Amanda's POV
Driving as fast as I can, I arrived at Vanessa's house with only fifteen minutes of driving. It was fortunate that by now, the sky had dimmed and there were almost no cars on the road. Even as I cruised easily through the downtown traffic, my mind was crowded with thoughts.
What had happened to Vince after I left him? My mind raced with questions that I didn't have answers to. All the while, I had a strong feeling in my heart that it had something to do with me.
When I reached Vanessa's house, I rang the doorbell immediately. Within a second, Vanessa was at the door. She looked terrible.
Her usually bright and smiley face was replaced by downcast eyes that were red and swollen. When she saw me, she brightened up immediately.
"Oh no, Vanessa!" I cried and immediately took her into my arms. She sobbed into my shirt and hugged me really close. I returned her embrace. She must have been close to Vince. And now, having known the
Amanda's POV Since yesterday, all I could think of was Vince. It was as if he was always hidden at the back of my mind. I didn't even realize that he meant so much to me until now. After I had reached home from sending Vanessa back to her house, my house was already pitch black. My parents were asleep upstairs. Quickly, I had parked my car in the garage and went up the front porch steps. I collapsed onto the bed, exhausted from the day's events. I was beyond exhausted. I didn't even take a shower. I stank but who cares, I'll wash everything tomorrow morning. At the speed of light, I changed into my pink dotted pajamas and got ready for bed. Luckily, I remembered to brush my teeth and wash my face. I headed to the bathroom speedily and everything was done in a matter of minutes. At the back of my mind, I wondered where my dad slept. Was it with Liz, or the guest room? I didn't actually want to know. Running back to my room, I hopped
Amanda's POVThe rest of the day went by in a breeze. History class was boring, as usual. Chloe, who was beside me, shot me a bored expression. I glanced at her, sympathetically, I hoped. Although we weren't very close in class, she was still one of the few friends I had apart from Layla and Alex. When Ms. Raymond was still droning on and on about our recent graded assignment where half the class attained a failing mark, Chloe took out a pack of sticky notes. I noticed this at the corner of my eye and smiled."Your class is the worst I've taught. Don't you need to reflect on yourself!" Ms Raymond's voice boomed. I've never really studied her closely, but I always felt like she resembled a big grizzly bear, with a stout stature and a roaring voice that rocked tables. Her eyes were artificially concealed in colored contact lens, usually big and black ones. She wasn't ugly, but just ordinary looking. She also had a huge tummy. I always wondered if she was ac
Vince's POVAs she curled up beside me on the bed, she had never looked more relaxed. I, on the other hand, felt the butterflies in my stomach, tight with fear. She looked perfect, her light blond hair resting on my shoulder, her eyes the lightest blue. She was so innocent, and I didn't want to do or say anything to ruin the peace that Amanda brought with her. Will she reject me, seeing the end scenario? I knew my heart could not take the rejection again after she walked out during the match. She was my weakness, whether she knew it or not. I could only be weak and vulnerable in her presence, and I hated myself for this. Why was I becoming like this? All my life, I had been putting barriers up, pushing people out of my life so that no one could hurt me. I was hurt enough, by my parents
Amanda's POV When Vince started speaking, his warm hoodie pressed comfortably against my side, I fell in love with him all over again. It was his dark eyes, his bronze hair, that made everything we went through worth it. As we sat side by side on the bed, this had never felt so perfect. Just now, we ate a quick dinner in the kitchen. Luckily, we had some noodles in the fridge and some chicken that could be reheated. Vince helped to prepare the ingredients and I fried the noodles in a big pot. Not sure whether it was because of the excitement of seeing Vince again or the relief, I was famished. Vince, who was usually not a big eater, du in enthusiastically. I chuckled as I recalled the food that was still stuck at the corner of his mouth and Vince scowled at me. It was so fun a
Amanda's POV"So that was what was up with Alex and Layla," I said, my suspicions confirmed. I had known something was wrong, but it didn't cross my mind that Vince could be involved. The situation was much more complicated than my little pea brain had imagined.Perhaps I really had been living under a rock this whole time. While Vince had been my enemy, he definitely proved otherwise. I was quite sure that Alex was always the good guy, only that he had been manipulated by the false Layla. With this in mind, I felt a new sense of warmness enter my body. Even though I was outside, I wasn't afraid of the chill anymore. Vince was beside me, holding my hand. We had settled down on a park bench, and with the wind blowing through my hair, we sat here in comfortable silence.
Vince's POVBefore I knew it, a week has flown by in a blur. My private tutor, Rinos, had been coming to tutor me twice a week, more than the usual of just once. I didn't mind that, as we'd grown to be friendlier over the years. He was short and stocky, and he almost always wore a cap on his head. Maybe he was really bald, as the rumors say.But the most interesting part of him was his enormously long black beard that swept anything that it touched. He always came early, and our maids had to hurry to sweep up fallen leaves in our yard as he trudged forward loudly in his boots. His voice, in contrast to his appearance, was high-pitched and soft. He was knowledgeable after all, being a renowned professor before retiring. He tutored me i
Unknown POVFlashbackKnock. Knock. Knock.Three knocks on the door.Amanda was late. How dare she disobey me again? It was the third time this week that she wasn't here with my morning coffee on time.I slammed my pen down against the desk. How dare she. She's going to pay for it. I was mad, I didn't care. She entered my office cautiously, dragging her feet. She looked miserable, as she should be. I didn't really like her in the first place, as ever since my wife had cheated on me and got a baby, Amanda had been everything I loathed."Did you get my breakfast?" I barked out, not looking up from my pa
Amanda's POV "I'll kill him," Vince said, his eyes so dark they were almost as black as night. I inhaled sharply. This was a version of Vince that I'd never seen before. His jaw was clenched, and his lips were set together in a harsh line. The Vince I knew was carefree, flirty and he always cracked jokes no matter the occasion, especially inappropriately. However, a different version of Vince became to emerge today. I was transfixed by him, unable to keep my intrigue out. I never knew he had the capacity to feel such anger and contempt against anyone. I inhaled sharply. I didn't want things to go out of hand. After all, my dad just returned from prison after 5 years. Even though 5 years ago I vowed to myself that I would never forgive him, for what he did to me, gradually, I began to be able to let go. Last year was my breakthrough. I decided to work extra hard for school, and I attained stellar grades in school. My teachers were all impressed,
