Damien's POV

I adjusted the cufflinks of my suit as I walked downstairs to get to work. When I passed by the kitchen, I glanced inside, seeing Myra and two other maids cleaning up the mess from last night.

My lips curled up slightly as I realized that Astrid indeed hadn’t cleaned the kitchen—not that I expected her to. For someone who was out to show she could make it on her own, she needed to learn to stand her ground and not let anyone command her. That was the only way she could succeed. I was impressed with her strength and hoped she remained the same.

Myra saw me first, and her lips moved. I was sure she was informing the other two of my presence because they turned toward me, bowing respectfully with their hands placed in front of them. Myra, the head maid, walked toward me.

“Mr. Starkov, sir, is there anything you would like to have for breakfast? I can make it right away.”

“Myra,” my voice came out cold—never intentionally, but still, this is how I have always been since that

Astrid's POVDisappointment hit me like a tidal wave when Damien didn't react as I had expected him to after discovering that I didn't clean up as he had ordered.I was expecting him to be his grumpy self and maybe even raise his voice. Well, I don’t think he’s raised his voice since I came to his house, but that doesn’t matter.I was just expecting him to go out of his way and scold me so that I would be pushed and motivated to stand my ground and tell him that I am not his slave.I am not his maid who he can control and order around. I can't believe he asked me to clean. Just because the maids and guards had a good time?Yes, I was indeed going to clean the kitchen, but the fact that he commanded me to do it made me lose my mind. I decided that I wouldn’t do what he wanted just because he wanted to show that he had power over me.“Ma’am, do you want us to start packing your stuff now?” Myra, who stood in my room with two other maids, asked me in a soft voice. My brows furrowed. “Pac

Astrid's POVI ground my teeth together, clenching my jaw muscles and fists as I stomped towards the car where the devil sat comfortably, trying to control my life. The driver stepped out and gave me a small bow while opening the door. My brows creased in confusion when I didn’t see Damien inside.“Uh, where’s Mr. Starkov?” I asked, my mind reeling. He had ordered me to join him, yet he wasn’t even here? What the hell?“He will join us soon, ma’am. My orders were to pick you up,” the driver, whom I now knew as Fred, responded before driving through the city. The sun was already going down, casting a soft glow over the hills in the distance. Pedestrians and drivers all hurried to get home before the evening rush hour began. The car swerved to a stop in front of a fancy restaurant.“Are we to meet here?” I asked, but the driver shook his head, his eyes glancing straight into the restaurant. I followed his gaze while asking, “Then why are we—”The words got stuck in my throat at the sigh

Damien's POV"Auntie? Uncle?"I stood by the doorway, my mouth hanging open as I watched my parents ignore me and flash bright smiles at my wife. How did they even know each other?"Mr. Starkov, everything okay, sir?" my parents' chef and housekeeper, Mr. Jeffrey, called out to me. Only then did I notice that they had gone in and left me outside. I shook my head, walking into the house. My parents' house was a cozy three-story building. Anyone who passed by this place would never think of it as the home of a billionaire family. Unlike the elegance and radiant beauty of my own mansion, my parents loved simplicity. They preferred to live in a place that reminded them of their humble beginnings rather than the luxurious lifestyle my money could afford. My mother, Charlotte Starkov, is a gardener, which explains the huge garden located at the back of their home. I think the garden is bigger than the house itself. Meanwhile, my dad, Pedro Starkov, is a retired military officer from Russia.

Astrid's POVOur visit to his parent's home was cut short by Damien's abrupt announcement that we had to leave and attend to a sh emergency in his office. But before then, I had enjoyed spending time with Aunt and Uncle, just like before. They had been my parental figures when I was living with Grandma on her farm, and I'd been so heartbroken when they left. Now reunited, we were, but under the strangest condition. Though they were indeed very happy to find out Damien and I were together. I'd really hate to see their reaction when this charade is over.On this bright sunny afternoon, I was in a car, set to arrive at the airport where we'll take a plane to the Bahamas for our honeymoon.I kept tapping my foot impatiently in the car, glancing out the window and biting my lips to stop myself from asking the driver if we had arrived. I had always heard of Fiona going to the Bahamas and different islands for vacation, at least once every three weeks, and I had always been envious. Now I wa

Astrid's POVMy mind was buzzing with a million questions. What did Eliza just say? Sister? No. I don't believe this."You just said sister. Are you sure you're not mistaken?""I am not making a mistake. I've known them for five years since Luke and I met. She was in high school back then. What did you think she was?"I shrugged, placing my head in my hands. Everything was just too much to handle now."Astrid? Is everything okay?"Glancing at her, I shook my head. "Selena told me she was Damien's wife."Eliza froze, her lips parting with no words coming out for a while. Then, after a few seconds, she chuckled. "Not strange she would say something like that. And you believed her?""What was I supposed to do? She just said it, and I didn't have any arguments to give. My mind was imbalanced all this while, trying to figure out why Damien hadn't told me about her and why he was polygamous."Eliza exhaled, glaring in the direction Selena had stomped off to. "I always found her actions weir

Astrid's POVI couldn't stop my mouth from gaping as the cars zoomed past the bustling city and islands in the Bahamas. I was seated in an Audi—I guess my husband is obsessed with them—while he was at the wheel. My eyes couldn't stop glancing at him often as he sat, leaning back in his seat as he controlled the car with one hand. His shirt clung to his chest and skin, accentuating his broad frame and bulging muscles. His eyes were focused on the road, giving me more opportunities to peer at him beneath my lashes.A strand of his hair kept falling on his face, causing him to keep pushing it off. I gulped, trying to control myself from leaning over and tucking it back into its place. We drove past a sign marked 'Private Property,' and the car rolled to a stop in front of a two-story glass mansion overlooking the blue sea, with its waves lapping at the shore."I need to park the car. Get out." Damien's bored tone pulled me out of my daze. Only then did I notice that everyone else had got

Astrid's POVI stood still, holding my breath as I stared at Damien, wondering what the hell he had just uttered. And how did he even see me when he's all the way inside the villa?"Nothing to say for yourself?" He arched a brow, leaning back in his seat."I have no idea what you mean."He scoffed, shaking his head. "No idea, huh. Not surprising. Let me explain better then."Saying that, he dropped his glass on the table, stood up, and stalked toward me. His eyes were trained on my face, as if daring me to look away. I didn't, although it felt like I was suffocating under his gaze.Only when he got close to me did I avert my gaze to the floor. Damien chuckled and walked past me to face the tall glass windows overlooking the sea. "Come here for a second, Astrid," he ordered, not turning to look at me.I held my ground, rolling my eyes and staying rooted to my spot.Nothing happened for a few seconds until Damien turned, his lips curling at the edges. "Seems like somebody ate a stubborn

Astrid's POVI had been avoiding Damien since morning. My head still throbbed, even though I had slept until one p.m., maybe because I couldn't bring myself to sleep after everything that had happened.I can't believe I just had sex. With my husband. For goodness' sake, we don't like each other. I thought it was a dream, but when I noticed the marks on his back left by my fingers, as well as the hickeys along my skin, plus the undeniable soreness between my legs, I was horrified.Shit. How did I manage to lose control and give myself to Damien? I left his room before he woke up, and since then, I haven't stepped out of my room, which is actually a guest room in the villa.Thankfully, the rest of the family, including Eliza and Luke, left for another house. Something about "leaving the newlyweds to have fun."I remember snippets of the night during the party, but I can't remember how we both ended up in his room and even made love. No. Not love.My stomach rumbled, reminding me to feed

Astrid's POVI ran into the ladies' room on the floor where Damien's office was located, slamming the door shut behind me and sinking backward until my back hit the wall.Guns terrified me, especially after seeing one—and the way Damien had one against Dad's throat. This was one of the reasons why I hated the city with all its violence. Life at the farm was very peaceful—a beautiful escape from the reality I was now facing. The news every day spoke about gun deaths, just like what had happened on that day when I was just a child. I didn’t think it was getting better. If anything, it was getting worse by the day.A banging sound erupted from outside the door, Damien’s voice soon making its way to my ears.“Astrid, please come out. It wasn’t what it looked like.”I could have believed him if I hadn’t seen it myself. It looked like he would have pulled the trigger at any moment.“Astrid, I’m sorry. Please come out so we can talk, alright?”I didn’t move but instead sank to the floor, hol

Damien's POVIt was hard staring Arthur Marshall in the face without taking out my gun and shooting him point-blank. No regrets. But then again, that wouldn't have benefited me, and I don't think Astrid would be happy if I killed her father. She had a heart of gold, and despite the wrongs this man had done to her, she wouldn’t want him to die."You have 5 minutes."I told him, marching straight into my office, his footsteps echoing behind me as he followed. Once inside, I turned to my receptionist. "Make sure Astrid doesn't come in here while he is here." She nodded, and I closed the door."Get to the point."He cleared his throat. "Damien, I am so... I would like to start with how happy I am that we are part of the same family, my son. This is the perfect opportunity to—""I am not a part of your family," I cut off his banter, a scowl on my face.Arthur looked confused, his brows narrowing. "I don't understand. You are married to my daughter; that makes you my son-in-law, so you are

Astrid's POVThe cafeteria was empty. It seemed like no one else was out of the office, or maybe it was just because I had come here before lunch hours. I sat idly in my seat while the chef prepared what I had ordered. It was for me and Damien. I had come here asking them to give us whatever they had and some for him, but they had said he ate specially prepared food. So that meant I had to wait until his food was done.Well, it wasn't like I minded. I mostly ate natural produce, which I was sure had no chemicals, so it would benefit me too.Oh, grandma had spoiled me.That was the only thing Dad hadn't ruined for me, because he had let me choose what I would eat after the ulcer incident. He had been starving me for hours on end until one day, during a board meeting, I had puked on an investor. It was bloody, and the doctor had confirmed I had gastric ulcers. Only then had Dad allowed me to eat freely. That had been when I discovered Grandma always sent food for me, but it never reache

Damien's POVI had made a lot of bad decisions in my life, but letting Luke go on this small family meeting with his wife, and then letting Astrid work not only as an assistant to learn the ropes of being a CEO but as his replacement, was absolutely the worst decision of my life.We sat in a meeting room, but I couldn't concentrate on anything going on around me. No, I wasn’t staring at Astrid—even as the little cute thing kept biting the tip of her pen or jotting down notes in her notepad, focusing attentively on what was happening in front of her but not around her.I was too busy killing the men with my eyes.Everyone around the table was either very bold or very stupid and had a death wish because today, not only were they sitting in a meeting, but they were staring at my wife as though she were a piece of candy.I mean, yes, she is a piece of candy—for me only—so why would they do that right in front of me?Hendrix from marketing had just turned away, trembling in his seat when h

Damien's POV Could Astrid be seducing me? I want to believe otherwise, but it seems like she is. Lucky her then-it's working. If I wasn’t married to her already, I would have thought my rivals sent her to trap me and make me lose self-control over my business and everything else. Because every action of hers has been causing my insides to twist in a way that delights me so much I want it to keep happening again and again. For goodness' sake, I do not like women. Not since that bitch who called herself my mother did what she did to me. That reminds me-I need to ask about her prison sentence. I need to make sure I visit my dad in a few days. I mean my biological dad, in his grave, killed by my mother. No, she didn't kill him. But the guy was so obsessed with her that when she left to go on one of her many sexscapades, he rammed his car into a tree trying to chase her-dying instantly. Shaking my head, I pushed the thoughts away and focused on my work, typing away on my laptop-only

Astrid's POVNope, we didn't cuddle... sadly.I can't help but wonder, is there a speech therapy session for people who blurt out nonsense without thinking? Because I'm in dire need of one right away.I'm afraid one of these days, I'm going to tell Damien, "Hey Damien, you look so hot today. Do you know I'm a virgin? Maybe you can just take my virginity. I mean, you're my husband, right? I'm all yours."The thought of that does sound appealing, but no, I can't do something like that. Or maybe I can... then go dig the ground and bury myself right after. But on a serious note, I need to be careful. It seems like I'm getting too comfortable around him because—how could I ask him to cuddle with me? Goodness. My cheeks flamed again at the look in his eyes when I said that—shit. It was the first time I had seen such a look on Damien's face.Even when I had walked in and sat on his lap back on our honeymoon, he hadn't been that surprised. It seemed like he knew what I was on to at that time,

Astrid's POVThere are new sides to Damien I have been seeing lately. The humble side of him that cared so much and spoke calmly to his workers on the phone. And then there was the other side, the charming side of him that hadn’t stopped teasing me the whole time in the car.As we alighted from the vehicle, he quickly went around and opened the door for me, holding out his hand for me to take, which I did with a smile.I guessed what I was yet to see from Damien was a smile on his face. I really had married a rock. Maybe Luke was right—he would never smile, and I would have to live with that. But my husband was already very attractive. I imagined how he would look if he smiled. Thinking about it made me blush.Trust Damien to bring me to one of his restaurants. It made me wonder—did he really own every place in this city? No wonder he commanded such respect. It was a beautiful restaurant on the hilltop, with the most fascinating view of the city below. The high-end restaurant was fanc

There is no way I wouldn’t know what she was up to.I have to admit, though, the girl is pretty smart and sneaky.I had ordered for all her movements to be shown to me, just for her protection and to be sure she didn’t get herself into trouble. Or maybe not, a little voice in my head whispered. Maybe because you wanted to be sure she was not approached by any men.It was true, though. I even got her a female bodyguard. Damn, I’m losing it.When I met her early this morning, all dressed up, looking like the beautiful angel she is, with those curves calling out to me, I had barely restrained myself from taking her into my room and making her mine.It is no doubt anymore—I am developing feelings for my wife.I like this woman. This clumsy, silly, beautiful princess who makes my heart giddy with just a smile. To think I swore never to love an

I was invited.”She turned, fast as lightning, to glare at Eliza, who hid her smirk immediately behind a poker face. “What do you think you are doing, Mrs. Edison? This is supposed to be our wedding interview.”“Oh, I’m sorry, ma’am. This wedding interview is being conducted by the company. And while we thought it would be good to have the families of the couple present, the family of the groom and your father were reluctant to attend, so the only member of the family who could attend was Mrs. Sta—Ms. Astrid…”She caught herself immediately, but I still glared at her for the almost slip-up.It was not time for the big reveal yet.“Well, I don’t want her here, Adrian.
