#28 Asher: Part 2

I didn't know what to reply. The car fell into a heavy silence, punctuated only by the sound of the rain battering against the windows. I wanted to confront him further, to understand his motives, but I was also afraid of what he might reveal. The tension was palpable, a thick, suffocating blanket that made it hard to breathe.

"Don’t you want my address?" I asked, suddenly realizing that I hadn’t given him any directions.

"Let me put on some music," Asher’s hand brushed against mine again as he reached for the radio, sending an electric jolt through me. “What’s wrong?” he asked, his voice softer now.

"I was trying to start the GPS." I blurted out like a lie even though it was the truth. The accidental contact sent a shiver through me, and I quickly pulled my hand away, focusing on the rain-splattered window instead. The silence that followed was stifling.

"Everyone knows where the great alpha Jake Black lives," Asher said after a few minutes of silence.
