Theresa looked at the girl across from her and wondered if Estela would reprimand her.
Even though the person in front of her was now a teenager, she still couldn’t forget Dawn’s image as a toddler.
And right now, Dawn was interrupting the adults’ conversation.
However, Estela didn’t reprimand her and looked at Dawn instead, waiting for the explanation.
Theresa sighed. “Go ahead.”
“Ma’am, the money was sent to me as payment for a work I’ve made. Seeing as they’ve only sent that amount now, I assume they’ve divided it into installments.”
Dawn’s friends were surprised when she stopped at Red Ribbon. It is a famous bakeshop in the Philippines. It already has several branches nationwide, as well as in the other countries.“Eh? Is there an occasion, Dawn?” Valerie asked her.“Not really..”“Ah.. Okay.. See you tomorrow then!”“Yeah.. see you..” She bid them farewell. She went inside the bakeshop and looked around. There were plenty of delicious-looking cakes behind the glass.
Estela was surprised to see the Governor’s son with her daughter. He even carried bags with him while Dawn only has her own backpack.“Come in.. come in..” The mother welcomed their guest into their residence. She made eye contact with her daughter as if waiting for an explanation. Keenan caught this exchange.“Umm. Ma’am.. I apologize for bringing her home late. I invited her to eat out earlier.” His eyes looked sincere enough. However, it was not that late anyway. If she were to compare it to a year ago, this was still early.
The next day, Dawn brought with her three copies of her book with signatures and personalized short messages. After dropping off her grandmother at her house, she then headed to school. It was especially cloudy that day. The wind was slightly chilly.Dawn wore a white cardigan. Her hair was styled in a french braid.Cloudy days’ supposed to give anyone gloomy feelings but at the sight of Dawn, a person couldn’t help but for their endorphins to rise. Her beauty and gentle temperament could warm a person’s heart. It was as if they were seeing a priceless painting in front of them. One couldn’t help but admire.
Eugenio has taught them diligently. The senior students Keenan and Blake stood out. In the junior year, it was Valerie, Dawn and Hugo.During this time, Eugenio taught them how to take the lead.“Remember this, leaders learn to make decisions and think on their feet when calling commands.” He told them.Drill instills the value of decisiveness. Leaders learn the importance of issuing clear instructions to the team. They learn that teamwork is possible only if they first motivate the group members to excel. They learn to value their place in the chain of command. They see the chain in action at formations. In turn, the group members learn to adap
Mariano stopped by at the gasoline station.Keenan stepped out of the car. He opened the backseat’s door opposite Dawn.Mariano guessed what he wanted to do.“Dawn, could you pass me the boxes?”“Huh? Oh--okay. Here you go.” She passed it to him one by one as he placed it on top of the passenger’s seat.Keenan went to sit beside Dawn. “Make sure it doesn’t squish the donuts.”Mariano moved the two smaller boxes on the side of the other one.
Morning came.Dawn and Estela woke up bright and early. She cooked some pancakes and fried some eggs and sausages for breakfast. She also made coffee for them and squeezed some juice for herself.“Ma, Lola--Anita.. Food’s ready..” She called them. The strong aroma and sweet smell of pancakes wafted to their noses, leading them to the table.Their stomachs growled just by looking at the food. After breakfast, Dawn went ahead and took a shower while Anita put away the dishes.
A smile hung on Keenan’s face. He liked what he saw. A filial granddaughter. She asked Isidora who got up and walked around, trying to see how it felt. ” She smiled. ” She helped Isidora put the sandals away and put on flat closed shoes in exchange. “This is good too..” Dawn turned to Estela. Estela smiled brightly. It’s not everyday a mother would receive gifts from their daughter. But Dawn had been giving her a gift al
“I just have it.” She said vaguely, avoiding his gaze.Keenan narrowed his eyes on her.“Alright. Can I buy it from you?”“Eh? No, I’ll give it to you..”“But it must not have been cheap. It’s a new one after all--and it’s already the best-selling.”Dawn’s cheeks blushed.Keenan noticed this, finding it strange. ‘Was there something I said?’“Really--I’m not selling it to you..I’ll just give it as a gift.”
