When Serena opened her eyes again, she was greeted by a dreamy pink light.
After a momentary blur, Serena's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly rubbed her eyes.
This place...?! Was it... her home? Her bedroom?!
How could this be?! Hadn’t she died from massive bleeding after the miscarriage?!
But this pink canopy was exactly like the one on her princess bed from her memories!
Turning her head, she glanced around. Serena suddenly sat up from the bed. "This... really is my room!" She scratched her head, even more confused.
How could this be? After my father passed away over a year ago, Clint sold this property to someone else...
When she first found out he was selling her father’s only property, she had rushed to his office to confront him.
At that time, her father had already passed, and his attitude towards her had completely changed.
The warmth from before was gone, replaced by coldness and impatience in his sharp, deep eyes. "I’m selling Bram Knowles’ house! And..." His thin lips curled slightly, his expression full of disdain. "Let me tell you something. Bram always fancied himself a gentleman, hated indulgence and excess, right? Well, I’ll sell his house to someone who owns a nightclub. Soon enough, his 'beloved home' will become everything he hated..."
Knock knock knock...
The sound of soft but clear knocking broke through the flood of memories.
"Who is it?!" Serena instinctively asked, her voice filled with wariness and alertness.
The next moment, tears suddenly welled up, blurring her vision.
The voice coming from outside the door was, incredibly, that of her mother, who had died alongside her father in a mysterious car accident. "Serena, it's mom! You little lazybones, the sun's already up, and you're still not out of bed! I was afraid you'd sleep too late, and breakfast would get cold, so I brought it up for you."
"Mom!" she choked out softly, speaking to herself. "Is this heaven?! Have I finally been reunited with you in heaven?!"
When she didn't open the door, the knocking resumed. "Serena, why are you silent? Are you still asleep?!"
Afraid her mother would leave, Serena hurriedly wiped her eyes, jumped out of bed, and, forgetting to put on shoes, rushed to the door.
"Mom!" As the door swung open, she saw the long-missed, loving face of her mother. Serena's tears streamed down her face. "I've finally seen you again!"
Nola looked at her daughter in surprise. "Silly girl, what nonsense are you talking about? Don't we see each other every day?!"
The joy of the reunion between mother and daughter overshadowed everything, and Serena automatically ignored the confusion in her mother's eyes.
With the excitement of a young deer, she leaped straight into Nola's arms, nearly knocking over the tray in her mother's hands.
Nola muttered with a mix of helplessness and affection, "You're already twenty-four years old, how can you still be so reckless?!"
Serena froze for a moment, suddenly looking up in shock at her mother. "Mom, what did you say?! I'm twenty-four?!"
When she died, she was only twenty-five, and both her parents had passed away in that tragic car accident when she was twenty-five.
"Yes!" Nola set the tray aside on the small table, reaching up to touch her daughter's forehead. "You're not running a fever! How could you be so confused that you've forgotten how old you are?!"
"Then why am I at home? Didn't I already marry Clint?!" Serena asked in disbelief.
"You said Clint was away on business, and you were feeling lonely, so you came back home to stay for a few days."
Serena patted her head, remembering that when she was twenty-four, she had indeed stayed at her parents' house for a few days, but it wasn’t because she felt lonely. It was because Clint had asked for a divorce, and after a huge argument, she had run back home in a fit of anger.
To avoid worrying her parents, she had lied.
A troubling yet thrilling thought shot through her mind like a lightning bolt, and Serena couldn't help but blurt out, "Then... what about dad?! Is he still here?!"
"Yes, he's downstairs having breakfast!"
As she looked at her mother, who seemed to be staring at her like she was an alien, Serena stood frozen for a moment, then pinched herself hard on the arm.
"Ouch! That hurts!" She rubbed her arm, murmuring to herself, "This isn't a dream, right? I... I must have... traveled back in time!"
Nola seemed to not recognize her own daughter, who she had carried for ten months and given birth to. She looked at Serena with suspicion. "Serena, what's wrong with you today?!"
Serena grinned, cupped her mother's face, and gave her a big kiss. "It's nothing! I'm just too happy!"
Then, she dashed past her mother, barefoot, running downstairs.
As she turned the corner on the stairs, she saw from a distance the back of her father, who was sitting at the dining table, eating seriously.
Her eyes welled up again, and she quickly sniffed, calling out carefully, "Dad!"
Bram turned at the sound of her voice. Seeing his beloved daughter, his usually serious expression softened. "Serena, come, sit with me and have breakfast!"
If this had happened before, Serena would have ignored him and gone back to sleep.
But now, after having died once, Serena regretted her previous childishness. She only wanted to cherish the second chance she had to be with her parents.
Sitting next to her father, Serena propped her chin in her hands, gazing at him with a silly smile.
"What's wrong? Is there something on my face?" he asked.
"No! Nothing!"
"Then why are you staring at me like that?"
"Uh..." Serena blinked, unsure how to explain, when suddenly, the maid—Darcy, approached and respectfully said, "Miss, there's a phone call for you."
"A phone call?!" Serena frowned. "Who is it? Why didn’t they call my cell phone?"
"It’s Mr. Beckett. He said he called your cell, but no one answered, so he called the landline."

At the mention of ‘Beckett,’ Serena's heart skipped a beat, and her face involuntarily darkened. "Just tell him I'm not here!"Darcy nodded obediently and was about to turn away when Serena stopped her. "Wait!"She pressed her lips together, stood up, and walked toward the landline in the living room. "I’ll take it. He went to the trouble of calling the house. What if... he has an urgent matter?"Avoidance isn't the answer! In her past life, that scumbag had used her, deceived her, and ruined her life. This time, she would keep her eyes wide open and see through his tricks!"Serena!" Just two steps out the door, her father's steady voice called out from behind.Serena froze, her heart swelling with emotion. "If you're upset, just come back home. Mom and Dad will always be your strongest support!"Her eyes seemed to fill with tears again..."I know, thank you, Dad!" Serena didn’t turn back, continuing to walk forward.Bram had never had a high opinion of Clint. He felt that Clint was t
Xavier gave a faint smile, showing a set of perfectly white teeth, "Where are you going? Let me give you a ride!""No need! I can take a taxi myself!"Xavier leaned out, looked around, then said, "At this time, it’s hard to get a cab. Don’t be stubborn, just get in the car!"After a moment’s thought, Serena decided not to argue with herself, reaching out to open the passenger door. She tried a few times, but the door didn’t budge. With her arms crossed, she sarcastically looked toward the back seat, "You told me to hitch a ride, but now you’ve locked the door. What’s the meaning of this?!""Come on!" Xavier patted the seat beside him, "The back is more comfortable!"Serena blinked, speechless. The Blaze and Knowles families had been close for generations. Bram and Xavier’s father, Henry Blaze, were childhood friends who had grown up playing in the mud and climbing trees together. Later, one entered politics and became the Mayor, while the other entered business and became the Chairman
Xavier seemed to take pleasure in the moment, casually glancing in Serena’s direction.Serena silently nodded at him. Despite the tinted windows between them, she felt like he could see her.Xavier smirked, turning back casually. "What’s wrong? Didn’t Clint love you so much he divorced his wife for you? Surely he wouldn’t mind covering a tiny scratch like this. Or..." he let the pause hang, "should we call the police?""...!"Poppy’s face went pale. She hesitated, then forced a smile."Mr. Blaze, this really isn’t a big deal. No need to trouble the police. How about I just write you an IOU?""An IOU?!" Xavier looked her up and down, his tone sarcastic. "If it were someone else, fine. But Poppy Castano, your reputation in the circle isn’t so great. I can’t accept your IOU.""You!" If it were anyone else, Poppy would have snapped back, but with Xavier, who even Clint was wary of, she held her tongue.Seeing her face fall, Xavier was pleased with himself. He waved his hand. "I’m not unre
Serena felt a deep emptiness inside. Sure enough, the moment Poppy acted pitiful, Clint fell for it without question. In her previous life, she had been wronged over and over—framed, falsely accused, betrayed.Back then, she might’ve tried to explain herself, hoping Clint would believe her.But now? She was done. She didn’t care what he thought, and she wasn’t about to waste another word trying to convince him."I told you—she provoked me first!""You still can’t go around hitting people!""Think whatever you want. I hit her, and I don’t regret it. I’m not backing down."Seeing Serena stand tall in her red dress, so bold and unbothered, Clint was momentarily stunned."Clint..." Poppy whimpered, tugging at his arm with tears in her eyes. "Look at her! She hits me and still acts like she's the victim! She’s bullying me because I come from nothing, because I don’t have power. Serena’s sudden calm made Clint uneasy.Watching him press his lips together and stay silent, Poppy panicked.“Clint! Clint! What are you waiting for? She agreed—just sign the damn agreement already!”“I…” Clint clenched his fists at his sides, still not giving a straight answer.“Clint…” Poppy’s voice rose, her forehead creased with frustration.Seeing her so flustered, Serena couldn’t help the small surge of satisfaction that bubbled up inside her. She’d wanted to savor the moment a little longer, but after standing around in heels she hadn’t worn in ages, her f
Lunch was, once again, on Xavier. They’d treated themselves to a fancy meal at one of the swankiest hotels in Vernon.Afterward, Serena leaned back in her chair, rubbing her stomach and letting out a loud burp, completely unbothered by appearances.Across the table, Xavier just grinned, clearly amused.“I swear, the real Serena is finally back. The one I saw with Clint? That wasn’t you—she was way too humble, like she forgot who she was.” He reached across the table and offered his hand. “Welcome back, Serena Knowles.”Serena blinked, pushing down the emotions rising in her chest, and shook his hand. “Thanks. Let that humble version of me rot in hell.”
Mentioning Poppy made Clint’s eyes flicker. The anger on his face vanished in an instant, replaced by that cold, unreadable look Serena knew all too well.He strode to his desk, sat down, and casually picked up a document. On the surface, he looked focused — like he was deep into his work. But Serena could tell. He was using it as a shield. After a few moments of silence, she narrowed her eyes and reminded him, “I asked for the divorce papers. Did you hear me?”Without even looking up, he muttered, “There’s nothing here but business documents. I’m busy. We’ll talk at home.”Talk at home. Again.
Just as Serena stepped out of the Beckett Corp building, her phone suddenly rang—its ringtone muffled, echoing somewhere in her bag. Her heart skipped. Could it be Clint? Maybe he’d changed his mind… maybe he wanted her to come back and finalize the divorce after all.She quickly fumbled through her bag, digging for her phone. But by the time she found it, the call had already ended. Missed it.Her screen lit up with a name—Xavier. The moment she saw it, her breath hitched. Those words he once told her came rushing back: “I’ll give you my life if you want it!”Her fingers tightened around the phone. Her pulse quickened. Should she call him back? Before she could decide, the phone lit up again.Xavier.Ringing.Serena took a deep breath, swiped to answer, and said sharply, “What do you want?”“Where are you?” came that fam
The two elders exchanged compliments—genuine, but with a touch of exaggeration. They had once been close friends, but after years in their own circles, their bond had softened, layered now with social niceties.Serena barely noticed the change, but a slight frown formed on her face. Then a quiet murmur brushed past her ear:"Watching them go back and forth—isn't it a bit much?"Without turning, she tilted her head slightly, gritting her teeth. "I never said that.""Alright, you didn’t. I did." Xavier leaned closer, a smirk in his voice. "But if you're not annoyed, I definitely am. Come upstairs for a drink? I just had someone bring two bottles of ’87 Latour.""Latour?" Serena’s eyes lit up at the mention. Her mother, Nola, was a wine lover, and over the years, Serena had grown to love it too. Since she was old enough, weekends were often spent sipping wine with her mother—not to get drunk, just
Poppy’s expression shifted instantly—surprise, confusion, and something else Serena couldn’t quite place."Yes! He won’t!" she blurted. "I went to ask for a divorce agreement, but he kept stalling, refusing to give me one!"Serena crossed her arms and gave her a sidelong glance. “Then maybe you should go back and talk to him. It’s late, and honestly? There’s no point dragging this out anymore. If he isn’t tired of the games, I certainly am.”Poppy’s face darkened. After a sharp glare, she tossed the skirt aside and stormed off.Serena caught it just before it hit the floor.
