"I apologise for my son's behaviour," Lance stated while adjusting himself back on his seat.

"It's okay, I understand." I paused, then resumed, "I didn't know that you had a son." I started a conversation in an attempt to extract some useful information from him. I needed to find his weakest link and then use it to bring him down.

"Where is his biological mother?" I pressed further. Lance glanced at me with creased brows then lowered his eyelids as though thinking about someone. Then his eyes met mine once more. A broken look was vivid in his eyes. I had never seen this side of him because the Lance I knew was arrogant and never showed any sign of vulnerability. His grey eyes were always void of emotions. But that day, his eyes were heavy with sadness and guilt.

"She passed away." He choked on the words while struggling to gain his composure. "When Adrian was five."
