This is it.

A sigh emanated from my mouth as I glanced at the exit to my apartment with my suitcase in hand. My heart couldn't stop plummeting within the bony confines of my chest. Shivers swam across my skin, from both the chilly weather and nervousness. I could feel their stares scorching my back, making it harder for me to reach out for the doorknob.

"Bree," Gena's voice called from behind me. She didn't want me to leave, none of them did. But what choice did I have? It was the only way to ensure that we rescue my dad.

I turned to her and she rushed to hug me, sinking her head on my shoulder. I could feel some tears on my bare shoulder. She was crying, again. My gaze rested on Jake and Emilio. Neither of them seemed happy about my departure. Gloominess was etched on their faces. Seeing them like that was making me feel worse than I already was. They were making it hard for me to leave.
