Astrid's POV

I spun around fast, my muscles tensed. "What the hell did you say?"

Damien stares at me, unbothered. "Take off your shirt," he repeats slowly, as if I hadn't heard him before.

"I heard you the first time, you shameless pig!" I exclaimed, my face turning red. "I thought you said no affection at home. Now you want me to please you while—"

"Do not test me, woman. I am not in the mood for any of your stupidity," he spoke through gritted teeth.

I opened my mouth, but he didn’t let me speak. "Here," he said, pulling my hand, opening my palm, and placing a bottle in it. "Since you are too proud, take care of your own injury. And don’t come crying to me afterward."

I glanced down at the object he placed in my palm. It was an ointment for burns. I bit my lip, awkwardness quickly taking over the atmosphere in the room. He clearly wanted to help me, and I just had to be rude. Great, Astrid! Just great.

"Uh, I, uh," I stuttered, heat rising to my cheeks. "I’m sorry, I didn’t know you

Damien's POVI walked away from Astrid's presence, storming up the stairs and into my room. The door slammed behind me, my hands clenching into tight fists at my sides. Why is this girl so infuriating, and it's not even been a week? How do I plan on surviving this? I don't know why I didn't I just send her to the hospital. Did I have to apply it myself? But you can't deny that you enjoy the show she unconsciously put on, my subconscious mocked me, making me groan as my trousers tightened around my groin.I couldn't stop staring at her pointed nipples through her bra as she focused on my hands applying the ointment. It took a lot in me to not just make her mine on that kitchen counter.Dang it! How could she turn me on with just a moan. An unintentional moan had me hardening like a rock. It's a good thing I left her presence in time before she noticed my young man acting like a sex-deprived dog.I walked to my bed, positioned in the middle of the room—a king-sized bed big enough to fit

Astrid's POV I paced back and forth in my room, rubbing my eyes as my mind buzzed with thoughts, all geared toward how foolishly I had acted. Why am I so stupid? I shouldn't have run off like a criminal. Now it looks like I was eavesdropping."Astrid," my subconscious mocked, you were indeed eavesdropping."Shut up," I exclaimed, then facepalmed.Great, I was now talking to myself. I think I need to get checked up.The rumbling of my stomach occurred almost simultaneously with the roar of thunder from outside. I walked to the balcony, facing the vast forest in Damien’s backyard. His property seemed to stretch on for miles, even having a small lake within it.I wondered why someone would have this much property when they couldn't even live in all of it. What does he do in this forest? Is he a wolf?I laughed at my own joke.It was almost evening, so the skies were getting dark. Or maybe it was just the impending rainfall threatening its way through the clouds. Either way, I needed to

Astrid's POV"What the hell happened here?" Damien repeated, his voice dropping to a dangerously low tone.My lips parted, but no words came out."Just answer me. What happened here?" he shouted, and I jumped."Uh, the thing is, I just, uh," I stammered, unable to find the right words to pacify him. "I just couldn’t eat all the food so I—""Did you have a party in my house?" he cut me off.A bitter laugh escaped his lips. "So what? You’re already trying to get me riled up?"Why the hell would he think that way? I mean, I knew the kitchen and dining room did look scattered and dirty, but wasn’t he just overreacting?"No, I didn’t," I explained defensively. "I just didn’t want to waste the food, so I told the maids and guards to eat. It wasn't much though." I added, knowing he could be worried about me spending much of his money. His nostrils flared, a low growl escaping his throat. "Excuse me? You did what?" he demanded, disbelief etched on his face. The little confidence that had star

Damien's POVWith wide eyes, I placed a hand between us, keeping some sort of barrier. “What do you think you’re doing, storming up towards me like that?”“It seems like your legs and brain don’t function properly, right?” he quirked a brow. “So I’m going to carry you.”Carry me? There is no way I am going to let him carry me.“You’re not carrying me. I have legs,” I said, folding my arms against my chest. We held each other’s gazes for what felt like forever, neither of us willing to back down. Finally, I sighed, sagging my shoulders as I walked toward the part of the table I had cleaned.Damien discarded his suit jacket and rolled up the sleeves of his shirt to his upper arms, giving me a perfect view of his toned forearms. The top buttons of his shirt were undone, and I caught a glimpse of his chest—the same chest I had leaned against just a few minutes ago.My heart raced as I stared at him. It wasn’t like I hadn’t noticed before, but now I couldn’t help but admit it: I had marrie

  • The Betrayed Heiress And The Billionaire   Chapter 12

Damien's POVI adjusted the cufflinks of my suit as I walked downstairs to get to work. When I passed by the kitchen, I glanced inside, seeing Myra and two other maids cleaning up the mess from last night. My lips curled up slightly as I realized that Astrid indeed hadn’t cleaned the kitchen—not that I expected her to. For someone who was out to show she could make it on her own, she needed to learn to stand her ground and not let anyone command her. That was the only way she could succeed. I was impressed with her strength and hoped she remained the same.Myra saw me first, and her lips moved. I was sure she was informing the other two of my presence because they turned toward me, bowing respectfully with their hands placed in front of them. Myra, the head maid, walked toward me.“Mr. Starkov, sir, is there anything you would like to have for breakfast? I can make it right away.”“Myra,” my voice came out cold—never intentionally, but still, this is how I have always been since that

Astrid's POVDisappointment hit me like a tidal wave when Damien didn't react as I had expected him to after discovering that I didn't clean up as he had ordered.I was expecting him to be his grumpy self and maybe even raise his voice. Well, I don’t think he’s raised his voice since I came to his house, but that doesn’t matter.I was just expecting him to go out of his way and scold me so that I would be pushed and motivated to stand my ground and tell him that I am not his slave.I am not his maid who he can control and order around. I can't believe he asked me to clean. Just because the maids and guards had a good time?Yes, I was indeed going to clean the kitchen, but the fact that he commanded me to do it made me lose my mind. I decided that I wouldn’t do what he wanted just because he wanted to show that he had power over me.“Ma’am, do you want us to start packing your stuff now?” Myra, who stood in my room with two other maids, asked me in a soft voice. My brows furrowed. “Pac

Astrid's POVI ground my teeth together, clenching my jaw muscles and fists as I stomped towards the car where the devil sat comfortably, trying to control my life. The driver stepped out and gave me a small bow while opening the door. My brows creased in confusion when I didn’t see Damien inside.“Uh, where’s Mr. Starkov?” I asked, my mind reeling. He had ordered me to join him, yet he wasn’t even here? What the hell?“He will join us soon, ma’am. My orders were to pick you up,” the driver, whom I now knew as Fred, responded before driving through the city. The sun was already going down, casting a soft glow over the hills in the distance. Pedestrians and drivers all hurried to get home before the evening rush hour began. The car swerved to a stop in front of a fancy restaurant.“Are we to meet here?” I asked, but the driver shook his head, his eyes glancing straight into the restaurant. I followed his gaze while asking, “Then why are we—”The words got stuck in my throat at the sigh

Damien's POV"Auntie? Uncle?"I stood by the doorway, my mouth hanging open as I watched my parents ignore me and flash bright smiles at my wife. How did they even know each other?"Mr. Starkov, everything okay, sir?" my parents' chef and housekeeper, Mr. Jeffrey, called out to me. Only then did I notice that they had gone in and left me outside. I shook my head, walking into the house. My parents' house was a cozy three-story building. Anyone who passed by this place would never think of it as the home of a billionaire family. Unlike the elegance and radiant beauty of my own mansion, my parents loved simplicity. They preferred to live in a place that reminded them of their humble beginnings rather than the luxurious lifestyle my money could afford. My mother, Charlotte Starkov, is a gardener, which explains the huge garden located at the back of their home. I think the garden is bigger than the house itself. Meanwhile, my dad, Pedro Starkov, is a retired military officer from Russia.

Astrid's POV"You guys stay here. I'll be right back. Just give me 15 minutes.""Yes, ma'am. And if you aren't out in 15 minutes, should we come in?" My female bodyguard asked me."No. I'll just text you if I need you."The guard nodded and stepped back as I straightened my dress to walk into the restaurant. And meet with the devil. Just how stupid could I be?The nerve of this idiot asking us to meet at a hotel. The only reason I came here was for closure, not to hear anything about Damien. I knew he would only try to sabotage Damien and me... because he's jealous of our relationship.Unlucky him. He asked Fiona, right? She can be everything to him. I'm never giving him a second chance."Mrs. Starkov, welcome," the hostess greeted before I could say a word. "Please come this way. Mr. Martinez is waiting for you."Damien didn't know about this appointment. Not like I was keeping it a secret from him–I just left when he wasn't at home.I told the guards that in case he asks, they shoul

Astrid's POV"W-What?" I stuttered. "I don't understand.""It's not about you understanding or not, Astrid. What matters is I've realized I have feelings for you. I'm catching them real fast. I want to try to have something real with you.""Oh," was all I could say. It wasn't an everyday thing to have your husband—no, contract husband—tell you he is falling for you.Damien's gaze was intense, making my skin crawl, and my stomach fluttered. When I had joked at the beginning that I would make him fall for me, I didn't think it would be this easy. I mean, I hadn't even started on that aspect yet. I was still thinking of what to do with Fiona and Adrian. How come he's already falling?"Damien, I think you're mistaken, okay? Maybe you think you're falling for me just because you haven't had, you know—"Damien shook his head. "I knew you would say something like this, Astrid. I am not mistaken about this. It is not new. I have had these feelings for a while, and I have been conflicted and f

Astrid’s POVWe sat at dinner that evening, but even though Myra and I had spent a few hours cooking to make it perfect, I couldn't eat. The cooking had just been a way to distract myself from thinking too much, but it had almost ended with me chopping off my fingers. Now, I had a little plaster around my middle finger on my right hand, which I prayed Damien wouldn't see and make a fuss over. Well, it's not like there's anything to make a fuss about. It's just a little cut. I've had worse.I was struggling to eat. The food itself tasted ugly in my mouth, which was a first because I deeply appreciated food and would never want to see it wasted. My actions didn’t go unnoticed because Damien started staring—so hard I almost slapped his face. Why couldn't he just go back to wherever he came from with his girlfriend? The clause in the contract did say I wasn't allowed to date or my money would be slashed. It didn't say anything about him not being allowed to. So, he hasn’t done anything wr

Astrid's POVI had just finished taking a bath when Myra knocked on my door."Hello, Astrid? Mrs. Tiffany is here.""Oh, Tiffany. Okay, I'll be right out," I said, hurrying to put on my clothes and go welcome her—in the right way this time.Five minutes later, I walked down the stairs to where she sat in the living room, wearing the same dress she had on when she came here before."Tiffany!""Oh my God, Astrid," she rushed toward me, hugging me as if we were mother and daughter. "Thank you so much, Astrid. From when I first saw you, I knew you really were an angel in my son's life. Now I can confirm it. I'm so grateful, Astrid."I nodded at her, and we both smiled."Do you need help settling in?""Oh, you really want to help me?" She acted so enthusiastically I wondered if loneliness could make people like this—how long had it been since someone aided her or kept her company?"Yeah, I can help you. I mean, I'm not doing anything now.""Thank you so much.""Of course, let's go. Did Dam

Chapter 45Damien's POVAstrid was making me break my boundaries. Yes, she hadn’t made me forgive Tiffany, but just allowing her to live in my house was a big step—one I would never have taken if Astrid wasn’t here to speak to me.Of course, I meant what I said. If Tiffany tried anything, especially toward Astrid, I wasn’t going to forgive her this time. She could hurt me all she wanted, but if she ever tried to touch Astrid or even look at her the wrong way, I would make her regret ever stepping foot back into my life.I was now supposed to call Tiffany and let her know she could stay with me. Astrid offered to do it, but I told her it would be best if I did it myself so I could warn Tiffany properly. Astrid would just end up being super friendly with the woman. As I was on my way down to the hotel where Tiffany was staying, my phone rang. Picking it up, I saw Arthur Marshalls number.“What!!”“Oh,. Hey, son-in-law.” The lewd man laughed on the other end.“Nothing is funny, Arthur. H

Astrid's POVI was almost at my room, just a few doors away, when Damien's wrist shot out, grabbed mine, and he slammed me up against the wall. It happened so fast before I could even blink."Damien, what are you doing?" I breathed out, gulping. He didn't respond immediately. Instead, he leaned in, and I heard him inhale. Wait... was he sniffing me?"I should be asking you that, Astrid. What do you think you're doing?""I'm going to my room."He rolled his eyes. "Yes, going to your room. Do you have to run to get to your room?""Uh, yes, I have to. The doctor said it is very important for me to run so that the exercise will make my body–""What doctor, Astrid? Stop lying."He flicked my nose. I frowned, crossing my arms over my chest. "Why are you following me?""Because you're running.""I was running because I wanted to get to my room and do something urgent."Damien smirked. "You didn't seem to be in a hurry when you were ogling me from the door to my room." Then, taking my earlobe

Astrid's POVThe whole room remained silent after Tiffany's declaration. Damien stilled on the steps where he had been ascending. I stared at the woman, watching her lower lip wobble, and soon, tears flowed down her face like a stream."Son, your mother is going. In a few months, I won’t be here anymore."I awaited Damien’s response to her, knowing that at this point, he would have to calm down and let them talk things out.But he faced ahead, his hands gripping the railing so tight I could see them turning red from where I stood. Then he uttered words I never thought I would hear someone say to their mother."Tiffany, dying?" He scoffed. "I’m afraid you died a long time ago to me. Let’s just assume you never came back and you’ve always been dead."Tiffany let out a loud wail while Damien continued ascending the stairs until he disappeared from her sight. His mother broke down, falling to the floor while holding her head in her hands.I rushed toward her, helping her up to the sofa wi

Damien's POVI couldn't wait to be done with all the work before me and go home.Normally, I worked on weekends. I worked every day of the week, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. And even when I got home, I still managed to do some work. But since Astrid came into my life, I had been feeling like leaving everything in the hands of others and just staying home with her.Which was why I was happy she worked with me now—because just being with her made all my problems go away.Unfortunately, this time, here I was on a weekend, stuck on a puzzle I was trying to fix regarding some people who had been trying to sabotage my ventures in different parts of the country. Most likely the same people who had tried to poison guests at my hotel. That wasn’t the annoying part. The annoying part was the idiot sitting across from me, making all the noise in the world and making me wish I could bash his face into the wall and not be held accountable."For the last time, Adam, will you stop being so noisy? Astrid’s POVI had just finished plating our breakfast when Damien walked downstairs, already dressed in his suit and holding his briefcase, ready for work. His cologne hit me hard as he stepped closer, my hairs standing at attention. He wrapped an arm around my waist and leaned his head into the crook of my neck, sending warmth curling up my belly."Damien, why are you dressed?""Work," his muffled voice mumbled."Damien, it's the weekend. Aren't you supposed to stay home? And by the way, after what happened yesterday, shouldn't—""Something happened yesterday? What was that?" he asked, making me pause. Was he being serious? A frown formed on my face. Maybe he really didn't remember what happened last night at the cottage.I guess I really have to speak to the driver about this. Or Auntie and Uncle."Nothing. Nothing happened. Have breakfast before leaving.""Sure, I wasn’t going to go without it anyway," he responded and sat down. I served him and served mine too. After eating, he k
