Selena's POV
I couldn't help but drop the container of my fertility pills when I saw the text.
It wasn't terrible news, or something that shocked me to the core, but rather, it was a strange message that I couldn't have imagined coming at such a time.
I tried not to not focus on the spilled pills littering the kitchen floor, and read the message again and again until I could fully understand what it was trying to tell me.
‘6PM. Our secret spot.
Wear that sexy black lingerie. I'll be waiting.
R.’
I took in a shaky breath, not wanting to let excitement get the better of me. There was only one person that had enough audacity to send me such a suggestive message, although I wondered why he didn't simply use his own number.
Maybe he wanted things to be more . . . mysterious?
“Hey, Selena—” Raven walked into the kitchen while dragging a brush through her thick ginger hair. She halted in her tracks when she saw the pills on the floor. “What's wrong?”
The concern in her expression made me feel warm inside. I practically saw Raven as my sister, even though she was my sister in law. Many people wondered if we had somehow grown up together or been friends for years, because the level of our closeness was unmatched.
Amongst all the people in Rowan's family, she had been the one to welcome me with open arms. In a pack where I was seen as the unworthy wolf bride not fit to even be called a Luna, she held my hand and shielded me from the piercing insults and hurtful comments.
I couldn't ever repay her.
She moved towards me and gestured to the mess I had made. “Did something happen? Aren't these your fertility pills?”
I placed my phone on the kitchen counter and took out a broom and dustpan from the supply cupboard so that I could start sweeping up the pills.
“It's nothing,” I said, “I just got an unexpected message.”
“From who? And what kind of message would make you react in such a way?” Raven said, taking the broom out of my hands and sweeping up the mess in seconds.
“It's . . .” Heat rushed up my neck and cheeks. I didn't know why I suddenly felt embarrassed that my mate and husband had sent me a very suggestive test. “It's Rowan.”
“And that's shocking because?”
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “You know how it's been for a while now. He has been busy with pack stuff, and we haven't really spent that much time together in the past few months.”
Raven packed up the rest of the pills into the dustpan and disposed of them into the dustbin. “Well, isn't that a good thing? You need this, so why are you overthinking it?”
“I don't know. It's just all so weird. He's usually very direct. The text message was pretty mysterious.”
She raised a brow. “But you know that it's him, right?” When I didn't respond, she took my phone from the kitchen counter and unlocked it like it was hers. “Okay. Ouu, ‘wear that sexy black dress’,” she wriggled her brows at me, “spicy.”
She passed the phone to me. “I think that’s his other phone number.”
“Why does he have two numbers?” I asked, checking out the message one last time. “Why don’t I know about this number?”
Raven shrugged. “Who knows? Probably one of those weird things that men do in their free time in case they want to make prank calls or something.”
“Rowan isn't the pranking type,” I said, chuckling at the thought of him pranking someone in his spare time.
“But he isn't too serious to send you a very hot text,” Raven said mockingly. “So what are you waiting for? You have less than two hours to get ready.” She picked up a lone fertility pill from the kitchen counter and gave it to me. “Here, have you taken today's dose?”
I stared at the pill for one long moment. I had been taking them for a while after I had gotten married to Rowan. After five months of our marriage had gone by, and I still hadn't been able to conceive, Rowan's mother hadn't passed up the opportunity to mock me every chance she got.
“It wouldn't take a pure-breed she-wolf two weeks to conceive, but here you are five months later, making my son look like he's incapable of having an heir.” she had said during one of the last family dinners we'd had. “I had known that him pairing himself up with you would bring us nothing but shame and misfortune . . .”
She wasn't the only one that had such views. The Pack Elders also had similar notions about Rowan, a pure-blooded Alpha, getting married to a latent wolf. They didn't even care that I was his True Mate.
To them, even the Moon Goddess made mistakes sometimes.
If not for Rowan relentlessly pulling me to his side against all odds, even I would have never thought of being his wife as a possibility. The harsh words had done terrible things to my self-esteem, and I had wanted to just disappear more than once, but he had been an unmoving rock.
How could I have stopped myself from falling irrevocably in love with him and choosing to stay by his side?
With a small smile, I crushed the pill between my thumb and forefinger. “I don't need them,” I said to Raven. “I just want to focus on being with my husband tonight. You understand, don't you?”
“Of course. Go and have fun.” She flashed her pearly whites and wrapped me in a tight hug. “Just know I want you to be happy, okay?”
My eyes prickled with tears, but I held them in and smiled instead. “Thank you so much, Raven. You're too kind to me.” I pulled away. “Sometimes I wonder why you care so much.”
“Don't be silly. You're my sister. My brother loves you, and so do I,” she patted my cheek. “Now go get ready!” She pushed me out of the kitchen playfully.
For the first time in while, I would finally get to spend some much needed time with Rowan. Even thinking about seeing him sent bursts of excitement from my head to my toes.
——
For a long time, even after realising that Rowan was my mate, I still couldn't seem to let him get close to me. Probably because I felt unworthy of him. After all, despite being the daughter of an Alpha, I still felt like a reject because I had not found my wolf yet.
But all that changed when I crossed paths with Rowan. That was when everything changed.
Our ‘secret spot’ was the garden where I finally was able to come to terms with my feelings for him after months of living in denial.
On a normal day, it was beautiful, with the sparkling lake at its edge and the little stone cove where we would sit and observe nature.
Today, it looked even more beautiful. Little candles had been placed in the lake, gently bobbing atop these floats as they sat atop the body of water.
A trail of red petals drew out the path to our little cove. Awe and excitement sat at the tip of my tongue, even though I couldn't see Rowan yet.
I clutched the front of my leather coat, gently unraveling the belt holding it together as I approached the cove. “Rowan . . .”
Arms wrapped around my waist and helped me take off my coat, completely exposing the black lingerie I wore underneath. The first time I'd worn it, Rowan had nearly frothed at the mouth. Apparently it was ‘too sexy that it could kill’.
Cold air kissed my now mostly exposed skin, but I didn't mind. A smile pulled at my lips as I reached back with a longing sigh to touch Rowan, but I didn't touch his neck like I wanted to, his weak spot. Instead my hands landed on a face too hairy to belong to him.
That was when my brain caught up to the odd scent filling my nose.
I quickly turned around with my heart pounding in my chest, and a small scream inside my throat.
“Who are you?” I asked the strange man before me, further realizing with horror that he wore no clothes. He was stark naked with his erection brushing against my thighs. I looked down at my undressed state and wrapped my arms around my body.
No. No. No. What kind of a stupid joke was this?
Selena’s POVThe man simply licked his lips and grabbed my waist roughly, pulling me to him. “Come on, baby.”“No!” I screamed, pushing him away so hard that he stumbled backwards.Quickly, I picked up my clothes and hastily put on my coat, irritated at the way I felt like curling up in a ball and crying. Never could I have imagined such a thing happening to me today, especially when I had expected to see Rowan.Did Rowan know about this? That some strange man had come into our most sacred place and put his hands on my body?I didn't want to believe that he could have done such a thing, but I couldn't make sense of the whole situation at all.Without sparing another glance at the strange naked man, I rushed out of the secret garden I had once found safe.——Much to my displeasure, Rowan didn't pick up his calls. I needed to talk to him about what I had faced earlier, but with the way things were, the only way I might have been able to do that was driving over to the pack office myself
Selena's POVIt was like I had gone deaf. People kept cheering for Rowan and the woman by his side, but I couldn't understand what was even happening before my eyes. I turned to Raven by my side, surprised to even see her among those clapping. I held her hand tightly, like it was the only piece of floating wood that could save me from drowning.“What's happening?” I asked her, hoping that she at least had some answers. I expected her to burst into laughter and tell me that the lady Rowan was holding was some kind of distant relative that he was welcoming, or that they were trying to play an elaborate prank on me, but she didn't say anything of the sort. No, instead, she pulled her hand out of my grasp, and her face contorted into a sneer. “Why don't you go ask him? He's right up there,” she said, pointing up to the stage where Rowan stood. He and the woman stood too close. The woman kept looking at him with such adoration in her eyes that definitely couldn't have been mere familial
Selena's POVHis words pierced my heart. I had never felt a more terrible pain in my life. Not even when I was insulted and mocked by my pack’s members. Because I had always known that their words didn't make me, and therefore couldn't break me.Now, however, hearing those same words from the man I had wholly given my heart to felt like a thousand needles in my ribcage. It got difficult to breathe, and nausea rose up in my throat again, reminding me of the child in my belly. I looked up at Rowan, and placed a trembling hand on my still flat belly. Anything could happen to me, but I had to think like a mother expecting a child. “I'm pregnant, Rowan.”“Are you so desperate that you would try to bring that up as well? Have you no shame?” he said. I reached into my bag and brought out the pregnancy kit test that I had been keeping. It was truly pathetic that I had to use it for this reason; to prove something rather than to celebrate with my husband. I lifted it and got up to my feet s
Selena's POVWeighing on the guard's hand, I helped myself out of the car. My hair clung to my sweaty face and my heart beat faster as we slowly approached the gate that marked the border of my pack--my former pack.As we made our way towards the large silver gate, I felt the piercing gaze of the pack members around pour down upon me. Looking at them, my stomach churned as I sighted one of the pack elders standing in their midst. I felt his unwavering gaze on me as I passed by them, a hushed conversation erupting within the crowd. It was the whole world against me. As I approached the gate, I took one last look at the mansion up on the hill miles away. I clenched my fists, my jaws tightening as the image of Raven's smirk returned, igniting me with rage and pain. "You will regret this," I muttered under my breath as one of the guards rushed towards me, locked his arms around mine and pulled me towards the gate. "YOU ALL WILL REGRET THIS!!!" The guard by my side sent a blow to my bac
Chapter 6Selena's POVI had expected my breathing to quicken and my heart to race when I read the wordings on the sign but surprisingly, none of that happened. I knew about Moonstone pack and I knew that I had every right to fear the sign as the rogue but I felt no fear. Their Alpha, Alpha Zane, was ruthless and he ruled the pack with an iron fist, killing every rogue that made it to his pack boundaries. Something told me to turn back, but I knew the rogue was still out there, waiting for me to step out. And besides, where was I to go? My fate was basically the same any other way, so I couldn't care less about what was going to happen to me. My stomach still rumbling and my throat parched from my lack of water, I turned from the fence and ventured deeper into the territory, fully aware that I was venturing into the lions den. The trees around me stretched endlessly, their crooked branches causing the shadows around me to be contorted and misleading. I had never felt so watched befo
Zane's POVMy grip on my reins tightened as I slowly rode into the forest. The entire forest seemed to have been enveloped in a cloak of silence as even the winds were hushed, but I knew something lurked in the quietude. That was why I had decided we go on a rogues hunt."Reports came in from the warriors at the east borders yesterday, Alpha Zana," Gara, my gamma, commander of my wolf army, said as he looked up at me. "The entire east coast has been stained with litters of rogues and they threaten to move further into the pack territory." "Deploy more soldiers there and have them all wiped out," I answered, my tone cold and unwavering. Rogues had no place within my borders, and I was not willing to tolerate any threat to my pack. The uprising of the rogue had begun not too long ago after they had gotten word of the Aegis stone, rumored to be the source of my powers. They tried endlessly to find their way into my pack but none of them ever lived to make it in. But now, the rogues see
Selena's POVThe sound of birds tweeting reaching my ears, causing me to stir on the hard surface I laid on. A bright light beamed on my face and my eyes opened gradually. I places my hand over my eyes and turned to the side to avoid the light but then found a strange figure sitting beside me, his cruel face instantly terrifying me."W-who are you?" I asked as I hurriedly sat up on the bed. I immediately paused after feeling a sharp pain shoot up my arms. "W-where am I?" I asked, turning my head around and trying hard to recollect any previous event. The figure gave no reply, only staring at me as though he was studying some specimen. Without saying a word, he got up from the chair he sat on and moved towards the door."I demand to know who you are!!!" I screamed at him, anger and terror intertwined in me as I did so. He stopped on his tracks, turning to look at me again. The terror I saw on his face sent me sitting back down on the bed again. His face was tight as he looked at me, hi
SELENA'S POV "Come," the Alpha said as our eyes met. He shifted to the side and gestured for me to enter the chamber. I stared at the room for some moments, watching the flame of the torches on the wall flicker as the a cool breeze swept from the hallway and into the room. "Why do you want me to come in there?" I asked, pretending as though I didn't know the reason for his invitation. "Why do you--" "It wasn't an invitation, Rogue, it was a command," the Alpha cut me off, his tone as sharp as a blade. The weight of the authority in his voice settled heavily over me, and I clenched my jaws, forcing myself to keep my composition. "Sure," I whispered with a small smile as I walked towards the room. I knew u had no other choice. It was either this or I got the rogue treatment as the Alpha didn't seem like someone who would give two thoughts on such a situation-regardless of my being his mate. I walked into the chamber, my footsteps muffled by the plush carpet beneath me. As I stepped
Selena's POVAs I struggled to get a hold of my composure, Elara's voice cut through the silence like a knife, snapping me into reality. "So Seer," she said, her eyes slightly narrowing as she turned toward me. "What is your intended course of action in our pack?A feeling of wariness rose up, as though there was something not quite straightforward about her question. I didn't immediately answer, taking a little extra time with my choice of words."I plan on helping the pack however I can," I said, trying to be as vague as possible. "I have certain. abilities that may be useful to the pack."Elara's eyes seemed to bore into mine, as if rummaging for any hidden motives inside me. "I see," she said, her tone dripping with skepticism. "And what makes you think you can help us, Seer? We have struggled with certain issues, and we have not been able to find a solution for them.I sensed that Elara was trying to probe me, testing whether I knew more than I was letting on. So I decided to pla
Selena's P.O.V.As we rode through the pack on horseback, Rowan took the lead on his own horse while I was on my horse right after him. The pack watched as we passed, curiosity and reverie upon their faces. He led the horse along twisting pathways, showing me landmarks and various other features. I followed him on horseback, scanning the surroundings. We passed a huge stone fountain where some of the young wolves were playing and laughing with each other. We passed several cabins built of wood, every one of them having various wood carvings with colors and bright tapestry. As we approached the Great Pack House, I could feel the strange energy emanating from that building-a sense of power and history that seemed to seep from the very stones themselves.Rowan drew rein, stopping us in front of a large pack house. Turning to me, his pride showed in his shining eyes. "Welcome to the Royal Pack House, Seer," he said, proud, his voice low. "This is the centre of our pack, our family home wh
Selena's POV"You've master the art of horse riding, I can tell," Rowan complimented as we approached the large gates of his pack. "There's more to you than a seer."I gave no reply to him as I silently led the horse to into the pack, trying hard to avoid the gazes of the people."The Seer's here. It's him," the pack members murmured as I rode alongside Rowan into the pack."The Seer would bring fortune and good tidings, blessings to you Seer," a little werewolf exclaimed, waving at me with full energy. I smiled down at her little face, memories of the pack I was born and bred flooding me. A wave of nostalgia washed over me at that point as i still galloped on the horse. The familiar buildings, scent damp earth and wildflowers enveloping me.I was home.Still on the horse, I closed my eyes, letting the memories flood into my heart and consume a greater part of me. I instantly recalled running through these woods as a young werewolf of the royal lineage, my paws pounding against the fa
Selena's POV"Why do you look bothered?" Rowan asked, peering into my eyes intently as he leaned closer to me."There's something I feel I should know, Seer."I couldn't hide my surprise at his question, and I quickly looked away, trying to compose myself. "I'm fine," I said, trying to sound nonchalant. "Just a little...preoccupied with the construction plans."Rowan raised an eyebrow, his eyes glinting with skepticism. "I see," he said, his voice dripping with doubt. "Well, if you're sure you're okay...then I'll let it drop. For now."I felt a shiver run down my spine at his words, and I quickly looked away, trying to hide my reaction. But as I glanced back at Rowan, I couldn't help but feel like he had seen right through me.And as I turned my horse around, preparing to leave, I couldn't shake the feeling that Rowan was watching me, his eyes boring into my back like a brand.I urged my horse forward, feeling a sense of relief wash over me as I put distance between myself and Rowan. B
Selena's POVAs I rode alone on the horse, the rhythmic thud of the horse's hooves on the earthly terrain lured me into a state of deep contemplation. My mind seemed to be in a conflict between my desires for Zane and Rowan. Earlier on I thought my mind had been long occupied with nothing but my planned revenge against Rowan, but seeing him this past few days, all my mind could think of was the way his attention on me sent shivers down my spine.Zane, ever loving and caring, also occupied my mind, the feeling of his flexible muscles on me whenever he wraps me with his arms, his gentle deep commanding voice and his tall stand. His piercing blue eyes and chiseled features etched on my memory as the trees seemed to close in behind me, it's branches tangling together in it's own pattern. One thing was for sure, Rowan would get what's coming to him. Raven too. But it would take a greater courage than I thought to fulfil my long desire of revenge and complete conquer.I sat still on the sad
Selena's POVAs we walked silently through the corridors, the howling of long condemned prisoners rented through the air. I paid attention to the sounds they made, hoping to perhaps hear the familiar growling of Xaren. But I heard none."We need to get you disguised," Zane said, turning towards me and cutting through my thought process. "We can't have Rowan see you as you are, your true Identity."I nodded, understanding fully.Surprisingly, Zane reached into his cloak and pulled out a small bag."Take, this would be enough disguise while you are away," he said, handing me the bag.Taking the bag, I zipped it open, pulling out a pair of male fits. I quickly went into an enclosure and changed into them, feeling an odd sense of familiarity as I dressed into the male clothes. I was already getting use to the male's perspective.Zane handed me a cloak as soon as got out, which I wrapped round my shoulders. "One more thing," he said, putting his hand into his pocket and pulling out a sma
Selena's POV "But Zane," I started, looking into his eyes. "The Aeges stone cannot be wielded without the authority of the Seer. " " That's what we thought, but she insisted that there are other ways of using it to determine the truth," Zane replied. "No, that can't be true," I said, taking a step backwards. Things were just happening so fast. "Take it easy Selena, come," he said, drawing me closer to him, the metal bars our only demarcation. "Whatever happens, I'll make sure your life and existence comes before mine." That was so sweet of him. At least I felt protected, but not from the Aeges stone I knew. If wielded wrongly it could harm or kill even an innocent werewolf. Then I remembered. "Zane. There's something I think you should know. The Aeges stone, " I paused, looking into his eyes. " The last time I observed it, it looked... fake." I had expected him to flare up, to react, but he kept calm, his entire being in rapt attention. "We'll get to the bottom of that. But
Selena's POVAs the day passed by, the silence in the cell became more and more oppressive, it's thickness seeming to overshadow me. Pacing back and forth in the cell, my mind raced with thoughts and doubts. Would Zane ever come for me? Would I end up here forever?Karen would surely desire that greatly. As the hours passed by, my thoughts quickly turned to desperation. I was hungry and thirsty, and the cold, damp air was starting to seep into my bones."Help, anybody," I managed to cry with the last breath that I could possibly muster. But there was not reply from anyone.I wrapped my hands around myself, trying to warm myself up, but it was no use. The darkness seemed to press around me, prompting me to close my eyes and try to focus on breathing. At least that was the only process I could hold on to for survival.I slowly began to lose hope. Maybe I'd be left to die here. Maybe it was my fate, written in the stars. But just as I was about to completely give up, I heard the sounds
Selena's POVThe guards pushed the door open, revealing a set of steep stairs that led down into the darkness. One of the guards gestured for me to precede him down the stairs, and I did, my heart heavy with despair. As we descended deeper into the dungeons, the air grew colder and damper, the smell of mold and decay filling my nostrils. We reached the bottom of the stairs and found ourselves in a long, narrow corridor, lined with cells on either side. The guards led me to the end of the corridor, where a single cell stood, its door open and waiting. The guard gestured for me to enter, and I did, my heart sinking with despair. As I stepped inside, the guard closed the door behind me, the sound of the iron door clanging shut echoing through the corridor.I was alone, trapped in the darkness of the dungeons, with no way out. I leaned against the cold stone wall, my eyes adjusting slowly to the darkness. I could hear the sound of scurrying rodents, the creaking of the old wooden beams, a
