, the Quinn family might have even risen to become the number one family in the city.

Yet now, a business genius coveted by top-tier families had openly declared that he would go against the family if necessary. How could Liam not take that seriously?

Liam evaluated Victor's current connections and estimated that his chances of pulling it off were at least forty percent. In the end, he picked up the phone.

"Amy, go to the bank now and unfreeze that twenty-billion-dollar account."

-

Ten minutes later, a notification from the bank popped up on Victor's phone, confirming that his twenty billion dollars had officially been unfrozen.

"I really didn't want to do this," he muttered.

Victor stared at the text message. He had mixed emotions.

The Quinn family had raised him and educated him for twenty years. Almost everything he had was given to him by them. Although they had ultimately cast him aside, Victor had never once thought of taking revenge.

But this time, because of Sophie, Victor had no choice but to call Liam and threaten him to get his money back. That money had originally been meant to repay the family's kindness.

Victor rang the bank, informing them that he would be withdrawing three million in cash within thirty minutes.

The bank, upon hearing this, was thrilled and insisted on giving him VIP treatment, hoping he would entrust them with managing his funds.

Victor declined, stating that he wouldn't be investing the money for the time being.

He simply wanted to quietly give the money to Sophie, as he had done in the past. He would solve her problems without making a fuss.

'At this point, I must be one of Northlake City's wealthiest men, right?'

Just as he was thinking that—

Honk, honk, honk!

A Volkswagen came speeding toward him.

Although Victor dodged quickly, the car still clipped him, sending him rolling across the pavement.

The car pulled over, and a stunning young woman in a white blouse and short skirt stepped out of the car.

"Such bad luck!" she complained. "A top-tier VIP client is coming to the bank, and on my way back, I run into some scammer trying to stage an accident!"

She checked the damage to her vehicle with a pained expression, then glanced at Victor, who was sprawled on the ground. Pulling out her wallet, she casually tossed three hundred dollars at him.

"I'll just take the loss! Here's three hundred bucks. It's more than enough to cover the cost of your lousy scooter. If you're not satisfied, go ahead and call the cops!"

"Maya?" Victor was stunned as he looked at her. It was none other than his old college classmate, Maya Howard.

"Victor?" Maya also recognized him. She took one look at his cheap clothes and the battered electric scooter he was riding, and immediately frowned. "No way. You've sunk this low? You're actually running scams now?"

"I was just distracted." Victor scratched his head awkwardly. Technically, the minor accident was partially his fault. "I'll cover your repair costs," he said.

Maya scoffed. "No need. I'm in a hurry to get back to the bank to welcome a billionaire client. If I can land him, I might just give you this car as a hand-me-down. Oh, and he's also a Quinn, but unfortunately, you're from completely different worlds."

Maya instantly dismissed any lingering connection to Victor. If he was so broke that he had to ride a scooter and fake accidents, he had no business having any ideas about her.

"I have things to do," she said. "Got to go. Here's five hundred dollars. Let's just call it a farewell gift from an old classmate."

With that, she drove off in her Volkswagen.

"The billionaire Quinn she's talking about wouldn't happen to be me, right?" Victor let out a dry chuckle.

When he checked his scooter, he realized it was broken. It wouldn't start.

Although he was incredibly wealthy now, this scooter had been his companion for three years. He was attached to it. So, instead of calling a car, he pushed it along the road toward the bank.

A ten-minute ride turned into an hour-long walk.

When he finally arrived at the bank, he was greeted by a massive red banner at the entrance.

"A Warm Welcome to Our VIP Client, Mr. Quinn!"

'So it really is me?'

Victor was dumbfounded.

At that moment, standing at the bank's entrance was a stunning young woman in a white blouse and short skirt. She looked as elegant as a celebrity.

The moment she saw Victor, she froze.

It was Maya.

Seeing him pushing his electric scooter toward the bank, Maya immediately scowled.

"Victor, I already gave you the money. Why are you still bothering me?"

"Uhh." Victor hesitated. "I'm here to withdraw money."

"You? Coming to a bank to withdraw money?" Maya frowned.

If it were just a small amount, he could've used an ATM. But after a moment's thought, she decided to show some generosity for the sake of old times.

"Fine, I'll handle it for you. Just take your cash and leave."

At that moment, a voice interrupted them from behind.

"Maya, why do you keep letting these lowlifes into the bank? Move along! Don't block the entrance!"

A well-dressed man in glasses walked over. His name tag read 'Manager, Justin Grant'.

He had pursued Maya before, but she had rejected him. Ever since, he had made things difficult for her at work. Now, he sneered at her before turning to Victor.

"Hurry up and move that junk out of the way! Don't ruin the bank's image!"

Then, as if to emphasize his point, Justin strode over and kicked over Victor's scooter.

Watching his scooter get knocked down, Victor's temper flared instantly. Without hesitation, he pulled out his Premium Gold Card.

"You've got to be kidding me. Call your boss, Mr. Luther, out here! I'd like to ask him what kind of bank treats a billionaire client like this!"

When Victor pulled out the Premium Gold Card, Justin trembled all over. Beside him, Maya was also stunned. She held her breath. The Premium Gold Card was an exclusive privilege reserved for clients with deposits exceeding 10 billion. Such individuals were either top-tier tycoons or members of prestigious families, VIPs whom even Frank Luther, the bank's president, would personally welcome with a smile.Justin quickly recovered from his shock and sneered. "Pulling out a fake card to show off?"It wasn't surprising. Victor was dressed poorly and had arrived on a battered electric scooter. How could someone like him possibly own a Premium Gold Card? Was it a fake card?Victor chuckled and gave Justin a cold look. "Are you blind? You call yourself a manager? You can't even recognize a real Premium Gold Card!"Justin adjusted his glasses and nodded mockingly. "It does look pretty convincing. Clenching his jaw, Justin forced an awkward smile and walked over to the electric scooter. He bent down and bowed. "I'm sorry! Kicking you earlier was my fault. Please forgive me!"The electric scooter of course didn't respond. Justin stood beside it awkwardly."Mr. Quinn, what do you think?" Frank asked with an ingratiating smile."All right, just get my money. I've got other things to do," Victor said. He waved Justin off, unwilling to press the matter further. He had more important things to deal with."Got it!" Seeing that Victor seemed somewhat appeased, Frank quickly called Maya over. "What are you standing there for? Hurry up and assist Mr. Quinn!""Yes, of course!" Maya finally snapped out of her shock and walked over to Victor with a sweet smile. "Mr. Quinn, please follow me."Soon, the three million was ready, packed into two bags for Victor. When they came out, Justin was still standing beside the electric scooter.Victor ignored him, got on the electric scooter,

So much money was laid out before them that it made their eyes blur."Where did you get this money? Did you beg for it or something?" Lena was so startled that she couldn't stay seated.Sophie was equally shocked. After checking the bills, she confirmed they were real."Victor, be honest. Where did all this money come from?" Sophie's expression was stern as she looked at Victor."It's all mine," Victor muttered.Hearing that, Lena burst out laughing. "Quit joking! Your money? Besides the thirty thousand you got from the Jensens for marrying in and the monthly allowance Sophie gives you, where else would you have money from?"Victor replied honestly, "I still have twenty billion."He was telling the truth. His card did indeed hold a balance of twenty billion, but Lena and Sophie didn't believe him."Twenty billion? You really think you're some big shot, huh?" Lena sneered and looked at Victor with disdain. "If you really had twenty billion, I'd strip down on the spot and let you

Unfortunately, Ryan was overthinking things.Maya wasn't someone who had never seen the world. On the contrary, she was a very materialistic woman.Ryan might seem like a good catch, but could he compare to Victor? Forget about this single Silk Haven store. Every Silk Haven store in Clearwater City combined still couldn't match Victor's wealth.Choosing between them wasn't even a question."Can you stop being so annoying? You keep chattering around me. Isn't that woman with you?" Maya finally lost her patience. She seemed irritated. She snuck a glance at Victor, but he showed no reaction. She was a little disappointed."Miss, as the outlet manager here at Silk Haven, it's only natural that I serve my customers." Ryan's face darkened slightly at Maya's harsh words, but he still forced a smile.'Damn woman! Just wait until I get my hands on you! I'll make sure you regret this!' Ryan thought darkly. At that moment, Maya's gaze was drawn to a silver dress. The dress was exquisitel

The room instantly fell silent.Anyone who dared to step into Silk Haven to buy clothes was of a certain status. Naturally, they recognized the Premium Gold Card and understood its significance.Ryan was startled and muttered, "How could this guy possibly have a Premium Gold Card? It has to be a fake card, right?"The machine beeped, indicating the transaction had been approved."Sir, here is your card." The sales associate respectfully handed the Premium Gold Card back to Victor with both hands. The payment going through had proven beyond doubt that the card was real and Victor really had that kind of money."All right, apologize. I'm listening," Victor said. He looked at Sabrina as he took his card back from the sales associate.Sabrina's face turned red and pale in succession. She simply couldn't bring herself to apologize to Victor. However, under the watchful eyes of the crowd, she had no choice. Clenching her jaw, she muttered, "I'm sorry.""Louder.""I'm sorry!"Victo

A strikingly dressed waitress walked over. The moment she saw Shawn's expensive outfit, she kept throwing seductive glances at him.Shawn chuckled, and as he took the bill, he didn't forget to give the waitress a slap on the ass. When he saw the bill, his smile grew even brighter.A total of over six hundred thousand. Even for him, it was painful to fork out that much. But for a loser, it was an astronomical price. It was exactly the result he wanted."Oh dear, Victor, this is all my fault. After rounding it down, it's just six hundred thousand. Should I cancel everything I ordered?" Shawn put on a fake apologetic look, but everyone could hear the mockery in his tone."Oh? Let me take a look." Victor had assumed the bill was much higher. He took the bill and frowned slightly. He had thought it would've exceeded a million. With twenty billion to his name, even spending a million was nothing more than a drop in the bucket."Victor, if you can't afford it, I can help you out. Victor ordered four more bottles of whiskey. He then pointed at Shawn, Mark, and Edwin. "The three of you drink four bottles, and I'll drink one by myself. How about that?"Shawn and the others burst into laughter. They were nearly out of breath. They genuinely thought Victor must have lost his mind. To them, Victor was just a straight-laced student. They had never seen him drink before, while they were seasoned drinkers.Though the whiskey had a high alcohol content, there was no way Shawn and the others could back down without losing face. Wanting to humiliate Victor, they readily agreed."Victor, let me say this upfront. If you lose, I won't be paying a single cent for you." Shawn smirked, already convinced of his victory.Edwin and Mark were eager to see Victor embarrass himself and quickly chimed in with agreement. The onlookers cast sympathetic glances at Victor. "I doubt you can drink that much." Shawn cursed under his breath. He then turned to Edwin and Mark and urged them, "Hurry up, you two. Finish your drinks, and I'll give each of you a hundred thousand.""All right!"Edwin and Mark perked up at the offer. Getting paid just to drink? That was too good to pass up.But despite the tempting reward, by the time they finished their second glass, their faces were already flushed. By the third, they were completely red, reeling from the alcohol, and even their hands trembled slightly as they poured their drinks.Shawn clenched his jaw. If he lost a drinking match to some broke nobody, his reputation would take a huge hit. He had no choice but to force himself to keep drinking.Victor crossed his arms, watching the scene unfold like an amusing spectacle. He wasn't in a rush. He still had one last glass left. The people around them were slightly shocked. They had always thought Victor was useless when it came to making money, but apparently

Landon's eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze turning colder.Oblivious to the looming danger, Steve sneered and pointed at Victor. "That loser right there.""Oh." He had seen plenty of bootlickers before, and for people like Steve, his response was to simply ignore them."Mr. Bennett, let me treat you to a meal and some drinks," Steve said, completely unaware of Landon's true thoughts. He tried his best to act friendly.Landon pushed Steve away with a sneer. "Drinks? You think you're worthy of drinking with me?"That shove snapped Steve back to reality, leaving him standing there awkwardly."Mr. Carter, didn't you just say that if someone came forward as a partner or guarantor today, you'd eat your contract? He quickly slapped his own face, but the truth was undeniable. He hadn't misheard.Philip and the others were also dumbfounded. Could they really be this lucky? They were thrilled beyond words. They could never have guessed that Landon's willingness to act as a guarantor was all because of Victor.Sophie was stunned for a few seconds. It was as if their share of the pie was being eaten away. They didn't dare lash out at Steve, but venting their anger on a worthless nobody was easy enough. If it weren't for Victor, none of this would be happening.Sophie frowned. Steve demanding a stake in the company wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it was far from trivial. He was obviously setting her up.If he decided to stop cooperating one day, she'd find herself in the same situation again, with Steve demanding even more. That was what worried her the most."Even without me here, do you really think he would have made it that simple?" Victor asked. He was just stating the truth. Even if he hadn't argued with Steve, Steve would have found another way to tighten the noose. It was only a matter of time."It doesn't matter. This is still your fault." Philip and the others glared at him, their voices harsh with resentment.

When things were going well, these people rushed to claim credit, but when trouble arose, they left her to deal with it alone.Still, to save the company, she had no other choice. She hesitated for a moment. It was just a meal and nothing too serious. Besides, if she didn't resolve this crisis soon, the consequences would be far worse.Although she loathed Steve for taking advantage of the situation, she had no choice but to take things one step at a time. She cast an apologetic glance at Victor, about to agree."Wait." Victor suddenly spoke up."What do you think you're doing? You worthless nobody, do you think your opinion matters?" Steve shot Victor a look of disdain. To him, Victor was utterly insignificant."Mr. Carter is certainly being generous, all this just for a meal," Victor said, his tone laced with sarcasm.Steve sneered. "What? You're unhappy about it?""Not at all," Victor replied casually. "But don't you think you're exploiting the situation
