The Huntersville Police arrived at the house and began the search for clues to Mandy’s death. It was determined she had a broken neck but nothing else in the house had been disturbed.

The officers searched the house, dusted for finger prints and asked the boys parents to look for any missing items.

Nothing was missing and as the parents answered questions it became clear they didn’t have any answers as to who could do this. The police asked about Mandy’s boyfriend. The parents gave them his name but quickly exclaimed that he was a good boy and wouldnt do such a thing.

The officer assured them it was routine and they had to cover all their bases. The officers finished their questions and left after Mandy’s body had been taken away by the coroner. This was the hardest part of the job. They had to contact Mandy’s parents and break the news that their daughter would not be coming home.

Mandy’s parents were watching television when the doorbell rang. Mandy’s mother Jean looked at her husband Jared and exclaimed who could be at the door this late? Mandy has a key. Jared shrugged, Maybe she forgot it and stood up and headed to the door. Opening the door Jared frowned when he saw the officers at his door. Good evening officers. Can I help you with something?

The lead officer asked Are you Mr. and Mrs. Williams?

Yes Jared confirmed. Jean anxiously asked the Officers! What’s wrong?

The officers quickly glanced at each other, May we come in and speak to you both?

The Williams were now frantic as they both wanted to know why the police were at their door asking to speak to them.

Jean started crying as she let them in and sank down on the couch clutching her chest. Jared sat beside his wife and placed his arm around her to calm her.

Jared hugged Jean tightly, Let’s hear what the officers have to say before we get upset honey. Jean gave a weak smile to Jared but deep in her heart she knew her world was about to be turned upside down.

The lead officer introduced him self as Officer Reynolds and started to explain what had been discovered just 3 houses down. Jean started sobbing when she heard about Mandy. Jean jumped up and ran to the trash can wear the vomited the entire contents of her stomach up at once. She screamed, Jared Who would hurt our baby? What kind of monster would do this?

Jared was in shock as he watched his wife fall apart. He heard the officers words but his mind couldn’t accept the truth. Jared yelled, there has to be a mistake. No one would hurt Mandy. You must have the wrong girl.

Officer Reynolds confirmed that there was no mistake and advised Jared to identify the body when he felt he could handle it. Jared picked Jean up off the floor where she had slumped and they held each other and cried.

The officers gave their condolences. Left contact information on the coffee table, assured Jean and Jared that they would do everything in their power to catch the person responsible for this and quietly let their selves out.

Officer Reynolds spent the next month investigating every clue and tip that was reported to no avail. Mandy’s boyfriend had been at work the night she was killed and had an air tight alibi. Friends, relatives and acquaintances had all been cleared as well. The fingerprints that were obtained did not match anyone in the police system. No one in Huntersville could believe that a 16 year old girl had been murdered and not a single clue could be found.

Jared and Jean spent the month after Mandy’s death trying to find out what happened to their daughter. They offered a reward for any information and questioned everyone they could think of. It was a walking nightmare day after day.

Mandy’s school held a candlelight vigil for Mandy and everyone in town showed up. Most of the kids at Huntersville high school had known each other since kindergarten and the whole town was shaken over Mandy’s death.

A shadow stood behind some trees and looked at the pictures of Mandy everyone was holding. He still couldnt get over how pretty Mandy was. It’s a shame she rejected me he thought as he watched everyone crying. What they didn’t know was that Mandy had stirred up something inside him. He knew what it felt to love someone now. He hasn’t felt love since his mother died and he wanted that again. Mandy hadn’t been the right one after all or she wouldn’t have rejected me so easily. The next one he whispered. The next one will be the right one and will love me back. She won’t leave me like mom did.

Huntersville didn’t know this was only the beginning.
