Chapter 65

ISABELLA'S POV

The cool evening breeze swept through the streets as Holly and I walked back from the art gallery. The paintings we’d seen still danced in my mind, vivid splashes of color on blank canvases.

There had been so much life in them, so much emotion. Yet now, as we walked down the dimly lit streets, a strange feeling settled in my stomach, a sense of unease I couldn’t quite explain. It was like a whisper in the back of my mind, telling me something was wrong.

We were indecisive on where to go for dinner, so Holly offered to cook instead. As always. Who was I to decline?

Holly was chattering away about one of her favorite pieces, the portrait of a woman with sad eyes. It was my favorite piece too. She spoke with so much excitement, but I could barely concentrate on her words.
