Chapter 6

Author: Dream Traveler
Unfortunately, Ryan was overthinking things.

Maya wasn't someone who had never seen the world. On the contrary, she was a very materialistic woman.

Ryan might seem like a good catch, but could he compare to Victor? Forget about this single Silk Haven store. Every Silk Haven store in Clearwater City combined still couldn't match Victor's wealth.

Choosing between them wasn't even a question.

"Can you stop being so annoying? You keep chattering around me. Isn't that woman with you?" Maya finally lost her patience. She seemed irritated.

She snuck a glance at Victor, but he showed no reaction. She was a little disappointed.

"Miss, as the outlet manager here at Silk Haven, it's only natural that I serve my customers." Ryan's face darkened slightly at Maya's harsh words, but he still forced a smile.

'Damn woman! Just wait until I get my hands on you! I'll make sure you regret this!' Ryan thought darkly.

At that moment, Maya's gaze was drawn to a silver dress.

The dress was exquisitely crafted, with a sleek silhouette that accentuated a woman's curves, exuding elegance and nobility. However, when she saw the price, she gave up the idea of buying it.

$9,998.

Almost ten thousand dollars. That was nearly two months of her salary.

"Miss, if you like it, I can give you a thirty percent discount. You should know, Silk Haven never offers discounts." Ryan noticed Maya's interest in the dress and immediately spoke up.

"No need." Maya shook her head.

She knew exactly what Ryan was up to. But with a real big spender by her side now, she certainly couldn't accept Ryan's petty handouts.

"You like it? I'll buy it for you." Victor suddenly spoke.

He had a good impression of Maya. Besides, she had accompanied him on her electric scooter to shop for clothes. Buying her a dress wasn't a big deal.

"This is too expensive. I'd feel bad making you spend so much," Maya said.

She hesitated. She knew Victor was wealthy, but considering how she had treated him at the start, she felt a little guilty accepting such an expensive gift from him now.

"Oh? So, Victor Quinn, you're using the pocket money Sophie gives you to support your lover? How impressive!" Sabrina, who had remained silent all this time, finally spoke up.

"Oh? Sabrina, are you saying this electric scooter-riding guy is a sugar baby?" Ryan's eyes lit up, and he smirked.

"Calling him a sugar baby would be a compliment. He's just a worthless live-in son-in-law." Sabrina sneered in disdain.

Her voice was loud enough to attract the attention of the surrounding customers, who started pointing and whispering about Victor and Maya.

Uncomfortable with all the attention, Maya blurted out, "Victor doesn't need anyone else's money to shop. He has twenty billion!"

"Hahaha! You are hilarious!" Sabrina laughed so hard that she almost doubled over, pointing at Maya with a mocking expression. "You brainless bimbo! You got scammed and don't even know it!

"He's just a useless bum who married for a mere thirty thousand dollars!"

Maya was surprised, but she knew for sure that Victor's Premium Gold Card wasn't fake.

"Pack up this dress," Victor instructed the sales associate.

"Wait!" Ryan stopped the associate and stepped forward. "How dare a broke loser like you who lives off a woman act like a big shot?"

"What I do is none of your business." Victor was getting annoyed. These two had been yapping around him non-stop.

Ryan was momentarily speechless.

It was true. What Victor did had nothing to do with him. But there was no way he was letting such a stunning woman fall into this guy's hands.

"Miss, if you like it, I'll give this dress to you," he said recklessly. "How about that?"

Before Ryan could even put on his charming smile, his expression froze as Victor scoffed.

"You're just an employee," Victor said. "You're not the owner of Silk Haven."

'What? Is a sugar baby who rides an electric scooter mocking me?'

Ryan was so furious that he laughed. Then he sneered, "Silk Haven doesn't welcome you. Get the hell out!"

The onlookers were thoroughly entertained. They stood by to watch the drama unfold.

"I'd like to see who's going to be thrown out."

Victor chuckled at Ryan and made a phone call.

"Hey, Liam, it's me. I'm shopping at Silk Haven, and some guy named Ryan just told me to get out."

With that, he hung up.

"Keep pretending. Let's see how long you can keep up the act." Ryan found it hilarious and scoffed. "If someone didn't know better, they'd think you were the young master of the Quinn family!"

Everyone in the store knew who owned Silk Haven. It belonged to the Quinn family, one of Clearwater City's three most powerful families. Sure, Victor's last name was also Quinn, but so what?

Just then, Ryan's phone rang.

Seeing the caller ID, he immediately tensed up and cautiously answered.

After listening for a while, he broke out in a cold sweat. His voice even took on a pleading tone.

"Sir, can't you give me another chance?"

The answer didn't seem kind. After hanging up, Ryan looked as if all life had been sucked out of him.

"What happened?" Sabrina asked.

"The company said I gave away store merchandise without authorization, and they fired me." Ryan's eyes were blank. When he looked at Victor, his gaze instantly turned vicious. "It was you! You ratted me out, didn't you?"

In his mind, Victor must have secretly reported him.

"You brought this upon yourself," Victor said calmly.

He couldn't be bothered with Ryan. He'd already had the dress packed up and chosen a suit worth one hundred and twenty thousand dollars.

"I want to see how long he can keep up the act," Ryan sneered as he watched Victor.

He had no authority over the store anymore, but he refused to believe Victor could actually afford all this.

The sales associate rang up the purchases.

"Sir, your total bill has exceeded one hundred thousand. Could you make the payment first?"

The sales associate couldn't hold back any longer. She found it hard to believe that someone dressed so plainly could afford such expensive clothes. Maybe he was just putting on a show, only to back out at the last minute.

"Are you planning to run off once we leave?" Sabrina laughed gleefully. "I'll be right here watching. Let's see if you can actually pay."

Victor glanced at her with amusement. "And what if I can?"

This woman had been acting like a clown the whole time. He didn't mind teaching her a lesson.

"If you can pay, I'll apologize to you."

Sabrina refused to believe it. There was no way Sophie would give Victor so much money.

"Charge it." Victor took out his Premium Gold Card and tossed it onto the counter.

The room instantly fell silent.Anyone who dared to step into Silk Haven to buy clothes was of a certain status. Naturally, they recognized the Premium Gold Card and understood its significance.Ryan was startled and muttered, "How could this guy possibly have a Premium Gold Card? It has to be a fake card, right?"The machine beeped, indicating the transaction had been approved."Sir, here is your card." The sales associate respectfully handed the Premium Gold Card back to Victor with both hands. The payment going through had proven beyond doubt that the card was real and Victor really had that kind of money."All right, apologize. I'm listening," Victor said. He looked at Sabrina as he took his card back from the sales associate.Sabrina's face turned red and pale in succession. She simply couldn't bring herself to apologize to Victor. However, under the watchful eyes of the crowd, she had no choice. Clenching her jaw, she muttered, "I'm sorry.""Louder.""I'm sorry!"Victo

A strikingly dressed waitress walked over. The moment she saw Shawn's expensive outfit, she kept throwing seductive glances at him.Shawn chuckled, and as he took the bill, he didn't forget to give the waitress a slap on the ass. When he saw the bill, his smile grew even brighter.A total of over six hundred thousand. Even for him, it was painful to fork out that much. But for a loser, it was an astronomical price. It was exactly the result he wanted."Oh dear, Victor, this is all my fault. After rounding it down, it's just six hundred thousand. Should I cancel everything I ordered?" Shawn put on a fake apologetic look, but everyone could hear the mockery in his tone."Oh? Let me take a look." Victor had assumed the bill was much higher. He took the bill and frowned slightly. He had thought it would've exceeded a million. With twenty billion to his name, even spending a million was nothing more than a drop in the bucket."Victor, if you can't afford it, I can help you out. Victor ordered four more bottles of whiskey. He then pointed at Shawn, Mark, and Edwin. "The three of you drink four bottles, and I'll drink one by myself. How about that?"Shawn and the others burst into laughter. They were nearly out of breath. They genuinely thought Victor must have lost his mind. To them, Victor was just a straight-laced student. They had never seen him drink before, while they were seasoned drinkers.Though the whiskey had a high alcohol content, there was no way Shawn and the others could back down without losing face. Wanting to humiliate Victor, they readily agreed."Victor, let me say this upfront. If you lose, I won't be paying a single cent for you." Shawn smirked, already convinced of his victory.Edwin and Mark were eager to see Victor embarrass himself and quickly chimed in with agreement. The onlookers cast sympathetic glances at Victor. Going up against Shawn and his friends in a drinking contest was just asking for trouble. Back in school, everyon

"I doubt you can drink that much." Shawn cursed under his breath. He then turned to Edwin and Mark and urged them, "Hurry up, you two. Finish your drinks, and I'll give each of you a hundred thousand.""All right!"Edwin and Mark perked up at the offer. Getting paid just to drink? That was too good to pass up.But despite the tempting reward, by the time they finished their second glass, their faces were already flushed. By the third, they were completely red, reeling from the alcohol, and even their hands trembled slightly as they poured their drinks.Shawn clenched his jaw. If he lost a drinking match to some broke nobody, his reputation would take a huge hit. He had no choice but to force himself to keep drinking.Victor crossed his arms, watching the scene unfold like an amusing spectacle. He wasn't in a rush. He still had one last glass left. The people around them were slightly shocked. They had always thought Victor was useless when it came to making money, but apparently

Victor only wanted to prove himself with actions, so he called Liam.Over the phone, he learned that the establishment was actually one of the businesses under his family's name. In other words, this place had ties to the Quinn family. He probably wouldn't even have to pay anything."I bet this guy doesn't have the money to pay," the surrounding onlookers sneered, pointing fingers at Victor.Only Maya believed in him. He was someone with twenty billion on hand. How could he not afford to settle this bill?A waitress, upon hearing that someone was covering the bill, sauntered over to Shawn with a flirtatious smile. "Shawn, you're paying again? You're so perfect. Whoever marries you will be the luckiest woman alive."Since Shawn had the highest status among them, she assumed only he could afford such an expensive tab."It's not me paying today," Shawn said, gesturing toward Victor, eager to see how he would manage to pull out that much money."Who is he? Can he even afford this?"

"Mr. Whitman, I'm great at handling such trivial matters. Why trouble yourself?" Layla immediately stepped up when she saw Daniel arrive. She clapped several times.A group of security guards approached. They had another task as well, and that was to deal with customers who tried to dine and dash.Layla had already judged from Victor's clothes that he couldn't afford to pay."A trivial matter? You think this is a trivial matter?" Daniel asked. He let out a chuckle, though it was more from anger than amusement. He treated this as a major issue, yet his employee dismissed it as trivial. This was ridiculous."Of course it is. He doesn't have the money to pay, so we just follow the rules and rough him up a little first." Layla still didn't realize her mistake. She was convinced that her actions were justified.Daniel took a deep breath to suppress his frustration. His expression turned ice cold. "Oh? And who exactly are you planning to punish?""Him, obviously." Layla pointed at Vic

Layla lowered her head in embarrassment. "Mr. Whitman, what are you saying? There are so many people here. "I said, come to my office to collect your resignation letter."Layla froze on the spot. Her face was full of confusion, disbelief, and panic. She hadn't done anything wrong. "M-Mr. Whitman, why is this happening?" she stammered."Firstly, your working attitude is terrible. You judge people by their appearance. Mr. Quinn hadn't even taken out his money, yet you already assumed he couldn't afford to pay. Secondly, Mr. Quinn is a valued guest at this establishment."Daniel listed two major faults. Either one was enough to justify her dismissal."A valued guest?" Layla's expression went blank. She didn't care about the first reason, but the second one was crucial. The people who had originally flattered Shawn completely ignored him now. They eagerly gathered around Victor and tried to curry favor.Shawn, bound by his own wager, drank sullenly. But when he could no longer stomach it, his expression became pained, and he vomited violently. The stench of his vomit filled the hall. It was pungent and unbearable. The crowd covered their noses in disgust and looked at Shawn with disdain.Even the gold-digging women who had once clung to him now found him repulsive.Maya frowned slightly, losing any remaining interest in him.Edwin and Mark exchanged awkward smiles. They were relieved that they hadn't followed Shawn's lead. Otherwise, they would've humiliated themselves just as badly."Victor, why don't you come to my place sometime?""My bed is huge, and I can play any game you want.""I'm the most fun, as long as you don't mind that part of me being a little darker."Victor was speechless. His female classmates swarmed around him. Landon's eyes narrowed slightly, his gaze turning colder.Oblivious to the looming danger, Steve sneered and pointed at Victor. "That loser right there.""Oh." He then deliberately moved closer to Landon as if this would make them appear to be on better terms.Landon looked at Steve with disgust. He had seen plenty of bootlickers before, and for people like Steve, his response was to simply ignore them."Mr. Bennett, let me treat you to a meal and some drinks," Steve said, completely unaware of Landon's true thoughts. He tried his best to act friendly.Landon pushed Steve away with a sneer. "Drinks? You think you're worthy of drinking with me?"That shove snapped Steve back to reality, leaving him standing there awkwardly."Mr. Carter, didn't you just say that if someone came forward as a partner or guarantor today, you'd eat your contract? He quickly slapped his own face, but the truth was undeniable. He hadn't misheard.Philip and the others were also dumbfounded. Could they really be this lucky? They were thrilled beyond words. They could never have guessed that Landon's willingness to act as a guarantor was all because of Victor.Sophie was stunned for a few seconds. Philip and the others scoffed, convinced that Victor had completely lost his mind."Hah! I refuse to believe it. Besides me, who else would dare work with you? If it weren't for Victor, none of this would be happening.Sophie frowned. Steve demanding a stake in the company wasn't the worst thing in the world, but it was far from trivial. He was obviously setting her up.If he decided to stop cooperating one day, she'd find herself in the same situation again, with Steve demanding even more. That was what worried her the most."Even without me here, do you really think he would have made it that simple?" Victor asked. He was just stating the truth. Even if he hadn't argued with Steve, Steve would have found another way to tighten the noose. It was only a matter of time."It doesn't matter. This is still your fault." Philip and the others glared at him, their voices harsh with resentment.

Sophie was furious. When things were going well, these people rushed to claim credit, but when trouble arose, they left her to deal with it alone.Still, to save the company, she had no other choice. She hesitated for a moment. It was just a meal and nothing too serious. Besides, if she didn't resolve this crisis soon, the consequences would be far worse.Although she loathed Steve for taking advantage of the situation, she had no choice but to take things one step at a time. She cast an apologetic glance at Victor, about to agree."Wait." Victor suddenly spoke up."What do you think you're doing? You worthless nobody, do you think your opinion matters?" Steve shot Victor a look of disdain. To him, Victor was utterly insignificant."Mr. Carter is certainly being generous, all this just for a meal," Victor said, his tone laced with sarcasm.Steve sneered. "What? You're unhappy about it?""Not at all," Victor replied casually. "But don't you think you're exploiting the situation
