Chapter 30

ISABELLA'S POV

I exhaled, dropping the call and pulling my food out of the microwave. I hadn't heard from Hannah in weeks, and she just called to schedule a meeting. How nice. I contemplated whether to eat here or join Maxwell on the dining table.

The latter decision won.

I walked slowly into the room, to find that the bowl of noodles I kept for Maxwell was already half empty. He had noodle sauce all over his lips, and his eyes were wide with satisfaction. Something fluttered against my heart. The corners of my lips crept up, but I realized myself almost immediately and smashed them straight down again. It's either he was too hungry, or my cooking was splendid. When it came to Maxwell, I didn't know what to choose.

I sat quietly in front of him and began slurping my noodles. I made it in soup form so it was easier. Maxwell took occasional glances at me, before refocusing on his laptop.
