MAXWELL'S POV

I couldn't sleep that night.

Hannah's words replayed in my head.

I could feel her pain and hurt, something I had never imagined that I could.

Initially, I didn't care if she was hurt, or killed, or even kidnapped. My parents were the ones who made it seem like I cared about her.

But now… I didn't want to see her in such pain again. Her tears made my chest tight, and the lifeless look in her eyes haunted me.

I gave up trying to sleep around 5:30 am, and walked downstairs to make coffee.

My phone rang loudly in my pockets, causing the silence to shatter.

I sighed and stared at the ID.

“What's up?”

“You're still making it to my house today, right?” Keiran said over the phone.

I frowned. “Why would you ask me that?”

I said, listening intently for any breaks in transmission. Keiran was never one to make mistakes in his schedule.

“I just wanted to be sure, man. Look, drop by the office. I don't think my house is safe.”

That explains it.

“Whose tail did you bite this time?
