#36 The Heat of Truth

Sylvie's POV

Standing before Elsa's room, a pool of fear and apprehension swamped me. I took a deep breath, my heart pounding in my chest. I could almost hear them.

"Jake," I managed to ask, tension coiling my heart. I could smell him even from here. Why was he in her room so early?

To my shock, despite knowing he was there when the door creaked open, my heart sank. Jake stood in front of me in a state of disarray. My eyes gazed past him, a tight knot forming in my chest when I saw the chaotic mess of the room - rumpled sheets, a nervous Elsa. But what choked me was the pervasive scent of sex. My gut wrenched. Did the two? No!

Jake’s appearance startled me even more. His hair was out of place, unlike the clean look. His shirt was wrinkled. He stood there uncomfortably as if he was caught in the act. My heart raced uncontrollably. With each passing second, my suspicion and confusion grew. I wondered if the situation, if Jake was spiraling out of my grasp. I didn't want to lose everyth
