Chapter 001 ~ Axel king
“There is no fuckíng way I am going to that university to live under the same roof with that annoying bag of fish water!” “Amber, language!” Loris snapped at her. “He is your brother for crying out loud.” “Mum, you don’t understand. Cole is the exact replica of dad. He is so overprotective and won’t let me live my life.” Amber rolled her eyes with her arms folded. After waiting for three months for feedback from the admission board, she couldn’t believe they didn’t give her the college she applied for. They had to take her to Boston! Fucking Boston, where her senior brother was schooling. And what’s worse, she was going to be living under the same roof with him. The last thing she ever wanted in her life was to have her brother’s prying eyes on her. In all her seventeen years of existence, she hadn’t seen any brother behave the way hers does, and it was freaking annoying to her. “It’s for your own good, Amber. Your father wanted the best for you—” “Wait,” She cut her mother short, her brows creased as realization dawned on her. “Dad did this? He tampered with my admission?” She couldn’t believe this. “How could he do this to me?” Loris held her. “Calm down, Amy. Your father would never do anything to hurt you. All he does is for your own good. He is worried about you. If it weren’t for Cole and his best friend, Axel, you would have been traumatized from the bullying in high school. We want you to be in a place where he would keep an eye on you. Please, try to understand.” Amber sighed. Her mother was right about the bullying part. She had always been a nerd; face buried in books, shy, big sweaters and jeans with glasses. She was intelligent and kept her circle small, which had led to lots of bullying from her school mates. Cole was always there to stand up for her even though she was totally against it. When he graduated, it became worse, but that shouldn’t be the reason her father would switch her university. That was totally unfair. “I wanted to go to the famous college in England so bad, but you and dad ruined it. I’m no longer a child and can stand up for myself. You keep protecting me like I’m some sort of egg without giving me space to breathe. Just so you know, you all are the reason I hide behind books and glasses!” She snapped and rushed up the stairs to her room. “Amber! Amber!” Loris called, but she responded with the slamming of her room door. Loris sighed and shook her head. She knew Amber was right but her daughter was as tiny as a peanut which made her so worried that she didn't want to leave her all by herself. Her father was always out on business trips, but he cared more for her and would even forfeit his journey to make her happy. They loved her so much, which was why they kept protecting her and not wanting to leave her all by herself. She hoped Amber would understand someday. * Amber plunged down on the bed in her room and heaved a deep breath. She reached for the framed picture at the top of her bed and gilded her fingers on the surface. It was a picture she took with Cole and Axel on her first day in high school. She didn't want to take one, but Cole insisted, saying he wanted to cherish the memory. She was stubborn but Axel was able to convince her with just a single word and that charming smile of his. With her eyes glued on Axel, she smiled sadly. “Axel, I wanted to go to England because of you. You said you studied there, and I wanted to finally see you again. But my dad just ruined everything,” Her eyes became watery as she stared at him. He was her brother’s best friend, but she loved him the first day her brother introduced him to her. That fateful afternoon, she had settled down in bed to take a nap when her brother barged into her room with a new friend. The moment they locked gazes and he stretched out his hand for a handshake, something seemed to spark within her. She couldn't get him off her mind since then. He treated her like a sister, but she wanted something more from him. Sure he flirted with her sometimes, but she knew he didn’t mean it. He bullied her at will as well, still, she knew he saw her as the innocent sister of his best friend and also as someone that was off bounds. Just when she had the opportunity to study in the same university with him, away from the prying eyes of her overprotective brother, this had to happen. She recalled how hard she studied for that exam; the sleepless nights, the migraines, and now it all amounted to nothing. She wiped the tears that wanted to fall from her eyes and made up her mind to forfeit this admission and resit the examination, but then an idea struck her. “Wait…” She trailed off and stood to her feet. She knew resitting the exam would be impossible if she stayed here. Her only solution was to go to Boston. Once there, she would endure whatever she faces and resit the exam then move out before anyone finds out. It’s not like they’re going to kill her when they finally find out anyway. She was going to be disobedient… just this once. And with that, she opened her door and rushed down the stairs to her mother. “Mum!” She called. Loris turned and Amber flashed her a smile. “I’m sorry for my outbursts. I just had a sober reflection and realized you were right. You and dad want the best for me. I apologize for failing to see that.” Loris was shocked, wondering why she changed her mind so soon. She knew Amber to be persistent. What made her reconsider? “Amber.” She called softly. “I know, I know,” She sighed. “I know you’re surprised but don’t be. I want to follow your instructions. I’ll go to the University of Boston. You don’t need to worry anymore.” Loris smiled and hugged her. “Oh, my daughter.” She patted her back. Amber rolled her eyes. Tricking her mum sure was easy. She was happy her dad was away on a trip. He was the only one who could easily see through her lies. “I’ll help you pack up and buy your essentials okay? Lectures are already starting, so you need to go before this week runs out.” Loris mused and Amber nodded with a smile. **** And that was it, two days later, she was already on a plane to Boston. She had her plan well drafted out. Nothing was going to stop her from going to where Axel was. When they arrived at Boston, Cole was already waiting for her. She recognized that chestnut brown hair, olive skin and tall build anywhere. “Hey there, little sis,” He smiled as soon as she approached him. “Idiot.” She replied and he chuckled. “You haven't changed a bit. You haven't seen me for a year and half and that's all you can tell me? You couldn't even hug me.” He pouted. “You wish!” She scoffed, causing him to chuckle again. He had missed her so much. He helped her keep her things in the trunk of the car and led her in. As he drove her home, he kept asking about her journey and their parents. With her thoughts occupied on how to get out of here, she only gave him one word replies. He assumed she was tired from her journey and let her be. They arrived at the house and Amber gasped. It was more like a mansion. “You live here? Don’t tell me you bought this place.” her eyes narrowed at him. He chuckled and led her in. She gushed at how beautiful the interior designs were. The house screamed money. Crystal chandeliers glinted in the sunlight streaming through the windows and rich fabrics adorned the walls. The place looked like where a CEO lived. She acknowledged the beauty, but heck was it going to change her mind about leaving. Cole was about to say something when his phone rang. “Wait here while I go take a call. I’ll take you to your room after that.” He walked away and she looked around. “Duh, I’m getting my room by myself,” She took the stairs. As she reached the top of the stairs, she found herself in a long hallway lined with doors, presumably leading to bedrooms. After a brief moment of indecision, Amber turned to the door at the end of the hall and slowly pushed it open. “Oops! This must be Cole’s room,” She smiled and walked in, looking around. The room was well arranged and very neat, shocking her. “Wow! Axel’s charm must have rubbed off on him. Cole's room is usually a mess,” She chuckled as she basked in the soft fragrance the room gave, reminding her of Axel. “Everything here screams Axel. It’s almost like he’s here.” “That’s because I’m here,” A voice spoke and cold shivers ran down her spine. She froze. Deep voice. Teasing tone. That aura! She gasped. Was she imagining things? Did the room start making her hallucinate? She shook her head and took deep breaths. “Whoa! Now I’m hallucinating.” She chuckled. “You’re still dumb, cat eyes.” The voice came again, and this time it was too real to be fake. She did a robotic turn and her eyes widened at who she saw. She blinked severally as she took in the handsome devil in front her. He had a relaxed, effortless charm. His short jet black hair framed his chiseled face, accentuating his strong jawline. But it was his eyes that truly held her captive - deep, piercing blues that seemed to pull her into an endless ocean of intensity and seduction. His gaze was mesmerizing, making her feel like she was drowning in its depths. A slight smile played on his lips as he moved closer, towering over her. Amber looked up, finding it hard to believe that fuckiing Axel King, her long time crush was standing right in front of her. “Axel,” she whispered, blinking severally. “You’re… you’re here!?”002. “But you said you were schooling in England. How come you are here in Boston?” Amber asked, confusion etched on her face. Axel chuckled. “I told you I was schooling in New England, USA, girl,” He poked her forehead. “How come you get good grades when you know nothing?” He rolled his eyes and Amber suddenly remembered. He had mentioned something like Massachusetts… she suddenly gasped. He was referring to Boston. Boston is located in Massachusetts. She facepalmed, realizing that she had misquoted him. “Oh my gosh!” She suddenly exclaimed and sat on the bed. She had thrown a tantrum at home because she thought her parents were taking her to a place she’d never get to see Axel ever again. But they had actually brought her straight to him, and not just that, she was going to be living under the same roof with him. Her eyes suddenly lit up, and she was overwhelmed with happiness. She thought of how she’d get to see him every day and not just that, she’d go to the same colle
3. NEXT MORNING… Amber awoke with a smile on her face. This was the first time she actually woke up with a genuine smile since the previous months. She had had trouble having a peaceful sleep after Axel left. She may or may not have fantasized about him doing terrible but pleasurable things to her which always ended up with her touching herself in the process. She was shameless, she knew it, but she felt she shouldn’t be blamed for lusting after her brother’s best friend. I mean look at him… he was drop dead gorgeous; too hot to even breathe the same air as her. She could still recall the day he spent the night at their house, and she had to wake up and find him making some pancakes in the kitchen. He was shirtless and his hair was messy, and it only made him hotter than he already was. She had watched how his muscles flexed as he lifted the frying pan and flipped the pancakes. She blessed her self control because it took all she had not to run into his arms and trail her han
004. Amber's eyes widened, her grip on the fork tightening the more. “Girlfriend?” she repeated, trying to keep her tone neutral. Candice nodded, smiling. “Yeah, we've been together for a few months now.” Amber's gaze shifted to Axel, who looked uncomfortable. “You didn't mention you had a girlfriend,” she said, trying to keep the accusation out of her voice. Axel shrugged. “It didn't come up.” Amber felt a pang of disappointment. Why hadn't he told her? Did he think she wouldn't care? She glared at him, her heart aching. Candice leaned in, oblivious to the tension. “So, Amber, what do you think of the campus so far?” Amber forced a smile, trying to play it cool. “It's great. Thanks for asking.” Candice nodded with a smile. “Since you’re Axel’s little sister, I’ll give you special treatment,” ‘If that special treatment involves you leaving Axel’s life forever, I’m game.’ Amber muttered in her thoughts as Candice kept going on and on about how she would take care of
005.“Spill the tea, girlie. How on earth do you know Axel King? He even shoved you into his car!” Melissa exclaimed, causing Amber to laugh.“He didn’t really shove me into the car, Mel.” Amber massaged her forehead. Melissa had video called her the minute she got home and wouldn’t stop asking about Axel. She couldn’t help wondering how Amber knew who Axel was when she was just a freshman.Melissa rolled her eyes. “Oh please!” she waved it off. “He literally swept you off your feet.” she giggled.Amber chuckled softly. “Well, he is my brother’s best friend, so he is technically my friend too. We’ve known each other since we were kids.”Melissa gasped. “Girl, you’re lucky. Axel King is the most popular guy on campus. Don’t ask me how I know, I’m an all rounder-perks of being a mass communication student, am I right?”“It’s gossip.” Amber laughed.The door to her room opened and Cole walked in. He threw the towel he was holding on Amber’s face and she huffed.“Let’s talk later, Melissa
006.Next day…Amber, Melissa, and Jack were having lunch in the cafeteria and Melissa didn’t waste time before telling Jack about Axel. Jack gasped. “I might just be a freshman but the name “Axel King” is gold on campus. Everybody knows him and girls? Fuck, they are always all over him, especially when he plays basketball.”Melissa giggled. “Not only is he hot and drop dead gorgeous, he is also good at sports and have led this college to numerous victories in his two years of being here,”Amber smiled. “Axel has always been my golden guy. He is awesome.” Melissa narrowed her eyes at her. “Girl, you’re swooning.” she chuckled.Amber sighed.Just then, Axel walked into the cafeteria, and just like they had said, all eyes were on him in an instant, including hers. There was something about him… about his presence, his aura, that seemed to command the room. Melissa watched Amber with a smile on her face. No one needed to explain what was going on to her right now. One thing she knew;
007.Axel stood in the spacious office, his face indifferent and his patience wearing thin. He hated being here, and he especially hated the feeling of nostalgia that came with coming to this place.He walked over to the window, overlooking the whole city, and he sighed, tucking his hands into his pocket as his handsome face contorted to a frown. His father’s office had always been the most uncomfortable place for him to be in, and now he had been here for fifteen minutes, waiting for his so-called father who had called him here but went ahead to do business… as usual.Just as he was about to give up and turned to walk out, the door opened, and his father walked in, his expression stern. “I’m actually surprised you waited.” he took a seat and gestured for Axel to sit as well.“Why did you call me here?” Axel asked as soon as his butt landed on the chair.Mr. Kevin King cleared his throat and folded his hands on the desk as he looked at his son. “It’s about you and Candice,” he answer
008.“Turn around!” Amber screamed and Axel’s body moved of its own accord as he quickly turned, his heart beating fast.Amber shut her eyes tight in embarrassment as she rushed to carry her towel and back into the bathroom to calm herself down before coming out. She had no idea Axel would be back early. “Fuck!” she covered her face with her palms. She could literally feel her cheeks burning with embarrassment. How the heck was she going to face him now. What was she going to say? It was going to be so awkward talking to him after this.She groaned, feeling like the ground should open and swallow her whole. She paced around the bathroom as she thought of what to do. She slowly opened the door and peeked through it. He was still standing with his back turned. She guessed he might be scared to turn and see her again. Her eyes scanned her room before it landed on the tampons and chocolates he had bought. She looked away, stretched out her hand to her shorts on the bed and grabbed them
009.Damn her dirty mind! What in heaven's name was she thinking? She screamed into her pillow, her face heating from the first-hand embarrassment.After she uttered that insane sentence, it became awkward a little bit as Axel didn’t know the response to give her. She had to pretend it was just a harmless joke, blaming him for flirting with her, then quickly finished her food and rushed into her room.“Gosh!” she facepalmed, shaking her head. It was becoming more and more difficult to control herself around him. She might actually snap one day if he doesn’t see the green lights she’s been giving him.Axel was every lady’s guy. He knew how to have his way with girls, and he certainly knew how to keep them coming back for more. He also knew when a lady was into him, so why hadn’t he noticed that she had a thing for him?Was he mistaking her stares and flirting for admiration, or he probably thought she was joking? She tried to get the questions out of her head, but she couldn’t.During
092.Axel tried to talk to Amber, Amber’s gaze didn’t leave Hazel. “What are you doing with Axel?” she asked, folding her arms across her chest.Hazel took a step forward, trying to sound as convincing as possible. “Amber,” she began, her voice laced with softness that only irritated Amber more. “It’s not what you think. I was just trying to—”“Trying to seduce him? Trying to get him to notice you?” Amber asked, her frown deepening. “Don’t you have boundaries? Aren’t you contented being the untouchable captain of the cheerleading squad?” Axel held Amber. “Let’s just go.”“No, allow me to talk,” Amber moved away, stopping in front of Hazel. “Listen, I will overlook many things as long as you stay away and do not cross me. Nothing you say today will dispute the fact that you’re trying to get Axel’s attention, and it beats me that you have no ounce of shame at all.”Hazel shook her head. “I’m sorry if that offends you, but you and Axel aren’t officially dating. Like other ladies, I have
091.A week later…“Girl, it’s only a week until first semester exams starts, and I’m freaking out like crazy!!!” Melissa paced back and forth, literally panicking. Amber chuckled. “Girl, relax. It’s just exams.” Amber rolled her eyes, pulling out a book from inside her backpack.Melissa stopped pacing, her gaze settling on Amber, who didn’t seem the least bothered about the exams. She was literally freaking out here and Amber? Amber was seated there, calm and composed like she had this in the bag.Well… of course Amber had this in the bag. She was one of the smartest persons Melissa know. “Amy, this is my first exam in college. I feel so pressured, and I’m panicking right here.” “Melissa, breathe,” Amber said, patting her on the shoulder. “It’s not as hard as you think.”Melissa huffed and plopped down on the seat next to Amber, her face a mask of frustration. “Breathe, huh?” She let out a dramatic sigh, rolling her eyes. “Easy for you to say. You've probably already read all the
090.“You two haven’t answered me.” Cole folded his arms while Amber and Axel stared at each other. It wouldn’t be good to tell him about their relationship over the phone anyway.Amber took a deep breath. “Calm down, Cole. There’s nothing wrong with Axel being my date to the school dance. You know how I am with crowds. He was basically helping me. I put him up to it.” she replied, throwing a glare Cole’s way.Cole wanted to believe them, he really wanted to but whenever the dance between them popped up on his feed, he couldn’t shake off the feeling that something wasn’t right. Call it insecurity, but he’d prefer to call it “brother instinct”.His gaze flickered between the two of them before he let out a sigh. “We will talk about this when I return, okay? And don’t you dare try anything funny until I’m back.”Amber nodded with a smile. “You can count on that.” Cole scoffed before fixing his gaze on Axel. “I asked you to take care of Amber, Axel. I trust you, so just do what you are
089.Amber quickly pulled away from the hug and stared at Jack, her eyes widening in shock. “W-what?” Amber took a step back.Jack lowered his head, sighing heavily. “I know it’s shocking given that I am your best friend and all, but I really like you,”Amber didn’t know what to say as she just stared at him, she couldn’t believe that Jack liked her. Could it be…“The crush you said you had—”“Was you,” Jack replied and that was when it all began to make sense to her. All those times he key mentioning Axel as her brother’s best friend and how she shouldn’t be together with him and things like that. “I couldn’t tell you to your face that I liked you, so I just decided to use something else. I know you don’t love me back and I’m not expecting you to. The person you love is Axel, and I understand that,” he forced a smile. “I just wanted you to know how I feel.”Amber was quiet for a moment, trying to process everything that Jack had just said. He was right, her heart belonged to Axel, an
088.The school halls buzzed with students dressed elegantly with music blasting from the halls. The school dance was already in full swing by the time Amber and Axel arrived.Axel held her hand as they walked in, stealing the spotlight immediately as all eyes were.“Wow, you guys really know how to make an entrance,” a voice exclaimed, and Amber turned to find Ricky and Melissa walking up to them, a smile stretching wide across Melissa's face. “Everyone is staring at you two like you're the prom king and queen already.”“Well, I can't blame them,” Axel said, his tone playfully cocky. “After all, I am the best-looking guy in the room, and I'm with the most beautiful girl.” He paused and added in a softer voice, “And I think everyone can see that.”“You're such a dork, Axel,” Amber giggled, punching him playfully on the arm. “But I guess you're right. It's just everyone else recognizing what we already know.” She gave him a quick kiss on the cheek.“I'm just glad we made it here togeth
087.“And… for the final touch,” Melissa took the silver necklace Axel has gifted Amber and helped her fix it around her neck. Amber stared at herself in the mirror, but believing what she was seeing.“You look stunning,” Melissa exclaimed. “I'm sure you're going to steal the show at prom today. Axel won't be able to take his eyes off you.”“He shouldn't,” Amber smiled as she stood to her feet, admiring the elegant blue prom dress Axel had personally handpicked for her. The dress was a vision. It shimmered like the gentle waves of a midnight sea, clinging to Amber’s curves in all the right places. The deep blue color brought out the golden flecks in her cat eyes, accentuating her natural beauty. The expert beading and delicate embroidery around the bodice, glittering like stars in the night sky, made it clear this was no ordinary dress.“Wow,” Amber breathed out. “He’s really outdone himself. I look amazing and I know it.” Amber touched her hair that Melissa has style and curled into
086.“Rejecting every girl who comes to you and sitting like you’re gonna die the next minute isn’t gonna make Amber like you back, you know?” Gideon, one of Jack’s teammate and friend, said as he watched Jack sit on the bench in the gymnasium like someone who got beaten to a pulp.Jack sighed, frustration lining his features. “I don’t want those girls, Gideon.,” he answered, running his tongue over his chapped lips. “Amber is the one I like, dude. I don’t see myself being happy dancing with a random girl.”“But you said she likes someone else. Isn’t it better you stop this now before you fall deeper for her?” Gideon cautioned him, but Jack didn’t look like he was ready to listen.He had loved Amber from the very first day he set his eyes on her at the library. The first thing that attracted him to her was her cat eyes — he found it rare, amazing and unique. After they became friends, he would always stare at this mesmerizing set of her eyes whenever she was talking. And whenever she
085.Bryan walked up to Amber with a smile on his face, his face showing his charming dimples. “Hi, Amber.”Amber forced a smile as she looked at him. “Oh, hi,” she said, trying to stop herself from feeling awkward around him. He was Tyler’s friend after all, and he wondered if Bryan acted the same way as well.Bryan noticed that Amber wasn’t comfortable with him like she used to. “Amber, you don’t have to be awkward around me,” he said, giving her a warm smile. “I’m not like Tyler.”Amber’s eyes widened. How did he know that was the reason? She cleared her throat and looked into his eyes. “You are his friend. It’s only normal that you two are involved in things like that.”Bryan shook his head. “Can we sit somewhere and talk?” he asked.Amber wanted to decline, but when she saw that the students had their gazes on them, she nodded slowly and Bryan led her to the cafeteria. They took a seat, and he placed his plans on the table.“What would you like to drink?” Amber shook her head, n
084. "Oh my goodness, what the hell?" Amber chuckled as she walked to where Melissa stood, checking out the bustling activites in the hallways. Melissa smiled on seeing how surprised she was. "I know, right?" she laughed. "It's like a prom fever." Amber shook her head, her gaze fixed on the students who were busy interacting and talking about the school dance. While other students focused on decorating the hallways, some busied themselves with asking their crushes out to the dance. "Has anybody asked you out to the dance yet?" Amber asked, smiling at Melissa. Melissa groaned and shook her head. "No way!" She laughed, shaking her head. "Not a single soul has even bothered to ask me out. Do you really think guys would be interested in me?" she asked, her thoughts drifting to what happened with Tyler. Amber shook her head at Melissa, giving her a knowing look. "You're underestimating yourself, Melissa. You're smart, beautiful, and those killer curves of yours would make any guy w
