Layla Lightborn/ Cassiopeia Silvermoon

As Carlisle led me through the bustling courtyard, I couldn't shake the feeling of disorientation that clouded my mind. The faces of the courtiers seemed familiar yet distant, their names mere echoes in the recesses of my consciousness. Sensing my apprehension, Carlisle paused, his gaze softening with concern.

"Layla, my dear," he began. "I understand that your memory may still be recovering from the accident. Allow me to reintroduce you to some familiar faces, and we'll take it slowly."

I nodded gratefully, acknowledging his understanding. As we approached the first nobleman, a wave of fragmented memories flooded my mind. His name was Lord Harrington, a trusted advisor to Carlisle, and his face bore the marks of a lifetime spent in service to the Duke.

"Lord Harrington," Carlisle addressed him warmly, "may I present to you my wife, Duchess Cassiopeia Silvermoon."

Lord Harrington bowed deeply. "Duchess, it's a pleasure to see you well," he said, his voice tinged with genuine concern.

I returned his gesture with a nod.

As we moved on to the next member of the court, Lady Elara, I felt another surge of memories wash over me. She was a close friend of Cassiopeia's, her presence a comforting presence amidst the opulence of court life.

"Lady Elara," Carlisle greeted her with a smile, "allow me to reintroduce you to my beloved wife."

Lady Elara's eyes widened as she took my hand in hers. "Cassie," she exclaimed softly, her voice tinged with emotion. "It's a miracle to see you standing here."

I returned her embrace, a sense of familiarity washing over me as her words stirred memories long buried within my subconscious.

The introductions continued, each encounter evoking flashes of Cassiopeia's past. From Sir Geoffrey, the gallant knight who had sworn fealty to Carlisle, to Lady Isadora, the enigmatic figure whose presence commanded respect, I nodded at each familiar face, silently acknowledging their place in my newfound reality.

As the last of the courtiers offered their greetings, Carlisle turned to me with a smile. "How do you feel, my dear?" he inquired, his eyes searching mine for any sign of distress.

I returned his smile. "Better," I replied honestly.

"That's good to hear. Now it's time to get you some lunch."

"That sounds wonderful."

As we made our way to the grand dining room of the castle, I couldn't shake the surreal sensation that enveloped me. Despite having made peace with my situation, the reality of my rebirth still felt like a dream too fantastical to be true. The memories of my death, the searing pain of betrayal inflicted by my former mate, Magnus, lingered like ghosts in the recesses of my mind. But I refused to let them dictate my present.

The dining room loomed before us, a testament to the opulence and grandeur that defined the Duke's domain. Ornate chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting a warm, golden glow over the room. The walls were adorned with tapestries depicting scenes of valor and triumph.

As we entered, the aroma of a lavish feast filled the air, tantalizing my senses. The table stretched out before us, adorned with fine china and gleaming silverware, a banquet fit for royalty. I couldn't help but marvel at the sight, the memory of my former pack's meager dining hall paling in comparison to the splendor before me.

Carlisle guided me to my seat at the head of the table. The courtiers took their places around us, their faces alight with anticipation as they awaited the meal to come.

As the first course was served, I marveled at the array of delicacies laid out before us. Succulent roast meats, fragrant soups, and exotic fruits adorned the table, a feast fit for kings and queens. I couldn't resist sampling a bit of everything, savoring the flavors that danced upon my tongue.

Conversation flowed freely around the table, the courtiers regaling each other with tales of their adventures. I listened intently, eager to learn more about the world I now inhabited.

I glanced around the dining room, taking in the splendor that surrounded me. Everything paled in comparison to this, the grandeur of the castle, the warmth of Carlisle's love, it was all a testament to the blessings that had been bestowed upon me. And as I raised my glass in a toast to the future, I knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, I would face them with courage and grace, guided by the light of the goddess who had granted me this second chance at life.

As the day slid by, I found myself gradually growing accustomed to the rhythm of life as the Duchess of the castle. Despite the weight of my newfound responsibilities, there was a sense of exhilaration in the air, a feeling of liberation that came with embracing this new identity.

Carlisle assured me that my duties could wait. Instead, he took it upon himself to show me the expansive grounds of the castle, a domain that seemed to stretch on endlessly before us.

We wandered through lush gardens and manicured lawns, the vibrant colors of the flora contrasting against the gray stone of the castle walls. Carlisle regaled me with tales of the castle's storied history, pointing out architectural details and hidden alcoves with the familiarity of a man who knew every inch of his domain.

But it was when we reached the castle's courtyard that the true extent of its magnificence was revealed. As far as the eye could see, there were wolfmen—powerful, imposing figures—engaged in various tasks around the yard. Some were tending to the gardens, their hands deftly pruning and watering the plants. Others were training in combat, their movements fluid and precise as they sparred with one another.

I couldn't help but marvel at the sight, the sheer number of wolfmen working tirelessly under Carlisle's command.

As we walked among them, Carlisle introduced me to each member of his pack. I greeted them with a smile.

And as we continued our tour of the castle grounds, I couldn't shake the feeling that Edward was more than just a mere Duke—he was a powerful werewolf, a leader among his kind, and I was honored to stand by his side as his Duchess.

Oh, Goddess. Thank you for this new life.
